Perhaps, he's truly a mumu, I mean who just renders such assistance to someone they don't know, out of the blue. Unless he knew the girl in question then his action is permissible but if not then the lady could be right. He thought he was being impressive but the lady thought otherwise. Do gooders doesn't ensnared nor attract ladies, at best it makes one look hebetudinous and creepy. I can bet that he wouldn't have bothered if it was a fellow guy struggling to pay for the watch. If it was an assistance bothering on pressing needs, like t-fare, food, water etc it would have been understandable. But for a watch, a want and something she can do without and wasn't 'urgent' his gesture wasn't necessary. I'm afraid I share same sentiment as the lady. He's no samaritan but indeed a mumu. |
I think miss Ikeji is playing to the gallery and her rebuttal isn't grounded enough. Whatever fee she charged political parties during the election period is her prerogative and her terms, which is fine and not a problem. But her refutation that she didn't receive up to the alleged amount bandied around is first and foremost unwarranted as no names were mentioned so a denial isn't necessary. Secondly, for her to allude that the allegation is orchestrated to bring 'a woman' down is petit, unfounded and a futile attempt to attract sympathy and furnace gender differential prejudice. It isn't surprising how some women are quick to infer they're being targeted because of their gender. The gender card isn't a plea in a legal jurisprudence by the way. Lastly, there was no point to also infer that some of her readers benefited from the 'few millions' like she put it. That's also not a plea in a law court and a ploy to manoeuvre her way into her fans heart. Like I said initially whatever she charged for adverts is her right provided it was contractual and agreed by the parties involved but this rebuttal isn't substantial and objective. |
nichole2:So nicely put, ma'am. Very indicative of your ignorance and prejudice. Loquaciousness is not just annoying, when it becomes meddlesome and irresponsible, it makes the loquacious lose respect and credibility before the public. Your utterance isn't only feckless and heedless but also an unwarranted affront to the gazillion of diaspora Nigerian professionals who engages in fruitful trades and are indeed instrumental to the rapid growth of the economy of their host nations. Since you affirmed you reside abroad and are obviously talking from experience, I'd advice you reshuffle your clique of friends, that's if you aren't of same breed, coz not every diasporan Nigerians are like you loads. Your problem lies on the aphorism that clearly states that birds of same feather flock together. Numpty. |

I don't think unmarried men are disrespected in the society, unmarried women are mostly the victims not men. And why should anyone care what anyone thinks about them for not marrying, their business and headache. Nonetheless, I'm equally interested in learning from the question you asked. |
Disgraceful. |
Thank God say I'm not into any of those profession. ![]() |
Lol. I know of one and I feel sorry for his poor wife. The wife has been the breadwinner since they got married over 5years ago without him making absolutely no effort to get a job or start a business. All he does everyday is boast of his connections, knowledge of lucrative businesses in town and his ability of turning a thousand naira venture to a billion naira capital in less than a month. This is even as he dismisses every move and wife's suggestion to assist him with funds to start a business. The wife, who's a family friend told me recently how he accosted his junior and advised him to start a palm oil processing factory in one of their fathers land and that the business is promising. She was downcasted as someone who's idle would go about counselling people on providable business ideas without thinking about himself. Babe just dey the marriage coz of shame, pride and what 'people' would say. Such men are a shame, really. |

Awww, Mr. Charis thanks for the blandiloquence, it's an honour to be part of this one big amazing family on NL. I'm hoping as this year draws closer everyone of us must have attain the heights they envisaged when it commenced and that next year would be an even better year with loads of success. Nairaland has been a great part of this year, very educative, inspiring and accommodating. I can't imagine how my year would have been humdrum without this forum, it's been refreshing. I'm looking forward to a better year with much accomplishment and my wish is for everyone to accomplish their heart desires. Just like my stance on religion, I'm not against the sacred union of marriage and have an even stronger reservation against the idea or a world where the union would be non-existing. Just like everyone else, I do hope to get married someday and I'm looking forward to it. But I'm for a robust dialogue on why I think the institution is failing and not a 'must-do' like most people want us believe. I think in isolation and not what the bandwagon brigade subscribe to and we can always disagree to agree. Nuff said. All thanks to you, Kinglekan, Naijaboiy, Deejavuu, TheSonOfMark, Kachisbarbie, Mzztega, Tosyne2much, DaretoDiffer, Wristbangle, Tohpahz, Sinizia, Ipledge10, STFUareyouGod, Softysparky etc etc who has made this year worthwhile. Merry Christmas and a happy new year in advance. |
I find it ironic that you've asked same question I do quite often challenge myself with. I don't know why anyone would consider another arrogant just coz they usually don't share same views to life, similar ideas, character and approach to issues. For all we know, it could be that they either don't want to embrace the fact that humans are wired differently or they feel intimidated by diverse attitude which isn't in tandem with theirs. Their inability to embrace divergent attitude should be their problem really, not yours or anyone else. I'd say be you, don't be coerced and let anyone change you provided you know you're not pompous but same time do some soul searching and adjust some attitude of yours. Also, although you affirm you don't talk much, I'd suggest you don't always counter peoples argument even when you're convinced they're wrong and have a superior argument. Some people don't like to be corrected and see it as an affront to their prestige. So even if their arguments is glaringly erroneous, just let it slide. Don't act like you know better than others, like you're superior or better than everyone else. Relate with everyone fairly like you'd want to be treated. I had a colleague in my previous place of engagement who always had this mean, unsmiling and glum look and when I newly resume work everyone was murmuring how he's arrogant and suggesting I shouldn't attempt to be nice to him as it's futile. However, I wasn't having any of that and was determined to make an independent assessment of him while I keep extending cordial gestures his way. It didn't take long for me to realise that this guy was the most amazing, precocious and most interesting despite his seemingly taciturn nature. In a nutshell you should be yourself and at same time be friendly and simplistic as not everyone have the patience to scratch beyond the surface and get to know the real you. This is the approach I've adopted and hope it helps. Cheers mate. |
baby124:Yes, alimony is unisex even though I'd still like to point out that men are mostly the victims. I'm totally against the practice of alimony payments regardless of who's the benefactor and the victim. Everyone should have complete possession of their wealth and no one should shortchange another for what they never owned or worked for. The issue of kids welfare is entirely different and only an irresponsible fellow would grudge and shy away from contributing to their child livelihood. It's also worthy to point out that no amount of child support would gulp such figure as alimony defrayals usually are. And a father can challenge the expenditure of their kids and seek for accountability in a tribunal if they think the sum is overboard. I've no issue settling an ex partner after a marital break down if I feel I'm better off but that would be on personal volition not through court orders and coercion. |
baby124:I'd skip the snide remarks but let's address the emboldened, shall we?. Why should I take up the responsibility to resettle her and for what reason exactly? Are you people admitting that women can't be self-reliant and depends on men for their conservation on the planet? Do we take it that men are more ingenious to excel than women and whose fault is it, even if that's the case. You see, no one owes anyone nada, zilch, neither is anyone a springboard to enable another to stand on their feet. So your admission of an inferior creature of women to men is neglible. Men owe you nothing. Ende. As for the kids factor, a man can see to the livelihood of his kids without involving or assisting the mother. |
Women sha. I'm flummoxed as to what gives them or anyone else for that matter a sense of entitlement to another's acquisition. So because we got married automatically qualifies and grants you the leverage to have a share in a man's self-acquired assets. The reaction from them lots here further buttresses that they're either not ready for egalitarianism or their campaign is to secure certain privileges at the detriment of the male folk. Else, I see no reason why anyone would subscribe to this selfish legislation that would see a man forfeit his wealth to a leech. When women are ready for equality, we'd talk. For now, it's all a ruse. |
Sagamite:Hmmm, hoping but not when we have pseudo feminists parading everywhere in this part of the world. Needless to mention gutless leaders and political correctness brigade who disguises under the umbrella of activism. But left for the alimony settlement factor, do you think the institution is worth given a shot? |
Sagamite:Well, safe to say the best approach is never to commit oneself to the union or if one must there should be a pre-nup arrangement as conflicting issues that could lead to the marriage breakdown is inevitable. It depends on one's level of tolerance, endurance and the quest to appease the society to view them as one 'happy' couple. But I can't live and endure life when I've a better option, to be free, independent, happy and unaccountable to anyone. Makes no sense. |
Sagamite:Quite so. Which makes it draconian and autocratic and reaps one of their right to choices/decisions. Do as I say or get penalised, stay put in the marriage no matter how unhappy you are (that's if there's any such thing as a happy marriage) or get the sharp end of the rod. Very undemocratic and an affront to right to freewill. Marriage doesn't benefit anyone, not more than cohab couple who didn't perform the ceremonial signing of sheets. It's all a facade and a shadowy display of pretense fuelled by religion. |
Bastard? A fanciful term cloned to further promote and enforce the marital institution. A conspiracy to promulgate and make mankind become more apprehensive about 'unceremoniously conceived' kids thereby signing a piece of paper, termed marriage cert. Doesn't fly anymore in today's world, people are continually being awaken to the falsehood called marriage and the various scheme designed to cajole them to take a leap. If I have a child and own up to his/her responsibility and their welfare doesn't make them a bastard. The society or anyone can label them what they want but doesn't make any difference. I don't have to conform to society propagated Abrahamic necromantic doctrines which is illusory. |
baby124:I find the emboldened irrational and devoid of critical thinking even as it is draconian. Please forgive my ignorance but on what premise should anyone forfeit their self-earned wealth to another just because they are a signatory to a ceremonial piece of paper which doesn't worth any value, more than a paper. Why should anyone be ripped off their life acquisition unjustly coz they don't want to conserve a union anymore. A union which is obsolete and doesn't deserve a place in contemporary society. |
Kimoni:Lol! This story vex me walahi but I don calm a bit now. ![]() |
Hahaha, I dey laugh o, like Baba Sege. A fool and his money is easily parted. What did he expect before venturing into the state sanctioned legal enslavement christened marriage, even moreso without acceding to a pre-nup. The institution called marriage is nothing but a humbug designed to tyrannize, enthral and limit human's unflinched right to freedom, independence and social liberty. It's scripted to be lopsided on both sides and financially advantageous to women. What is more depressing is the fact that Western liberal left politicians keeps pandering to women's demand for higher alimony defrayals. The idea that one party has to forfeit a huge chunk of their hard earned wealth to another, is obdurate, cruel and despicable in all ramifications. For fvck sake a man's acquisition is theirs and shouldn't be tempered with even after a divorce. This is a clear act of banditry and must be condemned by not only the male folk but by everyone who believes in justice and fair play. After a split everyone should move on with their individual assets and the only hinged interest should be the welfare of the kids. For humanity sake, no be me born you. Whoever enacted alimony legislation must have been mentally imbalanced and a p*ssy. What a sick world we dwell in. |
ipledge10:Now you're talking, exactly the angle I've been driving at. Nothing irks me than seeing kids, who are as young as 12-15 kiss in the public. I can't really tell how it makes me feel but I so much feel angry to see such rubbish. I think most of them do it to evoke reaction from onlookers. If na that kind thing wey we go see for Naija better make PDA rot in hell, we no want. ![]() |
ipledge10:Ya, it's creepy and causes apprehension when one engages in PDA in the presence of kids, same way it is for adults when they see young teens make out in their presence. You just want to leave the scene as it's awkward to watch teens of less than 16 make out in your presence. Imagine, a young niece/nephew of yours watch you kiss your woman and ask what are you doing? How do one react to that? No, I no dey. |
To add to what TeempakGuy said which I believe sums it up, especially the hypocritical part which its undoubtably true, I think another factor is that PDA could influence kids or like we put it 'corrupt' their minds. I think there's an uneasiness and trepidation engaging in PDA when kids and young adults are around, and the last thing an average African would want is to have kids watch them cuddle up, needless to say lock lips together. This to us is capable of corrupting their minds. Whether such believe is true or not is debatable but I for one too, find it difficult to engage in PDA in the presence of kids. Perhaps, I'm still a prisoner to my African inclinations. |
hinwazaka:How can you extradite someone who's not on the run? Sowore is currently visiting Nigeria at the moment so what exactly do you mean by extradition mister? |
Eziachi:Spot on. The truth is that Sahara Reporters are the best investigative journalist in Nigeria and those guys are fearless so Dino Melaye is a little fry to them. The load of information SR has in their file can nail him and his political career. Fact is, every politician in Nigeria is hell scared at the mention of SR and they'd do all they can to muzzle them. Every successive governments made attempt to silence them from operation but none could. All they do is to threaten them of law suits which they never were bold enough to litigate. One lawyer Egwuonwu or there about was the first to sue SR in the US for defamation, the evidence they provided in the court was shellacking and landed him in the gulag. Where's Obanikoro, Tinubu, OBJ, GEJ, Saraki threat of law suits till date? Nada. They knew the alleged defamation stories were authentic hence never initiated a case. Even Abacha tried to silence Sowore when he was a student activist in Unilag but couldn't. SR is here to stay as they are the voice of the impoverished masses. |
princeshijman:The emboldened lies the problem. She's aware she has broken the trust you both had by lying about her ex boyfriends and therefore see no future with you. She wanted to be seen as reserve and one with praiseworthy values and since her little secrets have been exposed then there's nothing to settle for in the affair anymore. I don't know how you'd detach yourself from her swiftly but you can do so gradually. Perhaps by getting yourself another babe or better still overlook her past and flaws and accept her for who she is while reassuring her of your love and commitment regardless of her past. You can make her return to her real self prior to her 'dirty' secret exposure. |
misspicy:Lol. Guys be feeling their girlfriend(s) should be 'clean' and untouched while at same time they bang the next available girl. What then becomes of the girls they've banged and what does she tell the next guy who expects her to be 'clean' as well. Hypocrisy I tell ya. |
Why do you want to quit? Coz of her body count and abortion? How certain are you the next girl you'd find hasn't had worse body counts and D&C? No be by who fvck holy/worse pass o. I understand you feel cheated by her lies but the question wasn't necessary in the first place. What's the point asking a woman if she has had abortion and how many men she had laid with in the first place when it's obvious they'd lie. |
