KingEbukasBlog: It is not by our power or by our might .
When you are bleeding profusely , you can attempt stanching the flow of blood by applying pressure while calling on God to help you . When medical assistance arrives , it does not mean the problem has been solved or God has withdrawn his help .
There is no guarantee medical assistance will ensure that you live . Its all God . So you attempt to stop the flow, that's all you, not god. Medical assistance arrives.... Where is the role of God in all this?? Or does god need you to stop the flow or does he need medical assistance to perform his miracle?? |

annunaki2: Different times different dispensations. The whole of human history up till the second world war was filled with wars, conquest and empire building. It was certainly the norm then but the human race bolstered by the christian dominated western civilization has gone beyond that primitive mentality and now frowns strongly on such barbaric acts. It was the norm, therefore it was okay for god to join the party and start killing people. Just imagine your defense of your god, everyone is killing, therefore god should kill And Christianity never bolstered the human race.... Christianity gave us the crusades, the inquisition, slavery. Look at the USA, it's the Christians that were in support of slavery, racial segregation and the likes. Till today, Christians are still more likely to be racists... So, no, Christianity didn't bolster anything. Take a look at Africa, there are many Christians but there is a lot of backwardness too |

Image123: Again, it has been established and is clear enough that Christians are not allowed.Evidently,it is frowned upon now whoever may do it. Also, the mode of operation is not the same like the OP assumed or estimated. See it this way : Action 1 is breaking a glass cup. Reaction from you if an elderly or weak person did action 1 would likely be different to if a young or careless person did the same action. Same action, same you, different response. You're an hypocrite i suppose. Action 2 is detaining a thief for 3months. If you did action 2, you would probably be prosecuted as a criminal but if the police station did the same action, they'd be commended. Same action, same thief. Point is that even when you think the actions are the same, the consequences and reactions are not necessarily the same, that's the reality of life. Life is not a set of equations or a physics laboratory. So on what basis do we judge the boko haram terrorist and exonerate the people of Israel? |

KingEbukasBlog: If the same thing happens in other religions which I strongly doubt , then from a Christian perspective their powers are from the wicked one - Satan whose purpose is to deceive people into thinking that have found truth in false religions
2 Corinthians 11:14–15 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
The last crusade I publicized here which I attended , the Muslim who testified said that the experience he had was never undergone when he was a Muslim . He acknowledged that Christianity is totally different . He also lamented about the persecution he faced from his Muslim family and the threats he received .
Even in Christianity , false pastors use false means - juju - to perform miracles . Miracles do happen but the source should be the contentious issue . Great!! So Christianity has as much claim to bring the true religion as every other religion that has supernatural occurrences. Nothing special about Christianity then. |

Image123: Stop disgracing yourself shamelessly on the www. No Christian is allowed by God to do what was done in the Old Testament as we are not under that dispensation. That aside, what was done then is far different from the callousness and criminality of terrorism carried out under masks and in hiding. I'd list them for you if your brain fails to still process. Israelites didn't take laws into their own hands to kill but it was the work of soldiers. Soldiers didn't go about killing all gentiles or unbelievers. They meted out judgement on the inhabitants of Canaan whose cup of iniquity was full, according to God. They didn't go blowing themselves up in Babylon or Egypt or Assyria or Rome. They didn't kill in secret or hide under masks looking for virgins in paradise. Life was easy for them, they didn't take it personal or tie the world to their chest like you. They didn't abuse or misuse power like you would if given the chance. You and other atheist are potential terrorists and hazards, only that you lack opportunity or platform. I'm sure you would stop prayers and worship if you could, find some diligent work to waste your frustrations on. -No Christian is allowed to go around killing but u share stories about how your god killed people indiscriminately in the bible every Sunday. The story of the fall of Jericho is very popular in children Sunday school classes but the story contains the murder of all of them women and children included- - so because they were soldiers and didn't wear masks, it makes their actions right? U know there are also Christian terrorists right? |

skeendyke: Your earthly father gives you advice, helps you when in need, gives you his support when you need it but he also cautions you against certain actions that displease him and attract certain consequences. You never go about telling people that you hate your father because he threatened to take actions against you. You still love him and do those things that will make him proud of you. You love your father because he has shown so much love for you.
Why is it, then, that when God cautions you against taking actions that displease Him you label it a threat? You ignore God's love for you. You ignore everything He has done to show His love for you. You ignore the fact that His warning is not aimed at showing His supremacy over you but to show you that He loves you so much that He doesn't want you to end up in destruction.
He doesn't need your permission to destroy you or the world. He can destroy everybody who speaks evil against Him or those who hate Him in the blink of an eye. He doesn't need to wait till you die before He punishes you. However, if He did that then the death of Jesus Christ on the cross is in vain. Christ would only have died for nothing. That's God's love and patience in action, displayed through the death of Christ on the cross. My father cautions me but he doesn't threaten me with eternal roasting if I don't obey. That's love. There's no how a person who loves another will burn that person eternally in an inferno. Can your father so that to you? Can you do that to your son? |

skeendyke: It is hard for you to imagine that there is no fear in love. King David is a good example of someone who loved God so much that he said he would rather be in the house of God, to spend much time on His Presence. He said he thirsted so much for God and followed hard after him. This same David, you know, never knew anything about heaven or hell, or mansions in heaven or any of that. He loved God with all his might. Why? He had seen the goodness of God in his life many times and for that he loved God.
We love because God loved us first....
If you love your earthly father, is it because you are scared he will punish you for your wrong someday? As a toddler, a child, a teenager, an adult?
Fear is slavery...love brings freedom I love my family, I don't fear them. But they didn't need to threaten me with fire to love them. If God is love why would he plan to burn people in eternity |

dalaman: Humans have done it already. We have a few groups of people that we have chosen to serve as our law makers. Once they deliberate and make laws we have to accept them whether we agree with them or not. Once the law makers say rape is wrong it is binding on all people that live in that society. That's how all laws were made. Before the religious institutions were used to make and enforce laws, now we don't use them anymore. Discriminating against gays in the wet is an example I an think of. It is now on the same level with racism. I know many people living in the West that detest gays and will happily discriminate against them, but they can't because a few law makers sat down and made it the law that gays must be accepted and not descrininated against.
Majority of the American people living in the South were totally against civil rights and equality when the civil rights act was passed into law. A few law makers passed it and it became law. Blacks had the same rights as whites despite the fact that majority of the white were totally against it. Racism open racism and segregation became a crime in the US after the civil rights law was passed by law makers including those from the south whose constitutents were against it. Soft work... Will just like to add, those people living in the south, that are against equality and civil rights are generally Christians. While the liberals are the least religious... Morality is not just absolute, but the one created by religion is backward |

Richirich713: In other words society decides what is right and wrong, meaning apartheid in south africa was not immoral, which makes morality is arbitrary and very inconsistent considering how people condemn other societies.
I hold to objective morality, not absolute. And evens if morality was absolute I don't see how it follows that we would all agree on what is right and wrong.
I would say that slavery in OT was about indentured servitude not chattel slavery and it was specifically existed to benefit the poor. U can read more here: http://christianthinktank.com/qnoslave.html Apartheid in south Africa was condemned by majority of south Africans who happened to be black. The only reason apartheid happened is because the rich white minority lorded it over the black majority. So u are just proving my point. You would say slavery in the bible was so and so... But u cannot give one bible verse to support that assertion. Slaves could be beaten to death, could be bought and sold under the law of Moses. It was wrong in every way possible. If you're arguing that morality is objective not absolute then u are shooting yourself in the foot. Because if it was objective it won't keep on changing |

skeendyke: I don't know why atheists keep thinking that Christians only serve God for the reward they can get from Him as well as from fear of being thrown into hell.
True love for God is based on His love for us. I love God so much that I can never imagine life without Him. His goodness towards me cannot be estimated. His love for me is unconditional. If God loves me so much as to send His only begotten Son, His Word made flesh, Jesus Christ, to die in my place so that I can live, the little I can do to appreciate His great sacrifice is to love and worship Him in return. I don't care if hell or heaven exists. All I care about is to be found in Him, to please Him and be with Him. His love for me is the beginning and end of my decision to follow Him, not heaven, not hell.
Add to that, perfect love casts out all fear. If you love God so much what does the fear of hell have to do with it? Nothing.
If there was nothing like heaven or hell, I would still love God and do good to please Him. Many would still be good and many would still be bad. You have simply being scared into loving God... |

alchemist13: Hmmm...
I think the reason for posts like these is to show how human the supposedly God-breathed laws were. The laws in the OT are precisely what you would expect from a patriarchal ANE society e.g women are to be unclean for twice as long if she gives birth to a girl as opposed to a boy.
It is hard to phantom why a just God, as described by Christians, needs such discrimination. It is not hard though to understand the law coming from a thoroughly patriarchal system: it is to reinforce that the female is inferior.
There are countless examples of such laws in other societies. These are what you would expect to be absent in a true divine law. The argument the these were OT times does not cut it. God convinced men to cut a part of their genitals why can't he convince them to treat women equally? Think about it. Spot on! |
