I agree with Soyinka, earlier Obasanjo said he had to hand over to the North, recently he said why should there be power rotation between the North and South. I believe he tried for Nigeria but he is sounding a confused old man, are you sure he is not 83 huh grin

Politics › Holding Jonathan hostage by rebranded(op): 11:45am On Mar 07, 2010
To some, it looked like a display of loyalty to President Umaru Yar'Adua, however misguided, when governors met with Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and made it known that they will not support him if he chooses to run for president in the 2011 elections.

However, NEXT investigations reveal that this was only an act of self preservation.

The Governors Forum is not recognised by any Nigerian law but, since Olusegun Obasanjo's administration, it has been a custodian of enormous powers, due, in no small part, to its influence in appointing ministers.

This group has been unsettled by signals coming from the acting president himself, including his setting up of a body headed by Theophilus Danjuma to advise the Presidency, without consulting them.

There are also signs that the acting president might begin to take a second look at financial impropriety involving governors and some of their cronies. Only four governors are on his side at the moment.

The acting president is also yet to deal with the cabal bent on preserving the myth of President Yar'Adua's recovery, as well as questions about the constitutionality of his ascension into office.

Mr.Jonathan's confusion in the midst of these overwhelming problems is palpable and has hindered him from fully exercising the powers of his new office.

@Binna,

I would like to know your view on Sanusi, looks like you believe he is doing the right thing and Soludo was a flop

Are u aware that about 50% of the jobs soludo's policies helped create have been lost. Apart from that the naira lost value more to 150

We are hearing inflation rate is increasing, Please tell me one positive thing Sanusi has done since he got there, and pls dont tell me those banks would have gone down, because i can assure you soludo wont allow that to happen. Plus Soludo is a Professor of Economics not some Msc Islamic or Risk Mgt man. To start with Sanusi is not even qualified for that post, what does he know about the Economy? the only things he mentions is banks banks, I have not heard him for once talk about inflation, employment, exchange rate. I rest my case sad

Stick to the facts and dissuade from misinformation. Down the line, same would come back to accuse Sanusi of being responsible for the effect of their earlier misinformation.
Biina please read the Next article again, you will see its clearly stated there,

You seem to be the only person i have met in support of Sanusi, i wonder why

biina:
my issue is with the added adjective of 'massive' and likening it to the unchecked lending we had post consolidation, which was problem not because of the volume but the areas (stock market and oil & gas) to which the facilities were predominantly extended.
As carefully as Sanusi may choose his words, we all know he is trying to encourage lending volume the way it used to be, I am not aware that CBN increased their rates to Banks so the logical conclusion is lending dropped below its former level (with the same rates from CBN) and now Sanusi is trying to pack up the MESS he started by looking for ways to encourage 'massive' lending again.

From time banks will not lend to the common man because they are high risk customers, so basically its still to their former target(customers), i stick to the fact that Sanusi is very confused!

another misrepresentation of facts. Where did the CBN say they wanted to encourage 'massive' lending undecided
Oga did u read the article at all, pls also check the Original Post

"We will reduce the level of interest the banks earn with us to encourage them to seek other areas, which means lending," Mr. Sanusi said

Business › Re: CBN Lowers Rates To Encourage Bank Lending by rebranded(m): 7:31pm On Mar 04, 2010
Am i Lost?? I thot the whole wahala in the Banking sector was because they gave out too much? So now again you want to encourage massive lending

Was that not the samething Soludo encouraged and Sanusi said he did a bad job, at least he could not have known that the margin loans will go bad.

SANUSI = CONFUSED!

The meeting between Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and Turai Yar’Adua, wife of the president, at the weekend, was devoid of recrimination and bad blood, a source close to the Presidency told NEXT.

During the meeting, Mrs. Yar’Adua focused on the themes of loyalty and betrayal. The meeting, which was attended by Mr. Jonathan with his wife Patience, was said to be brief and straight to the point.

The acting president was still unable to see the ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua, who had arrived in the country two days earlier.

Politics › Ailing President Yar'adua Returns by rebranded(op): 1:02am On Feb 24, 2010
Turai Yar'Adua has bundled her gravely ill husband onto an air ambulance and the couple and a coterie of close aides were making their way back to Abuja last night, scheduled to arrive in the pre-dawn darkness, highly placed sources told us last night.

As the nation's capital was gripped in the anxiety and near panic induced by the news, a convoy of vehicles including a new Ford E-250 intensive care ambulance made its way from Aso Rock and arrived in a secluded area of the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, awaiting its fragile cargo.

As at the time of going to press, it was not clear if the aircraft had landed, or in which city it would land. The sources say the ambulance was accompanied by the Presidential jet and that the recent installation of additional life support machine at the Presidential Villa suggests that Mr. Yar'Adua will be taken directly to Abuja, although apparently the flight plans filed on departure also list Kano and Katsina.

The news of the President's arrival is reportedly causing a lot of anxiety in Abuja especially among politicians, many of whom had prepared themselves for a post Yar'Adua era. Speaking to NEXT on condition of anonymity a source said the timing of the President's return is suspect especially as he is still clearly ill and in no position to undertake such an arduous journey. "We face total political chaos and government paralysis," an influential retired general told NEXT.

It is being speculated that Mrs. Yar'Adua, who orchestrated the return, is fearful of acting president Goodluck Jonathan's growing stature and acceptance as de-facto president of the country.
