It will be interesting to see the final 12 players that will represent Nigeria at the FIBA 2019 Basketball World Cup. There are more friendlies lined up for D'tigers.

One of the reasons for the 2 legged friendly game against the Dominican Republic is that Coach Alex Nwora is trying to see if he can get 2-3 players who can fight for spots on D'tigers final 12 Man Roster for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. In the game against Dominican Republic yesterday, one player stood out and he is Gabe Vincent. Gabe Vincent plays for the Stockton Kings in the NBA G-League, USA. He is a native of Stockton in California but he has Nigerian heritage. He entered for the 2018 NBA Draft but he was undrafted. He is a unrestricted free agent in the NBA and he is 23 years old. Gabe Vincent was outstanding against the Dominicans yesterday. He hardly missed his free throws and he passed the ball well. We hope to see more of him in the 2nd leg of the game tomorrow.

Nigeria's Male national basketball team, D'tigers, defeated the Dominican Republic 81-85 in a action packed game full of tension yesterday, 20th July 2019. The game is part of the preparations of D'tigers of Nigeria towards the FIBA 2019 Men's Basketball World Cup to be hosted by China ( 31st August - 15th September 2019 ). The game was played at the Palacio Presidential Basketball Arena in the Dominican Republic. Coach Alex Nwora of Nigeria and his boys gave a good account of themselves and withstood the tense atmosphere laced with the support of the home fans who were expecting a victory for the home side.

Some of the D'tigers players who featured in the game include Deji Akindele, Ike Iroegbu, Gabe Vincent, Christopher Obekpa, Tosin Mehinti, Stanley Okoye etc. Captain Ike Diogu did not play as Nwora was testing out some new invitees to the D'tigers camp. One of them, Gabe Vincent, was outstanding in the game. D'tigers had a good offense but defended averagely and their loss of concentration several times led to the Dominicans closing up the 12 points lead of D'tigers from time to time. Dominican Republic also gave a good account of themselves and made moves that wowed their supporters. There were lots of scraps between both teams throughout the game. It was a very physical contest. Alex Nwora and his Assistant Coaches still have a lot of work to do on the team's defense as they continue their preparations for the World Cup. Nigeria will play Dominican Republic again tomorrow ( 22nd of July ) in the second leg of the friendly game.

Gabe Vincent was impressive in Nigerian colours during the game .

Hmn . This just goes to show us that many people are not professional when making snacks. They could actually source for beef to put in the meatpie at affordable prices. It is all about planning and budgeting. If the makers of the meatpie are producing them in large quantities, the catering could buy a goat or ram, butcher it and keep the meat in storage. This will mean that meat will be available all the time to be used for making the meatpies. People should learn how to be honest when making snacks for the public to consume. Is the meat in the pies not diced meat again? Na wa o.

@ OP,

Sorry about the demise of your dad. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

Back to the topic of discussion. Please go into selling high grade used clothes and shoes for ladies and children. It is a goldmine if you know how to source your inventory cheaply from Asia or Europe or North America. You won't have to spend too much time running this business, as the market is already there even on your Campus. Just make sure that your customers pay you immediately for their purchases. This will make you have running capital to bring in new stock all the time. Cheers.

Don't go into snacks or popcorn production. They are time consuming and unpredictable ventures for students. Follow the advice I have given above.

You'll need to state what type of work/jobs will be done in the factory before anyone can recommend the most suitable floor tile or a better alternative.

It is a food processing factory. There will also be a storage area there. I am not looking for fancy or expensive tiles. I just want strong and rugged tiles that are affordable. Fhemmmy:
That is all i have been preaching all along MY brother . . . BUT many will rather wait on the government till they are old and gray. . . .The opportunities in rural is endless BUT people refuse to see it, but as long as human see issues instead of opportunities, they will always pay homage to the slave masters

I don't just understand how many Nigerians reason. Maybe they need to travel to see how the world operates . With the internet, people in the village can learn new farming methods from other African countries and even from Europe and Asia. They can learn Bi-Cropping and Multi Cropping Systems from Asia. They can even get seeds of vegetables from Institutes in Nigeria and Africa. Some of them can start breeding Rabbits in their towns and villages, process rabbit meat and bring the meat to sell in the Cities. They can even advertise their Rabbit meat business on nairaland and Facebook. The problem with many people in Nigeria is that as soon as they start making money, they forget to invest some amount of money into improving the facilities they have. They fail to buy new equipment and tools that will help them expand their business. What is wrong in buying acres of land cheaply in the rural areas and within 5 years, turn those acres of land into a huge Banana or Plantain Plantation? Every 6 months, you will get banana and plantain suckers and plant them in a section of the land and you keep doing this continually for 5 years. Because you are living in the rural area, you can monitor your Plantation, hire local guys to patrol your Plantation twice daily etc. Why are we not thinking in this direction ?

WhoBeThisMan:
any how you look at it, that also means farming is not as lucriative anymore

Mr Man, who told you farming in Nigeria is not lucrative anymore? No matter how much food is imported into Nigeria, farmers will still sell their food and make profits. Have you visited Poultry farms along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and asked the owners of those farms if they have ever regretted going into Poultry farming? Agriculture is a blessing from God. The soil will give back to you what you sow in it. Animal husbandry and crop production are viable business lines. Food Production is also viable. No matter how much you earn, whether you are unemployed or underemployed or jobless, you must surely eat something. You must drink something too- Cold drinks, soft drinks, yoghurt, lollipop etc. Abeg, don't say what you don't know here.

Fhemmmy:
Again, all i am saying is this . . .If you depend on someone that can't help you, what do you do? Move on and help yourself. The government don't have what it takes to help no one, Nigerian politics is not a "Help the masses" kinda people, but grab all you can while you are there.
But this is not for us to talk about politics but to talk of moving forward by grabbing the bulls by the horn, no one will help NO ONE, so i have to help myself and you need to do same for yourself
However, if the government turn around and decide to help, great!
A government that for decades can't even provide the people with basic light?

@ Fhemmmy, you are making a lot of sense on this thread. I hope Nigerians will adopt your ideas and way of thinking and stay back in their States of Origin to engage in useful ventures. People are not thinking deep at all. In this era of globalization, youths in Villages can order for small machines from Asia and start making food products they can sell in their vicinity. To an extent, electricity is sometimes better in the rural areas as there are no industries in these places. Farming can still take care of the needs of people in the rural areas. People can get seeds from IITA and other Agriculture research institutes and start vegetable farms in their villages. They can then come together to transport the vegetables to the markets in the big cities. There is enough land for them to use and even if they don't own land, they can rent land for small amounts of money from families that own the land. People should start learning to do for themselves . The internet is there for them to research business ideas they can work in their States of Origin. Accommodation and cost of living is cheaper in those interior areas. Why don't people build good lives in the other states, rather than coming to Lagos to come and suffer ?

In retrospect, he should be thanking his stars that he is alive and not coming back to Nigeria in a body bag. When there is life, there is hope. People have been deported in the past and they returned to the country they were deported from some years later and became citizens of the same nations that deported them. Why do Nigerians think deportation is the end of life? There are more than 130 countries in the world, for Christ's sake .

This man can still make it to another country in about 2-3 years time if he does not like Nigeria ( Shallow minded people cannot see the gems in Nigeria anyway ). So, why is he shedding tears like baby. Na wa o.

oloko1859:
in my location
sand (10tons) - 12k - 15k
20tons - 32k - 35k
cement - 2,700

the only shop they may open is to quote extra .materials for their own gain, best way to checkmate is to buy blocks & cement in batches. I also feel a 20tons plaster sand is too much except if it will be used for other things

@ Oloko1859, which location are you? Please let me know. I appreciate your contribution. How many tons of sharp sand do you think can be used for this job? I concur about the price of the cement. Cement is 2700 Naira per bag in Ikorodu axis. I'm talking about Dangote Cement. And then, is there a need for plaster sand to construct the Soakaways? Can't they use sharp sand alone. I don't know much about construction, but is granite always used in making Soakaways? I have a lot of questions about this quote. I need more contributions from builders and forum members . Thanks.

Cindino20:
you dont know the depth of the soakaway in your own house and u re expecting someone else to guage it with pictures

without the dimension and the information about the site,no one can comment on the quote you ve up there.

If you ve doubts about the materials buy them yourself and just pay for workmanship whatever is left you use for other stuffs.

I am not physically on ground at the moment. That is why I can't measure the depth of the soakaways myself. I will get the measurement done before the week runs out. But what do you think about the whole quotation, sir. Thanks.

Good Afternoon, how is your Sunday going? How was service? May the good lord continue to guide and protect us in Jesus name. Amen. I pray for open doors for all of us this coming week in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

jgbemson1:
U can actually source all this prices on your on compare with the one given to u

That how I did mine ..
You can call me for more advises on how to go about it

@jgbemson1, thanks for your advice. Can I have your whatsapp number, please? Thank you. Where can we source the materials at a cheaper price in the Ikorodu area? Do you think the quotation I was given for the construction of the soakaways is reasonable or exploitative? Look at the quotation again and please let me know the flaws in it. Thanks.

rotecch77:
As a builder the quote is moderate talking from experience.
The only thing there is the quantity of the sand he can't finish the whole sand for this job , but the issue there is that there is now way he can get 5 tonnes tipper in that axis which the cost will be btw 15k or so, actually there will be a left over of the sand at site after he might have finished the job.

@ Rocchtec77, thanks for your contribution. I was told the sand will have some left over, but can't sharp sand be used for the job alone? Why the need for plaster sand again? I don't just understand.

Cashmanbreeze:
From the little I know;
Cement 2450
12mm - 2400
Sand - 8000

From this alone, somebody had opened office on your head

@ Cashmanbreeze, are you sure of the prices you have quoted above? Location of the site is Ikorodu. Are you saying a tipper of sand is 8000 naira? Can you give a deeper analysis of the quote? Thanks.

@ Hajji M,

I don't know the actual sizes and depth size. But you can guage the depth and sizes via the pictures. I will try and get the sizes as soon as possible. However, do you think there is a need for plaster sand? And 1 tipper for that matter ? Hmn.

I was given this quotation for the construction of two soakaways. I am thinking the quotation is too expensive to construct two Soakaways. I want builders in the house to help me find out if I am being overcharged or if I am unrealistic. I will upload the pictures of the two soakaways, so you can help me make a decision to approve the quotation. If you can construct soakaways and can give a better quote and do a good job, please let me know via this thread. Thanks.

Carpenter

Sunmil ( Whatever this means ) 20 pieces 1000 Naira each = 20,000 Naira
Bamboo 10 pieces 300 Naira each = 3000 Naira
Nail = 2000 Naira
2X4 wood 10 pieces 500 Naira each = 5000 Naira
Binding Wire = 2000 Naira
Carrier = 3000 Naira
Workmanship = 15,000 Naira.

Total for Carpenter is 50,000 Naira.

Iron Bender

Iron 12 mm - 12 Length Pieces 2600 Naira each = 31, 200 Naira
Binding Wire 3 Dozens @ 800 Naira each = 2400 Naira
Ring = 2000 Naira
Carrier = 3000 Naira
Workmanship = 10,000 Naira

Total for Iron Bender is 48, 600 Naira

Bricklayer

Blocks 150 pieces @ 200 Naira each = 30,000
Sharp Sand 1 Tipper = 35,000 Naira
Plaster Sand = 1 Tipper = 35,000 Naira
Cement 12 Bags @ 2700 each = 32, 400 Naira
Water 3 Tanks @ 3000 Naira each = 9000 Naira
Granite 5 Tons 35,000 Naira
workmanship = 30,000 Naira each

Total For Bricklayer is 206,400 Naira

Total amount to construct the Soakaways is 305,000 Naira. I feel this amount is too much. What do you think, house? Look at the pictures properly.If you have a better quote, let me have it . I am also thinking 150 blocks is too much for the soakaways. I also don't know why plaster sand should be used for a soakaway . I am not an engineer but I will do my best to answer your questions and I will appreciate your suggestions. I need urgent advice. Thank You.

Nigeria's population is close to 200 Million. No doubt about it. Many people were not counted during the last census in 2006. A good number of Nigerians were out of the country during the census and returned after the headcount. Do you know the number of Nigerians in Cameroun, Benin Republic and Togo who go in and come out of Nigeria on a weekly or monthly basis? Nigeria is about 190 Million people, minus Nigerians who are in Europe, America, Canada and other parts of the world .

Please this thread should be moved to the Front page of Nairaland immediately. We are talking of people's health here. The mods should do the needful quickly. Thanks.

Very good advertising. Kudos . Your writing is great and the way you used pictures to promote your business is amazing. Nice concept. Cheers.

In a country with a very sunny weather that makes paint on buildings fade quickly or where rain falls constantly with the attendant peeling off of paint on walls, we should be having business people looking into making Coloured cement. People can plaster the exterior of their homes and properties with colored cement and use normal paint in the interiors. Why is Aliko Dangote not thinking in this direction. Colored cement exists in some parts of Africa and many developed nations.
