In this new vista of power devolution coursing through the veins of this nation, with security responsibilities being franchised to other power centres I think Mr. Senator, that REPRESENTATION should not be left out, out of the wave of reforms towards a new Nigeria. You want to reduce the burden on the people and improve on the efficiency of service delivery, you don't power down the responsibility, no. YOU SPREAD IT. You involve the largest demographic in financing it, in monitoring it, in OWNING it. One of my pointed advice to this country has always been to have the Legislature FINANCED, SUPERVISED and DIRECTED by the owners of democracy, the people. It is not ironic that the Senator is speaking to 'the government' to handle this matter. Is that not most funny... Number One: Are they not government?, is the Legislature not headed by a 'President'. Are they not of EQUAL standing in the Constitution with the Executive who he is 'appealing' to. Do you need to ask anyone for help to reform yourself....I don't get it. Number Two: Why do all these institutions and arms of government ALWAYS shut the people out. Na we get dis democracy. Na awa property. Na awa moto. Na we go service am, fuel am. Is he afraid that if we OWN HIM, that is pay him and consequently task him as a servant indeed, that his days of enjoyment are over. He is feeling guilty that he is living a life not anything like the people he should represent and prosper, but he just cannot bring himself to a place of true service. Nigerians should help his conscience and demand that the Legislature should be about the people. Top to toe. From financing to directing it. They are NOT a parastatal of government, they are EMISSARIES of the people. You don't send someone from the village to the town without giving him transport fare, a satchel of food and a token for lodging. How will he go and survive there. Nigerians should demand for the kind of restructuring that makes for States sponsorship of Senators and LGA's to sponsor their Representatives if the people feel they cannot do that by direct taxation. Then the people will decide how many days they can afford to keep their people in Abuja and Mr. Ndume can be voided of guilt. |
When a State CANNOT effect law and JUSTICE this is the result. Disorder, retribution.... So what will the DPO now do....convene another 'PEACE' meeting.... What is the business of the police with PEACE. Are they not supposed to uphold the law and maintain order without fear or favour. You offend IN ANY WAY, they step in and apprehend, investigate and prosecute, period. This country is a complete mess. The things, the elements, the ingredients that make for a stable, safe and fertile nation ready for progress and development just do not exist. Without law and order nothing can move this country forward because nothing that is planted will grow. |
Bahamas95:Experienced minds know that World Cup 'form' and theatrics do not always translate to a successful club career. The patriotic tonic and the gidyness of locking horns with the best in the world at the biggest stage just cannot be replicated at any club in any league. Arsenal may be making a similar mistake with their desperate quest for the so called Moroccan midfield 'maestro' just as Real Madrid did with a certain Hamish Rodriguez.... |
Almost every African country has qualified for the next stage. Wither Nigeria....the supposed giant of Africa. This will have been the easiest opportunity to make a deep run in this tournament with a plethora of weak and average teams but we blew it once again due to the disorganization hardwired in our collective DNA. We are forced to stay up late to cheer other African nations that do not respect or particularly like us. We are forced to to sit at the table like some adopted but unwanted child who has to fake smiles to get a morsel....must be tough to be a Nigerian soccer fan these days. |
Hussein035:So what is the point of all the debate since it is inevitable that we will end up killing each other. Can't we just get it done. |
To comment on a war that has no end is just futile. No one is interested in peace. An eye for an eye will eventually blind every one of them. Look at what it is doing to Nigerians thousands of miles away. People that have their own issues, their own challenges.... remarkable isn't it. |
OriOko88:Those two are not better than what is on show here. Both players are terribly slow, no pace, not good for counter attacking against an offensive opponent. |
See Haaland dey hide. Fear, fear man... No Bernardo Silva or the indefatigable Count Doku..... ![]() |
I don talk am. Na France get dis cup. |
It has never been this bad in the polity. We have had two retired military men, two former military Heads of State return to lead in mufti and led for a combined 16 years, both with such considerable baggage from their military days you naturally expect them to perpetuate themselves in power by all and every means, yet the political space was never this vicious, never this hijacked and held hostage this way. Not since 1999 have we been this close to absolute autocracy or it's alter ego, military rule. Mr Tinubu will certainly be remembered infamously for this.....this period. There will surely be a lot of books to be written, a lot of whitewashing with the tears of regret. |
Told you folks. They have NO PLAN for economic revival the way you understand it to be. They expect you to ADJUST TO POVERTY and start scratching like a chicken to survive having taken all your money and given it to family and friends for all manner of contracts. And you know what... There are even bigger plans to take more from you once they win the next elections. Just strap in and standby. You will understand at last. Understand the importance of advocating for good governance. They saw you did eight years under Mr.Buhari without a whimper and he left scot-free. So they too will run you over hot coals to satisfy their greed. |
Kemetian:I completely feel you. We are just not inquisitive and explorative in this country despite the huge number of potential ingredients at our disposal due to our climate and diverse vegetation, etc. |
Armaggedon:Hunger.... This post is for folks who eat for pleasure. |
LocalBuka:Are you not fed up with rice and stew. It practically irritates me these days. My system has shut down to tomato stew for up to three years now. Need something new. Nigerian cuisine is not improving. |
OMBIIGA:Every state has the capacity to operate a police service. Every state has a civil service. Policemen do not earn more than the average civil servant. States spend billions and billions on all manner of things that are wasteful and corruption ridden. It is up to the citizens to decide whether they want the waste or the responsibility. Do you want me to make a list of things states are irresponsibly doing that should be exchanged for real services.... |
Naso. But Federal police can be collecting state government yearly 'donations' of unending number of patrol vehicles, building and renovating of police stations and barracks, procurement of kits, ammunition and even armoured personnel carriers. They can do all that but cannot hold the police to account or direct it appropriately. There is a certain section of people who simply does not want the Federal government to lose the monopoly of the authority and the instruments of the law and this is simply agenda based. Simply because they want to do as they please, to ride roughshod over the country, committing all manner of atrocities and evade accountability. Not stopping here. After a season a new debate will open for even local government authority. Real and proper authority including local government police to complete the barrriers to criminality. Remember, mosquitos account for the largest number of deaths worldwide of all animals created. Yet the net that will stop the lion, the net that will stop the snake will not stop them. You have to continue reducing the size of ingress until society is free from harm. |
After 'drone shotting' they will take their pack of noodles, eat and start looking for another sensation. Isn't it clear to everyone after 26 years of democracy that the number of poor, depraved people that turn up for these jamboree are for the handouts.... |
An adult woman cannot even pay electricity bills....haba. Means she has no income at all, no work, no vocation.... nothing. Means she was 100 percent dependent on the man.....hmmm... |
If any Nigerian runs into these fellows on the highways, who wouldn't think they are bandits. Security services wear uniforms for a reason. Let us end this nonsensical vigilante and forest guard and have proper law enforcement please. |
Tradition, tradition, tradition....ever masquerading our avarice....and this person's parents were likely born after independence but cannot promote that ethos and give rather than receive.... |
pocohantas:And what happens in the all too common domestic incidents of rape and other sexual vices perpetuated by men (since we have decided to digress and make this a gender confrontation). Should the woman be arrested and charged. Won't the argument become one of, 'oh she wasn't aware he was doing all that'. Why don't we all stick to the centre of the road and let the course of justice prevail. There are enough procedures and laws for this. There is no need for any other. If the other party is an accessory, he or she will be proven by facts, standard investigative procedures based on evidence and witness testimonies as we do here in Nigeria. People who are accessories are charged with crimes in this country. But to say a person should be charged simply based on relationship or proximity alone is going too far. Start down that line and where does it end. You start measuring the distance of audible screams to find out which neighbors to arrest or you begin to investigate which relation visited and when.... doesn't make sense. Just like the question of corruption and the question of the ecosystem around it. Saying that the banker who cashed the cheque, the gas station attendant who sold him fuel to drive to the airport , and the airline that sold him the ticket to flee the country should all be charged because they encountered the corrupt figure.... |
cococandy:Desperately trying to change the narrative. 'Most times....and the husband is sexually abusing'.. 'Sometimes the sexual abuse comes first....' To portray the typical action of the wife as a result of the husband. The Adam and Eve phenom that will never end. So what is it. Sometimes, most times.... And will all this be applicable if the tables were turned and the primary act was that of the man, say the molestation of the help. Can we then say, 'most times....'the wife is sexually abusing'....and 'the sexual abuse comes first...' meaning the husband was a witness and decided to do his own as well. |
S alezzy13:All that is supposed to be sorted out in consult. You are supposed to be asked before prescription. |
So the Mexicans are what... Foreign investors...or foreign technical partners....or |
Wow. That's impressive. A shot in the arm for those who want to do right. A magnet for desperados who will want to win at all costs. They should strengthen regulations and be ever more vigilant to ensure fair play and best practices. Good one. Another thing the FA can help do is the cultivation and the eventually regulation of talents for international trade. This is another potentially huge warchest. Can assist in running our game here in Nigeria, boosting the league and strengthening our domestic clubsides. If we can bring expertise to aid these trades earnings can continue long after a player has been sold to overseas clubs with the proliferation of sell-on clauses these days. |
Still early but it is looking like an Argentina v France final yet again. Both these teams are heads and shoulders above the rest. I think France will win this World Cup. |
You will never see government near such places. Their business is contracts where they can hide graft. Other countries treat their producers and industrialists like rock stars, the real geese that lays the golden egg. Here they fight to slaughter them all thinking all the eggs lie in the belly. When will we have a government that will spot these golden opportunities and cultivate them through a deliberate policy of industrial integration such as linking the producers of primary inputs such Dangote Petrochemicals to partner with, supplying raw materials at lower costs for a set period so they can stabilize and compete internationally. So many things government can do to galvanise the industrial sector as the primary organiser of society. The relationship should not be restricted to tax and tariff collection. We need intellectual, visionary leadership and this country can be transformed in no time. People are ready to do great things if they are organised progressively. |
Exactly what I was telling someone this morning and said a few weeks ago. There is no concerted plan to rescue the economy as many will understand a rescue to mean, that is an ease in the cost of living and a rise in their livelihoods. The gambit is simple. Nigerians will adjust, get used to high inflation and rising poverty levels as a 'new normal' and once the heat is turned down they obviously tighten the screws even more. Expect even higher inflation, more taxation and more cuts in social spending in the second term of this government in favour of their much hyped and trumpeted infrastructure based solutions to the country's economy. Beyond building this and that THEY HAVE NO OTHER PLAN FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY, NONE. |
Failed man. With this he has proven to every doubter why he is not a father figure. |
nairalanda1:Yes, Nigerians will willingly pay for security services without a doubt. They will pay for what they see and affects them positively on a daily basis. People pay for security at local levels. They have been paying for years privately, corporately and in their communities through vigilantes and so on. Nothing new there. What they won't pay for is for services not rendered. Services that are misused and abused or services that are used as conduits for corruption and mismanagement. I continue to repeat this. Nigerians pay for things. Nigerians do a lot of things for themselves just waiting and begging for efficient and effective leadership to organise them. |
motymop:Any citizen that chooses to be oppressed is their business. How can you vote for someone to 'oppress' you. When citizens are ready to rid themselves of sentiment, reject handouts at the polls and demand accountability and performance from those they WILLINGLY elect, then and only will they will be free of oppression. The rest of the country cannot wait for poor quality citizens to catch up. |
About time. Well done government. |
