The difference between here and NexaScale, is there they share information than insult. we should learn to be civic, maybe that is why we are not building anything.

There is remote work obviously, you just have to be skilled and focused on how to get them, I have an intern here on NL and we still see gigs. My advice is to look at platforms, you don't need to build a startup to solve a problem, just understand how to extend platforms and you can be a consultant before you do a startup.

Need advice on moving to the next level at Upwork:

My first and only gig was a long term contract from February. It's not a continuous work as they only push work to me when they have the need with a 15hour weekly limit. The number of hours in total is about 70+ hours billed since February.

Here's the issue, I haven't had work from them at all in about 4 weeks, and I'm finding it hard winning any new work or even getting an interview. I feel like this could be because my account is still like new with no JSS and no reviews.

My question: Should I message my client to do me a favour by ending the contract and leave me a review so I could make some progress. I'd promise them that they could start another one with me when they have new work and at my current rate with them as a bonus from my end. Is this logical or is there a better way to approach it? Thanks for sharing your wisdom in advance

Yeah you can reach out to them to ask of there's any work on ground and if they say No, then you can close it, and ask for a feedback on your performance.

I did Swing in Aptech and some stuff, so here's my advice, use some GUI Builder and just bother with ActionListener events.

Please I’ve been trying to get my first gig on upwork and it’s been quite frustrating. I recently bought 80 connects and I’ve almost exhausted it, yet no messages or job.

I don’t really know what I’m doing wrong, I’ve optimized my profile to my best knowledge and also added samples of projects I’ve worked on to my portfolio. Also I’ve followed some best proposal writing practices, yet nothing.

I can’t really decipher what’s happening. Please help abeg.

BTW, I’m a Data Analyst, proficient with the use of Excel, PowerBI, SQL and Python for data analysis.

How e go be if remote cast?

I've been slowly setting up a low key VOIP telephony business. Facing huge resistance from Naija businesses as they don't see the value and prefer to use mobile phones over a centralized telephony system. In spite of the resistance, I'm still pushing. Got two customers and running all the infrastructure from my home office at the moment to keep costs low

I have LMS skills, so I will definitely find some clients to service for a while.

Typo , I meant working outside the house on a full-time basis compared to being indoors.

They come in with below basic skills and want to earn dollar/pounds. A friend kept telling me she can do what I do. Is it not Excel, is not business analysis. A partner had a vacancy and I sent it to her. She read the requirements and developed headache. I tried hard to ginger her to apply, she didn't. She done see Excel run.

They have changed their ways and it's affecting many freelancers. Add Indians and Yahoo Boys and see how it is affecting legit hustlers.

Upwork works, but it's alot of effort and spending on connects. I get gigs on Upwork, but for non tech people, the secret is upskilling in a niche. Unless you want to compete with general audience.

Indians are scum and terrible. They pay you peanuts. They entered the freelance world and they know all the ways to cut into your hard-earned money. Since they came in, they negotiate unnecessarily. Sometimes they beg you to do jobs for free that Americans and Europeans pay you well to do.. Asking favours that they don't return.

Indians as clients on Upwork are terrible, I dey reject their job.

So last year I decided to revisit freelancing because I am a gifted writer and been writing for many years so why not use it to make money?

So I registered on a freelancing site and the journey began.

Making money is never the problem if you are a freelancer, the problem is how much time can you give to the job.
The job was just too much that i had to employ many nairalanders to work for me.
At a point I was earning $900 per week (i could earn much more than this but where is the time to do more work?) but the work was just too much. So much that i moved to an hotel for several months just so that i can focus and have the hotel staff attend to all my needs so I dont have to do any work except my writing job.

This is a job that would make you want to go mad. You will work mornimg and night as if you have no life. Forget social life, all you will be after is to meet deadlines.

People will think you are a yahoo boy because you dont go to an office and you are always on your laptop. They also see that you dont have problem with money. To make it worse you are always going to bank to collect dollars and take to aboki.

I shake my head when i see nigerians complaining that there is no work. There is work but most people cannot work. That is just the truth.

If you know you can make these sacrifices then you should consider freelancing so far you have the skills for the jobs you want to apply for.

That's how I feel, I can't complain because of the mo ey, but you're working 24/7, even at the gym, I have to carry laptop and modem. Luckily I employed an intern from Nairaland and we've been working and sharing the profit.

No thanks, I don't find light-skinned ladies attractive. I acknowledge their beauty but it's not my thing, I like my woman's ass ebony and a bit chocolatey.
