This is quite disturbing.
Almost nothing has changed from the GEJ era.
Things only got worse, generally speaking.
Someone is saying exchange rate is the reason. But the nitwits think folks are stupid like them. They have failed to realise the price rise from 80 to 140 is in tandem with the exchange rate rise. For subsidy to skyrocket is what the white man calls 'double jeopardy'. Something is not adding up. And the fact that the 'most transparent' government in history refuses to light up the scenario indicates that nothing wrong is going to be fixed.

At least in the previous regime real transparency led to the discovery of massive graft when the figures claimed were simply unbelievable. Now that the figures are even more shocking, no way to tell what is going on. Tell me if this is a better scenario today than back then.

I keep on telling folks. Corruption is not the problem of Nigeria or any society, it is structure. The right structure with independent, functional institutions is the key where citizens at all levels have a degree of power. Today, the word of Mr. President is bond and law. And today even where he errs, it is impossible for society to recover. How can the destiny of a nation beheld by the wprds,a ts and disposition of one man without question.

Democracy without fail safe is bound to fail. Today Nigeria may be losing billions to waste or thieves. No way to check, no way to redress. We just have to 'believe' all is well. Is this what a human being sacrifices a vote for?......

The exchange rate is the answer to your question; the exchange rate now is twice what it was in 2012 (N150/$ to N305/$), and consequently, the landing cost of fuel is twice what you would expect it to be when compared with figures from 2012.

I'm a bit confused at why this simple factor has evaded the minds of everyone dropping comments on this thread.
I see. But exchange rate was not a factor pre 2015. It was corruption then, now it is exchange rate... cheesy

Anyway I have said it. By 2019 everyone will be demystified.

16 years divided by 5 that's 3.1

PDP had the opportunity to build 3 MEGA refineries i mean twice the size of Dangote's refinery @Lekki free zone at 5 years completion period

PDP had the money to finance the project too , But the fraud they and their flocks enjoyed with subsidy scam was so much better than actually improving the situation of the country to them

5 years interval each and it would have been byebye subsidy for at least 20 more years , but then ...

Shipping crude outside is not free, refining it is not free , re-importing finished goods is not free either as a matter of fact these costs have increased exponentially , the only reason why the subsidy cost is being monitored is because some people are calculating how much they'd have gained if Buhari had given every tommy dick and harry the chance to import directly
So after 3 years and with the next election looming where are the refineries of this change government. Even if it foundation laying ceremony.... none. Abeg go siddon. You can see that all the local refinery hot air of this government pre 2015 was merely smoke and mirrors. Please, try another angle.

huh Unbelievable... just four years...

But the Brazilian scouting system is just first class, the way they manufacture these talents is just amazing.
Here in Nigeria, with over 150 million people they cannot manage to find a half decent striker to pair a washed out Ighalo. All we do is look for is finished products of mixed perantage whose only claim to performance is the better environment theygrew up in.

Tell me in four years what will Gabriel Jesus have learnt in Brazil to make him start as top 9 for the 'Selecao'. The boy is just raw talent, period. We on the other hand want 'foreign based professionals' even if he plays in Azerbaijan and cannot control a five metre pass and when we cannot we will recycle old cargoes till tjey can barely walk.

We have serious mental problems in Nigeria.

if you cant coup with their laws then dont go to their area.....
Exactly, so why the angst against states that don't want open grazing. Why are the present authoroties openly taking sides with the antagonist herdsmen. The same people want to conduct themselves and their businesses in other territories the way they want yet make laws to curtail the activities of others in their own domains. I wonder where the Interior Minister, the Army Chief and other herdsmen sympathizers are at this time.

The last time I checked, Nigeria was still a secular state and no contrary religious laws should enforced. But we know in reality that Nigeria belongs to them, the rest being second class citizens and their territories conquered by default. Is this a balanced, just society?. Can Nigeria work this way. With this can anyone reasonably expect sections of Nigeria not to want out of this abusive relationship.

If the religious police and adherent citizens of those climes were attacked by non natives and the southern, 'non believing' security chiefs appealed to them to rescind those laws as the reason for the violence and then go on to disband the Hisbah, what would happen....will Nigeria not go up in flames...

If middlebelt and other southern states cannot control and restrict the movement and activities of a certain group, then no state should have the right to infringe upon the liberties of any Nigerian of any background in any location whatsoever. That is equity. That is justice.

As I watched the Argentina and Iceland match today and
wondered why there were no black players in the Argentinean
team when other South American teams had black or biracial
players, I remembered a conversation I had last year.
It was while I was on a cruise from Florida to the Grand
Cayman Islands in the Caribbean.
Between an Argentinean doctor and myself, who had walked
up to me during lunch one day and struck up a conversation
with me.
There was no hiding the attraction.
We had bonded much to the chagrin of her three Argentinean
friends.
On the deck of the ship that day, she kept going on about how
she loves black men and looks forward to traveling so she can
meet them.
I asked her.
"Don't you have black people in Argentina?"
She said with a matter of fact candour.
"No. Long time ago, after slavery, we killed them all."
I was taken aback.
She smiled.
And continued.
"Very bad. I am ashamed of my people. It was very systematic
though. Very well thought out. First they forced most of the
men to fight for Argentina against Paraguay. They knowingly
sent them into battles that were poorly planned so that the
Paraguay army will do for them what they couldn't themselves
do. Kill the blacks. Most of them died there. The remaining of
them they forced to live in this province were there was a
plague. A disease that the government refused to curb so that
it can also do for them what they couldn't do. Kill the blacks.
The refused to set up hospitals, clinics, adequate shelter, food
outlets, nothing. They created the best environment for the
disease to thrive. It killed the rest of the men that had
survived the war. The darker you are, the higher the chance
they will send you to that place to live or to the war to die. The
lighter skinned women they forced them to sleep with the
white men, so that their children are biracial, then they forced
the children when they grew older to sleep with white men, so
that the blackness of the skin of the children became whiter
and whiter until there was no longer any visibly black people
seen. It was so bad that blacks fled to Chile, Peru, Bolivia,
Brazil and even Paraquay where they were better treated even
though not as well as they should be treated as human beings
deserving full equality. Atleast those ones did not want to kill
them and accepted to give them protection and a means of
livelihood. As a matter of fact in Chile, there was a city called
Arica where Black people were so accepted and respected
that in the 1700s two black free man, one called Anzuréz were
elected mayors. But the white colonial masters from Spain
came six months later and nullified the elections, they were
afraid of other cities giving black people too many rights. But
the blacks who had found succour did not complain, they sent
word for others to flee Argentina and come join them. Afterall
what was cancelled elections compared to certain death?"
Then she went silent as though trying to replay the magnitude
of the crime in her mind again. Then she said it in a sombre
tone in order to drive it home to me.
"The ones the Argentineans did not kill through war or
disease, and rape and impregnate, fled the country and
ultimately we got rid of the blacks."
I listened in rising sorrow.
She continued academically.
"So although they abolished slavery in 1815 in Argentina, it
continued until 1853, after that the main preoccupation of the
leaders was how to get rid of the black slaves and their
descendants. Our president who ruled us from 1868 to 1874,
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, wrote in his diary in 1848, this
was long before he became president and slavery ended that -
'In the United States… 4 million are black, and within 20 years
will be 8 million…. What is to be done with such blacks, hated
by the white race?' - It shows that he was already thinking of
how to eliminate black people before he became President
and when he became President, he succeeded."
"Didn't the world say anything?"
"No. They ignored it. I am sure most of them wanted to do the
same thing but failed. At that time, they admired them. I
remember when I will go to Brazil as a child, my father's friend
will say in disgust as he looked at the black Brazilians - we
should have had your guts and finished them off. All of them.
Make Brazil white just like Argentina."
"And the Europeans?"
She laughed.
"It is an open secret, just like King Leopold and his genocide
in Congo. No one talks about it, but they know about it.
Atleast the older ones do. The younger ones not so much.
Why do you think all the Nazis ran to Argentina after World
War 2?"
I was silent.
She continued.
"Because it was the perfect place for the most evil racists in
history to live."
Then she looked out to the infinitely blue sea around the ship
and sighed audibly before she continued.
" Sadly, to some extent, it still is welcoming and accomodating
of racial hatred. We took the Tango from the African slaves
and made it our own. In Argentina, not one person will tell you
the true history of that dance. They don't want to associate it
with Africa. In fact if you ask them about black people in
Argentina they will tell you that there has never been black
people in Argentina. They teach them in schools. They rewrite
the history. They make it all white. And as I said it is all
underneath the surface. They never come out and say we hate
black people. Argentina is only for whites or anything like that.
They have just fixed the country to only be for white people."
I looked at her friends, Argentineans like her, who were
lounging on the chairs on the deck, clad in their tiny bikinis,
drinking pina coladas and smiling.
She followed my gaze and then turned to me.
"Don't be fooled by all those smiles, scratch the surface and
you will see that all they want is for you to disappear."
Toronto.
Is she talking about Argentina or parts of Nigeria...abeg we have worse problems here...

Christianity Etc › Re: Ghana's Deputy Minister Of Transport Bans Preaching In Public Buses in Ghana by Reference(m): 8:48am On Jun 17, 2018
Digressing a little, I can see a lot of angst about the role of Christianity in society and nation building, particularly Nigeria and I must admit it is very naive

To start with. People are increasingly turning to God because the systems operating this nation has failed and not because Christians or Christianity is responsible for Nigeria's backwardness. Africans were no better before the gospel came to our shores. Nigeria is not exclusively a Christian state, it is secular so how can it be exclusively blamed for the nation's fortunes and finally amongst the world's religions Christianity is the most modern, dynamic and observant of civilised practices.

Of course due its size and diversity the Christian faith will have many angles, practices and practitioners that are untennable and perhaps unsavoury to some but to the beat of my knowledge Christianity and Christians have been responsible for some of the greatest advances in science, technology and the arts. The great United States of America was founded on solid Christian principles and its growth, progress and development couldn't have come without hardwork but other countries work hard as well but are not as successful.

What I say in a nutshell is that. Nowhere in the Bible is indolence and sloth encouraged as a way of life. Similarly, nowhere in the Bible is progress ever encouraged without God as the centre, focus and fulcrum.

Those who have this balanced view are exceptional hard workers. I for instance believe exceptionally in God Almighty as the reason for my life and the purpose for my achievements, consequently I work day in day out. Since I left paid employment I have no holidays. I work virtualky 18/7 and only take time off when exhausted. When you see other men of faith and what they do with their time and still manage to live for God, then you realise the error in the presumption that those who preach the gospel are idle and have nothing else doing and nothing to contribute to social society

Look at Bishop Oyedepo for instance ans his commitment to education. Can you say those are the works of idle hands or retrogressive thinking. Is he not positively impacting the educational landscape in Nigeria. And he could do more in other fields of industry but for the statutes that limit what churches can do

If a man is lazy mentally or physically, it is not on the back of Christianity. That is an inate characteristic that even the scriptures frown at. Christianity is not responsible for tje country's backwardness. You know why we remain undeveloped but you just choose to find a scapegoat elsewhere.

veron007:
Sir, please stick to the argument. Let's for once forget the name callings. Let me give you a little piece of history. I am from Jos but my parents were living in Kano before Nigeria's independence. And we know that Biafra has nothing to do with Okukwu. We was only unfortunate to be the governor of Eastern Nigeria at that time (I used unfortunate because his family that use to be one of the the richest black family lost everything. He financed the war partly with his family's trust funds). When the killing of Igbos started in the North and it was evident that the government of the day was fully encouraging and in some in cases actually do the killing itself. That was when the governor of the eastern state requested that Igbos should be sent home in one piece and gave assurance that once you make it down to Biafra land you will be safe. He had to create a safe zone for his people.
How do I know about this? Beside that house I grew up in Kano was a burnt and destroyed house. We use to play in it around the early seventies until we found a human skull in it. We were shocked as kids but my father and uncles were not. They quietly took it and reburied in the same compound. On inquiry when I was in secondary school my father told me that it was from the original owners of the house. They were Igbos and were killed by northern soldiers and mob. And it was the same all around Nigeria in 1966/67. Biafra came out of necessity and self preservation. It has very little to do with Ojukwu. I'll drop more personal history when I have more time.
Thanks for this angle of our history which a large number of youth today are shielded from but has continued to define and undermine the progress of this country like a sore that refuses to heal because it is covered up and untreated by the ignorance of the bearer.

Many of us who know that this country in its present structure is unworkable and believe in the principles of self determination are not igbos or from the east but could see why it happened and why we should sit down and talk across all tribes and tongues about how we should exist in an equitable, just manner. And if we cannot do that, just go our seperate ways.

There is nothing more patriotic than the call for equity and justice. This is why we support the Biafran agitation. What makes a nation is not just its name or its leader so forget the word Biafra, Ojukwu or Kanu for a minute. Nations are first people who should feel at home, at peace and in every way feel amongst. The Igbos today in Nigeria are clearly second class citizens and live like tenants in this country.

How can you expect a people to remain like that in silence forever. Why should a people of a country continually live in fear all the days of their lives in a country they call their own.

We need that Nigerian arrogance and that samba samba play. It's very anaemic right now and it looks like Nigeria will fail if they don't step up
They are booting long balls because the midfield is not linking with the attack. The only true attacking midfielder there is Iwobi. The duo of Mikel and Ndidi are defensive hence the frequent back passing and sideways shanks.

Rohr is trying to implement a system that is not traditional to Nigeria and the truth is that we have never excelled with a system not Nigerian. That was why the early years of Westerhof were not enterprising until he rerurned and improved on our traditional 442 wing play system. Nigerian teams just donot play well with lone strikers and an abundance of defensive midfielders. It doesn't work for us.
