Politics › Re: Restructuring: Politicians Gather In Awka To Discuss The Future Of Nigeria (Pic) by Reference(m): 4:46pm On May 21, 2018
gidgiddy:
They have been talking about restructuring Nigeria since Aburi in 1967 and have not come up with one single plan a out how they will restructure Nigeria.

The have had 8badan summit, Enugu summit , and now, Awka summit.

Yet not one of them can tell anyone how they will make the core North accept restructuring which they have long rejected.

They will hold this meeting, send out a communique about the need for restructuring and that will be that until the next summit

This meeting is a complete waste of time.
It is not. It creates awareness because when the next push back comes folks who support restructuring will play the tape again for the doubters to hear. Sometimes it takes more than a matchstick or two to start a fire. Definitely there will be some present here who will have scoffed at the reasons for restructuring a year, two years, perhaps five years ago but the tragedies of Nigeria overtime will have persuaded them. No one can doubt that the critical mass is building. Just one more tragedy....

What I'm saying is, he didn't have to show off luxury, rather, he took his kids to the farm.

These are the kind of people who deserve wealth
They deserve achievement, satisfaction and peace. Not everything or everyone amounts to materialism. I personally don't care and I hope Mr. Abba Kyari does not as well.

After PDP members and supporters will open their mouth and start saying rubbish like who has the government jailed for corruption since PMB assumed office. Mean while one of their one has been delaying the wheel of justice by faking been sick since 2015 any time he appears in court but the moment he leaves the court premises he becomes strong. Metuh attended the burial of Ekwueme on Friday and on monday he was to appear in court he came on wheel chair. Metuh was fully involved and participated in PDP convention on Saturday then on Tuesday he was to appear in court again he came with stretcher. Metuh was seen in a function last week but today Monday he fell down in court. Like Metuh like Dino, Dino has been busy in social media tweeting and snapping pictures ever since his case in court has been postponed to further notice but any day he'll have a date in court Dino will fend illness and be brought to court motionless on a stretcher. Coward Dino! Coward Olisah Metuh! Oya PDP come and defend your looters.
There is no use hyperventilating about this. The PDP is not in charge of the Judiciary, neither is the APC, I hope. This is an institutional inquest and challenge and they should handle it with the same precedence as occurs in developed societies within our laws. That is the courts appoint a physician to assess his fitness to stand trial and if he is not he be treated at state expense till he is fit enough. The Executive through the prosecution has done its job and cannot be accused of not 'fighting' corruption in this case. It is now up to the Judiciary to walk the last mile on this case. It is no longer a political matter.

Church is for the converted. The willing.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17).

U cannot claim to be a Christian if people cannot ''behold'' the difference between you and an unbeliever on the street.

Peace out
That is the paradox of Christianity, the chalkenge that makes it a mystery to the world. On the one hand you are right, the church and believers should be protected from corruptive tendencies in general. The sheep must be protected from the wolves but you are wrong as well because the factory cannot accuse lemons for coming in to be turned to lemonade. The church is also in the business of turning sinners to saints so how can it set set standards of righteousness at the point on entry. They rejected a man whom God may have sent their way.

I see another Tinapa.

Why pour resources into rice, a crop the country has no comparative advantage.

The international price of 5% parboiled rice is $460/ton CIF ASWP or $23 a bag.or 8,400 per bag when it lands in Apapa.

Add N1,000 importers profit, add N1,000 wholesalers profit, add N1,000 retailers profit, add N1,000 transport which is an extra N4,000 and you have 8,400 + 4,000= 12,400 selling price a 50kg bag to the consumer.

However, the other day 25kg Nigerian produced rice was marketed at N9,999 a bag which will make a 50kg cost 20,000.

20,000 is a long way from 12,400.

Even if you add 20% import duty, you'll have 15,000 a bag.

The only reason why the country is producing rice is because of sky high.import duties of 70%.

Were a rational government to reduce the tariffs today, rice production will collapse.
And why would any sane government reduce tariffs just to cause a wasteful run on scarce foreign exchange for a consumer item. The high tariff is to cushion the effects of the foreign exchange loss. Also the fact that Nigerian rice is not presently competitive means we need more investment not less. Thailand and others did not get there today. We can be producers as well if we can make the sacrifices now. Let the present high prices be the attraction for the necessary investment and production.

By the way, the rice plant in Cross-River Ayade is talking about has been under construction for a coupke of years now and may be at the completion stage. I cannot understand how a Nigerian can wish for thd collapse of local production in favour of imports. Are you a foreigner or what. That is very unpatriotic.

White007:
This article was written by Femi Adesina the current Spokesperson to President Buhari in 2012 after the demise of Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Hmmmmm...... Plz read;

THE ABURI ACCORD THAT WOULD HAVE SAVED NIGERIA FROM ALL HER PROBLEMS...( but aborted by the Fulani Oligarchy)

By FEMI ADESINA( current spokesperson to President Buhari)
In December 2009, I was at Aburi, while holidaying in Ghana. We Nigerians call it A-b-u-r-i, but the Ghanaians pronounce it as E-b-r-i. For those who have read widely about the civil war that we fought between 1967 and 1970,

Aburi is a significant place. This was what I wrote about Aburi, after returning from that journey:

“Aburi. Beautiful, serene Aburi, set daintily atop a hill. It is home to a botanical garden that is 119 years old. But for us in Nigeria, Aburi goes beyond just nature and its preservation.

It is the town where General Yakubu Gowon and Odumegwu Ojukwu met, to try and avert the Nigerian Civil War that lasted between 1967 and 1970. They came out with Aburi Accord, which later broke down. And a shooting war started.

You could see the Presidential Lodge on a hill, where the Nigerian leaders had parleyed at the behest of Ghanaian leaders. It all ended in futility.”

As one of the key parties to the Aburi Accord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, returns to mother earth today, it is also apposite to return to Aburi, and look at the letter and the spirit of the accord once again, an agreement that was violated by the Federal side, and which made a bloody internecine war inevitable.
For most part of 1966, the northern part of Nigeria, particularly, had been turned to killing fields.

Non-natives, especially Igbos, were killed in thousands. Many fled, many others were displaced. There was complete anarchy in the land. The average Igbo looked up to Lt. Col Odumegwu Ojukwu, military governor of the Eastern Region, to provide leadership and direction. He did not fail. He picked the gauntlet and championed the cause of his people.

By January 1967, the drums of war were loud and clear, reverberating across the length and breadth of Nigeria. But there was a last ditch effort to prevent what was imminent. There was a peace meeting hosted at Aburi, in Ghana, by the then Ghanaian head of state, Gen J. A. Ankrah.

At the meeting were Gowon, Ojukwu, all the military governors of the regions, and some top civil servants, both from the Federal side and the Eastern region. The meeting held on January 4 and 5, 1967, and came out with what is popularly known today as the Aburi Accord.

The agenda of the meeting consisted of three crucial issues: (i) Reorganization of the Armed Forces (ii) Constitutional agreement (iii) Issues of displaced persons within Nigeria.

The two-day meeting reached consensus that were acceptable to both sides. Among others, it was resolved that legislative and executive authority of the Federal Military Government was to remain in the Supreme Military Council (SMC), to which any decision affecting the whole country shall be referred for determination provided it is possible for a meeting to be held, and the matter requiring determination must be referred to military governors for their comment and concurrence. What does this mean in simple language?

The SMC would run the affairs of the country, but not without consulting the regions as represented by the military governors. This was something akin to federalism, even under a military government.

Other terms of the agreement include that appointments to senior ranks in the police, diplomatic and consular services as well as appointment to superscale posts in the federal civil service and the equivalent posts in the statutory corporations must be approved by the SMC. What does this mean again in simple language? Equity, fairness, true federalism.

Other matters like the holding of an ad hoc constitutional conference, fate of soldiers involved in the January 15, 1966 coup, rehabilitation of displaced persons, etc, were also amicably resolved, and the conferees returned happily to Nigeria. Only for the Federal side to deliver a blow to the solar plexus: the Aburi Accord, Gowon said, was unworkable, and he reneged on all the agreements.

Using the Eastern Nigerian Broadcasting Service, Ojukwu played the tape recording of the proceedings at Aburi repeatedly, to educate the populace on who was playing Judas. Later, he made a broadcast in which he said: “we in the East are anxious to see that our differences are resolved by peaceful means and that Nigeria is preserved as a unit, but it is doubtful, and the world must judge whether Lt. Col Gowon’s attitudes and other exhibitions of his insincerity are something which can lead to a return of normalcy and confidence in the country.

“I must warn all Easterners once again to remain vigilant. The East will never be intimidated, nor will she acquiesce to any form of dictation. It is not our intention to play the aggressor. Nonetheless, it is not our intention to be slaughtered in our beds. We are ready to defend our homeland.”

In a piece I did last December, shortly after Ojukwu passed away, I said he was virtually pushed into war by the infidelity of the Federal side to the Aburi Accord. I still stand by that position. Ojukwu was called ‘warlord’ for many decades, but he was by no means a warmonger. He only did what he needed to do for his people–and for the country.

As his earthly remains are interred today, it is tragic that Nigeria is still submerged in the morass that Ojukwu already identified about 45 years ago. Today, bombs go off like firecrackers in the country. There is agitation for the review of the revenue allocation formula.

There are strident calls for the convocation of a sovereign national conference. Even some component parts are threatening to pull out of the federation if anything happened to their ‘son’ who is now in power. Didn’t Ojukwu warn of these landmines ahead? Were all these issues not already settled at Aburi?

Foremost journalist and media administrator, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, in a recent media interview, explained the Aburi Accord this way: “Let every region be semi-autonomous and develop at its own level.” Yes, that was the spirit and letter of Aburi, but which sadly became a road not taken.

And is that not why we are still suffering today, living in a rickety and decrepit country that can burst at the seams any moment? I tell you, Ojukwu was a prophet, and like most prophets, he had no honour in his own country. Pity. But whether we like it or not, there’s no way we won’t return to Aburi. Willy-nilly. I only hope it will be sooner than later, before Nigeria goes to grief. On Aburi I stand.

Federal Government was perfidious and duplicitous on Aburi. It is still the same way today. That is why as Nigerians, we are most times disillusioned, dismayed, dispirited, dejected and depressed. When will change come to this land? Our hearts are getting weary.

Last December, I wrote that Ojukwu should be buried like a hero. I’m glad at the rites of passage so far, culminating in the interment today. Yes, bury him like a true hero. An icon, an avatar, deserves no less. This generation will surely not see another like Ojukwu. He fought not only for his own people, but for a true federation founded on justice, fair play, equity and rectitude. Unfortunately, he did not see the Nigeria of his dreams. Will we? Adieu the Ikemba, the Eze Igbo Gburugburu. May your soul rest in peace. Ka nkpur’obi gi zue ike n’adukwa.

Then he went to work for the owners of Nigeria and lost his conscience.... exchanging his humanity for a plate of porridge. Nigeria can never develop. Ikemba was simply asking for what we call restructuring today. Still resisted by the status quo while Gowon's village lies in the cross hairs of all manner of violence and the clandestine expansionist ambitions of socio-religious mauraders. I pity Gowon. An old man full of regrets he cannot express, rather wishing death before the inevitable ignominy to come.

My dad wept when he saw side by side images of Gowon's wedding complete with a towering cake side by side with hundreds of dusty, naked, starving and dying children, courtesy of the BBC. He was too ashamed to go to work the following day in London, couldn't face his colleagues as a proud black man from a great nation. Today, 50 years after, the nation remains in constant tension, sporadic violence and body count akin to civil war status persists. No progress has been made. It appers the ink on the Aburi accord all these decades has stubbornly refused to dry.

This is bad, really bad. APC delaminating all over its structure. This should not have been allowed to happen as it weakens democracy. I believe development is better by consensus within parties rather than by the threats of destructive splits. Because when you continually reboot the political landscape the instability does not make for genuine progress. Starting at the top, Mr President who is the top leader should know that in democracy it is 'give and take'. He will not be all he wanted to be, he will not have all he wanted to have and he will not achieve all he intended to achieve. All democrats must be prepared to sacrifice self for the wider, general good. It appears the APC has not learnt anything from the past political failures of the PDP.

That is why I personally view the Obasanjo led SDP as a detriment to the development of our democracy and the various serial cross carpeters in the likes of Atiku and co. After 20 years of democracy its time a proper structure emerges and people should begin fighting for the system rather for themselves, fighting for principles, ideologies rather than the primitive acquisition of power for power sake.

Of course. Why not. They have no work, no tasking, no targets, no objectives and no program related time constrained urgency.

And why, because the people who vote them in and support them in power have no requirements, no demands, no expectations. The dividend of their mandate is open, vague and depends on the benevolence of the 'electee'. Like employing a worker and giving him no task. Why won't he come to work whenever he likes.

If the manager of a company cannot pay his workers regularly and owes them months on end, what will happen to the company if the said manager takes a month's wanton holiday.

Don't worry. The next governor after Bello will not even pay salaries at all. He will ask workers to go and meet Bello in his village..or the governor plans to rule Kogi forever abi.

People are voted out for failure and voted in for hope and expected performance. If he cannot deliver and find a lasting and permanent solution he should not bother to recontest next year. Politics must evolve beyond rhetoric. What we need going forward are solution providers not excuse renderers.

That is the society we ignorantly build for ourselves. In sane societies the police boss in Lagos will be appointed or elected by Lagosians, and accountable to them but the owners of Nigeria in their quest to control the citizens of the country through the apparatus of state resist this by all means. So instead of playing politics 24/7, Nigerians should demand to take charge of their lives.
