A lot of folks here are saying that US fears N Korea. I laugh in Greek. It is a well know fact that N Korea has nuclear bombs. What people don't know is that using any of those bombs on S Korea or US is SUICIDAL. North Korea can only test bombs but they dare not use it, otherwise, their country would cease to exist.
Depending on the sitting American president, the US may not do anything. See what happened in Ukraine, in Syria, in Turkey. The US tactically stepped aside and they will do so in Korea if China and Russia get involved.

Why stop now? Nigerians have been lying to themselves since independence. "Nigeria will be great AGAIN". That in itself is a fat lie. When was Nigeria ever great? "The giant of Africa" How exactly is she a giant? Another lie; 'Nigeria is are not a corrupt nation'. Unless you have been living under a rock, then you must know this is a fallacy. The President gave a truthful and genuine opinion on the obvious perception of how the outside world sees the country and he was crucified for it. Nigerians don't like the truth. They feel better when given a fabricated version of it.
Once again. Nigerians did not vote him to tell them who they are, truthfully or lie to them. They put him there 'to do' and not 'to say'. That is the yardstick they choose to measure him now. Promised change. Their pastors and Imams do the holiness heads-up stuff week in, week out.

The reality of politics is that all governments lose popularity over time. It is a given in multi-party democracy. Election and ascension to power is like an account to be cashed. What you want to do is to make sure your withdrawals are invested, not wasted. And that your first expense is a hit to stave off rapid devaluation.

This government is going through, burning good will too fast without political investments on ground. If I'm not mistaken the only hard, progressive and conclusive achievement of significance is the removal of fuel subsidy and even this was easy due to the low crude prices (what will happen when they rise again). The most important and key issue, restructuring the country is not in view.

It all leads me to conclude now as I did as soon as Buhari emerged presidential flag bearer, that he represents the establishment, he will maintain the status quo and few real reforms will take place during his time and at best changes will be cosmetic. Since then I have not seen otherwise.

The best days of the APC are over. Not just because of what they do or don't but it is the nature of things. Just that they are not helping.

Those are the kinds of places where government should be putting its resources. If you're paying subsidy for fuel, power or dollars these are the industries to heip, not fat a.r.se, lazy importers of useless goods.

Get the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Finance, Labour and Productivity to pay a visit saying, Mr. Innoson, what is your current production and how can we help you quadruple it in the next 5 years. How can we help you triple your workforce, diversify your products, export your goods...do you need tax breaks, state tax subsidies, power subsidies, fuel subsidies, etc. We will review them in 12 months by way of productivity, simple....

Instead it is the mami-market in one barrack somewhere that gets 24-hrs power at no cost, Dubai landlords that get all the CBN dollars, some asian mafia that imports shiploads of rice at no duty and a so-called multi-national that doesn't know the country collects taxes.

I totally concur with you analysis. However you should see from my own perspective that corruption is Nigeria biggest challenge, fine we have all what it takes to be a big nation,we have the human resources and the resources itself, but still most Nigerians are still lingering in abject poverty.

Believe you me my dear friend,if you are to contest election in your household for a post juicy or not,and you don't give something to your kids, the possibility that you will loose the election in favor of your wife who is ready to give something to your kids is very high, corruption is in Nigeria as become a culture to both the rich and the poor.

Thanks for apologizing after your comment,it is very mature of you.
I like and totally appreciate mature reasoning and the quest for understanding debates generate. Your view is true but that is not governance, that is politics. It ends at the polls. When you are sworn in you've got to start cashing in on the goodwill to do what is right, not perpetuate what is wrong. The quest for popularity after elections is wrong.

Buhari should take the tough road to restructuring Nigeria, instilling equity and justice, changing the socio-economic scape, diversifying the economy. Granted these are harder to do than 'corruption wars' but these are legacy projects to last far beyond his tenure. I'm afraid the way things are going he will have no legacy and the only hope he has of preventing a total washout of his presidency is oil price rises.

Why can't he set us on the path of economic emancipation. Why.

I no fit talk again. People say that 9months is too short for Buhari to effect change. So who should we hold responsible for the rapid fall of Naira ?
Blame the critical mass of Nigerians. If they demand the right thing Buhari cannot do otherwise but as it is he panders to the people and the establishment which is not good leadership. Not what Cameron or Obama did. Leadership is doing the rightful, hurtful thing but soothing the pain of the people by interaction and good governance. This government rather does not want us to go through the pain of circumcision so we face the awful future with little prospects. This president wants us stuck to the status quo.

When a government tries to fight corruption,it surely will fight back very hard, and that is what is happening, the rich have stocked their accounts with millions of dollars, and the central bank of Nigeria restriction is killing them because most of their monies are trapped in the Nigeria bank, with the introduction of the cbn policies regarding foreign currencies. The introduction of the BVN by the central bank is a very good step, because all the accounts with millions of foreign currencies is being monitored.
In addition, as things are unfolding, we should not be surprise to see people being questioned and scrutinized to the later on how they make their so called millions in dollars, euros and pounds.

It will be tough at first but later the Naira will gain its strength when these so called rich thieves are dealt with...What pains me so much is that, it is the poor that surfers the most,is not that the rich don't surfer but the poor swallow all the pills.

Corruption is a rot in the economy,it has gotten to the stage where drastic measure is highly needed. If corruption is gone for good, Nigeria will be one of the best nations in the world.
You are so ignorant (pardon the honour at this critical juncture) but if you think wealth is what your account reads and poverty is what thieves stole last night, you need it.

Nigeria is broke and vulnerable simply because we are not a productive nation, simple. Steal all you want from a productive person and you will never degrade him to poverty. Give all you want to a lazy bu.t.t and set your stop clock. Stop buying excuses from ignorant folks. Even if one penny is not stolen from government till 2019 (impossible) it will not balance the budget, diversify the economy or liberate us from the yoke of big oil.

'If you love stuff and cannot work them out...', my mother, (God bless her soul) saying to me 25 years ago, '....you are bound to suffer and if you cannot do it, you will pay for getting it done.'.

We are paying heavily in Nigeria for doing little and loving much. Not government, we the people.

Funny how people seem to attribute the fall of the Naira to the current administration despite all revelations showing the unchecked dollarization of the electoral process by the past government.

People seem to have forgotten how the foreign reserve dropped drastically under the past government as well as the importance of the foreign reserve to keeping the sanity of the local currency against their counterpart currencies round the world especially in an economy that thrives solely on imports.

Agreed that PMB and Yemi Osinbajo promised equating the dollar to the naira .....its usually the case when you're not in the system to know the factors. For example in the past regime's handover note, I would believe there was no revelation of how the phantom BDCs were emerging daily in their thousands seeking for new licences, in the note. I also believe the president did not know of this until he was told by the CBN governor.

In essence, we should not expect the mess created over the years to be rectified in less than one year of attaining the position ...haba! Lets all be patient and let 4years lapse before judging.

Note I'm apoliticial here!
The policy of artificially supporting the naira by market manipulation is a flawed one no amount of time can solve. An economy of this size, complexity and global connectivity cannot afford financial isolation. China is currently defending her currency with 100 billion a month out of cash reserves of 5 trillion. Even it has been told to stop wasting its time. Who then is Nigeria. The only way to halt wanton imports and start local patronage and industry is to devalue. You will no doubt suffer massive inflation but like Mexico you will begin the long road to industrialization. This model is what brought us here and what will keep us an underdeveloped, mono-product, poverty stricken economy in perpetuity.

The investigation is still going on and that is why I pity people who are already passing their judgements because they read one-sided story from biased husband's family and friends who probably did not like her as a wife.
We were told that the husband was a business man who just returned home for some real estate deals.

After the first fight with his wife, some people who hated him or probably his business partners or people who felt cheated may capitalise on the misunderstanding with the wife to commit the crime because nobody will suspect any other person apart from the wife.

I know Yewande very well, (at least for the five years we were together in the University), she is quiet, and non violent young lady. For me, I will wait until I hear her side of the story. She has pleaded not guilty in court, remanded in prison custody and matter adjourned to sometimes this month but people should be careful because we are not there when it happened. (Somebody even ridiculously said that the mother died when she heard about the murder).

Guys,

Please stop getting excited over a false report. I repeat this report is false.

The Cardiac & Renal Centre is probably the best medical facility in Nigeria today.

It started up in phases, with the renal & dialysis unit starting first. Today, they are the largest functioning dialysis facility in the country.

The ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is the best & only one of the few functioning ICUs in Nigeria today.

The Cath lab (for open heart surgery) is the last phase of the project. It is the only standard cath lab in West Africa (There is a mobile one in Ghana). It has not packed up, it has never been used. Due to the complexity of the equipment and specialist knowledge of the clinical personnel required, it was meant to be the last phase to pick up.

I know this because I provided financial advisory services to the Centre. I have dealt with Mr. Osewa, & he knows I am not a phantom.

As a matter of fact, Seun can nominate two people, & I can take them to the Centre at any time to verify that this report is trash.
Better get yourself a good lawyer. You and your gang are done. The opposition and press will eat you guys alive.

chivic:
Most Nigerians will agree with me that among the current ministers,Fashola is one that that stands out and with him in this current cabinet, a lot of us have great optimism that at least he will deliver.
In fact, Buhari's exclusive trust and believe in him made him to attach a combination of portfolios to him, believing that once he can deliver, then his administration would receive a lot of applause. It is worth mentioning that Fashola's success can earn Buhari a return ticket.

However, the recent increase in electricity tariff is not only shocking, but heart rending.
What went wrong?who advice him?who has brainwashed our guy? is there something at the presidency that makes people with good intention to begin to think upside down? Would Fashola in his smart reasoning ability have taken this, if it has been proposed in the last administration?does it make sense at all?
How on earth will the government increase Tariff for no light?are we not already paying more than what we get?Why don't the tell us that once we start receiving light on an average of 12 hours per day, then the Tariff of that area, region or Zone will be increased.?

Something has gone wrong! If even Fashola can confidently think like this, then we need an emergency prayer.

They should deliver service first before increasing Tariff. We are currently paying more than we are getting. And yet they are forcing us to pay more again for a futuristic promise. We need to occupy Nigeria for this.
Forget that thing. Fashola is looking beyond your pocket at the big picture. Do you want electricity, he is there to bring you to equity between you and those who are selling. That is government's responsibility. Not elected or appointed to stroke your fantasy of freebies, the kind of lifestyle that landed us here in the first place. Nothing wrong with him and he will get the results at the end of the day. Energy is very expensive to invest in and run, margins are tight and risks are high so few institutions touch it. We must be ready to make serious sacrifices if we are to ever tame the energy monster.

What I suggest Nigerians do is to increase the value of the power they have or can afford. Just like fuel and a taxi driver. It is not how much fuel you have but how much money you can make out of the fuel you have. What is the economic cost versus gain of the electricity you have. If one hour of power a month cost me N5000, I must make N5000+ within that period of 1 hour. Think like that and watch your bills fall. Most Nigerians don't.

If anyone should talk about economic policies and the decline of the Naira it shouldn't be Sanusi. He still remains one of the worst economic policy makers in the history of Nigeria. I can't believe he's talking about devaluing the Naira. In the developed nations when currencies are devalued, it is to encourage exports, because the prices of local products serve as an incentive and a toast for foreign buyers. In the process, they earn foreign exchange, increase production and create additional jobs. Unfortunately, that is not the position with Nigeria. Oil is our major export and with the price of oil so low there are more supplies than demand. Can someone tell me how devaluation at this crucial stage will yield any positive effect for Nigeria? Unless we anticipate rise in oil prices and Saudi Arabia, Iran and Russia decreasing oil production huh huh huh
Oga. Stop this nonsense. Devaluation is not just about exports. It is also about investment. If your currency is artificially supported investors hold their dollar investments and the disaster unfolding in the oil industry is one to watch. You need investment to maintain production and maintain installations. Expect our oil output to gradually fall together with our market share and influence to such an extent we will find hard to recover when oil prices rebound. It is a silly, sentimental policy with no long term benefit.
