Point taken about the stage of development of these countries, but the safety of your investment in Romania and MAFIA controlled Bulgaria is iffy to say the least. Even the EU made a formal complain to the government of Bulgaria about organized crime. Whereas in
CZ the rule of law is more establish and more difficult to get away with swindling eager foreign invests. There are still a lot of investment possibilities in CZ.
As per tourism, thank God those binge drinking British stag night group are now moving further east to the Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia!!!
Point taken but dont forget one of the conditions for ascension into the EU for BUlgaria was to sort out the 'mafia' issue. There are even more mafia issues in Russia than in Bulgaria but would you say you wont invest in Rusia if you saw an opening? Infact Russia is red-hot its just that its not my cup of tea at the moment

good point my man.
also, what makes you think wema is going to run off when its ts is lifted, i think there are more vibrant stocks , by the way did you get costain pohuhhuhhuh?
I had to buy Costain on the floor although there's no risk of monies being at least no rumours of over-subscription yetso i'm seriously sharpening my claws for that one!  Q3 results due anytime now hopefully in line with with expectation and TS is going to be lifted anytime from now so i can ride on that jet as well and eject before the additional shares are listed and see what happens for H2 in March/April

As per WEMA its one of the cheapest banking stocks out there but not sure what they are going to come up with for the share reconstruction. At least they will make sure the stock rides before going on TS for the PO and don't forget they promised to do the PO before the first quarter of this year and also they must delight us with magical Q3 results at least.

When i say cheapest i meant in terms of Price-Earning multiples which is we refer to as  P/E ratio on this forum

Historically as someone pointed out nigerian banks tend to make more money in the last 2 quarters especially Q3 abi no be so?

Just not enough time to ride on all these flying jets grin  grin grin grin grin

oh yeah i was thinking about releasing some equity on my property for Angola, I have a friend put a massive pressure on me to do it 3 years ago. I guess now they've joined EU. I guess EU will 'shield it somehow. I see another exponential growth in this area. The kind we saw in UK in the recent past.

Are you talking about Angola or Romania and Bulgaria? Bulgaria and Romania are EU members and Angola is in Africa.

Granted there is an Oil boom in Angola (at least some of us are getting our daily bread from there).
I still think the political terrain of the country is important for any investment.
Forget about the west as where ever there is oil, there is the west or will you invest in Iraq or work there now? but the west is still strong there.
why these multinationals make national investments and hence are privvy to consideration from the Godfather himself (25yrs in office), wetin u and me get.
Well sha I'm marking time and waitin (I've been waiting for sometime now).
The property market is sweet, Luanda is an expensive city, I still wonder why till 2moro.
Anyway mek we the watch but I think Dubai holds more prospects.

No wait too long o! there are openings in real-estate you can exploit.Just a question of getting in with the right crowd at least i prefer to invest $100K in Angolan real estate than MTN that would not be listed for another 3 years if what i have been told is to be believed

When it comes to real estate investment in eastern and central Europe, I think Czech and Slovak republic are leading the way and are still relatively cheap compare to western Europe.
Czech and Slovak republic real estate is more developed than in Romaina and Bulgaria remember that the Czech republic joined EU before these countries and already has been a favourite tourist destination for western europeans so its more likely the market has saturated now and probably not much room for growth bit like buying properties in spain you will probably be buying on the high-side even though it is still the number tourist destination for brits in Europe

Bulgaria and Romania present 'emerging' opportunities because they are just being recognized as tourist destinations and a lot of multinationals keen to establish their presence in Romaina and Bulgaria especially are relocating their workers and this is fuelling demand for city-center apartments in Bucharest and Sofia.

Hmmm Angola ke,
Mek una thread softly softlyoooo,
If u know anything about Angola u should know there is a royal family.
The country is owned by the president and his daugther and that guy na another Idi amin.
If he wakes up and decides otherwise on your investment, you are on your own.
I'm sure he cant be any worse than Hugo Chavez in venezuela but all those big 'boys' are still negotiating with him at the end of the day no matter how much 'shakara' mr Hugo Chavez fit make he needs the big boys as much as they need him to cooperate that the reality of the situation. If all the big boys pull out of Venezuela today will mr Hugo Chavez and his country people going to drink their oil? some how i dont think so

Its all about equity and fairness. Welcome to the world international relations where there are no permanent friends but permanent interests!

Catch my drift?

Dont know anything about the royal family but i know Edwardos Santos is no longer fighting a guerrila warfare and with its seriously new found wealth in oil and gas the guy is transforming the country into a business-friendly and market oriented economy. Do you know how many western intersts are presently on ground in the country?I'm sure those guys know what they are doing before deciding to pump millions and billions of dollars into the country

for all who are still in the queue to get PHB, looks like you will look elsewhere(if you've not taken position by now), fillers from the floor looks like it's been lifted off TS, and is already on it's way up as the top gainer.
That's because the jet that is on its way to the top gainers' chart has a booster rocket  for mid--flight acceleration and more than enough fuel.  grin grin grin grin grin

Hopefully by the time it makes a re-entry into orbit earth sometime in March/April remember the Q3 results is due then and the additional shares would have been listed i would have ejected and hopefully land safely on WEMA rocket i expect the TS to be listeddid i hear someone mutter share reconstruction? before their much awaited PO!

This is actually the time to buy houses in the USA.The down turn won't last for long. But if you are seriously considering buying homes, then I will suggest Dubai!Nothing beats Dubai.Rent in a year will take care of 40 percent of the value of the house!
I would be very cautious there unless the 'credit crunch' bottoms out before the end of Q2 and its getting more expensive to get credit now so i wouldnt necessarily advise getting into US real estate for now. I think you could look at the Eastern european countries that have just ascended into the EU especially Romania and Bulgariagot a foothold already they are relatively cheap in comparison and getting  a mortgage is now almost as in western europe you need a 30% deposit generally and furthermore the property market has been shielded from the 'credit crunch' so far and the capital appreciation is still reasonable at least compared to UK where property prices are beginning to fall and if you sell after 5 years then you don't need to pay CGT(capital gains tax). better still if you have assets you can sell you can stump up the cash you would not believe how cheap the properties are i'm talking 50-100k eurosyes i meant euros for high-quality and investment grade properties

Dubai: i suppose a case could be made for Dubai you don't have to pay stamp duty infact the whole place is tax-free but Dubai is like a building site now and loads and loads stock so i would tread caerfully

If you want to be more adventurous Angola and SA(remember world-cup 2010?)is pushing up property prices in the capetown area  are red-hot. You might want to explore.I'm particularly excited about Angola property investment and stocks sometimes feel better than you-know-what to me Did i just say that? embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

If you had asked this question before Skyebank went on TS i would have advised you to take position in this stock. Skyebank has stronger fundamentals than Fidelity so looks like the market has moved against you. it is very very difficult to shift a stock when it has gone on TS.

I'm praying for my sake there will be such a plan. The federal government owns 49% so they can afford divest some of their holding. They are getting 'heavy-weight' income tax from the venture so they dont necessarilly need to hold 49% especially if the equity is made up debt and equity instruments.

Just a thot sha its good to be in hope!

A limited company need only 2 shareholders but a PUBLIC limited company (PLC) must have more than 2. For a listed company, they are PLC's so must have more than 2 shareholders.
Just in case you misunderstood me i never said two people are needed to be shareholders in a PUBLIC. I made reference to a company limited by liability and that means a PRIVATE limited company! I did not use the word PUBLIC in amy thread relating to this discussion

Imagien a stock split followed by 4 for 1 by CHAMS, that beats any gyration/trading you may think about
As it happens i'm actually in CHAMS and i'm also in  Union Diagnostics PP if i even expend N1-2M at least i know in a few months the stocks will be listed and i can  cycle in and out or hitch a ride on the rocket grin grin grin grin grin.

My investment strategy precludes me from 'tying' down $100K for three years even if its  MTN!

I might as well wait till when the Federal government  floats their holding in the Liquefied Natural Gas Projecti will break the bank to get in! or actually buy MTN shares on the JSE where the parent company is listed!

That's what I was saying yesterday about personality and investment strategy. Some people will not be satisfied without the ups and downs that they see in the market. In which case, even if a stock offers 1000% returns, they will not be interested. That's why strategy must fit the personality.
If there are no ups and downs and gyrations left right and center how am i supposed to make profit?
I go carry the $100K go buy a couple of flats for Lekki abi?

To be a PUBLIC company you need I think 50 or 70 shareholders with no one having anything more than 70%. That I think is the requirement for listing. The listing requirement use to be on the SEC site.

Once CHAMS fulfill the number of shareholder bit, they are qualified for listing. Doing a PO after is because they wanted to though most companies get listed so as to raise funds hence the IPO alsmot after.

Dangote did an offer for sale to fulfill the 70% and the number of shareholders rule. For CHAMS, they've already fulfilled the 70% rule. It is only the number of shareholders that they need to sort out.
You are right about the 70% bit for a public company i said in my post you only need 2 shareholders to form a limited company. For listing on the NSE only 25% of the stock need to be floated! Dangote floated 25% of his personal holding in DFM and that is what all of us were scrambling for and at least you know the result.

The man still owns 75% of the company  and listing on NSE is imminent its all in the prospectus!

Afrinvest was $100k but may reduce further based on my discussion with them yesterday (went to their office for the first time).

Part of the money meant for this already gone for CHAMS. Will see the possibility of raising circa N10m for this. Action will depend on how juicy the offer is. forward PE might even be less than 1 in 3 years time.

For those who may like to participate but do not have that money, team up together as friends, form a company and contribute based on your shareholding. Basically you create a Special Purpose Vehichle (SPV) for the investment. People may start to put heads together now on who and who they will partner for this. Of course it must be people of like minds who trust each other.
$100k will probably not be too injurious but for me to tie that down for three years nah? I want to see how the share price of the company i'm invested in is doing on the NSE watch the gyrations and be able to offload and unload  anytime  i want that is the buzz i get from investing!
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by RoughCut(m): 7:14pm On Jan 11, 2008
wanaj0:
That is still not clear. To create liquidity, there is minimum number of shareholders that you can have prior to listing. That's the reason for the PP. Once you fulfill that you are game for listing. Also, no man can have more than 70% of the company.

With the PP they don't need to do an IPO except they wanted to. Airservices is listed and there is no PO. Dangote is doing IPO (offer for sale) to increase the shareholder base thereby diluting his holdings. DSR is listed and no PO.
For any company to be listed on the NSE 25% of the stock must be held by private or public individuals. DSR and DFM are owned by one and only one individual and that is the man himself through Dangote Industries Ltd(DIL) and for the companies to be listed the shares must be floated to private individuals or  public individuals through PP or IPO or PO.

You need at least at least two shareholders for a company to become limited innit? and if between those two individuals they control at least 25% equity it can be floated although this is an extreme scenario but just to illustrate my point!

In NIGERIA, anything can happen. Fidson PP I learnt was oversubscribed and money will be returned!!!!

Not sure the meaning of the bolded portion.

Learnt that the MTN placement is on. Hopefully, one of the brokers will send the offer document. Was however told that listing on NSE will not happen until about 3years. Moreover, there may be no dividend payment. But at listing, expect huge profit. So that one na real LONG term by the definition here.
It means 25% of  CHAMS must be held publicly! So hopefully after the PP they will float more than 25% for the IPO so as not to create illiquidity and 'money return' syndrome. Dangote is a prime example

Abeg, the CHAMS people don make money.

They did a PP in 2005 or so. Minimum was 1m units at N6.00 or so. Now they have done a stock split and followed it up with a 4 for 1 bonus. The N6m is now N20m.

Was told that they will be listed at N5.00 soon. There will be no oversubscription according to SKYEBANK. Once the level allotted to them is reached, they will stop collecting forms.
I think PP should not normally not be over-subscribed which is why they would not take any more applications once they have hit their quota .The issuing houses have already guaranted to buy the shares in the unlikely event that no one buys but of course we know that is not possible so it is really not in their interest to allow over-subscription and star returning money.

CHAMS only need to float 25% of their share capital to qualify for listing on the NSE after which they will follow up with IPO and then they can absorb some over-subscription

For those complaining about PO oversubscription, I don't understand it. This is already a known fact which you should figure into your calculations. Buy in multiple tranches and don't buy too much. Simple enough so you don't scream blood when money is being returned.

Consider it long term investing. Buy for your spouse and your children. This is easy enough. Have more children if necessary grin grin grin
Not a problem as long as your investment in the stock market is enough to cater for the children grin grin grin grin grin grin
