hi qtguru, for a fullstack developer (react + node) that's considerin picking up a niche, which will you recommend? chrome extension developments or shopify app development? i need to be sure before i go all out with my time and resources. awaiting your response abeg.

Chrome extension is quicker to learn and have a portfolio, Shopify is profitable but requires a team as its alot of work

I don't have because I haven't seen a NY client to work for, I'm supposed to put my work in the portfolio but no clients, pls don't think I'm unserious, is there a way I get stuff to put in my portfolio without working with someone? Do I falsify stuff? That's why I need guidance, but I have a UI and ux design portfolio I put that on my Upwork profile already.

You can create a Shopify partner and play with a test store. Portfolio on Upworks matters, but you might also want to look outside Upwork, meaning slack, and others.

What are some of some of important e-commerce components a Shopify developer should know?

Minor things,like

Zoom Images, Color badges, related products, and some fancy things, it's specific to the nature of the industry, take for example, if you were building a Gaming Ecommerce site, then the components will based on that niche, I don't know if this makes sense.

it's more of planning and user centric than technical code.

Shopify is easy theme, but hard to plan, there is alot of thought into it, like Ecommerce components, settings and the plenthora of changes you expect for a user. but it is easy.

WordPress is convulted but not too hard

Boss I can wait, sharing resources with me won't change my situation sir, I've spent a lot of time downloading stuff all over the internet and watching endless vids on YouTube, non of this things are practical because if it was I'd have gotten even a single client, I dedicated so much time buying courses and all, and I realized that the one thing I'm missing is a mentor, pls don't let my efforts goto waste, I'd offer to pay you but what will my money do for you that you can't already do for yourself, I'm humble and ready to learn pls help me.

It pure luck, atleast in 2023. There are people who equally known what they are doing. If you now live in a third world, just known you maybe ranked at the bottom. Not to talk about clients that will frustrate you. Overall it not all by your abilities.

It's work and consistency, and research, I use Upwork full time and i have 3 clients that are permanent.

Not if the Upwork front end dev knows what they are doing. I'm not a dev but I've gotten some Upwork gigs in my field where I earned more in a week than what I earn in my regular job. Okay, yes I've had some experience and leverage on some of the stools and stuff I learned at work. But if you know what you are doing, Upwork can be very rich pickings

It's rich picking, I got a client and this US guys have money but not interested in doing the work

Senior Devs programmers are rich. It will take you about 8-10 years to get to that level.

Junior Devs too, it's about maximizing your values. Most junior dev don't do real world projects, they do bootcamp work.

One thing I’ve never regretted is distancing myself from situations I have nothing to gain from. Whenever I had a crush in class, I moved far away from the target. At work, the same. You are in the place for a bigger purpose than catching an idiot woman. There are many fish in the sea.

Not even about fishes in the sea, some women are liabilities, it costs you something time, money. I don't like men who can' control their urges, seen guys lose their job at work, because of women.
