Janey224: Good day everyone. My name is Jane. I'm a Frontend developer with skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and react. I wish to get a remote internship to gain experience. I'd really appreciate connection to any. Here's my email; janeagadiabiz@gmail.com
Philphoenix: That's great. Could you recommend a good learning resource for it please?
Shopify.dev/themes read everything carefully, might want to get a notepad, there's alot of things to consider and factor, settings and customizations for users.
Like I have interest in moving abroad, probably to Canada, tho I should have started arranging my papers but I put it on hold for now, reason been that I am undergoing a software engineering program in a bootcamp and I want to finish the program and have some months of internship (not necessarily a paid internship tho) before I start preparing for my journey.
Tho I wil be using study route to move abroad but deep down of me I know I don't want to do any other job abroad apart from software engineering.
How viable do u think I can achieve this and secure job quickly sir. I don't want to go there and start suffering mysef and blaming mysef later.
You are not limited to Software dev, the only thing you can use to sustain is picking up freelance skills or new skills. there are some tools you can learn to get some earnings. No-code tools are trendy and require little technical skills. However, I'll advise starting some freelance on the side, so that when you enter Canada, you can still have some earnings or something to sustain. If you can join a freelance community or research what skills to learn.
Also, prayers too, because surviving in another man's land is not beans. wish you all the best. Check Canada freelance community online and see what it's like.
Please feel free to discuss this, I think this is an opportunity for beginners, as you don't need excess code to build a quick game. it's got it's niche in the eLearning Industry.
Godswilleee: What are all of u saying in this thread, it is not d same upwork I am using, no job for newbie, I have watch YouTube video on how to write very good proposal as a data entry clerk, I have not gotten a single interview, most scammer will want to communicate with u outside upwork, by dropping their telegram link on job description and wen u chat dem they will ask for money to secure d job and many odas who post jobs on upwork has not make any payment which is turn off for me also, maybe u guys start upwork like 3-4 years ago wen upwork was still upwork and now u are all in expert level where u can get jobs easily.. But getting jobs as a newbie nw is almost impossible....
I'll advise you to find a niche, and research what other Nigerians are doing on Upworks, Google search helps a lot, it's what I did. Data Entry can be automated these days.
Coming from Stage3D, WebGL has always been an issue, who wan write code from scratch to build a game, PlayCanvas has everything for someone trying to explore game dev, I think the web is a good example. Let me explain further.
I am currently looking at a project for SCORM, Them Moodle, you can export VR Contents into your XR Devices ( Browser, Quest 2, Android XR Phones), I went through it and compared it to A-Frame, ThreeJS, BabylonJS and Playcanvas is close to Unity, to the point you can create custom scripts like Unity Extensions.
It supports both WebGL and WebGPU
the only issue for LMS is that it doesn't support them, and let me explain.
SCORM Activity usually contains interactivity in the course and SCORM/xAPI is responsible for sharing the scores/analytics to track things. It would mean PlayCanvas needs to implement xAPI
How will this be possible?
PlayCanvas User Scripts and a mini xAPI to transmit the VR data to the LMS
just thought I share my thoughts, I saw a thread about OpenGL and thought I share here, there are gigs for VR and 3D interactive business.
davien: I suspect it was all a front. Andela's early investors were people like Mark Zuckerberg and others who invested in the company to train software engineers from low income countries. After the first few years when the company gained stability, they threw away that model to hiring only experienced devs for contract work, meanwhile there were reports the funds that were meant for teaching and feeding aspiring software engineers was cut after the first year.
and I also held this same view too, but the last time, we had our Senior Engineer's meeting, he explained they were burning cash fast. You know, they have to provide returns for their stakeholders. But Covid also gave it a justification to further cut support staff and less performing staff. Jeremy is a good guy who needs to make cash for stakeholders sadly, he really did like Junior devs but business is business so I can see why it looks like that but e fit be I won't put it past these Americans.
Codedboy95: Actually there are gigs that pays that much ( even more), jobs like that are not just much. My last upwork gig was $40/hr with 30hrs weekly limit ( but i was never able to work for 30hrs because i had 2 other full time jobs ). My problem with upwork is that you have to work to get paid unlike a full time job where you can go days without working ( because there is no work), even take paid leave and at the end of the month, you get your full salary. It’s because of these reasons I haven’t used upwork in months and mainly focused on my full time job which i got on linkendin (with relocation).
Same here, I have a full-time remote job, but I hired an intern, he does the Ui I just focus on the code, but I want the intern to become his own freelancer and full-time dev in the future.
Bloomsbury: This is horrible. What a wicked act! I just can't imagine how codementor would be looking at Andela after what he or she did. This is a criminal offense. The action of this person has really damaged Andela reputation.
But I would like to ask, is Andela still running as usual in other African countries.
I meant the usual way of getting software engineers, training, feeding them and also paying them or did their change of management affect all other countries?
It runs remotely like turning, and no, it was because of COVID and also this helps them make money, no more overhead costs and catering to Gen Z behaviours like free food, PS4 and all that nonsense, you're employed to write code and nothing else.
