AgricultureRe: 1 Plot Pepper Farm For A Start by REUBEN010(m): 2:18pm On Sep 14, 2021
sessypgm:
Please can one still plant pepper now from nursery this September?
In my opinion, NO!

This is because Northeners will soon flood the market with their peppers, tomatoes and many other veggies. An increase in supply will definitely crash the price. If you have solid irrigation plans, I'll suggest you suspend it until December so that you can hit the market when their crops are already spent. By May - September peak pricing, your crops should be at the peak of their production and this translates to more harvests, more premium sales and less market risk.

THIS IS NOT A FINANCIAL ADVICE.
JUST AN OPINION.
AgricultureRe: My Cucumber Farm Dairy by REUBEN010(m):

Please help, i have secured a large plot of land that might be as big as 20 plots when measured but my problem is how to irrigate it, it doesn't belong to me so drilling of a well or borehole might not be allowed by the owner so the next option would be to buy water from neighbors with borehole and transfer it by pipe to a plastic water tank or tanks on site, i would like to start with one crop and one plot at a time and gradually turn the entire plot to a full time vegetable garden, so how best should i approach the irrigation problem? What size of tank should i buy giving my current and future plans? Any other advice would be appreciated?
Although it is tempting to believe that you can cultivate even a plot of Cukes with water from a neighbor's domestic borehole but I'll suggest you shelve that plan to avoid stories that touch the kidneys and lungs.

What will happen at the middle of cultivation should the sumo or generator develop issues? What if the neighbor travels for some days without informing you?

Your cost of pumping water may surpass even your total projected revenue.

If the land is located at the Southern part of the country, I'll suggest you dedicate 75% of the land area to drought tolerant crops (eg cassava or potatoes) and 25% to watermelon at moderate spacing to hasten the formation of live mulch that will reduce soil evaporation.
The cassava/potatoes will serve as a buffer should the watermelon fail so that you are not left empty.

Cucumber is too risky to attempt without solid irrigation plan.

pls what is the best way to make ridge for driptape on a downward slope land.
is the best option along the slope or across the slope
Across the slope is better for proper land management. Imagine run-off water from rain causing erosion and washing off some of your ridges, irrigation set-up and/or crops if done along the slope.

AgricultureRe: Benue Farmers 2021 Farming Season Let's Meet Up by REUBEN010(m): 12:32pm On Mar 02, 2021

Basically, yam can roughly be classified into early and late maturing.
The early maturing ones can be ready for harvest as early as June, then you cut the new tubers and careful remove without much damage to the feeder root. These will still produce yam seed which is best for planting.
Late maturing ones can only be harvested from September/October.
The early maturing ones don't keep long and are softer. They can be stored up till May/June or even July the following year. But don't take this as a rule of thumb. There are a lot of exceptions and that's where experience comes handy. Always ask questions from experienced farmers in your area.
For the yams to be harvested during the months you mentioned above, when will they be planted?

I plant many varieties. Soft, hard, white to yellowish (don't confuse with yellow yam), smooth to rough, long and thin to round just name it.
Name varies from place to place.

In my place, there's one we call gambari. It's hot cake in the market as buyers come from the north to buy at good price.
The only downside is that it doesn't keep too long.

I think you should speak to the local farmers in your area. Their knowledge is invaluable for a starter.

Always welcome.
Thanks.
Please which State did you cultivate your yams?

Hello fellow Agriclanders,
A new planting season is here. Farmers are getting busy with land preparation in readiness for the rains.
There are many factors that inform the choice of crop selected for cultivation. As for me, I have chosen yam, cassava, pepper and watermelon for cultivation.
Of all the 4 crops mentioned above, this is my first time venturing into commercial yam production. Please I'll need all the assistance I can get on how to source for quality and affordable Benue or Abuja seedyams for planting. Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

AgricultureRe: How Safe Is Your Farm From Herdsmen Activities? by REUBEN010(m): 9:09pm On Mar 01, 2021
My farm location here in Ogun State is somewhat safe from herdsmen wahala. The few cattles around are owned by farm owners with well-behaved herdsmen managing them.

What do you do when about 15% of your portfolio is gone and it is still going down
Although I'm also a newbie like you but one of the things I've learnt from our tutors here is that there's bound to be a correction at one time or another. This serves as a regulator that flushes out overleveraged traders in the margin market. Also, a pump and dump may be happening or about to happen with one of the currencies, hence massive transfer of funds to the chosen currency by big whales.
FUD won't do you much good because you end up loosing a considerable part of your portfolio with your every withdrawal into Fiat as a result of lack of emotional control. Try to keep your emotions in check else, you may blow up your portfolio.

But your right still... I have been sleeping on Doge.. Not really feel the coyn...

The thing is at moment now i have switched from swing trading to long term investment... So before i invest in a coyn.. I must have done enough research before i invest.. So even when there's a dip am not worried cause i know the coyn isn't a sh**y one and has a bright future..

Doge isn't too stable yet for me...Lots controversies around which could be good and bad...
I've learnt the hard way and also trading long. I don't have enough tears to shed on swing trade.
