n3xt: Do you know most welder run away from these designs because of what it takes (time and materials) to achieve them.
Those little pieces are what makes wrought iron works unique and expensive
_____ I was working on a gate last week. The time it took to bend 20 lengths of 14mm square rod into a perfect circle (Pic 3 below) was almost 2 days. It’s a time consuming work. Here in Lagos and some part of Southwest I know very well you don’t need to waste much time to bend wrought iron into your desire shape just work to OWODE mile 12 area to get it ( that is if you are in Lagos or ogun and Ibadan) there others places too to get such. Some guys/ old men there are specialized Only on wrought iron designs work. Just give them the design they will bring out the shape for you then your welder man will do the rest. Shikena |

Focusmind: I always comment whenever what I like is mentioned. That chrome is a no go area for me. We should be creative with other things apart from the usual ones being used or done. The staircase design here is dope.
If wrought iron proves expensive to be used for my staircase, I use hard wood. Chrome or any shiny metal is a no go area. Menn, the likeness I have for rough iron now is 70/30 to stainless. Stainless will still be outdated in few yrs to come YES, just watch out. Look at this simple one we did here both railing and as burglar bars

n3xt: Why?
If the reason is to save cost, I think the savings is not worth the huge sacrifice. It’s like compromising on what should be quality upfront.
- 9in blocks are more stable than 6in blocks (bending) - Better sound insulation - Easier conduit - Better support for vertical loads - You can build 9in blocks faster than 6in blocks
If you consider the additional cost of building “Frame Structure”, then 9in blocks is far cheaper and more reliable than using 6in. You will not die young OGA |

Godisgreatest1: I thank you all for your responses. I enquired about the size of blocks because I noticed that in architectural drawings, there are 'tiny' numbers (300, 225 and 150) in partitions or between rooms. So I only thought that using 150 represents 6" which may use up less land space.
So if 9" blocks are used for 8 partitions it means 300x8=2400 space used, but for 6" it will be 150x8=1800 space added to the building size. 2400-1800=600 worth of space. If the 600 is in mm, that is approximately 2ft difference between both blocks. I believed NOBODY will choose SPACE above STABILITY After all the professionals advise, the ball is now in your court to decide |

Aventures: It isn't misconception that some foundation can cost as much as 10m or far more. I have witnessed several of such. We had a project recently in Ikate the client is a UK trained and a professional builder and been practicing in Nigeria for years I only provided structural supervision the project fdn is yet to be completed and I can tell you that the project has consumed far.more than 10m. The builder bought all materials by himself and managed judiciously. My point is this , some project may be located in areas that can bring about high fdn cost for so many reasons while some people get them selves in such location ignorantly. My advice is this, always consider your budget before choosing a land to buy not budgeting after buying a land. (Your budgeting from start to finish must include land and location choice) , therefore before buying land do engage professional that has good knowledge of the type of foundation that land of your choice may require. I just did a trip outside my base to do such for a client. It pays off. Bravo |
