But Nigerians r not as smart as you might think.
A guy that does not have a masters degree in any financial field not even economics.
A guy who can hardly be described as stellar in the banking industry.

A who only got there as a result of yar'duas backward and reckless tribalistic nothern agenda.
He came in and blew hot air and we all danced !

U lot haven't seen anything yet.
Do you remember the banking industry b4 Soludo, well we are there now.

The banking sector will no longer be a player in the economic picture.

ngozi has not achieved what sanusi has achieved in his career, he is a young man but the man is born in economics and a family of scholars, sanusi got into economics when he was just a teenger not by chance, and she knows it she shouldn't insult the nation but even thinking about removing sanusi, i am sure she knows it she cannot do it, it would be a insult as i said
Sanusi is absolutely no economics scholar.
All he has is a Msc in economics in ABU Zaria
Okonjo on the other hand is an MIT Phd holder and has worked with international institutions.

It is time we brought in international technocrats to run he complexities of our economy and to give us a long term direction.
Not this simplistic uneducated view of how the CBN should function.

All u Sanusi apologists, look at our banks it is in a worse state than he met it.
Confidence and stock price is at an all time low.

He view on banking is that banks should just be deposit warehouses while the CBN has directly started funding various aspects of the economy.
We got Sanusi because at a point in time Nigeria just had to politisize tghe position.

I dont know why Nigerians will rather lie to themselves than face the facts.
Bombs have been going off in Nigeria for a while now.
There have been kidnapings all over.
Election violence.
Religious and ethnic violence.
And you think one more bomb will make a huge difference.
As far as foreign investors are concerned Nigeria is threated as a war zone/ failed state like Somalia.

The thruth behind the recent slide in NSE is that u have a CBN governor who has gone rogue.

CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

The liquidation threat by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the rescued bank has continued to affect the prices of banks shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Even the ‘healthy’ banks were most hit by the development as THISDAY findings showed the most banks’ share price have recorded a downswing out of a total of 15 trading sessions observed on the Nigerian bourse.

For instance, the share price of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, slipped by 11.13 per cent to N11.97 per share Tuesday, from N13.47 per share as at closing bell on June 1. In the same vein, while the share price of First City Monument Bank Plc fell by 7.2 per cent from N7.76 per share on June 1, to N7.20 per share Tuesday, GTBank dropped by 7.2 per cent to N15.10 per share  , from N16.28 per share on June 1.

Similarly, whereas Access Bank’s share price also slumped by 8.2 per cent to N7.09 per share , from N7.72 per share on the first trading session of the second quarter, Skye Bank also declined to N8 per share yesterday, from N8.27 per share on June 1.

Most of the rescued banks are working assiduously towards meeting the September 30 deadline recapitalisation deadline and the development had raised tension in the system.

Due to the slide recorded by the banking industry which largely determines the direction of the market, the NSE’s bearish situation continued Tuesday as the NSE All Share Index fell to 24,889.74 basis points while the total market capitalisation closed at N7.95 trillion. The rescued banks were not left out as their share price also depreciated.

Meanwhile, rates at the Nigerian interbank market dropped yesterday following the injection of funds from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). The rates at the interbank market, which attained its highest position this year due to the tightness in the system, reduced as a result of yesterday’s inflow.

Specifically, the Overnight tenor fell to 11.46 per cent, from 13.50 per cent, just as the 7-day tenor dropped to 12.17 per cent Tuesday, from 13.96 per cent on Monday.

i see guys here mentioning people who are not political leaders or figures.

well, as for me

Chief Obafemi Awolowo: Even many years after his death, our politicians are still trying to gain relevance and votes by invoking his name. As a politican, the fastest way to win hearts and minds in Western Nigeria is by associating with Awo. In many minds, Awo = development.

Sir Ahmadu Bello: see Awo post above, the same applies to Sir Bello. His name still does magic in the North, too.

Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe : his name doesn't evoke as much awe and emotions as Awo and Bello, but he's alright i guess. undecided undecided we named Airport after him.

Aminu Kano: a true man of his people

Ojukwu: also loved, trusted and respected by his people.

Muhammadu Buhari: love him or hate him, respect for the General cuts across Nigeria.

Shehu Musa Yaradua: scion of Northern nobility. When he died, the whole country was like,"holy crap! this Abacha mofo is crazy! he did this to the top dog?"

Pa Ajasin:
: told Abacha where to shove it.

Gani Fawehinmi: respected for his brave fight against injustice. we all thought he had a death wish.

Chief Sunday Awoniyi: respect cuts across Nigeria.
That is because he was neither a regionalist or tribalist.
He is the only one out of all the above who has been immortalised and has stuff named after him all over Nigeria.
In the SE and SS and the whole North asides Abuja there is not a single street named after Awo.
Same applies to Ahmadu Bello all over the south.
But for Zik, he has been immortalised all over.
SE, SS, North , SW
So I would go for Zik by far !

You are wrong.

There is a big difference between people who know how to choose their leaders, and the people who don't know.

Yoruba People know how to choose and reject their leaders.

While some are stuck with the same set of leaders all their lives.

For example OYO State is yet to get a two term governor for the past 12 years.

Now that is the type of democracy we need.

Ability to change your leaders when they mess up.
You r abolutely right. If I may paraphrase, Yoruba people are best at choosing the wrong leaders and then doing it again and again.
That is not the type of democracy u need, u don't just vote a candidate because he belongs to a certain party or because the party is seen to be adopted by Yoruba.
That is recipe for failure.

It about the YORUBA PEOPLE. Tinubu and ACN should be grateful to them.
I beg to differ. It rather indicates confusion, lack of ideology and political harlotry.
In the UK and US most states or Districts typically vote Democrat/Republican, Labour/Conservative/LibDem.

We are only 12 years into Democracy and some SW states have gone from AD - PDP - ACN

Ladies and Getlemen, what looked like a prediction into the far future in the thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-686186.32.html has started to unravel itself even before the thread went stale.

I must confess this has happenned much sooner than I expected.
Plus I thought it would be an Awoist emerging to attack tinubu's authority.

Rather it is Tinubu driven by his over-bloated image and astonished by his successes, who is tring to take on an established intitution such as Awolowo of Yorubaland.

Tinubu has only succeded in breeding enemies in yorubaland, he has foolishly created a rallying point for people who would want to move against him.
I have a feeling things might turn very ugly and this might not end well.
This is a typical illustration of the "Crass", "Rascally" politics being practised in Yoruba land. Y attack the family of a deceased widely acclaimed hero like Awo.
Just hope this does not have catastrophic effects on the Nation.

keeeem:
@Roadstar

I have read all your posts and the arguments therein. They look very interesting and at the same time an exchange of intellectual discourse.

As a Yoruba man, I will humbly disagree with you on all fronts because you definitely do not understand the history of the Yorubas. In Yorubaland, our fathers used to buttress one common adage that says 'If a food belongs to all of us and all of a sudden someone comes to snatch the food from the table and now asks us to bring our plates so that he can serve us one by one. A true son of his father will not forward his own plate' . We are not known to be bastards. That said it is worthy of note that the South West is the only part of Southern Nigeria where we have a clear cut leader either by nomination or inducement. At the moment, the man who gives direction is BAT. Our perception of him might not be what you think it is. Tinubu at the moment provides the platform with which every Yoruba son and daughter identifies. We are not saying he is a saint. Far from it. we know the amount of money he has stolen (which might be a conjecture anyway) but the fact that he has identified with the people to give us what we want is enough for us.
Thank you for acknowledging the highlighted fact .
This is exactly what I have pointed out to be a dangerous precedence, which have been exploited at times in the past by cynical politians in the south-west.
The next issue is that , contradictory to ur statement has never been by nomination, in has been by circumstance most of the time which has in turn led to a power tussle. Has led to a leadership crisis at most times in history.
Any opposition to the de facto leader is seen to be backed by the centre. And whatever issues he raises are either quashed or repressed. A trend which is hardly democratic.
We need to remember that the man BAT was himself once at odds with Afenifere/AD and only manage to emerge as Yoruba leader after he had managed to have emerged victor in the tussle.
If we justify BAT, then where are turning the issue of yoruba leadership to a free for all personal fight with the winner emerging as leader.
This is what has lead to crisis in the SW from time and has led to others dismissing Yoruba leadership as rascally and uncivilised.

I will implore you to dissipate your energy in doing a research on how the SE can distinct itself with a view to bringing development to its area. OBJ (a son of the soil) starved lagos of funds for 3 solid years over a constitutional issue all because we want to play mainstream. Meanwhile Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Osun and Ondo which played in the mainstream did not see any meaningful development other than looting.
The starvation of lagos of funds was as a result of the same attitude I have talked about. It was a personality clash between BAT and Obj and the whole of lagos state suffered from it. You have to see Obj as well as the third leg of the tripod in the fight for yoruba leadership.

When you mentioned that Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo,Osun and Ondo saw a PDP transformation for a period. You need to read facts. These state governors were not voted for in the second term but were rigged in by OBJ in other to remain relevant. The first term they enjoyed was as a result of the fast one OBJ played on them to support him being a Yoruba man and then Pa Adesanya and co fell for it and that was why we lost it to PDP. Osoba then was meant to go because of the arrogance he displayed while being governor. Same went for Lam Adesina. Bisi Akande's case was that of stepping on toes and he lost. Adebayo lost because he fell for the Obj trick. Adefarati lost because he was perceived to be too old to lead a state like that. Once beaten twice shy. Please let us be.
You, I think is basing the selected on conjecture. The above story is a myth. Pa Adesanya and his faction of Afenifere fell 4 it because they were left handicap after the deep divisions in Afenifere/AD they dinned with the devil just to re-install themselves at the top by any means necessary so they deperately tried to go into an alliance with Obj. A strategy that has been used by various yoruba leaders since Awos era. Now you get what i'm trying to say.
All the elected AD governors where not exactly star performers as well.

As a young man growing up, I know that the Yoruba demand performance from the people at the helms of affairs. Your region might look at governance as a money making venture but in the SW we have our own opinion and our thoughts must be respected. Please leave Awolowo out of this talk. It is an incontrovertible fact that he towered above his peers in terms of achievement.

Please stop this demonising being done about Tinubu. It will not work. The Yoruba man knows where he is going and need nobody to show him the direction. We are content with what we have and need no mainstream to be part of the center.
PS: I think u are a smart guy, how did u arrive at the fact that i'm from the SE.
I'm sure ur not one of these Igbo vs Yoruba bigots on NL.

Katsumoto:
You mean political sophistication in the SE where the SE voted overwhelmingly for GEJ but wasn't rewarded with the positions such as senate president and speaker that it so desperately wanted. Or you mean the political sophistication of the North that saw it lose power in a power sharing arrangement to the SS. Are you Yoruba? How can you pretend to know what the Yoruba want? The Yoruba wanted PDP out of its region and thats what it got.
If that was what the SE was after then what is so sophisticated about that. The SE was mare trying as much as possible to fit round pegs in round holes. With likes of Chime of the PDP retained and his Imo state counter part Ohakim removed !

The world is not black and white u know, there is a huge middle ground. From 1999 the SW has swung from totally AD to almost totally PDP back to almost totally ACN. This all due to the overbearing impact of tribal sentiment which is in my judgement very unsophisticated.

And will give room for negative elements to exploit big !

Please do tell us; who are the good elements within the PDP? Is it your president who spent Nigeria's rainy day funds on his re-election? Or is it OBJ, Anenih, Ciroma, IBB, Atiku, Orji, Bankole, OGD, David Mark, Akala or any of the governors in the North? Why can't you just let this issue be? The SW wanted change and it went for it; the rest of Nigeria didn't. Let everyone be happy with their choices.

So voting out under-performing, visionless, and corruption tainted governors is now tribalism? Which Majority voted for GEJ? The SW equally embraced Tinubu by voting for the candidates that his party presented.
Have you noticed that most of the people you listed are all but irrelevant in today's PDP ?
PoliticsRe: De Ja Vu: Political Racality In The Sw. Another Impending Disaster by RoadStar(op): 3:46pm On Jun 09, 2011
Tinubus only reason for not supporting a South-Westerner to the position of Speaker is because he wants to continue being the top dog in the SW and nothing else !

Travel back to the 60s and u will see a similiarity when there was crises in the SW because some people have become more relevant then Awo.
Awo also was so desperate to regain his lost relevance that he stooped low and served under a Junta !

Is GEJ the best that Nigeria can produce?
At least the majority voted directly for GEJ but same cannot be said about Tinubu, yet he has ended up as the second most powerful figure in Nigeria.

He achieved this by exploiting tribal sentiments from one of Nigerias major ethic groups.

This surely a very dangerous development.

Common guys this shouldn't be happening still in Nigeria.

The other day in Anambra state Peter Obi tried to use the same political sentiments and his candidate Dora Akinyilu was roundly defeated by the man he called an Awoist , Chris Ngige!

On another note, you aren't sure of what my personal take on Tinubu is.
My issue is with  blind sheep-like follow one direction attitude , it is not the best.
I am sure there are better elements within ACN but there must be some in PDP and other parties.
This attitude has given so much power to a riff-raff like Tinubu. Even though this might not be what Yoruba's really want.

A certain level of political sophistication is already playing out in the SE, SS and even the North.
Why must the Yorubas still continue with this outdated attitude which belong to the past.
