Ondo State has a lot of potentials. The little I saw of the State during my Service Year ( NYSC ) is enough to convince me that under a series of good Governors and innovative commissioners, Ondo State can become the State to beat in Nigeria.

The Asians are more organized than us. That is why the Indians, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese, Malaysians etc are 2nd in the Pyramid of Importance in Europe and North America. The whites are at the top, the Asians are in the middle, and Blacks are at the bottom of the Success Pyramid in Europe. This is why Indians look down on Nigerians and other black Africans. Indians come to Nigeria and set up industries while Nigerians are doing all they can to enter Europe, Asia and North America. Nigerians are even growing in their numbers in Australia these days.

So how will they respect us? The whites accept the Asians more than Africans because they have lighter skin and can blend into white society more than blacks. The Asians have also proved to be successful retailers and businessmen and women in Europe, USA and Canada. We need to be more organized and invest in Africa for us to get the respect we want from Whites and Asians. Once you stop fighting to enter Europe and start making business from your Country, the whites will start giving you some respect. In retrospect, this is the kind of stories our Newspapers and Magazines should be publishing . There is nothing bad in traveling or living in Europe and other white nations. However, Nigerians need to be told what is actually going on in Europe and North America. Asia is a kettle of fish altogether, so I won't dwell much on that side of the World. There are things we can learn from European Societies and adapt those things back home in Africa and Nigeria. Yes, Nigeria can be frustrating and we have all kinds of problems. Yes, our leaders are not doing what they should do and we don't have enough infrastructure. But tell me, where do you feel free 100%? In Nigeria or in Europe? In Nigeria or in North America? Do you know the owners of Wilson's Juice in Nigeria? Seun and Seyi Abolaji returned to Nigeria after 20 years living in the USA. Their Lemonade Juice business is doing well in Nigeria. What do you think prompted these brothers to return to Nigeria? I don't want to say too much here, but Kester Audu will do well in Nigeria in whatever he decides to do with what he has learnt in Germany. The Nigerian Media does not report on people who returned from the white man's lands and who are doing well back home. We only read stories about the journeymen and women who were deported .

I say this because you know them. They are not financially prudent, and after giving them the 20k, you will still be expected to send feeding money to them monthly.
I would advice you to just make it a priority to send them feeding money.
They have no idea of the business environment in Nigeria. Even those that do are struggling. Most businesses are run down within the first 5 years.

Not in Nigeria alone. There are businesses that are equally doing well in Nigeria. It is because you have not read about this businesses and their owners. I am just trying to tackle your hasty generalization .

As for the OP, I think he/she should do research about viable businesses in Nigeria that the parents can engage in. At their age, it would be better to open a business like Frozen Fish Store, Supermarket ( where you can send down even used items for them to sell there, alongside Provisions etc ) or help them set up a Poultry business they can manage. And you should try and travel down once in a year to checkup on the business they are running. You are in a very tough situation. I wish you the best. Cheers.

@op, you did not talk about taxes in Singapore . 85% Citizens and Foreigners in Singapore pay tax. The tax system in Singapore is well managed. Singapore's population is about 6 Million people ( not up to the population of Lagos State ). So it will be easy to pay parents such amounts of money for their children. The way taxes are collected in Nigeria is not very good. And many Nigerians are not paying tax , even if they have the means to do so. The money gotten from oil is already budgeted in each state. And many State Governors are not that intelligent, so they can't transform their States into Industrial havens. Vote and pray for intelligent Governors in Nigeria.

Why would a grown up Woman or Man expect his sibling to cater for his or her responsibilities? This is the highest height of irresponsibility. Don't they have hands to work? Africans have a lot of issues, mehn.

Nice business It is better these shoes are sent to other countries from Europe, Asia and America instead of being sent to landfill. Recycling Shoes and Clothes by selling them in Africa is not a bad thing. People will still wear traditional clothing on occasions and events. It won't also stop local shoe makers if they make better designs of shoes. At least, people will be able to look good with a small amount of money by patronizing 2nd hand Clothes and Shoes sellers.
