Cultism In Nigeria
By Adedayo Babatunde - 1 year on February 14, 2019
Cultism

Cultism is a system or practice of a cult. Cult on the other hand is a group of people with a religious philosophical or cultural identity sometimes viewed as a sect, often existing on the margins of society or exploitative towards its members.

Cultism Popularly called in the neighbourhood as Secret Cult can be said to be an organisation of which people come together to pledge their allegiances under an oath and have a social bond of commitment and dedication for the good of the organisation.

This set of people carry out their meetings when people are not aware of, especially during the odd hours (Midnight) and far away from residence (in the bush most often time). This individuals keep their activities secret from non-members and people in the society.

History Of Cultism In Nigeria
Say No To Cultism In Nigeria

The history of cultism can be traced back to 1952 when the Nobel Laurel Price Winner, Professor Oluwole Akinwande Soyinka and six others formed the ‘Pyrate Confraternity’ (a.k.a See Dogs).

At that time various school of thought are developed, surrounding the actual aim and objective of founding the cult group. The pioneer and its members said it is a platform for the fight of human right and justice (activism) and it is void of evil.

After some years, various other cult groups emerged such as , Jezebel Daughters, Black Eye, Black Beret, Black Bra, Supreme Eiye, Vikings, Aro Mates, Buccaneers amongst others whose activities suggest nothing but evil in the society.

These cults groups share some features in common which are initiation of new members, ritual practices, oaths taking, inscription of marks on their bodies, use of sign, symbols and colours.

Their activities involves frequent violent clash among different cults groups which always lead to death or end in casualties, constant abuse of drugs, armed rubbery, sexual assault, vandalization, forceful intimidation of lecturers, examination malpractices, harassment and bullying of fellow course mate, assassination to mention a few.

Cultism is so rampant in schools all over the world, it is known to be at its peak in tertiary institutions but it is no more news that it has expanded it territories to secondary schools and even primary schools as we speak.

This social vice is really eating up the moral and educational standard of the country. As a matter of fact, innocent students are being lured into the act and all other social vices.

The problems associated with cultism cannot be overemphasised, despite the effort of the government and school authorities to put an end to cultism in the country proved abortive.

Causes Of Cultism In Our Present Day Society
Cultism in Nigeria is caused by different factors and the most common causes are

Quest for power or social identity
Poor parental training
Peer pressure/peer group influence
Revenge
Emotional instability
Wealth
Loneliness
Use of cultists by politicians
Drug abuse
poverty
Search for protection
Quest For Power and Social Identity
The major causes of cultism is the quest for power and social identity among their colleagues in school. Many students becomes members of the cults because of their quest for power and authority, this is mostly common among those with the aim of fighting of fighting for their rights and other peoples rights.

Whereas, some others join cultism because they want to belong to a class or lifestyles higher to their peers. They desire to gain popularity, respect and admiration from opposite sex in an attempt to be called “big boy”or “mean chick”in the school environment.

In Nigeria universities, the main reason while people become cultists is to fight those who oppress them, wicked lecturers, school authorities and torment from other cult members.

Poor Parental Training
The present day parenthood suffers a bridge of communication and intimacy with their wards(children) and this has lead a lot of students to cultism because most parent fail to inculcate norm, moral, value and discipline to their wards.

Their is a deviation in the parenthood of this present dispensation, the pursuit of career or money had led a lot of children astray. Some in the quest of making a source of livelihood neglect their wards to lack home training.

They have forgotten that communication and closeness are inseparable factors that foster parenthood . and when such is lacking it affect the child when he/she leaves home to school, compromise become a choice of freedom and lifestyle.

When parent focuses more on their businesses and work they open doors to moral bankruptcy in the lives of their children and at the end result in child waywardness through different vices.

Peer Pressure/ peer group Influence
Pressure from peers group can make even a decent person do some awful things at times, that is why peer pressure is another major cause of cultism.Through the process of interaction influence are bound to happen which can either be positive or negative.

Influence goes a long way in changing mindset and behavioural pattern of individual most especially when the pressure is much. At the end individual involve get addicted to their influencer way of like which can be cultism, drug abuse, rapping, clubbing or gambling.

And it will be pretty difficult for the individual to break away from such circle of friends because any attempt to do that will certainly lead to threats from the cult members. And those that are lured into it end up accepting it because of fear of being killed.

Revenge
Some people who are victims of harassment, Assaults, rape, bullying, child abuse or painful past seek revenge through cultism because they believe the group will give them the platform to fleetly take their own pounds of the flesh.

They believe the team work assistance from the cult members make such mission fast and possible. Also, cultism gives members a high morale to do the unimaginable through the initiation process.

This process makes members so mean to circumstances and life seems so meaningless to them. The drugs they use make the weakling to be a brutal person within months.

Use Of Cultists By Politicians
Politicians who use cultists as thugs during campaigns and elections are part of people who are encouraging cultism in this part of the world. Some even go as far as having direct or indirect affiliation with them.

Most cult groups have government officials or politicians as their patron or patronesses who finance them for their personal dubious motives. They go as far as using cults guys as their hit men to carry out their intentions during election.

Their activities includes snatching of ballot boxes, destruction of election materials, assassination of their political opponents, intimation to the electoral officer etc. All this gives the cultist the high morale to perpetrate their evil deeds being confident they have backbones and godfathers that can always use their highly place influence to get them out of any detention or court case.

Emotional Instability
Emotion is a physiological response to a situation and it can lure someone into cultism. Individuals who face emotional challenges such as depression, melancholy, or loneliness can end up as a cultist if they find solace at the wrong place.

Most especially when someone is breakdown totally due to circumstances that threatens their happiness most often time have a high tendency to move with a particular circle of friends/course mate in a bid to be comforted and get cheered up from their present state end up falling victim of cultism. This happen mostly when their heart got broken by their boyfriends/girlfriends.

Drug Abuse
The influence of drug on young people makes them threw away their conscience to the wind. Often than not individuals who constantly crave for drugs connect with other addicts on a daily basis where they get supply of the drugs.

At times they associated with cultist directly or indirectly at the hideout where they usually buy and sell the drugs substances. Through this medium of association an individual can be lured into cultism because those places are highly vulnerable for cultism initiation.

Loneliness
Just like depression finds solace in adventures so also loneliness aid in the company of friends. Friendship have great influence over each other and in such situation they literally protects and look out for them and such feelings gives the individual the comfort and ease through interaction from members of the cult groups

In no time the individual get involved in drugs, gambling, alcohol, partying and sexual adventures thereby finding a sense of peace and happiness.

Poverty
Poverty place a great role in cultism because many people are lured into this vices due to financial hardship. In their quest for help and assistance they fall victim of cultism members who offered them help in a bid to entice them into their social group.

Wealth
Some youth are found in this cultism group so as to become known, dreaded and wealthy. The cult members are believed to have influential sponsors and have a lot of money, this myths led a lots of students into this societal ills because they want to be counted among rich individuals in the society and it also give them the avenue to meet wealthy people in the society.

Search for Protection
One of the features of cultism id that members are brother’s keeper to each other. many people join cultism in search of protection from harm or any form of harassement or intimidation.

The sense of security offered to the members gives them boldness and confidence against any threats in any form. Such sense of protection can lead to arrogance in the members. They are constantly conscious of the backup available to them in case of any emergency.

Low Self-Esteem
The quest to find a way to express oneself could lead a student with low self-esteem to join cult group to feel important. Cultism offers a fertile ground for such students to find ugly confidence in violence and dastardly acts.

The Effect Of Cultism In Nigeria
Nigeria as a nation has greatly suffered the negative effects of cultism. The split-tribal culture made it a ‘join us or die’ thing. The various groups and their strife for dominance is the big deal. These effects includes:

Death
The death of young people this days is so alarming due to cultism practices by students and non student (thugs, touts, deviants individuals) Little issues that need settlements end up triggering a lot of calamities in the society. They even go as far as killing themselves over a mere issues like girlfriends and the likes.

High Increase In Student Dropout
Cultism has propelled high increase on drop out students. In Nigerian the major cause of student drop out is usually link to cultism. Although it not in all cases because there are several reasons for which a student may be expelled or suspended from school.

Thuggery
Politicians and government officials usually recruits young people that have tendency of been a thug to assist them in their political affairs during elections and campaigns. Even the religious leaders go as far as using them as body guards which in turn make them misbehave in the society basing their life on the survival of the fittest which will definitely increase insanity in the country.

Theft and Robbery’s
Theft and robbery is one of the major effect of cultism because this set of individuals go out as a group to do notorious activities as ordered by their toppers (i.e their Captain, Capon,Don etc) which is mostly in the night. They usually give them assignment to carry out which can either be robbery, kidnap, assassination, rape, car snatching or bather which need to be carry out within a stipulated period of time.

Suggested Solution To Cultism In Nigeria
Cultism if not tackled, will continue to eat down into every of the society with more effects on individuals, families, schools, religious setting and the society at large. The following are the suggested solution to cultism in the country.

Public Campaign Against Cultism
If government, schools, religious gathering, parents and non-governmental organization can organise workshops, lectures, talks, seminars and campaigns on the dangers associated with cultism all over schools without leaving out the primary schools, i think it will help in curbing this social menace faced by everyone in the society

2. Discipline
There is this popular saying that goes thus “charity begins at home” if parent should enforce discipline in their wards or inculcate the necessary morals and values in their children i think if this menace is not curb totally, it will be reduced to a controllable manner.

Imperatively, Parent should endeavours to visits their children in their respective schools and also monitors who their children associate with in the school environment. Most importantly parent should also be an exemplary features to their wards by desisting from secret organizations and live a life worth emulating.

Also, school authorities should have high standard discipline with stringent punishments for cultist caught in the school premises or outside the four walls of the school.

3. Government Standard
If the government can put into law the punishment due for anybody grasp with anything that has to do with cultism or racism, it thinks it will go a long way in curbing this social vices. However, the political leaders supporting them should also be put to judgment because they are damaging the lives of other children to make theirs better, this should not be tolerated if truly we want to curb or eradicate this menace in our society.

It is not only by decreeing it, it will be better for the parliament to also pass it into law through the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution that anyone guilty of cultism will be sentenced to this particular year of imprisonment without penalty or fines.

With all the solutions listed above, if well adhere to it will surely eradicate cultism to a manageable level instead of the continuous escalation of cultism we are hearing all over our community.

The school is ABSU it happened after Show Guys fell BF's Iroko, if you were still within that area during that period there were also series of reprisals that hit top men from both sides. The Army had to step in at that point to curtail the violence.
Word as most cultists won't tell you the Wars they lost and their members that got killed by rivals but will only tell you what make them look superior or invincible. undecided

This is what most people especially the young ones don't understand as several hits go on without them been reported or mentioned; Even the press is compromised even NL.

They will mention one group and not the other, sometimes they won't even mention their names and they even change their names.

I read about BF and BC clash where 3 got killed but never read about the reprisals; Some will hear or see the initial hits and start runing to going one frat or another not knowing that death May be smiling at them and saying, see MUMU wey take petrol rub body come sit down near fire.

I hope the young ones know that Cultism ain't worth it as several promising people have been lost by all sides to Cultism.

Are you sure you don't like cultism?
I've read some of your comments here and I find 1 or 2 questionable.

If we are saying no to cultism, let us say it on all fronts.

My opinion and observation, so don't be offended.

My comments is based on reality and it's to try to make sure the young ones are not carried away with all these hyping of cult groups because the higher the number of cult groups operating in an environment, then higher the probability of death or getting maimed.

However, please do note that i'm not offended because people's interpretation of comments made by others are sometimes incorrect.

Turkey, Russia agree against military solution in Libya
Countries to continue joint efforts, encouraging Libyan parties to create conditions for 'lasting, sustainable' cease-fire

Turkey, Russia agree against military solution in Libya

ANKARA

Turkey on Wednesday announced that it agreed with Russia that the Libyan conflict would not be resolved through military means and that it could only be settled through a UN-facilitated, Libyan-led-and-owned political process.

In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the two countries would continue joint efforts, including encouraging the Libyan sides to the conflict, to create "conditions for a lasting and sustainable ceasefire."

The ministry said that in high-level consultations, Ankara and Moscow agreed to facilitate the "advancement of the intra-Libyan political dialogue" in line with the 2020 Berlin Conference on Libya and in coordination with the UN.

In January, a conference took place in the German capital Berlin in order to start a political process and reach a permanent cease-fire in Libya. Global powers and regional actors expressed commitment to support a cease-fire, respect arms embargo and support the UN-facilitated political process.

The two countries will call on the Libyan parties to take measures for the "safe humanitarian access and delivery of urgent assistance to all those in need" and will "consider" creating a Joint Working Group on Libya.

It added that they would convene the next round of consultations in Moscow in "the near future."

Reaffirming their "strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Libya," they underlined the necessity to "combat terrorist individuals and entities."

They also reaffirmed their determination to continue talks to achieve security and stability in the North African country and improve the humanitarian situation there.

Since the ouster of late ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, two seats of power have emerged in Libya: Haftar in eastern Libya supported mainly by Egypt and the UAE, and the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, which enjoys the UN and international recognition.

Libya's legitimate government has been under attack by Haftar’s forces since last April, and more than 1,000 people have been killed in the violence.

Haftar has the support of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Russia while the UN-recognized government is backed by Turkey.

The Libyan government has recently achieved significant victories against Haftar, pushing his forces out of Tripoli and the strategic city of Tarhuna.

Turkey Faces Pressure as Libyan Conflict Widens
By Dorian Jones
July 21, 2020 01:24 PM

ISTANBUL - The Egyptian parliament’s decision Monday to authorize the possible deployment of Egyptian troops in Libya is highlighting concerns in the region about a possible escalation of the Libyan conflict. International pressure is, meanwhile, growing on Turkey over its involvement as Ankara doubled down on its support of Libya’s Government of National Accord, fueling fears of a wider a regional war.

After a phone conversation Monday, President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al Sissi added their voices to growing international calls for a Libyan ceasefire.

"The two leaders affirmed the need for immediate de-escalation in Libya, including through a ceasefire and progress on economic and political negotiations," the White House said in a statement.

Last week the European Union also called for an end to hostilities.

The ceasefire calls come as GNA forces backed by Turkey are poised to attack the strategically important town of Sirte, which is the gateway to much of Libya's vast energy reserves.

In January, Turkey started sending military personnel to Libya in support of the Tripoli-based GNA. The GNA has been under sustained attack from forces led by Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, who has a power base in eastern Libya. Haftar's Libyan National Army has the backing of countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Russia.

The Turkish intervention turned the tide in the conflict, with Haftar forces suffering heavy losses. Alarmed by this reversal, Cairo is looking to intervene.

Widening conflict

On Monday, the Egyptian parliament voted to allow President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to order Egyptian military intervention in Libya.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Friday pledged "never to abandon the Libyan people," claiming a new agreement deepening cooperation with Tripoli will be signed soon.

Ankara has so far not responded to Trump's call for a ceasefire. But geo analyst Yoruk Isik says Trump's intervention is unlikely to end the fighting immediately.

"Ankara will say this is wonderful. I want a ceasefire. But the Trump statement is not necessarily saying I want a ceasefire tomorrow," said Isik.

"If Trump were to call Erdogan and demand an immediate ceasefire, it would, of course, be different. But I don't think that call will happen because Turkey stopping right at this moment, means the Russians will retain the upper hand in Libya, and Washington doesn't want a ceasefire with the Russians fully settling in Libya."

Moscow officially denies militarily supporting Haftar, but a UN report in May said approximately 1,200 Russian mercenaries with the Wagner Group were backing the Libyan warlord. The Wagner Group is a private security force run by Yevgeny Prigozhin; a businessman reported to have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Since the end of World War Two, Russia has sought to put Libya under its sphere of influence. Currently, observers say Moscow seeks new naval bases beyond Syria in the Mediterranean.

"Turkey wants to control the Sirte region and then Ankara will agree to a ceasefire, probably the Russians are not happy about that," said Ilhan Uzgel, a political analyst.

Cairo’s moves to intervene are a complicating factor.

"I think given how big the Egyptian army is, and it's the advantageous geographical position [bordering Libya] they [Ankara] should be worried," said Isik.

"But militarily Ankara is aware Egypt is seven months late to take this military threat position. If they took this decision before the Turkish operations started, this threat would be credible. But Turkey is already established in Tripoli; they are applying final touches to turn [Libya's] Al Al-Watiyah [airfield] into a full-fledged Turkish air force base. They have also almost completed a naval base in Misrata."

Isik also says Ankara is likely calculating that the Egyptian army would be wary of carrying out a significant operation deep into Libya.

"Egypt doesn't have the experience it been decades since carrying out major cross border operations, also Ankara is calculating that Cairo doesn't have the political will for such a move."

Europe

Alarmed at the prospect of seeing the Libyan civil war escalate into a regional conflict, the leaders of France, Germany, and Italy issued a thinly veiled warning to Ankara over its military backing of the GNA.

"We are ready to consider the possible use of sanctions if the breaches of the [UN Libyan Arms] embargo at sea, on land or in the air continue," read a joint statement.

Ankara is aware previous EU sanction threats rarely result in meaningful measures, given Turkey's strategic importance.

"If there are any sanctions, they would target individuals active in Libyan affairs, such as military commanders and, or businesspeople suspected of intermediating the military aid to the GNA, and not Turkey at large. Thus, they will probably be symbolic," said consultant Atilla Yesilada of Global Source Partners.

Fueling the conflict

Some European diplomats, speaking anonymously to the international media, are also voicing unease that Turkey appears to be the only country targeted for criticism for supplying arms to Libya, a concern shared by Washington, while others have been doing so as well.

"They could at least if they were serious, I think, call them out -- call out all parties in the conflict when they violate the arms embargo," David Schenker, assistant secretary for Near East Affairs at the State Department, said Thursday.

Egyptian members of parliament attend a general session in the capital Cairo, July 20, 2020.
Libya Remains Calm as Egypt's Parliament Authorizes Military Intervention
Egypt's leader Sissi and US President Trump concur on need for cease-fire in Libya in a Monday night phone call
Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Russia are all suspected of supplying arms to Haftar's forces.

Despite growing international pressure, Ankara believes it has a winning hand in Libya, calculating that no country is ready to confront the situation directly.

Analyst Uzgel warns of the dangers of overconfidence.

"There is a kind of hubris self-indulgence. Sometimes this may lead them (Turkish leaders) to make serious mistakes as they've done in the past.

My say on the above.

It is well known that Turkey, GNA and their allies did not have a free day after LNA force were pushed out of Tripoli and also withdrew from it and it surrounding areas to sirte; Turkey and GNA troops and equipment got bombed heavily by fighter jets when they tried to take sirte after warnings from Russia that Sirte is a red line.

Turkey and GNA airfield at Al Al-Watiyah was also bombed with their air defences and jamming equipment or radar destroyed.

So I can say that Turkish military capabilities are over hyped.

‘Too late to stop’: Egypt and Turkey ramp up Libya war preparations
Both sides are eager to avoid confrontation, but the escalation continues as Egypt’s parliament votes to approve military intervention

Egypt and Turkey edged closer to the possibility of armed conflict this week over Libya, with both sides preparing for an impending battle over a key city.

Egypt’s obsequious parliament voted unanimously behind closed doors late on Monday to authorise president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s proposed military intervention in support of renegade Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar. Mr Sisi on Monday reportedly spoke with US president Donald Trump in a likely attempt to get Washington to convince Ankara to stand down.

Meanwhile, Turkey and its Libyan allies of the internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) positioned heavy weaponry and fighters along the battlefront near the city of Sirte, the central Libyan city that is the gateway to the country’s crucial eastern oil infrastructure.

Libya was plunged into conflict following the toppling of longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 in a Nato-backed war. Mr Haftar’s Libyan Arab Armed Forces and the GNA and its antecedents have been battling for control of the country for more than six years.

The battle over Sirte, the hometown of Gaddafi, is also shaping up as a confrontation between two axis in the Middle East. On the one side are the authoritarian regimes of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, backed by Russia and France, who support Hafar’s Libyan Armed Armed Forces. On the other are populist Islamist-leaning governments in Turkey, Qatar and Libya’s Tripoli.

Egypt’s military threats suggest Trump could face a disaster in Libya
Mr Haftar was winning the war until Turkey forcefully intervened earlier this year, turning the tide of the conflict with its sophisticated domestically-made surveillance and combat drones, air defence systems, and Nato-calibre battle planning.

On Monday, Qatar’s defence minister Khalid bin Mohammad al Attiyah, Turkish defence minister Hulusi Akar and Libyan interior minister Fathi Bashagha conferred in Ankara over the impending conflict. Turkey has been flooding Libya with weapons, flying transport planes to the recently captured al-Watiya airbase to avoid French attempts to intercept its ships at sea.

“It’s not like anything I have ever seen in my lifetime,” said Yoruk Isik, an open source intelligence analyst who closely monitors Turkish ship and plane movements. “This is probably the limit that our planes can travel. It’s not executed just well, it’s executed exceptionally well.”

Nato continues to ‘turn a blind eye’ to Turkish arms to Libya
Video footage posted on the internet showed convoys of trucks full of GNA fighters from nearby Misrata and other cities heading to Abugrein, which lies about 90 minutes from Sirte. Turkish media reported the deployment of T-122 Sakarya multiple rocket launchers and Korkut anti-aircraft systems outside Sirte.

Egypt faces a more formidable logistical challenge. Its eastern border lies a long day’s drive from the city. Its longer range fighter jets would have limited utility without close air support for ground troops.

Libya’s eastern-based parliament, which is under Mr Haftar’s sway, welcomed the potential Egyptian intervention. But Mr Sisi has strongly hinted that the threat of Egyptian military intervention was meant to deter a Turkish-backed incursion into Sirte and the southern city of Jufra, another flashpoint in the confrontation.

“I don’t think that Egypt will go for war,” said Karim Salem, a Libya expert at the Cairo Centre for Human Rights Studies, a Geneva-based advocacy organisation. “Even if they enter the east, they will not go for confrontation. For now, it’s a way to push from both sides that Sirte and Jufra be empty of military presence.”

The threat of military confrontation has prompted international players to refocus efforts on Libya. On Saturday, Germany, France and Italy issued a statement vowing to enforce a longstanding UN arms embargo on Libya that is now openly flouted by all sides.

“No one wants to see an escalation in Libya,” Mirette Mabrouk, a scholar at the Middle East Institute in Washington, wrote in a note on Monday. “The threat of spiralling violence, with the capacity to turn into another fully fledged proxy war, might be just the spur to political settlement that was needed.”

But forces loyal to the GNA have said repeatedly that they are poised to enter Sirte, with senior officials publicly stating that they are only awaiting the go-ahead from Turkey. Officials in Ankara have been negotiating with Moscow for a withdrawal of suspected Russian mercenaries deployed to both Sirte and Jufra, but the talks appear to have reached a stalemate.

Mr Isik called the Sirte operation “inevitable,” driven as much by Turkey’s domestic political calculations as what’s happening on the ground in Libya. The city is the last major urban outpost before Libya’s “oil crescent”, which includes refineries, storage facilities and export terminals in Ras Lanuf, Brega and al-Sidr.

“They’re going to take the opportunity in Sirte,” he said. “Maybe they will figure out some bizarre arrangement with the Russians. But they’re going to take [Haftar] out. The process has already started and it’s too late to stop it.”

To me Turkey and GNA propaganda will fail in Libya and their military, militia and extremist will be badly beaten if Russia stand her ground by forcefully supporting LNA with weapons and military know how and allowing Egyptian military to enter Libya to confront Turkey who have been deploying thousand of troops as well as militia groups and extremist with equipment in large numbers since January to back GNA in it fight with LNA.

Turkey have been poking her nose into Nagorno - Karabakh, Cyprus, Greese,Crimean Peninsula, Ukraine, Syria, Syria idlib, Iraq against the kurds, the Mediterranean sea and now Libya.

It may end in total defeat for Turkey and GNA if Turkey push too much.

Na Some of what Neddstark put out are not true!!

Though I don't support Cultism but what he put out is not the reality on ground.

Let me ask and put out reality

Is Edo and delta no longer part of SS?

The North North Central is not also correct as here are the North Central States- Benue, FCT, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau. North East - Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe. North West - Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa,, Zamfara.

If Benue yes but not really outside Benue or is he using Benue to generalise North Central?

Delta state is between Aiye, Eiye, Vickings and now Maphite.

Cross River is between KK, Vickings and Aiye

North Central is mainly between Aiye, Eiye and Buccaneer but kogi is between Eiye, Vickings and of recent Aiye.

Rivers and Bayelsa is between KK and Vicking (Mainly their street branches)

Let me resist the urge to explain as I don't like Cultism for anything.

I don't believe listening to a song make you do something you don't wanna do though I do believe it can make you execute a preconceived thought.
Violent Music Lyrics Increase Aggressive Thoughts and Feelings, According to New Study
Even humorous violent songs increase hostile feelings

WASHINGTON - Songs with violent lyrics increase aggression related thoughts and emotions and this effect is directly related to the violence in the lyrics, according to a new study published by the American Psychological Association (APA). The findings, appearing in the May issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, contradicts popular notions of positive catharsis or venting effects of listening to angry, violent music on violent thoughts and feelings.

In a series of five experiments involving over 500 college students, researchers from Iowa State University and the Texas Department of Human Services examined the effects of seven violent songs by seven artists and eight nonviolent songs by seven artists. The students listened to the songs and were given various psychological tasks to measure aggressive thoughts and feelings. One such task involved participants classifying words that can have both aggressive and nonaggressive meanings, such as rock and stick.

To control for factors not related to the content of the lyrics, the violent and nonviolent songs were sung by the same artists and were in the same musical style in three of the experiments. In the two other experiments, the researchers tested the arousal properties of the songs to make sure the violent-lyric effects were not due to differences in arousal. Also, individual personality differences related to hostility were assessed and controlled. The study also included songs with humorous lyrics to see how humor interacted with violent song lyrics and aggressive thoughts.

Results of the five experiments show that violent songs led to more aggressive interpretations of ambiguously aggressive words, increased the relative speed with which people read aggressive vs. nonaggressive words, and increased the proportion of word fragments (such as h_t) that were filled in to make aggressive words (such as hit). The violent songs increased feelings of hostility without provocation or threat, according to the authors, and this effect was not the result of differences in musical style, specific performing artist or arousal properties of the songs. Even the humorous violent songs increased aggressive thoughts.

The violent-song increases in aggressive thoughts and feelings have implications for real world violence, according to lead researcher Craig A. Anderson, Ph.D. of Iowa State University. "Aggressive thoughts can influence perceptions of ongoing social interactions, coloring them with an aggressive tint. Such aggression-biased interpretations can, in turn, instigate a more aggressive response -verbal or physical - than would have been emitted in a nonbiased state, thus provoking an aggressive escalatory spiral of antisocial exchanges," said Dr. Anderson.

The study investigated precursors to aggression rather than aggressive behavior itself. More research is needed, say the authors, to identify the short-term and long-term effects of violent song lyrics. Repeated exposure to violent lyrics may contribute to the development of an aggressive personality and could indirectly create a more hostile social environment, although the authors say it is possible that the effects of violent songs may last only a fairly short time.

"One major conclusion from this and other research on violent entertainment media is that content matters," said Dr. Anderson. "This message is important for all consumers, but especially for parents of children and adolescents."

The never ending discussion about the effects or non-effects of music on a person's mind. A lot of people have weighed in on both sides. My take on this is based on experience, whatever music you constantly listen to would dominate your thoughts which is why we ALL subconsciously sing songs out loud without thinking about them.

I have found listening to Good Christian music keeps my mind on God, when I want to be reflective or think deeply or moody...I listen to Tracy Chapman. They call some of these subliminal effects. You are not consciously aware of it but deep down, it's changing you. And the lyrics in songs are really powerful.

If you choose to listen to songs that glorify killing and maiming, you can be sure it's changing you subliminally. Just because you're not aware of it doesn't make it any less so. Cult violence really skyrocketed in Nigeria because of the influence of 2pac and Biggie's rivalry in the early to mid 90s. There is one particular song 2pac sang that inspires violence even now if you listen to it.

Music can alter behavior and moods so I believe it would be wrong to say it doesn't inspire killings and maimings.
True.

Pac tracks like.

1. Bomb first
2.So many tears
3.I wonderful if heaven got a ghetto
4.Only GOD can judge me
5.2pacalypse
6.Trapped and violent
7.Soulja's story
8.Trapped and part time Murtha
9.If my homie calls
10.Hit dem up.

These are but a few.

(I Listened to lots of Pac's music and also watched a lot of his music videos/Films during my youthful days when PAC was alive )

I will say that some of his lyrics make you feel high as if something is controlling your thoughts and emotion.

In addition to the above, I could remember stories of how people got killed or injured, music equipment get damaged or destroyed and some Djs get beaten, fights breakout in clubs, Carnivals and shows; Shows also get cancelled during my higher institution days due to a particular song from R.Kelly .... (The 90s to about early 2000 was not peaceful as there were clashes everywhere)

My say is that, what you listen to and watch as a person, as well as people you mix with, play a part in your life and that's why studying the word of God the Bible is better if you do so genuinely; that's if you're a Christian or someone who want to know more.

There is no gain in Cultism so Let keep Saying #NO TO CULTISM, NO TO BLOODSHED, NO TO VIOLENCE AND NO TO ANYTHING THAT PROMOTE OR INSTIGATE VIOLENCE.

(Reuters) - Russia has approved a new antiviral drug, Coronavir, to treat COVID-19 patients, its developer R-Pharm said on Wednesday, as Russia's tally of infections hit 700,000.

It said a clinical trial involving mild or medium-level cases had shown the drug to be highly effective in inhibiting replication of the new coronavirus.

"Coronavir is one of the first drugs in Russia and in the world that does not tackle the complications caused by SARS-CoV-2, but battles the virus itself," the company's statement said.

It said a clinical study showed improvement in 55% of outpatient cases on the seventh day of treatment with Coronavir, against 20% of those with standard etiotropic therapy - meaning treatment of cause rather than symptoms. R-Pharm said there was also a significant difference at 14 days.

By the fifth day of treatment, the novel coronavirus had been eliminated in 77.5% of patients who took the drug, R-Pharm said.

"Global clinical practice and the clinical study we conducted have confirmed that Coronavir puts a much more rapid stop to the infection as a result of its effective obstruction of the virus's replication," Mikhail Samsonov, R-Pharm's medical director, was cited as saying.

Testing began in late May and over 110 outpatients have now received the treatment, the head of clinical trials at Russia's Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, Tatyana Ryzhentsova, was cited as saying.

The drug is the third registered in Russia to treat the new coronavirus. The first, Avifavir, has been given to patients since June 11.

The health ministry gave its approval for Avifavir's use under an accelerated process while clinical trials, held over a shorter period and with fewer people than in many other countries, were still under way.

In a statement on Wednesday, Russia's RDIF sovereign wealth fund, which provided financial backing for Avifavir, said it had asked the ministry to approve the drug for use by patients treating COVID-19 at home.

It said second- and third-phase clinical trials, as well as data from the first month of hospital use, had demonstrated positive results when Avifavir was used in the early and middle stages of the illness.

Russia's official nationwide case tally stood at 700,792 as of Wednesday, with 10,667 deaths.

Chilling confessions of cultists Chilling confessions of cultistsSuspect
By Evelyn Usman
It was a harvest of the arrest of over 400 criminal suspects that have been terrorising Lagos State. Among them were robbery suspects, suspected kidnappers, self-confessed fraudsters, traffic robbers and cultists who confessed to belonging to different confraternities.

Cult activities
In Lagos State, one of the security challenges confronting the Police is the activities of cultists. There is no area in the state that does not have at least four different confraternities.

These have been discovered to be responsible for most robberies in the state. Their activities have assumed a worrisome dimension, owing to constant cult clashes during which they brandish dangerous weapons such as guns, axes, cutlasses and broken bottles.

Most times they loot shops and dispossess innocent residents of cash and other valuables during clashes.

Though many of them have been sent to early graves, during such clashes, while others sustained indelible scars, yet, their reign of terror in communities they live have remained unabated.

For instance, Low Cost Housing estate, Oke-Afa, in Isolo area of Lagos, popularly known as Jakande estate, has been bedeviled by activities of cultists in recent times.

At a point, certain areas in the estate were avoided by residents, especially at night, owing to fear of possible attacks by warring rival cult groups. One of the fearful spots is the estate’s field, by the secondary school, where some of these cultists and other criminal elements hang out to smoke Indian hemp.

There had been reported cases of rape, attack on passersby, and killing rival cultists at that spot. Some time ago, a man who was returning from a restaurant where he had gone to hand out with friends was shot dead and his car snatched in the process.

Residents said at a time the open field was fenced in order for criminal elements to hide atrocities committed behind the walls. But the fence was demolished by government officials during the demolition of illegal structures.

Investigation revealed that the latest clash in the estate was between the Aiye and Eiye confraternities, which left at least four persons dead, many injured, while others who managed to escape, are still in hiding till date.

Since the last fight in March 2020, the Lagos State Police Command has been on the trail of some key cultists alleged to have taken part in the clash and previous ones.

Its efforts have yielded positive results following the arrest of some fleeing suspects.

To the amazement of all, one of the suspects, Segun Olorunwa, disclosed that he was one of the hitmen of Eiye confraternity in the estate. But his frail body frame would never have given him away as one who could perpetuate the devilish act he admitted culpability.

I killed four Aiye members
Olorunwa, who was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the command, revealed how he killed three members of rival Aiye cult group in Jakande estate and another at Ikorodu.

According to him: “I live in Jakande Estate, Junction bus-stop and I belong to Eiye confraternity. So far, I have killed four rival cultists, all Aiye members.

“Three were killed at Jakande estate, while the fourth one was in Ikorodu. I killed Ijebu, Michael, and Sunday, in Jakande estate.

“Aiye members always want to oppress people. They assume they are superior to other groups. One of them, Ijebu, always threatened all of us. I killed him with a cutlass during a clash between our members. He was running for escape on that day. I chased him, caught up with him, and used cutlass on him until he died.

“For Michael, I shot him with a gun, at Isheri Osun, while I strangled Sunday to death during a separate clash. I killed the fourth person at Ikorodu”.

I am a hitman
Another suspect, Lawal Muri, who claimed he also lived in Jakande estate, said he and six others fled, after the last fight.

He revealed that seven of them from the estate were Eiye hitmen who usually hired for reprisal attacks in Ikorodu.

READ ALSO: I joined cultism to bring shame to my family, suspect narrates
Hear him: “Seven of us from Jakande estate are usually contacted to help Ikorodu boys to fight Aiye members. I have an informant in Ikorodu. Anytime there is a cult war in Ikorodu, our capon would give seven of us guns to go and bring our rivals down “.

I joined cultism to spite my grandfather
However, another suspected member of Eiye confraternity, Muiz Lawal, 21, popularly called Onishawa, who was arrested following a cult clash in the Denton area of Lagos, denied killing anyone since he joined the group. He stated that he joined cultism in 2018, to spite his grandfather, whom he accused of neglecting him.

According to him: “ I lost my father when I was younger. My mother abandoned me for another man when I was three years old. I was left with my grandfather who never believed I would amount to anything good.

“I was rusticated from United High School Ayengburen, for being the King of Boys. It was not a cult group. But we were always engaged in inter-school fights.

“My family abandoned me because they said I was its black sheep. My grandfather is the chairman of slaughters at Odo-Eran, Denton.

“I had to join cultism to spite him and bring shame to him and other members of my family for abandoning me.

“I approached my grandfather some time ago to sponsor me abroad but he refused. I am a Disc Jockey and also the slaughter of cows.

“My identity in the confraternity is Sparrow 21 colours. My position is the DOVE. We have three types of doves: Intelligence, Armoury, and Rugged.

“I am the Intelligence Dove and my duty is specifically on security. I am to inform the Capon about any untoward movements during an outing.

“Rugged Dove handles the weapons and is always in the bush, while the armoury Dove personally guards the Capon. I was arrested by Oyabo boys at Ikorodu garage”.

Murder of rival cultist in uncompleted building
Also arrested were nine members of the Eiye confraternity, in connection with the killing of a rival cultist in Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos, last month.

The video on how the rival cultist identified simply as Ahmed was bound, interrogated before he was shot dead, went viral on social media, consequent upon which the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, directed that the suspects be fished out.

One of the suspects, Francis Diamond, who was arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS of the Lagos State Police Command, reportedly mentioned names of his eight colleagues who also participated in the killing, during interrogation.

Their identities are: Olaitan Apanpa, 31; Chidi Michael 25; Eno Sunday 25; Saheed Gadebo, 23; Adepeju Azeez, 38; Samuel Ilesanmi; Omotosho Quadri, 25 and Moses Ogungbe.

Preliminary investigation according to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, revealed that one of the suspects, Apanpa, popularly called Emir/Armoured Tank, pulled the trigger that snuffed life out of the rival cultist.

How we killed him
When approached, Apanpa, told Crime Guard that “ I am the third in position in Eiye confraternity in Ikorodu. We kill rival cult members with axes and cutlasses. The cause of the lingering cult fight in Ikorodu is supremacy battle.

“Some of our members buy scraps. When they load them to go and sell in the market, rival cultists will rob them.

“During the just-concluded Ramadan fast, Aiye men killed one of our members. The deceased was running from policemen who came to raid the area and in the process, ran into the midst of members of Aiye.

“Four months after the killing, we saw one of those who participated in it, at Industrial bus-stop. We took him to an uncompleted building, shot him dead, and abandoned his body there”.

I recorded the killing
On his part, Francis Diamond disclosed that his role in the killing was to record the process with a phone.

He said, “I was a member of Eiye but left at a point. On that day, they called me to join them. When we got to the uncompleted building, they gave me a phone to record the killing process. It was meant to be sent to Aiye members. I could not say no because I was afraid they could kill me”.

These suspected cultists were alleged to be serial killers of rival cult members in Ikorodu and its environs. Gbadebo, disclosed that he single handedly killed two rival cultists at Bayekun street, Ikorodu, and five others at Ajah.

11 cultists arrested in Denton
Also in Denton area of Lagos, 11 suspected cultists were arrested in connection with a lingering cult war in the area.

During one of the fights between cult members of Feemen, Kadara, and Markets Streets, where dangerous weapons were freely used, both sides suffered fatal injuries.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS effected the arrest of the suspects identified as: Ibrahim Yahaya, 36; John Olorunwa, 23 years; Ayo Ogunshe, 17; Rilwan Fukunle, 21; Fatai Akanbi, 22; Kazeem Fatai, 23; Samuel Adeyemi, 26; Khalifa Babatunde, 27; Kehinde Oladapo, 23 and Mubarak Alate, 23.

Recovered from them were: matchets, axes, and knives. During interrogation, they attributed the incessant cult war to Supremacy battle.

Ijora Badia
Another arrest of suspected cultists was effected at Ijora Badia area of the state by SARS operatives. The suspects numbering seven, confessed to be members of the Aiye and Eiye cult groups.

They were arrested under the bridge at Ijora Badia , while spoiling for a fight. Some of them were alleged to have hijacked the situation to smash windscreens of unsuspecting motorists and robbed them of cash, phones and valuables.

Identities of the suspects were: Saheed Idris, 28; Sunday Ifelowo, 28; Adams Babatunde, 32; Akeem Ajibola, 32; Jamiu Balogun ‘, 24; years Sodiq Balogun, 22 and Muritala Ibrahim, 22.

They were also alleged to be responsible for the recent attack on the residents of Ijora and Ajegunle areas .

In addition, four other suspected members of Aiye cult group were arrested at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, while planning to launch a reprisal attack on a rival group.

Two others: were arrested at Oke-Suna area of Lagos Island wielding dangerous arms, apparently preparing to carry out an onslaught against rival group.

While other members of their group Aiye, fled on sighting the Police, the duo of Aseyemi Olarewaju, 25 and Lineman Seun, 25, were not so lucky.

A cut-to-size locally made pistol with two live cartridges according to the Police, were recovered from them.

During interrogation, they admitted being members of the Aiye, adding that they bought the gun from one Raimi with N25,000, for self defence.

Cultism records highest arrest
CP Odumosu disclosed that 195 suspects were arrested for cultism in the last one month, in Lagos . From the statistics of arrests made in the last one month, cultism ranked highest.

Odumosu, at a press conference and parade of criminal suspects at the command headquarters on Wednesday, disclosed that 420 suspects were arrested for various crimes in the state, within one month..

A breakdown of the arrest as highlighted by him, showed that 41 of them were robbery suspects, four were suspected kidnappers, while 52 were arrested for murder.

He said, within the last one-month, the Command arrested 41 armed robbery suspects and successfully foiled 28 armed robbery attempts. One armed robbery suspect died during an exchange of fire with the Police. 195 suspects were arrested for cultism.

Four suspects were arrested for kidnapping and 52 suspects were arrested for murder.

“The state recorded six cases of suicide and prevented four suicide attempts. Nineteen assorted firearms with lots of ammunition of different calibre, cutlasses, axes, other dangerous weapons, and charms were recovered. The Command also recovered six stolen vehicles under the period under review”, he stated.

old news on the subject.

Cultism is not worth anyone's life so stay away from it!

Five people were killed on Tuesday after suspected cult members unleashed hell at the Federal Housing Estate, Abesan, Ipaja, Lagos State.

The clash was said to be between members of the and Eiye confraternity.

One of the victims killed has been identified as the second-in-command of Eiye the cult group, Oluwadamilola Ajiwokewu.

According to residents of Abesan, four people were killed when Eiye members came to carry out reprisal over the death of their second-in-command.

Ajiwokewu, alias Bebe, was alleged to have been butchered by the Aiye cult group in broad day light.

Ajiwokewu was trailed to Greenland Pharmacy where he went to buy drugs along Akinyele Road in the estate.

Determined to avenge the death, his members stormed the community in search of Aiye members.

The Eiye group zeroed in on four Aiye members and gunned them down on Saturday, bringing the pile of corpses to five.

The corpses of the Aiye cults members were said to have being evacuated by policemen from Gowon Estate and moved to a public mortuary.

When our correspondent visited the estate, there was still apprehension on the faces of some residents.

A resident who identified himself simply as Idowu said: “On October 25, this community was like a war zone. Some Aiye members stormed the estate on five motorcyclists and started shooting sporadically before they went after their targets.

‘Immediately Oluwadamilola saw the rival cult group, he took to his heel. They chased and caught up with him; they butchered him at the spot. Since then, we have been living in fear.

‘On Saturday, information filtered out that some Aiye cult members’ corpses littered the estate. We urged policemen to double their patrol in the community because we cannot sleep with our eyes close.”

A motor mechanic, who identified himself as John Alabi, said that the clash threw everyone in the estate into a panic and confusion.

Alabi said: “We’re seriously living in danger. Whenever cultists fight, it doesn’t end. Policemen should wade in and arrest the situation because we don’t want to fall victim of stray bullets.”

When New Telegraph contacted the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, via text message to confirm the incident, she did not reply.

She was also called, but she didn’t pick her call.

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of 185 suspected cultists, whose activities have been creating panic and threatening the safety of residents of the Ikorodu area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspects were arrested following the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu’s deployment of personnel from the command’s tactical unit in the Ikorodu, Ipakodo, Igbogbo, Ibeshe, Shagamu Road and Agbowa areas, among others.

He stated that eight locally-made pistols were recovered from the cultists, adding that all the 185 suspects would be charged.

Elkana stated, “Rival cults, especially in Ikorodu, have in the last few weeks engaged themselves in a supremacy battle with resultant deaths on both sides. The CP, Hakeem Odumosu, gave operatives of the Special Strike Force clear instructions to reclaim and dominate the public spaces and ensure that no cult or gang operates in any part of the state.

“The personnel have so far arrested 185 notorious cultists and recovered eight locally-made pistols and other weapons from them. The suspects confessed to belonging to the Eiye, Aiye, KK, Buccaneers and Vikings confraternities, among others.

“One Gbadamosi Mohammed, 30, suspected to be among the cultists, who killed one Madariola Sunday, at Ibeshe on May 21, 2020, was among the suspects arrested. Also arrested are Onibudo Afeex, Habeeb Isa, Felix Igwoke and Taiwo Iyanu on Femi Taiwo Street, Ikorodu. They were arrested in an uncompleted building holding a cult meeting.

“One Adeoye Daya, 25, a hitman for the Aiye Confraternity, was arrested at the Ikorodu Garage with one locally-made short gun and rounds of live cartridges. One Shodeinde Tosin, a hitman for the Eiye Confraternity in Igbogbo was also arrested with a locally-made short gun. The operations will be sustained in all parts of the state until the criminal gangs are defeated. The suspects will be charged.”

In another development, a woman, Joy Asoya, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her neighbour, Favour Tochukwu, in the Bariga area of the state.
