PoliticsRe: Al-Jazeera Interviews Goodluck Jonathan (Video) by queensmith: 9:48am On Mar 03, 2015
To focus on the actual content of the interview:

Has BH been completed defeated -

GEJ says from the beginning we lacked weapons, so he is telling us that he used 6 years to source weapons?

He also makes a very inflammatory statement claiming Nigerians cannot be fully shielded from terrorists, only in Nigeria smh

Why has it taken so long:

Our president says it's out of ignorance, and fails to answer the answer the question.

GEJ insists he won't lose the election - which explains why his party is focused on the opposition and smear campaigns rather than facing his work.

He fails to explain why he's failed to to curtail the insurgents till now?

On whether he mishandled the situation - he says BH didn't start with him. I must mention here BH didn't kill 13000 people and kidnap over 500 under any other president. Whether they started 50 years ago they had no leg until GEJ arrived.

On corruption he insists it's blown out of proportion and continues to emphasize stealing KMT!!

He demonstrates his ignorance by claiming because the budget is only $20billion dollars so we cannot lose $49bn. Refusing to acknowledge the fact that the allegation refers to money that is not making it's way into the budget. Two CBN governors have explained this in detail so we can all agree this is a problem.

I'm disappointed the interviewer didn't ask the right questions, the president deserves a grilling, but for the sake of being Nigerian I will discourage GEJ from interviews as the man is truly an embarrassment.

There's only soo much fuel you can consume locally, besides its probably more worthwhile to export than sell domestically. Good pricing regulation will ensure Nigerians get the best fuel deals and we still maintain adequate income exporting.

Reference:
But when the government wanted to remove subsidy you said no. Does the government of the country you live in partially pay for the fuel you use or you even have to pay VAT on the fuel you buy. Be factual because if there is one thing Nigerians are good at it is importing. So if it is scarce then it must be a question of pricing.
Subsidy where? In Nigeria? Subsidy is no longer paid. So subsidy cannot be used as an excuse for oil being scarce in the market.

Theres plenty of taxes on the fuel we purchase here, if anything the taxes are the reason fuel prices are higher than in Nigeria.

I will assume the main reason is the fact that Nigeria does not refine enough oil, the export price will be of no consequence if we didn't need to import fuel. Another reason why devaluation was a bad idea - it now costs more to buy the fuel than you will make trying to sell it. Even in the face of NNPCs dodgy swap deals.

you are having a laugh and a joke at the same time?

UK where? Please go and sit down somewhere. Where have you ever heard of long queues for fuel at ridiculous prices?

in a 2mile radius of where I live there are over 7 stations that I know of from the top of my head (meaning there is probably more that I don't) most are 24hrs and they dont even close on Sundays. Prices of fuel are tightly regulated and we're not faced with having to go to one black market or the other for fuel.

In a country with adequate supply how will any marketer hold the population to ransom? Please gerrout.

Berem you should call a spade a spade, we've never had it this good. I remember spending hours at petrol stations in the past, we seldom have that now.
I live in a country that doesn't produce a fraction of the oil Nigeria produces - yet I have never waited more than 10minutes at the plethora of stations available to me neither has the cost deviated to that extent for the past 5 years.

The spade you should be calling GEJ is a nimwit, whether fuel scarcity happens daily or on occasion the recurrence is ridiculous in its entirety. It's a result of having a clueless govenment that feel no sense of responsibility to the citizens they govern.

Stop praising mediocrity and demand your government deliver, this isn't acceptable anywhere outside of Nigeria why are you taking it?

PoliticsMissing Chibok Girls - Does Jonathan Know Their Whereabouts? by queensmith(op): 11:33am On Mar 02, 2015
I think he does this enlightening article from the Punch suggests;

There is a strong indication that the United Kingdom is withholding intelligence information as regard the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram since April 14, 2014.

The girls, until their abduction, were pupils of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

The British government claimed that revealing details of what it found about the whereabouts of the abducted girls would clearly damage its relationship with Nigeria and other allies.

This revelation came after a UK-based group, Security in Africa, through its founder, Ben Oguntala, wrote the British Ministry of Defence to request for information on the Chibok girls.

“The information was sent on January 30 this year and the UK government has 20 days to comply. They do have a defence of national security and that would prevent them from disclosing the information. Let’s hope they don’t. If they rely on national security defence, we can raise the matter with the Information Commissioner’s office to determine if their claim of national security is reasonable,” Oguntala told our correspondent while requesting for the information.

The SIA founder, who had earlier in January this year said it was setting up a taskforce to go to Sambisa Forest to secure the release of the abducted schoolgirls, requested from the UK government to know the “results and reports of the British Armed Forces, the details of where they searched and the results of their findings.

“We also seek to have the details of the technology, technique or methodology used in the search and the consequential results,” he wrote in his request letter.

But, in a letter from the MOD’s Permanent Joint Headquarters in Middlesex, dated February 25, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent, the British government said some of the information requested by Oguntala “falls entirely within the scope of the qualified exemption provided for at section 27 (International Relations) of the FOIA and has been withheld.”

It said, “Section 27 is a qualified exemption and is subject to public interest testing which means that the information requested can only be withheld if the public interest in doing so outweighs the public interest in disclosure.

“Section 27(1)(a), (1)(c) and (2) have been applied because some of the information has the potential to adversely affect relations with our allies. The Public Interest Test concluded that whilst release would increase public understanding and confidence in the relation the United Kingdom has with other international states in its assistance with operations, the balance of the public interest lay in withholding the information you desire.

“We have considered it necessary to apply the higher level of prejudice against release of the exempted information at the higher level of ‘would’ rather than ‘would be likely to’ adversely affect relations with our allies.”

The British defence ministry stated that it would not release the details of where the UK soldiers searched and the results of their findings.

It however shared details of the “technology, technique or methodology” used in the search.

According to the MOD, the RAF Sentinel R1 and Tornado aircraft were used to “provide imagery and other data as part of a combined effort with Nigeria and other nations.”

The Sentinel R1 is the UK Royal Air Force’s only long-range wide area battlefield surveillance asset, providing critical intelligence and target tracking information to British and Coalition forces.

“After the 1990 Gulf War, it was identified by the allies that Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance had played a key role in the success of this operation. In particular, the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar and Ground Moving Target Indicator had proved invaluable in the tracking and prosecution of enemy ground forces. This galvanised the UK to acquire its own capability and in 1993 the requirement was endorsed by the MOD,” the RAF said on its website.

Not deterred by the response of the MOD, Oguntala said his group would also approach the British Prime Minister to “reveal what he can about the Chibok girls.”

“I have had several persons suggesting that I drop the matter and claiming Boko Haram is being used by political players. This information request approach means if the British government declares what it knows, there will be no place for Nigerian political players to hide,” he said.

PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan, A.P.C And Salient Issues by queensmith: 3:28pm On Mar 01, 2015
barcanista:
1. I also supports subsidy removal on the condition that parliatives are put in place BEFORE the removal. The Governors along with the President supported the removal because it will give them more money. Neither the governors nor the president vbrought in parliatives before the removal. The salient issue is WHY did the APC shifted all the abuse and blame to the President without telling us what their Govs did? Of course to play to the gallery and make it look like it was entirely the President's decision just to score cheap political point. While the PDP and the Presidency defended their stand, the APC tried to be hypocritical in their stand. Another issue is, what did these APC govs do with the extra money?
I have no knowledge on the parts Governors had to play in this matter but if they indeed supported the removal it was a wise decision (though their intentions are another matter). However the FG remain responsible for unnecessarily hiking the prices of petroleum, the discussion has already been had that the hiking made no sense especially given Nigeria refines a fair amount of fuel used domestically. The FG have nowhere to run in this matter NNPC is not a state institution and they should come and tell us about what has been happening.

barcanista:
2. The same Governors pressurised the President to share the ECA and even instituted lawsuit. That issue has been on since 2010 when Jonathan tool over in acting capacity. While I'm pained as to why the money amounting to $20billion was shared, I am very much concerned on what the APC Govs do with their own share of the money and why is the APC pouring all the blame of ECA depletion on Jonathan when they were the ones that pressured him? Are yu saying that Nigerians should keep quiet and watch this hypocrisy?
You keep harping on as if APC hold majority shares in Nigerian matters, the FG face lawsuits everyday you can look for yourself, I've never heard of them doling out money before. Clearly there are ulterior motives. Again NOI told us this money was already invested - how did they manage to distribute this money if that was the case?

barcanista:
3. Whether Jonathan benefitted from Alamesiegha or not is not my concern. The issue is why didn't the APC Govs lead by example by opposing the ides by the Council of State? If the council of state had said "No to Alams pardon", I am sure Nigerians will blame Jonathan should he still go ahead. But you'all agreed to it and still blame Jonathan. There is a word called Conspiracy and another word called hypocrisy.
Jonathan is 100% responsible for the unforgivable pardon - In any other country this will be grounds for impeachment.

barcanista:
4. If you want to see the books of any agency of FG, petition them and they will grant you. That is how foi works. Many journalists and citizens have invoked it without denial. By the way how does that justify the secretive government of APC Govs?
This isn't true - the books should be published without an FOI request.

barcanista:
5. How can you say you won't debate and still call yourself democratic when the same you blasted Jonathan for doing same thing in 2011. This is the change you preach?
Jonathan and Yaradua rejected Buhari's many calls to a debate before, do your principles only apply to the opposition?

barcanista:
6. Buhari supported Amnesty in April 2013(the link is there and I quoted his words). Him telling London that he doesn't shows that he's old and confused.

Thanks for being civil...
Your links didn't quote him directly and I won't really call them credible. I will search on this myself. Amnesty for terrorists is wrong - GEJ is guilty of dolling out funds to known militants who now openly support him.
PoliticsRe: I Was Conned By APC, Lai Mohammed And Shehu Garba - Guardian Editor by queensmith: 2:52pm On Mar 01, 2015
no huh huh huh
PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan, A.P.C And Salient Issues by queensmith: 2:32pm On Mar 01, 2015
But Barcanista - this only further fuels the idea that GEJ is unable to take responsibility for his governance. What is the purpose of a president that is unable to control his subordinates?

1. Fuel subsidy removal was a good idea, the subsequent price increase was not. Calculations were done by a number of parties and it was agreed removing the subsidy shouldn't have led to a price hike. Whether or not APC/PDP voted for this move the FG and NNPC are responsible for imposing further and unnecessary hardship on Nigerians in the wake of this scandal.
You cannot with one breath claim you are unable to support subsidy and at the same time claim you cannot enforce retailers to sell at NNPC rates which is exactly what Alison and GEJ were trying to tell us.

Are APC responsible for the fact GEJs government was paying 600x the amount in subsidies that OBJs government paid? Is APC responsible for the refusal of NNPC to adhere to Yaradua's command that subsidy no longer be paid to the greedy petrol retailers?
If GEJ is incapable of calling order to his cabinet then he doesn't deserve to be in his position, you do him no favours calling attention to his ineptitude.

Did APC order the killing of civilians during the protest? Was it APC members of the house that refused to protect civilians against manslaughter by enforcement agencies?

2. Crude Account depletion is a topic I am very curious about -What exactly have been the FG's plans on saving in the event of oil crashes and global money crisis? I will assume reserves such as the ECA exists solely for this purpose? Otherwise if the money is to be shared between governments a sensible finance minister and her president will suggest how exactly this money is to be spent and sign off on any proposed projects. Of course I understand neither the finance minister here or the President have any sense. Instead they can blame Governors, if they refused to pay what will happen?

NOI even assured us with that her igbo mouth that the money has been placed in all sorts of funds and investments and what nots - I know the government won't be able to immediately cash in if the funds were indeed invested. So the only logical conclusion is that she lied. She's a liar like her boss. Thankfully they knew the Governors will only steal the money otherwise Nigerians will have faced one hell of an inflation crisis - $20bn into an economy like Nigerias with no suitable plan? That can only lead to catastrophic effects, we must thank the governors for funnelling this money abroad.

We need strong leadership, at least a leader that will say no!

3. CHIEF ALAMESIEGHA (how do you pronounce this surname sef?) I won't take this nonsense - the pardon of this man is and forever will be a complete embarrassment to all Nigerians.

NOBODY DICTATES TO A PRESIDENT WHO TO PARDON, this is one thing GEJ cannot push on anyone. It is called a presidential pardon and only he has the power to issue this, it Vetoes law and order and should only ever be used with due care. Clearly GEJ also benefited from this mans criminal activities. APC indeed.

4. I'm not sure what books you've been seeing I haven't had the privilege, for example we are still unable to see the nature of contracts issued by the NDDC. I cannot for the life of me find credible documentation regarding our tax income. We are still unable to see the audit report on the NNPC, we remain unprivy to the shady accounting of both NPA and NNPC and Jonathan still hasn't declared his assets and expenditure. Abeg where did the idea GEJ is running a transparent leadership come from?

I will also like to see a financial breakdown of the loan received by Lagos - the FG shouldn't be signing off on loans of this nature without it. The FG is busy signing your life and future away and you are encouraging their folly.

5. The issue of debate is not imperative to the future of Nigeria, refrain from this nonsense.

5. Amnesty to terrorists is a terrible idea - it will be nice of you to quote credible sources so we are assured. But I believe the General made his stance known on terrorism and corruption. However GEJ remains telling us stealing is not corruption and resorts to paying off militants. I think we can conclude where each of these men stand.

I agree - although it seems as if INEC weren't really prepared the postponement will allow PDP to plan their anticipated rigging.

As it stood initially with so few people collecting PVCs southside (likely because they have more important things to do) APC may have won just due to that.

They may very well lose and Nigerians can look forward to another 4 years of hell, but I don't think the progressives of Nigeria should lose hope. APC have fought a good fight and with good candidates they can win the next one and Nigeria can look forward to better times and a less corrupt government.

PoliticsRe: APC's Manifesto, Unrealistic And Full Of Deceit - PDP. by queensmith: 12:42pm On Mar 01, 2015
Just seeing this:

kaboninc:
Like I said, the electoral manifestos are promises of a political party to be fulfilled should they be elected. In order not to unnecessary sway the electorates, in their interest, its becomes imperative for these promises to be costed! That way, they present themselves to be realistic.

In terms of social welfare , the APC through Buhari said that they'll provide N5000 for 25 million Nigerians. So concerned electorates like me 'helped' them to cost that promise and this is what I said about it:
I'm getting very tired of doing this, please where exactly in the manifesto have APC made these promises? I've read many manifestos, I can't memorise all of them.

kaboninc:
So it means that's a bogus, ambiguous and unrealistic promise spuriously guided to lure gullible and unsuspecting voters, like your humble self into voting them!

So it is Buhari who lacks common sense by releasing details of his party's strategy? What a grown-up you are! Very terrible! You must be from the Stone Age to think like this! Ever heard that you gain knowledge by sharing knowledge? I guess you haven't since it is obvious you even lack knowledge.
I'll pull out the big guns for this one - I will like to say I have been exposed to political systems more sophisticated than the Nigerian one. It is not yesterdays knowledge that parties are unwilling to expose exactly how they intend to fund certain guarantees before elections. As everyone knows, the incumbent government can copy this model, or immediately debunk it as they have the knowledge you as the opposition dont. It can also lead to candidates losing voters in case they will have to introduce additional tax.

Now if you are unaware of this then that is your problem - this is an intelligent campaign strategy that may be above and beyond your level of understanding.
