It's an issue of reverting back to their main dialect instead of using central Igbo. After the war, they decided to discard central Igbo. I'm sure even in your dialect their are words that you adopted from central Igbo. And I agree that anyone can do same and claim another thing.

For example, in my area, people are named Ifeanyi, but my actual dialect version of the name is ihaanyi.

And I hope you know that ikwere is not one people, they are a collection of identities of igboid speakers with various dialects even within the ikwere. Some ikwere people still use Umu, some use Oma, omu, or Rumu. Diobu uses Rumu while omagwa uses oma.

Sane way okocha, okacha, wokocha, okorocha, okolocha, nwokocha means same thing in different dialects but a person can adopt central Igbo version.

In delta, some ika community uses nmu as Umu, so if they put nmuokoro for instance, it's their dialectal tongue. Orlu has adopted central Igbo or union Igbo (Igbo nsugbe) in naming places otherwise it will be nmwu.
