It's a common thing in Africa to expose widows to all sorts of dehumanising conditions all in the name of compulsory traditional rites before and after the burial of their husbands. Sometimes women are made to shave their hairs; sometimes they are made to sleep in the same room with the dead. some are forced to drink water used in bathing the corpse, etc. Truly, of what significance are these rites? When I lost my dad some years back, I insisted that my mum would not go through any dehumanising treatment even when they said she had to stay in a room for 3months with the same clothes on, I BLUNTLY REFUSED. One week after the burial, I told my family members that I was taking my mum back to Lagos. They thought I was joking! But at the end of the day, I took her and my siblings back to Lagos. It was really painful, because people who never cared how the family was survived now wanted to play Lord because the breadwinner was no more. My mum just couldn't thank me enough. Let me have your views on this stone-age/barbaric tradition. |
Nwoke, How could you say the problem is with low tariff when NEPA is virtually producing nothing and reaping us off! In most areas, they don't read the meter in order to charge consumers appropriately. They just decide on any figure, only God knows how they do it! Even if they don't supply electricity for 2 weeks, their bills never reduce to reflect the period when they didn't perform. They continue to cheat, reap us off, all because their is a law protecting them from litigation just like the Rail Corporation. That's why they are both in the same comatose situation! When OBJ became president, his government pumped billions into into NEPA, years after, there's still no improvement and nobody has come to tell us what happened to the billions. Let NEPA increase its output to a significant level first before we start talking of tariff increase! Ain't it shameful, almost 8 years now and NEPA's output has been between 2500 megawatts and 4000megawatts. You won't believe this, my company has been running on generator 24/7 for more than 6years! Why? because NEPA ain't reliable! Imagine an electricity current that it barely enough to light a flourescent bulb. The UPS shutting down most times because they were not fully charged. People getting trapped in the elevators now and then. Equipment getting destroyed by erratic current. Let NEPA perform as expected and people will sit up. Let me tell you something Nwoke, when electricity supply becomes regular/permanent and the NEPA staff take meter reading as at when due bills will increase. For those who leave all sorts of equipment on when going out or when they don't need them, they would adjust. |
I can't explain the reason why! It's a strong feeling that she's the best in the world! |
My shout-out goes to my late hommie Christian Madagwa Gone with the wind Ghastly bike accident left 2 kids and a young wife behind Gone with the wind they crave, they call: daddy daddy daddy tries to answer but his calls are gone with the wind Rest in peace dear friend About 25years of friendship gone with the wind |
moyoF:You have said it all: "I THINK SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG WITH ME" WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? Just be prepared for the shit that will hit the ceiling fan when you guy discovers. I trust that by then, his friend would have had a piece of the action. ![]() |
We deceive ourselves a lot. WE CAN'T ALL BE RICH IN THIS WORLD! Even in the bible days, some were rich while some were poor. Some were masters while some were slaves. We have more of orators than preachers these days. Respect goes to the richest man in church. In some churches some seats have been reserved for the special members. In my church, a very wealthy member comes into the church with armed bodyguards. Nobody dare take their reserved seats. The members had to fight before the bodyguards were stopped from bringing guns into the church. The truth of the matter is that the church services go to the highest bidder. If you are a poor man, junior members of the church hierarchy will attend your child's dedication ceremony while the Senior pastor to the millionaires functions. We just shouldn't bother our heads about certain things cos THAT'S LIFE! ![]() |
Nwoke:How do we move forward pragmatically? When we have visionless people at the helms of affairs! We need the past to move forward positively! Take the Niger Delta issue for instance. How do we move forward pragmatically without going back to the past to ascertain the point of derailment. Go to South Africa. The SA is what it is today because the whites. If a black man at being at the helms of affairs there, South Africa would have been worst off than Nigeria. The Zimbabwe that Mugabe inherited is in shambles today. What is the cause? Colonialism? NO! Visionless leadership. Mugabe was better as a freedom fighter than as a Head of state. If you hand over 20million Naira in cash to some people today, check them out in 10 years time, they will be poorer than they were before the grant came. A visionless man is a disaster waiting to happen. That is the problem Naija and other African countries are having today. |
I love travelling by road in my car. I do it alone most times. Drive from Port Harcourt to Lagos on a Saturday and return next day. It's stressful but I enjoy it. Encountered all sorts on the way. |
The way some people interprete the word LOVE is really sickening. There are certain laid down standards in life that help in establishing a society. When we start tampering with these standards then we are destroying the very frabic of the society. One day, some people are going to ask their husbands to get pregnant for them. There are some certain things I will never do if it's a requirement to prove my love. Too me it's like the devil tempting Jesus by asking him to jump if he's truly the son of God. It was pure temptation. The devil himself knew that Jesus is the true son of God. Any day my wife begins to doubt my love and ask me to fulfil certain conditions in order to prove it, I WILL NOT DO IT. |
Men marry because IT'S THE NEXT LEVEL IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP! Just look at it this way:
[li]You meet a lady you like You try all you can to catch her attention and become her friend You eventually do, then you start 'toasting' her If she agrees, you start showering her with love You take out for lunch, dinner, shows, whatever You start scheming to go intimate, kissing, smouching, then sex Then more sex And more sex When sex becomes a routine, you then think of keeping her for you and you alone How do you do this? Take her to the alter of course. Well some impregnates, Then you get married Then the kids come Then you feel like repeating the circle again[/li] [li][/li]
You start chasing the spinsters out there It's a funny world you know. ![]() |
apasico:Yeah! Somebody please respond. I guess we wanna see some boobs ![]() |
@ MEDUBE I only cited Friday as an example. You must have attended an higher Institution or may be you are in one. Is your school devoid of such activities? Give us a frank answer but don't respond if you are in JEHOVAH WITNESS UNIVERSITY OR SHARIA SCHOOL OF THE FAITHFULS. ![]() |
medube:Even in the North, excluding the Sharia states this things happen. If you have friends in other Universities in Nigeria just call them and ask if cars don't line up in front of the female hostels mostly Fridays. Have you been to LASU on a Friday before? What about the French Village in Badagry? Talk about UNILAG? OAU nko? Even YABATECH? Check the COEs. Most female students don't pass Friday nights on campus. I guess they attend REVIVALS ![]() |
hi Maki You cool? Were you ever in Air Force Base Ikeja? |
@KAJAD I apologise for sounding angry. I guess it's in my nature cos I am like a ROTT ![]() Back to the PH business: The different towns you have mentioned (Uyo, Calabar, Benin, Asaba, Yenogoa) are quite different from PH because Port Harcourt is the only city that has a high concentration of oil & gas company workers/oil servicing company workers (talk of SHELL, TOTAL, AGIP, CHEVRONTEXACO, SCHLUMBERGER, etc). In PH the 'oil money' flows. It's only unfortunate that it flows in the midst of poverty. Do you know how many people live in the shanties (called WATERSIDE) scattered all over? You also cited Benue. Do you know that proscumuity in Benue is second to none! Where cometh my facts? My old man was in the Air Force and we have gone round the country. I have mingled with almost all tribes: the Tivs, Gwaris, Fulanis, Annang, Mbaise, Idoma, Igalla, Ibira, Hausas, Ogonis, Kalabaris, Okrikas, Ijaws, Itsekiris, Urhobos, Ikwerres, Calabars, Igbos, Buzu, etc etc. There are lots of good girls in PH if you mingle with the right people. A friend of mine got married a few weeks back to a Rivers girl. He confided in me that: she did not allow him to make love to her during courtship only for him to discover after marriage that she's a virgin! he's so thrilled by this discovery that he's crazy about her. Before I got married, I also had one that never allowed me to make love to her. We kissed, hugged, smouched BUT NO GOING DOWN! When her parents send her to the market with their driver, she would come to my house and use part of the ingredients bought to prepare soup for me before going back home. We went out for 2 years before she went to the UK for her masters. The story ended. I got married and afterwards she did same. ![]() |
@KAJAD I am a Yoruba guy and I have been in PH for more than 10 years now and I got married in PH. You have only been here some months and you are complaining. The problem with guys moving to PH or living outside is that they already have an impression and that really affects their judgement. Most times, when guys come around, due to the biased mind they come with, in order to 'explore' the city and 'confirm' their impression, they end up hanging out with guys of like-minds who take them to the wrong places in town. MOST OF THE PEOPLE YOU MEET THERE ARE NON-INDIGENES! Most of the girls that hang out at Charlies, Illusion, Bootleggers, Baracuda, Toby Jug and other nite clubs are girls from mainly the Eastern parts of the country. I am not saying there are no bad ones in PH but people misconstrue the liberal lifestyles of the south-south people for something else. We should not forget that there is abject poverty down here. Girls, girls beg you for money if they notice that you are well-to-do. Some guys who come across such people exploit them and ask for sex in return. Go to OAU, UNILAG, OSU, YABATECH and find out what happens at the girls hostels. IS IT ANY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE SEE DOWN HERE? NO. Let me enlighten you: DO YOU KNOW THAT GIRLS FROM LAGOS SPONSOR THEMSELVES TO PORT HARCOURT ON FRIDAYS IN SEACH OF OIL MONEY, LODGE IN CHEAP HOTELS, GO CLUBBING AND END UP IN PEOPLES BED? ON SUNDAY NIGHT THEY TAKE A BUS BACK TO LAGOS. DO YOU? NO! Do you know that these girls (Yorubas inclusive) spread the news when they come around. The tell their 'familiar customers' to hook them up with their friends who can pay. I have friends who organise parties regularly and they 'import' girls from outside the state, as far as Lagos. Ain't it crazy. But when people meet them, they tag them Port Harcourt guys. When they get stranded here, they do anything to get back to Lagos. A bad bachelor friend of mine once told me that he slept with two girls on the same bed for N5000. You won't believe that the 2 girls were Yoruba girls. I think we should be objective when we tag a people. Guys as you catch you fun, pray you don't catch HIV. It's everywhere. Cheers. |
Hey, you ladies don't have to fight over me. I am for you all ![]() |
They may not be as fast as what I am used to at work, but I still commend their performance. They are better than other networks around. With their dedication to service, I believe they have plans of increasing their bandwidth. Their performance in Port Harcourt is above 60% Nwoke's comment is on the harsh side, that's if he's really a customer of Starcomms. If he isn't, then I understand where he's coming from. |
From the acquisition of deadly/sophisticated arms & ammunition to hostage taking and the recent car bomb in the largest army formation in Port Harcourt. Where does all these lead us? With no genuine and proactive action by the federal government in tackling the fundamental problems in the south-south, can anyone guess the next move of the militants? |
Is it true that one of my female Rotts is a lesbian? Somebody please tell me. You never know these days ![]() |
Those who FRONT are only deceiving themselves. There's really no need to play difficult. If you don't like a guy, YOU DON'T LIKE HIM! After all the hard-to-get game, you now agree and start being your true self. It doesn't make sense. |
eveseh:I believe she's far better than many graduates in the market and off the market. She's doing very well in her chosen career using her God-given talent. |
I wonder why people allege all sorts. Human beings!!! haba!!! That was how some guys were claiming that I was a Jamaican when most people know that I am an American ![]() Alamieyesigha is also a Briton that was why they allowed him to go scot free ![]() Obasanjo is from Uganda ![]() Let's continue to laugh and catch fun, that's the only thing that is free in Naija these days. |
I guess he's a 'Nollywood Star' and he wants his fans to contact him. Please we need your GSM number too ![]() Do as you please men, it's a free world. |
I guess he's a 'Nollywood Star' and he wants his fans to contact him. Please we need your GSM number too ![]() Do as you please men, it's a free world. |
I agree her hips are real, but if you guys wanna see GENUINE HIPS, take a trip to Soweto, Jo'Burg or any ghetto in South Africa and 'UNA GO GREE'. Better still, check out Maki's hip. Port Harcourt babes are too much ![]() |
Femi Anikulapo-Kuti's marriage was allegedly broken because of love text messages that he found on his wife's phone. They were sent by a friend of his. I think it's a lovely development. The GSM will help us expose many infidelities, lies, cheats, etc because there's always a slip. |
Christino:It ain't funny. The company has an interactive page on its website where applicants can supply their data. It's better than thousands of people attaching their CVs in all sorts of unreadable formats to an email and sending. It means someone has to eventually extract the information from the Word files for insertion into a database. |
