I think you should also consider starting an ongoing Cockerel business. Chicken meat is always in demand all year round. Chicken is not eaten at Christmas and New Year events only. So there is a market for Chicken meat throughout the year. Why don't you start a cockerel business in your backyard as a side business? You can start with about 100 to 150 Cockerels and they should be ready for sale in about 4-5 months, or in exactly 4 months. You will need to construct a chicken pen or cage, but this should not cost you a lot of money. The Chicken cage/pen will be there for the long term. Make sure the cage is elevated from the ground and that it is well constructed so that rats will not be able to enter the place. I am asking because if you are not the owner of the compound, you might have issues with the landlord especially. If you want to start big with Cockerels production, you can rent a land somewhere and start off with about 400-500 Cockerels at a time. This business is lucrative. When the cockerels are mature, you can sell them to the public or take them to the market and sell them. Wonderful thread you have here.... I raised boilers and layers chicks from day old some time last year January with the intention of selling the boilers by Easter that year. It was all gloomy until I got to the market and realized that buyers preference was centered around affordability. They instead prefer to buy old layers for N1,500 instead of buying almost 4 months old boilers for N3,000. I learnt the very hard lesson to always consider affordability first before venturing into any business. I got some Noilers birds too and o must confess they were allot easier to rare compared to boilers. And I also must state that my female Noiler is a champion in laying eggs compared to the layers. She lays twice a day back then and despite being a free ranger. Although I always have layers marsh ready for her but she trouts the compound to scavenge for other food too. I made losses from the venture bcuz I was forced to sell the birds off for way lesser than my investment.

@Ade3131, Hmn. The truth is old layers are no longer very nutritious when they stop laying eggs. They are like spent bullets. However, those that buy them for their meat do so because of the cheap price old layers are sold for. The meat of old layers chicken is not that nutritious again. I think you should go into Cockerels- raising of Cockerels and selling them all year round. The meat of Cockerels is very nutritious and you can get good prices for them. Cheers.

Government is not father Christmas but same government over the years had destroyed the lives and livelihood of her citizens. Dangote came around and built a world class refinery under how many years?? If just Lagos, Ogun and maybe Ondo who are bordered by oil rich communities and collaborated and built just one refinery in the past years, do you know how many jobs would've been created.....hence the number of taxpayers in each state?? If they'd planned and laid inter-city train tracks across the nation do you know how many jobs that woulda created. All this politicians do is build hotels, fuel stations, clubs and some small businesses here while they invest the billions of dollars in the Emirates, Europe and the Americas....in most cases I don't even call it investments but unnecessary lavishness and show of opulence around the world.


Soon enough they'll all meet their Waterloo.....e remain small, just small.

How are the majority unemployed? Many Nigerians are engaged in doing one thing or the other as a means of livelihood. Do you know that collecting house rent is a means of income for landlords that should be taxed? How about the many Nigerians running Fish Farms, Poultry Farms, Schools, food businesses etc? People buy things and sell them online or in the open markets etc. What I am postulating is that people should pay something every month as their tax to the government, no matter how small. Don't wait for the tax office or tax man to harass you before you drop something. Even if it is 3000 Naira you can pay every month, pay it to the relevant tax authorities. If we can all pay our taxes on the work of our hands every month, then we can make demands on the government. Then we have the right to protest and ask the government to support every citizen adequately during this pandemic period. Less than 5 Million Nigerians out of about 200 Million Nigerian Citizens pay their tax to the government. Cheers.

Because they are benefiting from the current system of refining the product outside the country.

You have spoken well. One of my lecturers at the University when I was a 200 level student told the class that- ' Nigeria is being stolen blind by Nigerians '. Everybody is participating in the looting of Nigeria, from the Presidency to the Principal of Ajanla Secondary School in Ajanla town. We are very wasteful as a Nation and as a People. You will never succeed trying to fill a basket up with water. There are too many financial and money leakages in the Nigerian system. Take it or leave it, Nigeria is a wealthy country. It is only being mismanaged. People start a business, start making some money, but they cannot even pay 2000 Naira monthly as tax. Na wa for Nigerians. Hmn.
