PoliticsRe: Bomb Blasts: SSS Takes Suspects To Court by realborn(m): 3:56pm On Oct 11, 2010
uwaifiokun:
What some Nigerians don't understand is that when the President said MEND had nothing to do with IBB (Independence Bomb Blasts), he meant that what MEND stands for is contrary to what the perpatrators of the blasts are/were trying to achieve with the blasts. If Okah is linked to the blasts, he is not representing MEND or the Niger Delta on this deed but rather his selfish and criminal interest while using MEND as a cover.

Thank you,Mr.Pingu. for the clarifications. You see, some Nigerians like Ciroma, are not only very perochial, but mischievious and criminal. The President out of his understanding made a tacit comment on the Unfortunate blast,He was not wrong to say that people have now siezed the MEND apperatus to commit heinuous crime, like the one we all experienced on 1 oct.

If you all recall, there was atime last month, when a group of so called militant payed a visit to the babangida campaign in Abuja, nobody is asking what was promised these hodlums if they could help secure support for them. There are alot to this problem,if we must be frank.

I think the president was right. He is just being quoted out of contest. It shows the level of those who are aspiring to lead us and their illicit and silly ways of analysing issues to satisfy their evil intentions.

I wish my fellow country men and women to open their eyes, please don't be decieved.
In as much as the bomb blast events differ from the agreed amnesty process, GEJ has no business making utterances that definitely exonerate MEND. He should have qualified his statement. Was he at any time a member of MEND? Does he know the number of factions in MEND? This should even open his eyes to see that there is more to MEND than the lot that embraced the amnesty.

Secondly, Jomo Gbomo has been the custodian of MEND's email address and password since pre-amnesty and post amnesty. Thus a faction of MEND still exists. The motive and intent unarguably may (or may not) have been sponsored by a frustrated few from anywhere in the globe; but i reiterate that investigations and interrogations must commence from whoever has been associated with MEND in the past to ensure there is no mole and obtain information that may lead to the identifying who the new MEND protagonists may be, which may also lead to the arrest of their sponsors if any.

Trained intelligence specialists must be allowed to carry out adept investigations that will lead to prosecution of those responsible for this dastardly act.

There is a report which says the average IQ of Nigerians is 65(mental retardation is below 70).

This is true because if a rogue that supplied guns to Ijaw/Itsekiri and niger delta conflagaration and is obviously broke with the end of militancy in the Delta is offered 100 million dollars from a desperate politician who foolishly absented himself as a former head of state and gives a foolish reason that the programme was extravagant(4 days later) to give as excuse for not coming.

- We believe his words and claim Goodluck is partisan and tribalistic. Nigerians are truly dumb, for Mussolini, Hitler or stalin to come back in their democracies to contest will not have been considered in those countries but in our motherland, He is not just a contestant but a frontrunner.

SHAME ON YOU NIGERIANS, YOU ARE ALL COWARDS, AND HUNGRY ONES AT IT.

IBB AND OKAH ARE ALMOST BEING TURNED HEROES AS YOU BELIEVE THE WORDS OF HUNGRY,BRIBED JOURNALISTS STOKING YOUR RETARDED EMOTIONS. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH NIGERIANS, CAN'T THEY THINK?

@dammytosh,

I disagree.
Y didnt d so called leaders disown Jomo Gbomo immediately after the amnesty if he stole their password without their consent?
Y did they not deny involvement in the post amnesty Delta Government house bomb blast of 15/03/2010?
MEND/Jomo Gbomo may be a media created proxy. But threats have been made and executed.
Definitely there is a face behind a masquerade.
Anyone associated with MEND either now or in the past should be properly quizzed for adequate information and not shielded to utter gibberish at tax payers expense.
GEJ has no business defending MEND as he is not a member.
For all I care the declarants at Aso Rock few days ago may be d impostors or former foot soldiers.
We must all stand, pray and vehemently resist the untimely loss of lives due to the Govt's insensitivity and uncouth utterances.

The perpetrators must be fished out and publicly disgraced. Enough of MEND defence and hosting of killers in Amnesty guise.

PoliticsRe: Does Jomo Gbomo Really Exist? by realborn(m): 1:54pm On Oct 07, 2010
Henry Okah may be the lead man in MEND. The claims against him maybe true or untrue.
But the Sham by someone that he or she owns MEND is out right bull shit.
Further explanations that anyone can use the Jomo Gbomo password is criminal.
Passwords are not sold on the street nor are they wilfully given.
The so called Militants that claim to be MEND must be arrested. They must fish out who sent the emails.
It is definitely someone within their fold. May or may not be used by Henry Okah.
Okah may be the protagonist, but his foot soldiers (if true) are within the Militants. Since he is in SA.

Mr. Presido must be careful at making utterances that are misguided. He has no business defending any criminalized militant organisation or persons.
He should permit the appropriate authorities to carryout their investigations
We demand for cogent and valid proofs
We demand the perpetrators are brought to book
Above all, he should be careful handling the so called repentant leaders. Most of them will seek relevance in the forthcoming election. Association with any of them may draw bad blood and an era of clashes may arise. He should refer to articles on how these groups were formed.
My 2 cents.
PoliticsWeep O Nation @ 50! by realborn(op): 1:38pm On Sep 28, 2010
I can see it, I can feel it, I can imagine the D day. Dancing, munching, laughing, hosting and celebration renting the air. Arrival of guests in Diaspora. Presidents, Prime Ministers, TV Jingles etc. Mighty men, politicians and powerful men all adorned in beautiful regalia. So much to eat, drink and take away. Lo and behold the giant of Africa is 50. Attainment of the Golden jubilee.

I can also see him, at Akin Adeshola Street, Victoria Island, holding his brush and soapy water in bottle ready to wipe my car windscreen with or without my consent dressed in tatters hailing me to give alms all for independence. He looks 9 years old in age. His body built after the similitude of poverty. Rugged and turgid from years of hustling for survival. Prominent are his eye balls, bulgy and piercing. He looks trained in the psychological art of discerning to pilfer. A handful of look alikes swarmed the ever busy road in excitement. Obviously they can hear and feel the beautiful drums far away in the capital city. They have also been caught in the frenzy of the moment. Products of a decayed society.
What a country.
The scenarios above draw tears from my eyes. What are we celebrating?
Dearth of our educational system
Decline of true leadership
Hunger
Poverty
Poor remuneration of Government Officials, men of the forces, teachers and health workers
Outrageous remuneration of lawmakers
Influx of mass shanty settlements
Spurious Political Killings
Ritual killings
Slow pace of development
High crime rate
Deplorable state of our roads and highways – worthy of mention is Lagos - Ore – Benin Expressway
No power supply
Unemployment
Corruption
Poor Health system
Religious crisis
Kidnappings
Militancy
Deplorable state of our once vibrant Sporting sector
Inflation
Economic crisis
The compromised state of our judicial system
Poor foreign image
High mortality rate
Incredible elections
Dearth of expertise, adeptness and skilled labour
Exploitation
Human abuse and brutality by men of the forces
ETC

The list can go on and on. I strongly believe that the purported sum set aside for this celebration can be channelled towards alleviating the suffering of Nigerians by providing one or more functional basic amenities. October 1 should be spent in the solitude of our homes with sober reflections and effective debate on how to move forward in the next phase of our nation’s history. It is imperative we set realistic, measurable and achievable milestones bound by time.

We need not waste so much money purchasing data capture machines and indulging in sophisticated election processes when the voters are extremely hungry. It will be a case of ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’ because rigging will be inevitable and the masses will sell their conscience for a bowl of rice. Provide food on the day of election, we will all queue appropriately and register our votes for our preferred candidate. Barring violence, the votes if counted will state the mandate of the people. Moreover the most free and fair election in this country was held in 1993 without all this paraphernalia. I am only recommending that the money be spent for a tangible project at this stage.

Reappraise possible ways to tackle unemployment. We were taught that the Government is the largest employer of labour. These days I tend to believe the reverse is becoming the case. Ascertain cost saving measures and expand the budget to include details and not ambiguous sharing quotas. It is pertinent to outline the purpose of capital budgets. E.g. itemise the road allocation by stating roads to be upgraded or repaired or created within the budget. Total length and other useful parameters. This can positively affect our economy other than mere figures with no plan in place which end up being embezzled.

I will want to stop here. The breakdown structure above of anomalies in our society should be our checklist for a new Nigeria. We should review each item and proffer ameliorating ways to replace each one with an antonym. GOD BLESS EVERY WELL MEANING NIGERIAN.
PoliticsRe: Taxi Driver Who Hit Jonathan’s Car Charged For Attempted Murder . by realborn(m): 12:29pm On Sep 28, 2010
@ all,

we are still missin a vital point.
i believe we should extend our vituperations towards the media for misrepresenting this case
we want proofs that the driver rammed into the convoy. I reiterate again since February without escalation.
someone posted a counter report citing that the taxi driver was unlawfully detained and released based on human rights activists intervention
i totally concur that apt punitive measures be taken against the taxi driver if true he actually rammed in.
but if to the contrary, adequate compensation must be given to him to show that the FG is sensitive even to the plight of a Nigerian individual.
until evidences are provided, i will assume that the above story is a hoax that never occured.
PoliticsRe: Taxi Driver Who Hit Jonathan’s Car Charged For Attempted Murder . by realborn(m): 3:53pm On Sep 27, 2010
@ Post,

I do not believe that the use of the word 'rammed' is appropriate.
I believe the Taxi driver may have been on the right of way of the convoy as was with Uzoma Okere's case
A case of atempted murder that was not celebrated in February at a time when the tension was high reflects that it may not be as serious as we have been told
It was also said that the prosecutor disappeared and never returned to court after the first time of visiting
The best approach would have been to search the taxi nd the driver to ascertain if deadly weapons or bombs were on. If none was found, then he should be warned to be careful next time.
Three months in jail is wicked and inhumane.

Car TalkRe: Which One Is Faster Automatic Or Manual Gear Transmission? by realborn(m): 3:12pm On Sep 22, 2010
I totally agree that the Manual car is faster in most cases than the Automatic.
I own a manual KIA RIO and also an Automatic Tiptronic Audi A4 2004.
I must say the KIA flies like a bird and quite enjoyable a ride when the road is free. But the downside is it can be a bad experience in terrible traffics along Third Mainland bridge.
Despite the speed strength of the manual powered KIA, I will give it any day any time to the turbo charged Audi A4. This has been tested and proven. The drive in all ramifications and cases is amazing and exciting. Either in traffic or off traffic. The ABS is on point even on high speeds.
I purchased the KIA because I could not afford the N400K difference btw its auto and manual. I needed it to augment my expensive to maintain Audi after disposing my supplementary Honda Bullet due to its incessant electrical faults.
In conclusion, 4 hia in Nigeria ooo, I will vote for the Auto drive.

You talk as if pre-qualification exercise was not conducted before this contract(s) was awarded in the 1st First. If only you know what it entails, then you will know better.

FYI, The contract was not cancelled for non- performance but for ''UNSERIOUSNESS''.

IF you believe that the contractor wil want to lose the performance bond (10% of the contract sum) attached to the contract then you need to have your head examined.

Your problem is your ''HEROIC WORSHIP'' of Fashola's corrupt stinking as$ss hole. You sound like his ACN cohort
In as much as I agree that all politicians are freaking corrupt, I disagree with your reasons and assessment of why this contract was determined or terminated. Any body can obtain a Bank Guarantee and Performance Bond and still fail to deliver. Pre-qualification exercise and a meticulous tender process are no guarantees that a company will deliver the deliverables as per the project objectives. A company may have technical capabilities but lack organisational skills and resources. A company may have the best tendering package and submission with little or no performance ability.

There are clauses in the construction contract that address determination/termination of contract. If there have been a breach of agreement by the Government or due process not followed then the company should channel their grievances.

I will conclude that this should be applauded by all and it is a confirmation that some Governments mean business. As per bribes and inducements, this is a no issue. Settlement is sadly part of every phase of our endeavours as Nigerians. He definitely must have settled appropriately to even commence the project this far. All contractors do when it comes to Government projects. I am not implying this is the case as per the matter of discuss but my judgement is based on expert judgement and construction contract antecedents in this country. Either compromised or not, ensure the deliverables are met at the desired quality, scheduled time and estimated budget barring change orders.
PropertiesRe: Calculations And Requirements For Obtaining A Building Plan Approval In Lagos by realborn(m):
This is an applaudable analysis by the Poster.
Nevertheless, to contribute my own quota being a professional in the construction industry, the analysis provided will suffice for a residential apartment on the mainland but not on the island. Approval fees differ with zone so do design fees. As mentioned by a poster in previous posts, Architectural drawings cost more than structural drawings because the Architect creates, simulates, and coordinates design. The Structural Engineer based on the design concept, generates structural parameters. For planning approval purposes, M&E services drawings are not required. But for building efficiency after construction, I will duly recommend the Services drawings are prepared and coordinated with other trade disciplines and not left to the whims and caprices of artisans during construction.

PoliticsRe: Software Engineer Faults Inec’s N74bn Budget For Voter Registration by realborn(m): 12:48pm On Aug 10, 2010
@ Post,

The piece below is neither a rejoinder nor an addendum to the topic but my candid opinion as regards the scheduled election next year.

It is humiliating that the Chairman of INEC whose resume when appointed was read with applause, credibility and antecedents embroidered in success will submit a proposal for the sum of N74B to purchase requisite equipment, manpower and training with little or no substantive details to back up the said sum.

I would have expected a detailed Project/Electoral Management Plan in place with due consideration for objectives, scope, timelines, tasks in a work breakdown structure,  planning, resources, processes, analysis, lessons learnt from past elections and cost. His duties as the new INEC chairman are to deliver credible, free and fair elections come 2011. I am afraid the objectives have started to suffer setbacks.

Howbeit that barely 2 months after his appointment he was able to confirm a budget figure? Two things might have happened:  he has not planned properly or he is acting a script. Either ways, both smell doom for the electoral future of this country and may be a bazaar/avenue to rob Nigerians of tax payers’ money.

This morning I was shocked when I heard over the radio that the National Assembly joint committees on Appropriation and Electoral Matters yesterday said N13.727billion was padded into the bugdet demanded by INEC for purchase of the Direct Capture Machines (DCM). This Jega informed represents 30% profit margin to vendors ( proposed to supply equipment).   He claimed the amount is a supposed contingency (worst case scenario) which is subject to where, who and how the equipment will be purchased. Citing that if the equipment are purchased directly from manufacturers, the profit margin will be far less and if purchased from Vendors, it will be a fixed 30% as contained in a circular issued by former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, during the military regimes. Outright gibberish.

The carnage and magnitude of corruption that exist in our polity are embarrassing.  Why would there be a policy that allows for 30% profit margin for supplies? Secondly, why is Jega indecisive on the procurement method and route? One will expect considering the quantity of equipment required, the stringent timelines bearing in mind that the elections are billed for first quarter of next year that there will be no other option but to partner with Manufacturers to guarantee timely delivery, quantity and best price. Savings on cost at this stage should not be premised on uncertainties. It is obvious that if further probed more loop holes will be found.

I have not seen the electoral timetable or programme but I sincerely doubt the possibility of having credible elections next year with inadequate planning, training, milestone reviews, monitoring and control. A detailed Project/Electoral Management Plan must be developed.

I adjudge this as a laudable endeavour. First of its kind by any government in south west Nigeria.
I disagree with fellow learned NLs who proposed that the training should have occured here in Nigeria.
Have we asked ourselves the curriculum or proposed content of the training? Do we have the wherewithal to conduct same here?
Who says if conducted here expended cost of training will not be same as SA?
