I know the dude in the video. His name is Ebun Okubanjo. We attended the same secondary school in Ogun State in the 90's and I was his senior. He was in JSS 1 when I was in SS 1, if I can remember clearly. I doff my hats off to him for having the courage to run a business in Nigeria after living in the USA for many years. I can't remember him being a violent person or rough guy. And he comes from a good and well mannered family- I know his brother and cousins ( We all attended Ijebu-Ode's premier secondary school for Boys ). The transportation, accommodation, feeding is expensive in Akure and light is very bad at Akure unless you living at govt quarters. Dubious 419 plenty for Akure like seriously. Please go for Ibadan.

Just coming across this thread now. I served in Akure too way back in 2005/2006. You are very correct with what you have just said. Seems things have not changed that much in Akure, Ondo State. Light was very bad then in Akure . I stayed with two fellow corpers in a room at Isolo. Food was a bit expensive too. On accommodation, I can't really say if Akure has more expensive Rooms and Flats to let compared to Ibadan. I schooled in Ibadan but I stayed on the University campus throughout my 4 year degree program. Akure has some positives though . It is a place that is technologically progressive when it comes to internet and cable facilities. You can thrive in Akure as a start-up because the calm atmosphere and quietness to think is there. And I think affordable office space is available too, based on what I noticed in my one year stay in the City. Cheers.

Can you prove the theory that more than half of Nigerians live on less than $ 1 USD per day? Yes, poverty is real in Nigeria but it is a relative thing. $1 is about 360 Naira. Are you telling me that the breakfast of the average Nigerian is not worth more than 360 Naira? Do you know that someone in Abeokuta or Akure is eating a bowl of eba and egusi soup as his breakfast this morning? How much is this bowl of eba and soup worth if a European chef is made to put a price on the meal? And don't forget that there is a piece of meat and fish in the soup . So the meal alone is worth more than $ 1 USD. Is this guy not working? He has a room he rents on a monthly basis. Many Nigerians live like this man or even better than him. Even the goat seller in Kano has more than $100 USD on him at anytime of the day. Western nations have their deep problems too, including hunger, poverty etc. The only thing is they have a good welfare system.

Ignorance on the side of the Western world and African Governments. It is a two way thing. There are hungry people in the advanced nations too. These people line up to be fed in city centers in Europe by Charity organizations once or twice a week. Even in some homes in Europe, the quality of food they eat is very poor. Food is not cheap anywhere in the world. People are rushing to food banks in the UK. The difference is that there are more opportunities to get a job in Europe, USA, Australia, Canada etc. In Nigeria, people do not know how to make good meals from the crops they see in the Market. Nigeria has a good diet and meals roster. Look at the Northerners in Nigeria . There is absolutely no way Northern children should be malnourished with the availability of Maize, Millet, Sorghum, Acha, Beans etc there. These grains can be processed into different kinds of meals for Northerners. So, I don't always subscribe to data and reports provided by Foreign Agencies about Nigeria. I did not live or work in the Netherlands. I worked for SITA too, but in England. I also worked for Veolia in France around 2009 and 2012. I never lived or worked in Holland. Yes, Veolia and SITA have Recycling Plants and Sites all over Europe. As for the shitty diapers, I also came across them. Life brings its own challenges to us. You sef sabi am . Recycling Plants in Europe and America are treasure troves, depending on what you find on the conveyor belts on a daily basis. If you are a good sifter and picker, you will find stuff that you can sell for good money online. All kinds of things are mixed with the rubbish passing in front of you. I had the experience many years ago, working at a Recycling Plant in Europe. I found US Dollars, Mobile Phones in good condition, clothes, books etc. Yes, Congolese men and women are dominant in the recycling industry in Europe alongside people from Ghana. I worked with them. There was this Congolese dude who brought a big sack to work every night . He would search the rubbish thoroughly and put all the household items, toys, books, clothes etc he found into the sack and drive home with his loot in the morning. Someone told me he sent boxes of things he found to Kinshasa every month for his family to sell for him. The guy was always hardworking and committed to work and the whites loved him. But he knew what he was getting from the Recycling Plant. This life oh .

If you work in recycling plants in the UK and you sort out the rubbish on conveyor belts, you will find a lot of precious things in the midst of the rubbish you are sorting. And if you have a business orientation, you will make a lot of money by selling the things you find on ebay or send them down to Nigeria to be sold for you. That is why the workers at this Recycling Plant returned the £15,000 to the couple. They know how much they make from Shoes, good clothing, DVD's, Computer parts, Flash Drives, phones, books etc they find in the rubbish they sort on a yearly basis. Not to talk of Freezers, TV Sets, Computers, Furniture etc that are also thrown away by people at Recycling Plants in the advanced world .

Makinde is doing his best as Governor of Oyo State. He needs to take some giant strides very soon because 4 years will soon be up. 2023 is not too far away. He needs to create and implement programs that will stand the test of time in Oyo State. Fixing roads, paying salaries etc are good and commendable, but Oyo State needs:

1. A Trade Fair of International Standard
2. Apprenticeship Program for Teenagers and Youths in the State.
3. Agricultural Scheme where people in the state are encouraged to maintain Gardens and Mini Farms in their homes, schools and work places.
