Toks2008:Gentleman, there is no provision for an independent candidate in The 1999 Constitution as amended. Go and do your research well. The link you posted up there is not The 2022 Electoral Act, neither is The 1999 Constitution as amended. Just a link to a bill passed. For your information, it's not all bills passed by the National Assembly became law. With me here is both the hard and soft copy of the 2022 Electoral Act. No single section of the 154 sections provides for the independent candidature. You can do well by stating here, the exact section and sub-section that provide for an independent candidature for us to go and verify. Else, I have gone through all the sections, there is no provision for an independent candidature. Attached below is a quote by a Senator, Chukuma Utazi, the senator representing Enugu North senatorial District, lamenting the inability of the Nigerian electoral system to have room for independent candidates. Also attached is the cover page of The 2022 Electoral Act. Lawyers here on the forum said there is no provision for independent candidates, you said otherwise. Law makers said no provision for independent candidates, you said otherwise. The 1999 Constitution as amended said no provision for independent candidates, you still said otherwise. Yet The 2022 Electoral Act said same, you said otherwise. You must truly be otherwise, young man.

immortalcrown:A simple google will help you out on David Oyedepo's numerous attack against bad government in Nigerian since 2015. He has been called PDP bishop for attacking Buhari's government. It's however, not the responsibility of nairaland to educate you. Go to school to be informed and also know how to carry out research. https://saharareporters.com/2020/05/06/bishop-david-oyedepo-attacks-president-buhari-over-opening-markets-while-asking-churches ? https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/oyedepo-attacks-buhari-as-he-supports-endsars/llhqs1v ? https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/277593-resign-now-oyedepo-tells-buhari.html ? https://independent.ng/covid-19-bishop-oyedepo-reacts-angrily-against-buharis-government/ ? https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/03/buharis-govt-is-the-worst-most-wicked-in-nigerias-history-oyedepo/ ? Toks2008:I never wanted to commend on your posts initially but you keep writing this over and over on different threads. Perhaps, you created a thread about Osinbajo's independent candidature where you argued strongly that the Professor is the ultimate solution to Nigerian's problems. Your action once again confirms how daft the average Nigerian is. To start with, there is no provision for an independent candidature in the 1999 Constitution as amended. This fact alone goes a long way in exposing your ignorance of the Nigerian government, law, and governance. Thus, you are not in a good position to talk about the subject matter. Come to think of it, if you are not exposed and enlightened enough to know the position of Nigerian laws on election candidacy, how do you want Nigerians to trust your exposure and critical thinking to logically rather than emotionally arriving at a presidential material for the nation. Perhaps, you don't know the Osinbajo you advocate well. Perhaps, the same people around him who you castigate for not supporting him to emerge the APC candidate know him much better than you do. Perhaps, the Buharis, the Tinubus, etc know the professor of law better than you. Come to think of it, the Prof did not come from either the sky or outside Nigeria to contest for covet position. On the contrary, Mr. Osinbajo has been in government for the past seven years. What are his footprints in the sand of time in the past seven years? Isn't it ironic for a man who is the second in command in one of the most retrogressive governments in Nigeria to be the very solution to Nigerians' problem? Oh! Young man, please, sit up. I mean, you can do better than this level of reasoning. Where was he at those times Nigeria needed a sane mind the most? Where was he when the Aso Rock Chapel was closed and brought down by this government? What was his position on the unpopular Ruga, Ranches, etc policy of this government? Where was the Rev gentleman when the government took a disastrous decision about the end SARS protesters? There is no doubt, a lot of questions to ask. You can easily say the Prof was afraid of the cabal to either act or talk, but the question of loyalty will then chip in. Where lays the loyalty of this eloquent Prof? To Nigeria and Nigerian or to Buhari and the cabal? Did he swore to be loyal to Nigeria or the cabal? Did he swore to protect the Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria or to protect the interest of the cabal? Where is his sense of patriotism? As the Vice President of Nigeria, the Pastor is the head of the country's economic team. How has the Nigerian economy fared under his watch? I remember the popular campaign slogan during their election campaign 'Buhari will be in charge of security and Osinbajo will handle the economy. Young man, how has the economy fared under Osinbajo? Young man, please, stop being delusional. Know this today, Mr. Osinbajo is just your regular Nigerian politician, a weak one at that. There is nothing extraordinary about the Pastor. He is just a product of social media hype. Young men, know this, and no peace. with the situation in Nigeria right now, it's very difficult to find a single Nigeria with the magical wane and Midas touch Prof Osinbajo is projected to possess. Nigeria is, however, blessed with very few Nigerians who although not being saints have a proven track record, both in the strength of character, integrity patriotism, and truthfulness as well as in government and governance as regards economy, policy formulation, and implementation, social engineering, etc. Me Osinbajo is not in this league. You can for sure count Mr. Peter Obi as one. Although he is currently being hype. He is no doubt frugal. There is also Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and a few others but not Osinbajo. |

By the provisions of the electoral act, political parties can replace candidate in any election in case of a candidate's withdraw, provided it's not less than 90 days to the general electio. Than You. MMWandali: |

ArewaNorth:Which doubt exactly did your thread clear? For goodness sake, what has the ACT your thread quoted got to do with the CBN Governor's political aspiration. Be informed that the office of the President which the CBN Governor is aspiring for is an elected political office hence it's guided by the ELECTORAL ACT/LAW and not the CBN ACT. You should have rather quoted provisions of the electoral act to clear the doubters. Thanks. |
