PoliticsRe: Lagos To Get Five Power Plants By 2014 by rolchi(m): 9:08pm On Sep 25, 2013
naptu2: I don't think many people understand what's going on.

1) In 2001 the Lagos State Government set up the Enron/Aes Barge project (the first IPP done by a state government in Nigeria). The AES barge generates 211 MW of electricity. The project was done in conjunction with AES/Enron and Yinka Folawiyo Power Company.

2) The Obasanjo Administration did everything it could to frustrate this project. Initially, Nepa refused to guarantee the project. Remember, the law at the time did not allow Lagos to generate, transmit or distribute electricity.

3) The agreement between Nepa and LASG was that about 50% of electricity produced in the barge will be distributed in Lagos. This agreement was not honoured. Electricity generated on the barge is simply fed into the national grid.

4) The Lagos State Government is still being billed for the project, even though Nepa did not keep to its side of the agreement.

5) The government decided to explore other options to ensure that Lagosians have electricity. It wouldn't establish IPPs again, because the electricity generated would be fed into the national grid, rather than prioritising the needs of Lagos.

6) The government, in conjunction with El-Sewedy, an egyptian company, decided to produce equipment. They produce transformers, metres, etc. This is done to reduce blackouts caused by poor distribution equipment.

7) The government also decided to take Lagos State Government facilities off the national grid, in order to reduce the load borne by the national grid in Lagos (and thus increase the quantum of electricity that's available to Lagosians). It also decided to launch an electricity conservation campaign.

cool The Island Power Project was set up. The Island Power Plant powers General Hospital Marina, Island Maternity, Lagos High Court Igbosere, Magistrate Court Igbosere, Lagos House Marina and several schools and street lights on the Island. Power plants were also built to take the Iju and Adiyan waterworks off the national grid. More plants are planned to take Lasu and other state government facilities off the grid.

9) LASG was excited when the FG decided to privatise Nepa. It bidded for the Eko Distribution Company, but did not win. This means that LASG is still not allowed by law to sell electricity directly to Lagosians. The LASG decided to continue its policy of taking LASG facilities off the national grid.
Nice analysis. However, if and when power (and with the current strides in privatizing electricity) is fully available. LASG will switch back to public power faaaaassssssssst.

hopilo: THE Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to raise the number of Independent Power Plants (IPPs) in the state to five, with a combined capacity of 47.35 Mega Watts (MW) by 2014

This is nothing but noise making by ignorant people. We need 50,000 megawatts of power in Nigeria to have uninterrupted power, Lagos alone need over 10,000 mega watt which one correct power plant can produce that. Not these 47.35 MW gas turbine generator we make noise about. I work in a company were the power requirement offshore is 4050kilo watt of power, we get that from on small gas turbine in the generator room. To get 10,000 mega watt is just to increase capacity, not a rocket science.
With what you have written, I doubt your credentials. Sir, it takes rocket science to increase capacity

theoctopus: That is not true. Most of the PH end of the east west road has been done. The major work going on is in Bayelsa and Delta. Almost all the bridges are on either Bayelsa or Delta. Amaechi is a drama queen. This his all out war will not end well for him. You cannot fight a war without the support of your base. I have never seen a serious politician that relies on the support of people outside his state. Foolish move

The people of Rivers state are on the ground and are going to so kick his butt when the time comes. He can keep appealing to South west people all he wants. Let me see how those people will save him.
I concur....my brother, only time, only time will reveal Amaechi's secrets. Now, he has the media.

Est belle: I live in rivers state and I know how deplorable our roads are...Amaechi is just a tyrant and a trouble maker, he is the biggest loser in this fight. The most annoying part is that he is trying to act the victim and draw sympathy for the ignorant ones like most people on nairaland. The airport he is talking about is almost finished..the east west road starting from akwa ibom to onne is also at its finishing stage. Choba-rumuokuta road he awarded to his God father G.U Ake is in a complete mess, it took him 6yrs to complete that road, same with obiri ikwerre-airport road. The monorail he spent billions of naira on hasn't been completed and its does not cover up to 2 kilometers. Greater portharcourt is just a hoax, he pulled down the old teaching hospital and promised to build a world class sky scrapper (hospital), he spent billions of naira only to find out that the ground wasn't strong enough to hold the structure. He cleared abonnema wharf and promised to turn the place to another London and nothing has been done. There is no single traffic light working in port harcourt. Amaechi spent 6 years trying to build a mall shop rite and refused to complete it because omehia started the project. Rusust the state university went on strike for over a year because Amaechi refused to change the VC his friend even when the students were protesting. The so called health centers with no doctors or the model schools with no teachers, the model school where I live on abuloma road port harcourt, isn't big enough to contain the students, they had to rent a building close by for 8 million a year. He has built new roads and schools but good and feasible are they, the next government will also come and repair or patch or expand the same roads. We choose to accept mediocrity in Nigeria. Amaechi is a thief and I hope he goes to jail. Who is fooling who? Same Amaechi that suspended 7 local government chairmen because they came late to a meeting, same man that supervised the maiming of a honorable member, asked for the suspension of obio akpor lga chairman because he is pro-wike. When the gods want to destroy a man, they first make him mad.

If someones says something that you think is wrong, counter the person with a SUPERIOR arguement. I hope you get it?

Meanwhile, East-West road did not only pass through Rivers State. It is a road that passed through most of the Niger Delta states. It is over 360km long, with about 37 bridges. Why didn't OBJ complete it in 8 years? Was it because of political differences with Amaechi? Why didn't Yar Adua complete it in 3 years? Was it because of political differences with Amaechi? Yeye dey smell.
Another superior reasoning...thanks.

Sincere 9gerian: If the state and FG jointly paid for the helicopters, how come the FG is now stalling the whole project? These are some of the collateral damages due to political roforofo fight. The FG should tell us why they've failed to clear the helicopter to come in. Are there fears that Amaechi had other intentions?

But can the state really sustain 2 helicopters flying 24/7 and other elements on ground needed for quick response? Amaechi to me appears like the son of a very rich dad who throws money at problems, and who thinks big, and thinks that the bigger the better.
Again, you have a point my broda!

Sincere 9gerian: These Channelstv Presenters acted deceitful at the initial part of the interview during the discussion on education. They mentioned the winners of the channelstv book competition, who are from schools in Rivers State without mentioning the fact that those students were from missionary schools and not public schools. The winners of that competition were from two missionary schools in Rivers and one private school in Lagos. Yes, Amaechi is building model schools, but the presenters ought to have mentioned the missionary schools part of the story. By deliberatly looking away from that aspect and using half-truths to massage the ego of the governor, I think that is deceitful.
Correct!

PoliticsRe: Anambra Ordered Arrest and Deportation Of Child beggars in 2011. by rolchi(m): 1:00pm On Aug 02, 2013
Nothing is wrong with sending people to their homes, if they turn out to be mendicants and destitutes. Chances are that their limit to survival is enhanced when the are with their relatives.

However, such deportation must be done with high level of matured diplomacy with decent and proper documentation. In the case of Fashola and Lagos State; it is unfortunate that member of KAI who allegedly carried our the deportation was umnindful of the intricacies involved. The way and manner it was done is not accetable. Even in the exchange or transfer of POW, decorum is employed.

Lagos State Government cannot claim to identify 14 Anambra citizens and then bring in 72 persons. They cannot claim that no government official was there to receive them and then then dropped their 'vitctims' at bridge head and returned to Lagos with the Police Escort. No Nigerian conducts government business by 2.30am in an open place as the bridge head in Onitsha.

Governor Batatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) should apologise on behalf of his officials and lets move on with the Nigerian Project.

Ngige should have told the Governor of Lagos, that the distance from Bridgehead to Government House in Awka is not not more than 30mins drive by that ungodly hour. Ngige should have requested for the Hand-over letter to the so-called Anambra Government Official.

Ngige, please, ask APC Gov. Fashola to apologise on behalf of his officials...they actually goofed on this!

ssii: These are the people fomenting trouble in Rivers state. Wike's inordinate ambition to become governor after Amaechi is the real crux of these problems. He has capitalized on the differences between GEJ and Amaechi to put his stooge (Obuah) as PDP chairman without elections. They have sensed that GEJ and Amaechi may reconcile, especially the way they were ignored at the airport by GEJ, so they are back again to GEJ to run down the governor ( this time openly )and act as though they mean well for GEJ/PEJ. GEJ should be careful of Wike and his cohorts, they are just massaging his ego because they want to take charge of Rivers state. He is a man and the president of this country, he should not allow himself to be used and fooled by these shameless, greedy politicians from Rivers state. Apparently PEJ is already fooled by the antics of Wike.
Which Stooge? You call a party chairman returned by a competent court a stooge? Amaechi is a beneficiary of the judiciary. As a politican, what we expect him to do is to appeal the case that brought in Felix Obuah while still working with him until hie appeal is heard. He cannot begin to fight and scatter the PDP because of a court case. Now again, Amaechi has gone to the courts to stop an impending probe.....why?

CrimeWhy We Prefer Live Human Beings – Suspected Parts Dealer by rolchi(op): 12:25pm On Jun 13, 2013
Why we prefer live human beings – Suspected parts dealer

LAGOS — Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja have arrested three fleeing members of a syndicate who allegedly specialized in selling live humans and decomposing human parts for money rituals.

Their arrest came barely three weeks after some of their members were paraded at the Lagos State Police Command, where they confessed to have sold live human beings for N40,000, hands—N4,000 and head—N8,000.

Those recently arrested are Gazali Akewadola (60), the native doctor who allegedly offered N40,000 for a live human being, Alfa Taofeek Akinola (35) and Kazeem Sanni (25).

To the bewilderment of all, Gazali confessed that live human beings were cheaper than buying dead human parts, saying all parts of a live human being are vital in the preparation of money ritual.

For instance, he said a life human being was bought for N40,000, “but at the end of the day, you get a lot of expensive parts from it. Aside that, it is even more potent because the efficacy of the charm or concoction prepared with live human parts cannot be compared with the ones prepared with dead parts.

“When a life human being is killed, one will get fresh blood which is used in preparing some charms. The same body will also give you hairs from private part, head and some mustache which are used for other ritual purposes. The private part is also very useful for the preparation of effective concoction. The head, flesh intestines, liver, heart, eyes, lips and tongues can be used for pepper soup which is usually very delicious than that of animal meat. I usually take the pepper soup so as to assure those who patronize us that it is not harmful. It also fortifies one spiritually.

“If you buy a full human being for N30,000 or N40,000 and pieces it, you will end up getting N100,000 or more because you will get more than 10 parts that will yield more money for you.”

Gazali who hails from Folahan, Ado-Odo in Owode Yewa Local Government Area of Ogun State, further said: “I am an Islamic teacher and a cleric. I own an Islamic school in Owode Yewa. I am also married with eight children. I am also a native doctor. I cure people of their ailments and help those who want to get rich quick, by using human parts to prepare charms and concoctions for them.

We use soft bones to cure epilepsy

“Most of the human parts I bought were sold to me by Kazeem Sanni. He used to sell dead human head between N3,000 and N8000, depending on the market price. The soft bones that can easily be grinded into powder are very cheap. It is just for N1,000. It is used to cure ailments like epilepsy.”

Asked why he did not use any of his children since he has eight of them, he said that would reduce the potency of the ritual concoction, adding that its potency depended solely on strangers being used. He said their victims were usually abducted from Lagos State and beyond, with the use of charms.

He further disclosed that aside the N40,000 paid to Sanni to get him a live human being, he gave him another N5,000 and a charm to hypnotize the male victims. But he said the plan almost failed as Sanni was almost caught. He, however, expressed regrets that despite the use of human parts to make other people rich, he ended up not only being poor but arrested along the line.

Money ritual charm changed my level

The second suspect, Alfa Taofeek, who is also an indigene of Owode Yewa in Ogun State confessed to have bought a human head from the third suspect, Kazeem, which he grinded and mixed with local gin.

According to him, “it was to enable me get rich. I am a Muslim cleric and I have been making people rich through this means but became jealous at a point and decided to get rich as well, since I was unable to get enough money from my clients.

“After drinking the concoction prepared with a human head, I got more customers and made more money. I even threw parties on a monthly basis to celebrate my new level.

“I also used part of the money to sponsor the graduation ceremony of some of my students in the Islamic school known as Alfa Taofeek Islamic School, at Owode Yewa.”

Customs officers lured me into money rituals

On his part, the third suspect, Kazeem Sanni, claimed to have opted for the money ritual business due to frustration from Customs men.

He said: “At a point, business was no longer moving because Customs men at the border were always seizing the goods, at the end of which their owners would force me to pay for them. I became frustrated even contemplated selling my father’s landed property. I decided to consult Alfa Taokeek Akinola to find out the cause of my predicament. He instructed me to get a human head in order to be rich. After that, he requested a live human being. I attempted kidnapping someone so that I can cut off his head but it was not possible. He then instructed me to exhume dead body from the graves which I did and got him three at the rate of N3,000 each.”

Their arrest, as explained by spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, was in compliance with the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko’s directive to SARS Commander, Abba Kyari, to get the fleeing suspects, after the arrest of three members of the syndicate on May 15, 2013, with human parts.
