Feexo: House, check out what I got from a school in Texas:

All candidates MUST submit:

1. Original transcripts, test scores, and other requested academic information DIRECTLY from the institution attended or testing agency. No scanned or hand delivered transcripts or scores can be accepted.
2. All accepted candidates MUST first submit a bank draft or direct wire sum of $7,300 BEFORE an I-20 can be issued. This sum represents APPROXIMATELY two semesters of tuition and must be on deposit with the university.
3. All accepted candidates must submit a bank statement showing $17,284 for 12 months of tuition and cost of living.

Should I just look for another school to make the number of schools am looking at 4 again or what?
Please 4get about this school oooo. Write em off your list. It is not advisable to apply to schools that require tuition deposit before i-20 is issued because US student Visa is NOT guaranteed.

Don't bother mailing em to ask for a waiver because they won't listen to you because it is already the university's policy not to issue any i-20 unless tuition deposit is made. So no one can change that.

It is even a good thing you found out about this early enough so you won't have to waste more time and money on this school and later discover this news at the veryy last minute..

So move on to another school. Find another good school that don't require tuition deposit before i-20s are issued.

Cheers..

Amefrica: Hi fam!
Does anyone know any cheap hotel near the US Embassy (Lagos) ?
See when I went for my Visa interview, I passed the night in a cheap hotel at Obalende/CMS. If you are looking for cheap hotels, don't look for hotels at Victoria Island ooooo. Unless say ur papa na Bill gates. Lol..

I can't actually remember the name of the hotel at Obalende/CMS. But it was veryy cheap. I paid #2,500 for one night.

And the next day, I woke up around 4:30am, did my Visa Interview Reharsals with my bro and I was set to go to the US Embassy at 5:00am.

I walked just a 10 minutes distance from the hotel to CMS Bus-stop and I took a Bus from CMS going to Eko/Bar-beach hotel and I dropped at Check-point Bus stop.

I paid just #100 for the bus fare to check-point Bus-stop.

And I got to the Embassy within 30 minutes.

Babs911: I know its a big issue have got myself involved now so wat did u suggest i can do? can i request my sku to re-issue another admission letter and I-20 so dat i will use courier to pick it for me? pls advice.
Exactly bro... I was about suggesting that to you as well..

Please switch to Plan B. Contact your school. And tell em you want em to issue another i-20 for you because you have not received the innitial one they sent and your Visa interview date is veryy close..

So when they agree to issue you another i-20, tell them you want to use TNT courier pick-up service here in Nigeria so that they will come down to the University and pick it up and you get the i-20 package here within 4 working days...

Please Contact them first. And keep me posted and let me know their response. So I will let you know how you go about it.. Send me a PM for effective communication..

Success bro..

6 schools is Okay. You will have better chances of securing funding from your school.

Even if you want to apply to 30 schools. grin No problem about that.. Go ahead. As long as say your money dey on ground.. Lol.

BannyE: What's is the implications of applying in schools that does not require GRE?
No implication for admissions to schools.. But you will face the REAL implication at the embassy.. Lol..

Your two eye balls go open wide when you go hear ; Sorry your visa cannot be approved at this moment please Re-apply"

So if you like yourself, Do the right thing. Take atleast one standarlized test for the sake of the embassy....

Success bro..

BannyE: I have a TOEFL score of 61 for internet base test. I know is very poor. What if am able to get admission with it from schools that accept low TOEFL score but have to undergo additional English Language Class when I resumehuh My question is, will the Embassy deny my visa application because of my low TOEFL score??

What is your take on this?
Are you going for undergrad OR masters?

imperiouxx: Only those who are stubborn won't hear the first call. You've been told since yesterday to cancel that appointment if possible and look for a more convenient date as many other dates would pop up, but you're still confused.

If you cancel that Oct 3, you may or may not see any other one within the 30 days (but most likely, more dates will soon open). The most important is your readiness not even getting date. What's the outcome of interview without preparation?
God Bless you and your papa for this.... On point...

Babs911: I appreciate ur piece of advice and I really agreed with you but my fear is that d date I need to resume to sku on my I-20 is 1st of October if it passess then before I go for my interview won't that be an issue d VO will lament on? Pls advice.
See, you are the cause of this your problem now.. Why didn't you use a courier service like FedEx, DHL OR TNT courier plus to receive your i-20 package..

There is one thing you guys need to know is, Nothing good comes easy.. No short-cut to success.. People who traveled to the US spent a whole alot of money..

Even me that have gotten my visa, and I have no deadline to meet for embassy appointment, I intend using TNT courier plus to pick up my NEW i-20 package for the spring 2014 semester to avoid this risk of Nipost you guys are facing now..

So if someone like me who doesn't even have any deadline to meet, makes use of a courier service to receive a VITAL document, then why can't you guys who have deadlines to meet do the same as well..
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by RickyRozay:
bigfrancis21: Receiving mails from US using USPS-NIPOST really does take time. At least 5 weeks. My original admission letter from UMD mailed out in the last week of June through USPS-NIPOST I'm still yet to receive it. And this is September. Had to make do with the copy sent to me via email. My other admission letter from Alabama took 2 months to arrive. Well, In your case you still have like more 3 weeks to go before your interview date.

Listen, take my advice. I'd suggest you reschedule your interview date to October middle or ending. By then you should have gathered together all necessary documents, received your I20, and prepared body soul and mind for the interview. I remember you complaining in another post about not being ready yet. No need rushing to the embassy half-prepared only to hear that weakening 'I'm sorry your visa application does not qualify at this time...' statement, caused by inadequate preparation.
God bless you my brother.. You are so right on point!!! I just pray he will listen because I have been telling him since not to be in a hurry..

@Amefrica, do as Bigfrancis said, re-schedule your appointment to Ending of October to allow enough time for your Visa preparation..DON'T go to the embassy without FULL preparation.

You can see what bigfrancis said about Nipost.. He has nt even received his admission letter which was sent to him by his school since June. And it is 3 months now his admission letter was sent..

I will advice you, if u still intend going for the early October date you already picked which I don't Recommend, because that date you picked is too early for you to get all this things done.

You are not a Robot. This thing takes time.. So no need to rush.. Remember slow and steady wins the race. And morever you still have much time on your side because your school resumes on the 13th of January 2014.. So no need to get ya head all worked up..

Go and use FedEx OR TNT courier plus to receive your i-20 package, and you will receive your i-20 package here within 4 working days that is IF you intend going with the early October date you picked which I DON'T recommend.

But if you intend re-scheduling your appointment to ending of october, (which I FULLY RECOMMEND) then I will suggest you give Nipost this full month of september for you to receive your i-20.. But if it still hasn't arrived then you will use a pick-up service to receive your i-20 package. TNT courier plus is the cheapest, just #12,260.

You will schedule the TNT pick-up service by first week of October and get it within 4 days and go for your interview by ending october.. How do you see that.. You can see everything is about planning..

So you don't need to be confused.. You need to know how to calculate. Think ahead.. And know how to plan...

Success bro..
...tanx buddy...which state re u heading to? Bachelors or Ms?....@the house peepz, my bank statement is 10months old, do I need a fresh one while going for my interview? note* my interview is early october so dats 11months
Pls, DON'T take that Bank statement to the Embassy, it is Obsolete..

So, you need to get a RECENT bank statement of your sponsor, probably no more than 3 to 6 months old..

Like for Example, you are going to the Embassy in October as u stated above; you need a Bank statement dated in either; That same month October OR, September or, August or, July, Or June..

Anyone of the above listed will be okay..

Cheers..

Mystiqme: Dolapo and to others this may concern,
To apply for a PhD program, there are some considerations you have to make. Those high scores are great and they mostly meet the cut off of schools the top 10/20 schools, but sometimes the requirements of those schools feature things like publications, etc.
You should begin sending out emails to potential advisors and program coordinators. Some schools require that you have an advisor before they even consider you for admission. I remember missing out on a school in Spring 2012 because of my inability to nail down an advisor. In fact the program coordinator sent me an apologetic email saying I was the second best applicant, but I could not be granted admission due to that singular fact.
I would recommend you only apply to schools in which a professor has promised you his/her support, that way you don't spend too much on application fees. Do not apply blindly, contact a professor, talk about research and receive a go ahead.
CHeers.
You are soo right on point... #True talk. Kudos..

Let me Add to it that apart from spending much on application fees, if one gets to know and work closely with a professor in the school, you also stand a veryy high chance of receiving FULL or partial funding from the school...

GTBank MasterNaira card will always work.. I can vouch for em anytime, any day...

Walspring: Good info that i wish to know more about cos a school once told me to NOTARIZED my documents before.. Tell me after NOTARIZED what next?
You can Notarize your document at Ikeja High court Lagos.. I Notarized 35 documents there for #4,000.. But I did mine outside the court room in ikeja.

But when you go inside the court room. They will charge you veryy high, which is about #500 per document.

And they told me inside the court room that if I want to Notarize 35 documents, it will cost me #17,500.. So me I just give myself brain ooo. Lol. I just lock up..

So instead, I went outside the court room at ikeja high court. You will see those women that call people for affidavit outside the court room, approach them and Talk to em and Negotiate well with them like I did.

Also, AFTER Notarizing your document, the next step is to send your Notarized document in a package along with your admission application forms and document and send it by mail to your school either through Nipost Registered mail OR through FedEx, TNT, DHL, EMS. Which ever one you prefer.

Cheers bro..
