plaetton:Don't mind them. Their oil is getting worthless by the day. They can't pay their civil servants because of population explosion and the idiots still have the guts to excuse capital flight and economic inportunity. Someone is raising genuine concerns and they are castigating him. Senseless folks. Tomorrow they will scream poverty. If only they knew just how much of the 41,000 naira or whatever per jersey goes to the American treasury. |
ZAWs:That is not what he is saying. He is saying exactly what Trump is saying about the steel industry in America. Every nation has a right to push back in its favour. Don't be a coward. If you don't produce stuff and hide under the cloak of 'better products come from elsewhere', you will simply starve. Where was China 30 years ago. They could have sat back and said, 'oh Europe makes better, cheaper stuff than us', but they didn't. They started asking the questions the senator is asking and today Nike produces in China even though China barely has a sporting industry and excels only in table tennis and swimming.... hardly enough to sell 10 million shirts. Pally, wake up. AND START ASKING YOUR GOVERNMENT WHAT IT IS DOING TO STOP THE ROT JUST AS THE REDNECKS IN MIDDLE AMERICA DEMANDED FROM THEIR POLITICIANS. !!!! |
Mr. Senator. Nike will not open production in Nigeria because of ten million shirts, the Super Eagles or World Cup 2018. Similarly, I don't think Aba has the structure or resources to offer the Eagles a competitive sponsorship deal, simple. However, good observation. What you need to do on Monday at the House is to move legislation to further de-incentify foreign consumption and simultaneously incentify local production, not just for the Nike/apparel industry but allied industries as well. What progressive governments around the world do in bringing their economies from third rate to developing is to promote industrialization by infrastructural development in tandem with entrepreneurial creations. Identify fledgling industrialists, vett them for policy, programs and potential and support them to become industrial giants. That is what Japan and Germany did after the second world war with Mitsubishi and co in Asia and Porsche, Volkswagen and Hugo Boss in Germany. That is what Korea did in the fifties with Daewoo and Samsung. That is what China started to do after the cultural revolution. That is what India started to do in the 90's with Mittal. Nations did not just fold their arms and let the people develop themselves under the cover of so called infrastructure. They actively worked hand in glove with business to develop the nation. With the exception of Dangote, why are other industrialists virtually at loggerheads with government continually. Why does government hate the private sector so much taking them as competitors and not companions in nation building. This is where Mr. Bruce should come in. He has experienced the challenges on entrepreneurship in Nigeria and should be best placed to break the ice. Today in America Trump is fighting tooth and nail for the American steel industry, staking his reputation and getting a lot of stick internationally for that. That is development. Our leaders on the other hand wil rather back foreign interests and castigate their own. Mr. Bruce, the issue is mental.... attitudinal and starts in the corridors of power where you guys reside. Just do the right thing. |
What qualifies this person to be a security man. Nigerians are as hopeless as the institutions they often criticise. If the police recruited this sort of person we will all be critical yet we feel no qualms entrusting them with our lives and go to bed. If this is the picture of your staff I'm afraid you're on death row. |
contigiency:It is noit about names |
Only when institutions are built and made to work can the fight be described as truly underway. Jail sentences are not an indicator that things are working. Both OBJ and even GEJ had people jailed during their tenures, still the system remains broken. |
We know that no public official from the President to the least Secretary steals. Only fools delude themselves. We are not bothered about that. Just let institutions work. That is the proof of any true change and proper sign that an administration fights corruption. Just let the system work. |
And to think some folks are asking over what period 31 million was incurred. Is that a question. How can ground rent amount to 31 million naira for private property. What kind of taxation is that. The people of Kaduna state should know that, if this is the taxation regime going on, they will be unable to live or exist in that state, the inflationary effects of such high taxation can only be imagined. Any taxation that is arbitrary and does not consider the base economic indices cannot and should not be accepted. This is nonsense. Even if it is a business premises, what kind of business can generate such revenues to support such taxation in a state such as Kaduna. Mark you the individual that owns the property pays personal income tax and the business in question will pay some sort of corporate tax. Look, people should rise and resist this nonsense. |
These folks were all in their youth when enthusiasm for excellence led them to venture. Remember this when you seek excuses for wallowing in mediocrity: They all faced the worst economic conditions known to mankind in the Great Depression and survived the Second World war shortly after, showing that a great idea and undiluted passion for success can survive any adversity and give a man a legacy to last forever. There is no short cut to success and no way on earth true success can be cut short. |
More worried about the emergency exit door being resealed properly and hope it will be checked thoroughly to avoid untimely failure. Many plane crashes have origins in strange circumstances. Let that importance of the technicalities not be lost in the drama. |
This is where you will say that the Atletico Madrid friendly was a collosal waste. Whatever test Rohr is doing here should have started far earlier. This team is not going to get enough match play before the world cup and as the team is, is highly unstable. I'm not impressed by the administration of the world cup preparations. |
Poor performance, poor conditions. No where near world cup standards.... just two and a half weeks out. |
dadark:The pitch is terrible. Even the CAF president was just staring at it after the intro. Why can't the government send pesky salary concerning civil servants there every Saturday to maintain it. Rivers is a proper tropical location that favours vegetation without much stress. |
Kelechi is slowly playing himself out of the team. Was a poor number 9, poor on the wings, poor number 10 today, what is the problem. Very disappointing. |

Missed the match, had to organse a management meeting. So tired, just woke, but I have a vweek offbfor R&R. Congrats Real Madrid, the greatest football team ever. Whatever happens after this, Ziddane has wrotten his name amongst the stars. 3 attempts, 3 trophies. Even a wishy washy, inconsistent Madrid is still leagues ahead. I told folks you simply could not compare a team who negotiated through PSG, Juventus and Bayern to one who knocked out Porto, City and Roma. One set were genuine Champions league contenders while the other lookef more like Europa league potentials. Fact, when you put hard money down. |
Rochas. Politics 101: All Politics Is Local (APIL)... so going to the Rock to appeal is vain. |
Arsenalholic:Smoking is prohibited on the touchlines by the FA. Carlo had to chew gum instead. |
Cable stay for a suspension bridge. You can see the pylons through the clouds. Nothing big here. The Federal government is responsible for the lack of engineering capacity in this country. Other nations developed though national tasking in their greatest time of developmental needs. We just pump oil or borrow money, give to Julius Berger, collect kick backs and leave indigenous capability to rot. If you aim to haul fifty bags of maize into your storehouse you can either choose to go the painful route of developing your muscles and stamina or the easier route of hiring men or machines to do it for you. It is a personal choice. Nigeria has chosen not to develop. That is why we call for restructuring. Today the Chinese are buildimg our rails and we hail it as a natiinal achievement. What is a rail line. Earthworks, culverts, bridges, gravel packing, steel sleepers and rails. What is so difficult in that if Ajaokuta is functional. We have iron ore, Dangote produces cement and we have hundreds of quarries spread over Nigeria. All we need are foununctional foundaries, but the system will not permit that. It is politically expedient to buy a rail system from China and sit back and laze off to get the credit. Wish Nigeria the best. |
I am just getting sick and tired of these things. Two reasons here. One. Why can't they remain and fight for the ideals they desire to project. Politics is always a game of numbers. Preach to the party faithfuls within your jurisdiction until they understand and appreciate your views and empower you via their votes. In developed democracies you find senators and other reps fighting for issues on behalf of their constituents over several years even decades within and against opposing political forces. Look at gun control in America. How many assembly men have quit and cross carpeted because of such a touchy issue but in Nigeria every small incident and these folks feel the only way to resolve issues is to move to an opposing camp. They simply cannot reform or change the fortunes of this country within by debate and ideas, just force, force, force. Nothing to offer. Secondly, they should realise that political office is tenured and the people in power who they oppose have a limited time in power and things can change very quickly when their terms eventually end. Look at the Republicans who opposed the nuclear pact with Iran. Though they opposed it during the time of Obama but they waited patiently till their man got into power and then trashed it. What is stopping these two senators from waiting till the 2019 electiins then opposing Rufai's election with strong point and evidences of misdeeds then when they or their principal gets into power invoke whatever policies they see right. What they are doing is quitting their responsibilities and their supporters and constituents should be incensed with them right now because they have simply devalued, demoted, weakened themselves and handed over the initiative to Rufai who must be rubbing his hands in glee. Doubtlessly they won't get re-elected again and that will be the end of any cause they had been fighting for. Pity. |
sleek82:That is an ix35 I think, essentially automatic in Nigeria and there is no way that vehicle will roll in park mode except the gear is severely damaged. Moreover it is near impossible the child could have depressed the brake to engage the gear. |
ben1daEbiri:Turned off the engine in neutral and obviously ignored the chorus from the selector. Now ask me what for. Was the house on fire, she forgot to turn off the oven, acute case of diarrhoea... volatile menses or accidental transfer of 20 million to the wrong account.... what na. Couldn't even close the bloody gate in wild, wild Lagos... ![]() |
Esseite:Without a solid ownership package tolling is just a waste of time. The money will end up in someone's pocket with the change (no pun intended) going to the bottomless pit called TSA. Not a dime will be spent on the road untill it fails again. This has been our experience for 30 years. What government should do is to comercialise the maintenace of roads then tolls will make sense. Float a series of Road Infrastructure PLC's with government having 50+1 percent shareholding to recover its investment. The rest shares owned by the public. There are another dozen revenue earning conduits apart from tolling including advertising, parking, service stations, A&A's, leisure and hotels to make it a highly profitable venture for the investing public. And what these folks don't realise is that road maintenance starts from the day the road is completed in order to guarantee its lifespan. Vegatation, waterlogging, erosion, fire, accidents and the spill of harzadous chemicals and even the humble bolt and nut dropped by a passing vehicle can have devastating effects to the integrity of the road if not handled immediately. Roads require round the clock care that only a dedicated, specialist and independent organisation can muster. In those days my thinking was that it was better for government to commission existing multinational construction firms to B&O (Build & Operate) as a means of reducing the cost of constructing these critical infrastructure and prolonging their lifespan but it doesn't seem to have worked for the second Niger bridge, then the debacle that was the Bi-Courtney developments (which I harshly criticised government for being anti-investment) and the history of the oil industry in Nigeria where you have multinationals flaring gas for decades without ever being able to convert these to energy for a deficient and dark country or refine the crude they pump for a gasoline dry economy. It appears that to involve construction companies in running highways will be akin to makimg them judge, jury and executioners in our case for decent infrastructure. |
Yet another low by this government and its fake anti corruption stance. Brazen corruption at the doorsteps of the international community. |
She is JOHESU, you are NMA, not surprised.... cat and mouse. |
The EFCC is opening his file this night. |
justtoodark:Yes, so that soldiers can continue their rape an sex slavery in IDP camps. This country and her future is bigger than any single government. Hopefully the next one will restore ome form of sanity and reconstruct our collective, battered humanity. |
APC getting a bad rap lately. Chaos everywhere. Any other party gains a moral high ground with the brigandage and impunity going on. |
debbie:Good morning. Unfortunately in the evening of this administration, it continues. |
Part of the communication gadgets. Its called a microwave deflector.... required to minimise interference from cellphones. |
That is why I have no respect for anything on any person's body and have no respect for people who cannot see beyond that. We rise and fall based on what our minds can imagine and what our hearts can receive. Pity. |
