What will I do? The money went o. I had to order for another transcript to be sent to my college instead, and forgot about getting a student copy.

GodsGabby:
Can you imagine.. so that money just got burnt like that.
Nawa o.

Some Uni’s are just plain difficult. UNIBEN for example. I paid like 35k for a student copy, they didn’t process it. Feedback was that it can’t be sent to an individual. So I understand where @EmeeNaka is coming from

GodsGabby:
This isnt true.
I have colleagues who got student copy transcript directly from their school portal online sef without going to the school.
Some universities give student copies.
Most poly dont.

You just haven't heard of it that's why.

Hello Mikkie,

I applied on June 12th and my eligibility has started and I’ve gotten 3 updates(I submitted with NSE requirements)

Did you submit with MBS and IELTS? Have you also done your medicals?

I believe we should get a final decision as from the beginning of next month. The only downside is that we don’t have enough time to book our flights ahead… so our flight fare will be on the high side.

Mikkieshow:
Hello Guys,

I am new here, i submitted my study permit application on June 10th and submitted biometrics june 17th. I am yet to get a new update on my application, my resume is second week of September. Is anyone here also in same shoe? I am not sure if I will get a response before the middle of August.

That’s the thing, we don’t know the condition the banks will put in place yet. Anyways, my main concern is still availability. Yes, we shall continue to observe. For the second point, I meant those us on this thread na. Lol

Perseverer:
First of all, we better pray they don't attach a 'you must have booked a return ticket' condition.

Secondly, you said all of us are travelling. If that is the case, nobody will remain in Nigeria na.

We shall keep observing the FX situation in the coming weeks.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by ritzzybaron: 2:54pm On Jul 28, 2021
Wonderful information! The news is that CBN will supply Banks Forex instead, which is to be made available to the public upon providing necessary documentation. My prayer is that the banks actually make FX available instead of selling to HNIs as we have seen in times past.

All these will soon be a thing of the past. We are all leaving Nigeria very soon smiley

MadeMan01:
Its actually a Very good decision and long overdue. It is shameful that a country has two different exchange rates for FOREX, it shows the government is not in control of the FOREX economy all this while. This thrived because a lot of politicians and their cronies were getting license to open Bureau De Change and they were just getting licenses. Now the banks were using some of them to sell FOREX to public to make money faster at higher levels with less restrictions posed by documentation. However, things got so bad when the volume of money controlled by BDC was so much that it was almost equalling what banks had or exceeded what the banks had. That is why sometime bank say they don't have Forex, or you go to BDC and only see one teller or two at counter and can't get $1000. But go to Mallam on street, you will get any quantity when he arranged his colleagues together at higher rate to you. Where are the mallams getting dollar if not from the CBN and banks. So the BDCs could affect the FOREX economic policy of government.
CBN should go further. To give a one month deadline for all BDC to sell their FOREX to banks and after which date any Forex they bring will be exchanged at discounted value to them in order to mop up all Forex stashed in BDC hands and threaten to revoke their license. That way all the scarce Forex hoarding by BDC will be back in banks hand and it will improve supply for banks to sell to public at govt stated rate.
It lasted all this while from obasanjo days when $1 was sold at N22 by CBN and banks were selling through BDC at N88. A lot of bank MDs became billionaire by this and FCMB chairman founder was sanctioned for one of these reasons then.

This was amazing to read. Thank you for the tips and landing gists. We will do as you have said, because we are coming right behind you. grin

elizyous:
LANDING GIST

My PPR came Apr 22. I did my first semester online and rounded up end of June. My next semester is Fall, September 1st. I travelled on July 19th via Ethiopian Airlines. I thank God for journey mercies.

At the Nigerian airport, I went with 2bags weighing a little over 23kg, my carryon bag and bag pack. I practically settled every airport personnel that I came in contact with N200 each, lol (I made sure I had plenty change). My sister accompanied me to the airport and I had to settle the police guy at the door N500 to allow my sister in (thank God she followed me in cuz she had to help me go and be making photocopies). Please ensure you go to the airport with photocopies of ur passport data page, 2 copies of your covid test result and a copy of your vaccination card (front and back).

I was asked to declare my bag( a ghana-must-go) bag for food (to reduce weight as most luggage already weigh so much even without having anything in it). I paid N2,000 for that.

Moving on to another counter, I was asked to provide my admission letter, enrollment letter, ArriveCAN, proof of school fees payment, my covid test results and vaccination card with their copies. The lady took a picture of everything and asked me to wait until they get approval that I can fly. Shortly after, approval was given and I was cleared to leave. I settled the immigration officers as well and the rest was history. I boarded my flight at 1 and we took off by 2pm. The food was good but small, I took curry meat sauce as the lady that sat beside me said the chicken sauce wasn't too good.

I arrived Toronto and we went through immigration were I was asked for the purpose of why I was here, my admission letter, enrollment letter, ARRIVECAN, vaccination card, school payment receipt, transcript and all what they asked for in Nigeria. I was asked when my study will be concluded and after all questions were answered, the immigration officer said that she will include an extra 3 months to my study permit to allow me apply for my PGWP, my work Authorization was also included in the study permit. It was a smooth and favourable journey to the glory of God Almighty.

Congrats to all those who just got PPR and I wish all PPR hopefuls the very best. May Canada favour us all. AMEN!!!

I forgot to add that I received an arrival covid test kit to use and test myself when I get to my final destination which was Alberta. When I got to my final destination, I registered online for the test and was directed to a video call where an online doctor observed me as I did the covid test on myself. Thereafter, I put the sample in the bag that was provided and left it in front of my house. They came to pick it up. Result came out negative after 2 days.

Also note that I did my covid test at afriglobal 24hours before my trip as the result takes about 24hours to come out and it cost N50,400 plus interswitch charges that brought it close to almost N52k in total. . Here is the link to book appointment and pay online for your covid test
http://Bookings.afriglobalmedicare.com

Remember to print 2 copies of your covid test result before travelling.

Hope this helps.

Yes. To access PTA at the bank, you must show your return ticket.

Good morning great minds

Is it compulsory for an international student to have a Return Flight Ticket before he/she can get PTA (Personal Travel Allowance) from a Nigerian Bank?

Don’t fret. If you are used to computers then you’ll do just fine. Like me, I find it tiring to write on paper extensively.

With a computer based test, your writing is legible, nobody will have an issue with handwriting wahala. It’s way easier.

I used British council and their desktops were superb. All the best in your exam

Please I need info on the computer based IETLS... can someone who has done it tell me how it works, i have an exam on Saturday and I just realized it’s Computer based sad

Omo! Where will someone see dollar to buy now with this useless CBN Emefiele’s administration ?

I don’t understand how an administration will just be making life difficult for the common man. I hope this news on dollars is reversed otherwise it may even go up to N1000 to a dollar.

That means we will be needing way more naira for proof of funds. It is well

Congrats to all those that have received their PPRs, we shall all testify.

My work permit just got approved
And my Sister’s PPR just landed, she applied in March.
March 5th
Biometrics March 10th with upfront medicals

Double approval!!!!, I’m so excited
Canada is sweet but hard when you live alone with no family, it’s so depressing ngl. Wasn’t easy for me doing that for 4years. I have friends though but it’s different without family.
Now having my brother and sister coming over is what I’ve always dreamt of and I’m so happy my dreams came true.
My brother got approved in January: coming for bsc
My Sister got approved today: coming for masters
Thank you everyone for all the tips you give on here, it was really helpful. The land of maple will favour us all

Yes, the new rule now is that students should travel a month to their school resumption. But you’ve already resumed. Did you show them proof of your studieshuh So when are you now going to fly? Can’t even begin to imagine how you feel.

oyinlove15:
Sorry I missed that they said it’s too early to fly , it should be like a month before resumption. I have already resumed classes online since January sef but anyways we move…
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by ritzzybaron: 2:11pm On Jul 14, 2021
Hello Oyin, so sorry about your experience. Please you didn’t say why they didn’t let you fly. Please what was their reason?

oyinlove15:
Hi so I just wanted to advice those that may want to travel this month to consider rescheduling their flight. I was scheduled to fly with Ethiopian airline to Vancouver today and I have even started my class online since January which hasn’t been easy but because I really do not see the need for that mandatory quarantine even though they still asked today at the airport despite the fact that I am fully vaccinated since 22nd June . In short avoid Ethiopian airlin me if you can. Let it be 1month before physical class start in September before one can travel or one can ask the school. Really painful experience

The 3 schools are 10 minutes walking distance to each other.

I am trying to connect students arriving in the 3 institutions together. To ease settling in after arrival, getting apartments... Apartments with multiple rooms are cheaper than single room and studios...

Very true. And also get a Sponsor if possible.... so you can add to your already existing funds. @ganiruogene

Payment of tuition fee is not an essential requirement for approval, however; in your circumstance, you're better off paying for at least a semester

Hello Gani! I remember that we were in the same situation too. My GCM note arrived over the weekend. Infact based on your notes, I think it’s the same VO that is both working on our applications.

These reasons are not hard to address. You need to explain all lump sums again in your account with evidence, asides from the gift deed, You need to establish your relationship with this person, provide a support letter and evidence of what this person does or evidence of their income.

and also declare why your studying in Canada is a reasonable expense. It is advisable that you have funds in your account to pay for your transport back to Naija and that you will have some money left upon your return.... And also, what you stand to gain here from studying your course and the opportunities here that are attractive. It is well

ganiruogene:
Good morning all

I just got my GCMS notes after being delayed last month. I intend reapplying soon. Please what advice can you give to aide my reapplication to be successful.
I tried to explain the major lump sums in the first application with a gift deed.

The two times I got Application/profile updated on my profile.... I got actual updates both times.
Check very well, maybe your eligibility has started or your medicals has been updated.

At other times when you see that status and there is no actual update on your account whatsoever, then that is a ghost update.

I saw this on my account “Application/profile updated”. But no new message when I clicked on it, I guess that’s the ghost update, right ?

The debit can only occur in the same Name with the GIC account. So you should open a dollar account that he can fund, if you don’t already have one.
