Orlando Owoh: Who remembers the story of the two friends who had an encounter with a boar in the bush. The tall one climbed a tree while the fat one who could not climb feigned dead, when he remembered a story that boars don't eat dead people."What did the boar say to you? " asked his friend, and his response was "a friend in need, is a friend in deed." |

I never said people should stop taking palm oil as such, i was talking from my personal experience. After watching the documentary, i decided to change my eating habit knowing what i now know. i do not cook with palm oil. I now use olive oil, sun flower oil, canola oil sesame seed oil. Etc. I spoke about these regions where it is eaten in excess. It even made me think back to university days and i made a list of friends i know whom their parents died during that period of heart disease and most of them where from the delta region. Most people said that their forefathers have eaten this for years and lived long. That is true, but they spent long hours on the farm and did physical labour till their last days. They didn't spend it sat in front of the computer or video games, or sat in the car for long hours. They had long walks to get from one place to another. Our life styles have changed so much, i think we should change our eating habits to suit our live styles. And PLEASE, i didn't say you should stop eating palm oil. ![]() |
NEFF is a very good brand. |
temisukanmi: Wetin we no go hear!! Thought vegetable oil was bad, now its palm oil.. All dis stop dis, stop dat stuff is getting out ☀̤̣̈̇f hand. I once read dat palm oil is gud for the eyes..All I am saying is that Palm oil is very high in Poly saturated fats, these fats clog up the arteries. If you know this fact are you still prepared to take this risk? |
A couple of years back, I watched a documentary on CNN, stating that the highest rate of heart disease in the world, is in a small town called Abraka, situated in the old Bendel state. I don't know if there is anyone here is watched or heard of this documentary. After much investigation and reading, it occurred to me that the problem is from the high consumption poly saturated fats. The source which is Palm oil, which is consumed in very high quantities in the delta areas. ( Banga soup, Owo etc.) Palm oil contains dangerous fats and should not be consumed in high quantities. After all the gruesome images in that documentary I stopped taking foods prepared with palm oil. At first it wasn't easy but I am so used to it I don't miss it. I think Palm oil should be used for more commercial purposes: like soaps, creams etc. and internal consumption should be restricted. As a rule of the thumb, any oil that congeals in the bottle I don't consume, I've tried getting my folks to give it up and I understand that it is impossible especially when you are used to it. Is there any one here who thinks otherwise or has a similar experience? |
brabus: Even our dog deserve a better place...Cute dog. What breed and is it a he or a she? |
I had to put a dot as that word is converted to slow on this site. |
The word "simple" has been abused by Nigerians. Describing a human being as simple could mean r.etarded in the western world. "MODEST"is more appropraite. |
I think its the burnt or smoked wood flavour |

@ dimple cakes It is not the recipe that makes the cake sponge, but how you combine them, you have got to understand the chemistry of each ingredient and what it does to the cake. |
dimplecakes: Thanks ma'am for the tutorial.@dimplecake i will try to aanswer your questions as best as i can because i dont really understand what you mean by plain cake but for clearificaton purposes i will assume that you mean medeira cake. The difference is that spone cake has got more air, is much lighter thats how it gets its name sponge. Some sponge cakes do not contaiñ butter and there are some that do not contain the yolk of the egg only the egg white. I will include more cake recipes as time goes by. For the time being i have included The Victorian Sponge recipe. Most cake recipes originate from this. VICTORIAN SPONGE CAKE The secret to geting a fluffy cake is by creaming the butter and sugar together at a moderate speed. Once you get that creamy texture add the eggs gently and do not let it coagulate. Fold in the flour. Make sure you sieve your flour first to incorporate air. This will make your cake lighter. Try this victorian recipe : 250g each sugar, butter and flour(self raising). Four medium size eggs 1tsp vanilla 1 tsp lemon juice or milk (optional) Try this method and let us know how you get on. |
