grin grin grin

There were elements like you in my class back then. But they weren't as lucky as you. grin

You would make away with my toy and claim ownership? shocked Ehn, kini? grin

You wouldn't do it again. grin
Ha shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked You are very funny. Yes, people had to buy these Cowboy and Indian Toys. Are you serious that you picked them from the ground shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked? I never saw any on the ground o. I had to buy them from women who sold them in Shops and in Kantas. I was really fascinated with them and would act my own Movies with them on a table on the Verandah of our house. My younger siblings had theirs too. All the youngsters in my area were into collecting these Cowboy and Indians Warriors toys. We also fought each other over their ownership, especially with some boys in my Primary School. Memories cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy.

You mean these things were around in the 80's! shocked Wow.

I played with MILLIONS (grin) of them in the early 2000's. grin We used to compete over whom had the largest collection of them. So, the richer, the better. grin

I wasted so much money on those things. So much money. cry
Yes, Bruv. These Cowboy and Indian Soldiers toys on horses were around in the 80's smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley They were very popular in Nigeria then. They were sold by women that sold stuff in 'Kantas' ( Those trading tables that had desks and were placed near the Streets ). They were also sold in shops and by Mallams who doubled as security guards and had kiosks outside people's homes. I had many of them too, though quite a few of them were destroyed by our dog called Whisky. I would come back from school and whisky would have chewed some of them to pieces. Very naughty dog like that huh huh huh huh huh. The Green Army soldiers were also popular, but many of my friends had these Cowboys and Indians toys and we competed with each other in class, on who had the best squad of soldiers. Memories cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy.

Those days we had what I term "creative imagination/visualization". We made things up, plan, fought and won battles in our head. It was all fun. I think they may get fascinated with these types of we choose to play with them. I think the parents of today see the PC/Phone games as easy escape from the too energetic kids.

Got some boys coming up. The last set of toys didn't make it into the second week. Tyres and occupants all gone, I de wait for those NL auto dealers that buys scrap cars to make me an offer. cheesy cheesy
Thanks. I have this feeling that retro toys are going to be a big hit if we introduce them to our Children. Retro toys like the Commando Plastic Soldiers and these Cowboy and Indian Soldiers toys smiley smiley smiley smiley. These retro toys are still selling in Europe, North America and Asia. Children of nowadays in Nigeria are not that creative because everything is now placed into Computers or Phones, which is not a good thing in the long run. Yes, you are right with your observation.

You forgot to add the green commandoes cool cool cool cool Sweet old days.
Thanks, My Brother. I remember the Green Commandoes. They were plastic soldiers. I bought them too, but I had more of these Cowboy and Indian Soldiers toys. I was always buying them. Do you think children nowadays will be fascinated with the Cowboy and Indian soldier toys? What do you think? I don't want to believe our kids are only interested in Computer games.

I played with these Cowboys and Indian Toys when I was in Primary School in the 80's. I used to buy them for 30 kobo to 50 kobo per piece then from those women that sold household goods in their Shops cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy. I had loads of them and I played with them by placing them on a table on our verandah and banging on the table softly to make them move. I considered the ones that fell down dead in the heat of battle. Did you play with these Cowboy and Indian warriors and soldiers toys too? What are your memories about them smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley?

I am just having memories of my childhood.

Many of Our celebrities are not as wealthy as you think. Many of them are swimming in debts and live very fake lives. The ones that have real money and sustainable wealth among them live low profile lives. These are the celebrities that own Companies and Shopping Malls and yet you hardly see them on the TV or being blogged about all the time.

You are right to an extent, My Brother. I have observed that not too many people think deeply in Nigeria. People find it difficult to think out of the box. Laziness also contributes to the very slow pace of development in Nigeria. Cheers.

Neyoor:
You are right bro, I just finished my Post Graduate Diploma course in journalism and I must confess that it really worth it. At times, I do wish I never went to the University to study a course I will hardly practice because journalism is an inspiring and exciting career. I used to admire the ND and HND students of the NIJ because they are vast in journalism already.

In addition, the OP can enroll for a course at school of journalism while he join a media outlet as an intern. He will be able to be putting his knowledge into practice during his course of learning and he can even be lucky to employed into that media outlet during the course of interning. This has really been helpful to me.

I appreciate the aspect where you talked about specializing in a particular beat of journalism because the world of journalism is getting saturated already. Yeah, that's the way to go, if you can't get yourself employed in a media outlet. You can just choose any beat and start blogging on it consistently and before you know it, you are at the apex already. Climate change, energy, education, health are niches begging for attention. News and entertainment gist is over saturated already.

Eventhough, Mainstream media outlets that produces Newspapers are going into extinction already but we have some online media outlets that are replacing them and also absorbing extraordinary journalists into the profession.

Investigative journalism is another aspect of journalism that is selling in Nigeria. You can be a freelance investigative journalism and be making your money steadily.
Thanks, My Brother. You now have a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from NIJ. You will surely be successful as a Journalist if you know what you are doing. NIJ trains you to be an entrepreneur in the Media business. The Nigerian Institute of Journalism ( NIJ ) is a place that not only trains you to be a well grounded Media Professional and a Information Researcher, but you are unconsciously trained to be innovative in many different aspects of life. 75% of my Classmates at NIJ are doing well not only as Media Professionals, but as Movie Producers, Businessmen and Businesswomen, Actors and Actresses, PR Specialists etc. You can also publish niche Magazines and Newspapers online and offline to make good money as a Journalist. Think of Success Digest by Sunny Obazu Ojeagbase etc. The Education sector in Nigeria needs specialized Magazines that can cover that sector. You can start with 1000 copies of your quality Education Magazine and go to Schools physically to introduce your publication to Proprietors and Proprietresses, Headmasters, Principals etc. Just start from there. Ditto for the Catering and Hospitality Sectors in Nigeria. God bless you, My Brother.

[quote author=Uchenaija post=71066285]Please, can you provide a little more details on the NIJ?

How much is the programme?

How long is it?

Do you they have a number of courses?

What's the difference between it and Federal Radio Cooperation Training School & also reading English or mass comm in a university?

Hi, I feel you should go to NIJ itself to get updated information about the institution. www.nij.edu.ng

However, i need to tell you some things from experience. You can't compare a graduate from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism ( NIJ ) with a graduate of Mass Communication from Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria. They are Worlds apart. NIJ graduates are well drilled and taught properly than Communication students from other institutions. At NIJ, you are the fundamentals of News Writing, Broadcasting, Advertising etc. NIJ is a specialized school, unlike Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria where you take general courses along with your Course of study. They don't also teach deeply at Universities in Nigeria. At NIJ, you are able to focus on Communication courses and you are not saddled with too much Courses. Cheers.
CareerRe: I Want To Choose A Career In Journalism by Redman44(m): 9:18am On Sep 10, 2018
Christmasdon:
what's the difference between Frcn and NIJ?
FRCN is the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria. FRCN owns and operates the Radio Nigeria Stations ( I hope Radio Nigeria 2 etc are still existing ). FRCN's headquarters is located in Ikoyi, Lagos. FRCN has a training school. My brother attended FRCN's training school and obtained a Certificate from the place. FRCN should have courses in Radio broadcasting, Radio Management and Production and associated Courses like Advertising and Public Relations. Use Google to find out more about the FRCN Training School.

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism ( NIJ ) is an accredited Institution that offers Courses in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting ( I heard NIJ now has good quality broadcasting facilities ), Marketing etc. They have these Courses at Ordinary Diploma and HND levels. I think they also have Postgraduate Diploma Courses at NIJ. NIJ is more of a private institution, but it is recognized by all the Media outlets in Nigeria. NIJ Certificates are respected in Nigeria and other parts of the World, especially Africa. NIJ prepares you to be independent in nature and self sustaining. After graduating from NIJ, you should be able to start your own Media Organization on a small scale. I attended NIJ, so I know what I am saying. Studying Journalism exposes you to a lot of things. Journalism can be lucrative if you know how to go about it. Stay Blessed.
CareerRe: I Want To Choose A Career In Journalism by Redman44(m): 8:42am On Sep 10, 2018
I attended the Nigerian Institute of Journalism ( NIJ ) and I have a Diploma in Journalism from the Institution. Honestly, Print Journalism is on the decline all over the World. You can still study Broadcasting as a Course, if you intend to work in a Television or Radio Station as a Newscaster, Continuity Announcer or Production Assistant. Due to the advent of the Internet, sales of Newspapers and Magazines have fallen drastically all over the World, especially in Asia and Africa. However, if you can design a good news website that provides specific information to a sector of the society, you will make good money. Something like Agriculture News, Education News or devoting your website to reporting about Basketball in Nigeria. You have to write about a Niche, not general news. You can start a Website that will provide feature stories about the Catering Industry in Nigeria, which is blossoming at the moment. People are venturing into making snacks, cakes etc. You can publish a Magazine online that will provide information specifically for the Catering Industry in Nigeria and ask people to subscribe to the Magazine online and also print like 1000 copies of the Magazine monthly.

You can attend NIJ, My brother. It is a very good journalism school. I have not regretted attending the Institution which is now a accredited Journalism School. Cheers.

I have this feeling that Wizkid is climbing the ladder of a secret organization, judging by the Class of Women he is moving with these days. My people, shine your eyes wella. Wizkid is talented, I agree. However, I feel there is more than meets the eyes about his recent moves and those he is associating with. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe I am right. Time will tell.

We used to have about 5 Guava Trees in my Dad's house in Lagos from the early 80's to around the year 2003. The Guava trees used to shed their fruit on the floor of the compound too whenever the wind blew hard. Very similar to the pictures above. Agriculture needs to take the main stage in Nigeria once more. We have very fertile soils.

CrimeRe: Kidnappers And Killers Of John Iheanacho Arrested (Photos) by Redman44(m): 4:43pm On Jul 08, 2018
Kudos to the Law Enforcement officers who investigated and arrested this group of killers. I wish the media in Nigeria can report more stories like this, instead of focusing on baseless and useless Politicians, their horrible Parties and their stupid activities. There are still many good officers in the Nigerian Police Force. We are just being fed bad stories by the media on a daily basis.

I am not a Politician but assuming I become the President of Nigeria, I will increase the wages of our Security Agencies ( Police, Detectives, Sars, Military, Civil Defence etc ) and also bring in Mossad, the FBI and other respected Security Agencies in advanced countries to train our Police Officers and Detectives on a consistent basis. I will take 3% of the Money earned by the Nigerian Customs Service from our Ports to make this idea happen and successful. Nigeria needs to be secured. Cheers.
