Hatching is a practical thing, No amount of my write ups will do justice.. Like what lexy91 rightly said, I will also advice you employ someone to spawn for u, or you learn it from a hatchery..

ab1x: The way out of this mess is not only to know the source of your seeds but to buy fingerlings. If para venture, they didn't perform as expected within the next 2 to 3 months, you can easily call the market women to come and buy them. I've stated it in my previous post on this thread that farmers should try and get fingerlings and rear it up to Juvenile. It takes just two weeks to do that. Whether you like it or not, you can't rule out runt whenever you hatch, even if you rear your fish up 6 months(Grow out), there is no way you will not have a fish less than 1KG.

Seconded!!! Fingerlings is preferable to juvenile except you know the source of the juveniles..

TOKUGAWA: Personally I don't think all fish farmers can become a good hatcher.At some point in time we just have to buy from other specialist hatchers. Me as a person m nt realy interested in hatching. Mitsubishi supplies most of Nissan parts,GM Motors supplies 91% of daewoo n chevy parts.Honda supplies Rover. So we can not all be hatchers,or else the system will be choked up. So I cnt rili iddentify a runt.That's why I buy from reliable hatchers until Aquatic1 messed himself ip.

U are spot on!!! But u see u have to know the source of your fish.. You have to visit the hatchery your self to see tins for urself.. The conditions in which they are hatched and bred.. The type of brood stock they spawn with.. You have to be close with them.. U can't just make an order for some persons to bring fish for u without knowing the source..

Don't be decieved fish farming is a GAME, u must understand the rules of the game or else you loose out..

To me fish become brood stock after ONE year, farmers have their own different opinion concerning the age.. You can hand pick the BEST matured fishes from ur stocking before sales and keep them for some months so that u can use them as brood stock..

There are farms that specialises on brood stock production.. In lagos a kg is #1500..

Now let me give a break down of the issue partaining runts..

If you spawn you MUST always have classes (Hierarchy) of the fishes on each spawning.. You Must have:

1.FIRST CLASS
2.SECOND CLASS
3.THIRD CLASS
4.PASS


FIRST CLASS: they constitute 15% of every spawning.. They are also called the FIRST SHOOT OUTS.. If you stock these shoot outs and with good optimal management you will SURELY MAKE PROFIT.. If they are stocked on a concrete pond in 5 months EXPECT 1.5kg and above and on earthen 2kg and above..
NOTE: No hatchery and I repeat NO hatchery or AGENT will ever sell these set of fish to U, except its on special order or the person is downright honest in his dealings...

SECOND CLASS: these set of fish constitute 35% of the total stock.. With good management these set of fishes will do just fine.. In 5 months time expect 1kg and above in concrete and on earthen pond 1.5 kg and above!!! Profit margin is very good..

THIRD CLASS: these set of fish constitute 20% of the whole lot.. With good management in the space of five month expect 600 to 700 grms.. When a fish farmer stock these set of fish they run at a loss or they get back just the capital they invested..

PASS: these set of fish constitute 30% of the whole stock.. They WILL NEVER GROW.. When a fish farmer stock these kind of fishes they feed from now till jericho without getting result.. These set of fishes are dull, they are not active, no appetite to eat, they just hang vertically on the water.. Any fish farmer that stock these kind of fish has already run at a huge loss.. And these are the type of fish that fish farmers buy unknowingly from agents.. With good management in the space of 5months 200 to 300grms either earthen or concrete ponds...


These are secrets that most fish farmers don't know, that's why they run at losses.. In my previous post I wrote on how to identify these runts..

NOTE: when I hatch, most times I sell my first and second class to fish farmers directly knowing they will surely do well with Good management.. The third and pass I sell to AGENTS who in turn sell to fish farmers, just like the case we have on ground..

nairamaniac: let's make this similar to jamb question and answer. No accusations intended. Just guess-work. I'm guessing the person is ayosat. The riddle seems so. There r 4 big-dealers on this thread. Ayosat, robonski, excelssor and abx1. Now if its not either of the last 3 that r wriitten here than its ayosat. And he's the biggest dealer of fingerlings and juveniles. But I also feel he has an explanation for that. That's if he's the suspect.

I have never sold fingerlings or juvenile to anyone on this thread b4 niether has ab1x sold too.. The question is who always advertise fingerlings and juvenile on every catfish thread??.. All fingers points down to AYOSAT and AQUATIC1... Its none other than one of these two people... Tokugawa rightly said the fellow also shares inputs on this thread, and I don't think ayosat is active on this thread like aquatic1..

TOKUGAWA: I am not a newbie,and it wasn't my 2nd time.I specialise in earthen ponds which I even construct for people.This particular stock was a special project for me.So I spent well on them,my fiance even surpoted me financially.I had to break the news to her yesterday afternoon.Now m postponning my wedding. I am so sorry for all the loss and expecailly your marriage that has been shifted.. Its down right painful.. I have receieved calls and mails for us to be transparent in this house and also urging us to expose the fellow in this heinous act.. Two people have contacted me that this same fellow has also sold runts to them and they made serious losses .. But I dnt know if its the same fellow u are talking about...

In all firness let's thrash out this issue once and for all, NAME the person and let him come here to clerify himself.. And if its the same person those two people where talking about then the house will decide what to do..

TOKUGAWA: After 5months of breeding my catfish which i bought from a popular nairalander,which I spent loads of money with 85% successful mgt practice.I want to categorically tell u dt it was a disaster,I mean serious disaster.I bought the fish from the guy because of his contributions on this forum.

My brother I am short of words.. Anyways I know the person u are talking about VERY well.. I understand how u feel but this is nigeria u don't trust anyone even on this thread.. Some people are dim wits who don't care about doing the right thing in business.. He sold runts to u because of his own sales and selfish aggrandisement and made u spend lots of money in feeding them and also your precious time..
