This just continues the narrative of the angry black person. ... he could have voice his displeasure in a non violent way.

The joke wasn't even that bad , although children and health issues should be off limit but technically it not yet off limitb

i agree, so embarrassing. The whites will be thinking, they have involved more blacks in the Oscar and they have brought their ghetto behaviour along. lipsrsealed embarassed It was shameful behaviour by Will Smith and even the shouting and cursing from his seat made the situation worst. not good for blacks. we don't have too many black role models up there and see what Will goes to do at the Oscars. If not for Denzel Washington he wouldn't have even apologised in the first place.

I agree - the Academy should withdraw the award.
Irrespective of the merits or otherwise of the joke about his wife's hair and how he felt about it, resorting to violence, and on the Academy's premises before the whole world to boot, is a no-no.

That's like killing a fly with a hammer. He can be fined but not stripped of his Oscar because he worked hard for it.

Hi Nairalanders,
What is the best way to invest funds without actually being engaged in doing anything? I have what I do that brings in money, I just feel like some funds are idle in my account and Naira - dollar fluctuations isn't helping matter.

For example fixed deposit accounts, which Nigerian bank has the best interest rate?

No cryptocurrency
No forex
No betting
No scam investment

No PM

Robot trading up to 30% return go and read up on it

Thank you.

I don’t think so, the person said mentioned Abuja in their previous post. That’s why I am confused right now.

The Nigerian high commission only deals with Nigerian Visas and passports.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: My Incompetence Just Cost Me A Job, I Feel Worthless by Rubyventures: 1:24pm On Mar 15, 2022
Supremedrizzy:
Someone gave me a simple job of making an existing static site template responsive within 24 hours and I blew it. A simple task that should take few hours, it looked all good on my localhost only to test it on netlify and it turned out to be a disaster. I'm just so ashamed of myself.

I've been learning web dev since mid last year though its been a case of one month on three months off, I've been grossly inconsistent due circumstances beyond my control. I haven't even coded this year because I come back from my menial hustles with battered bones and weak muscles. You can imagine trying to code after offloading a trailer load of cement all day. I even had to use bet shops around for the gig amidst the pangs of hunger I felt while working coupled with the noisy and distracting environment I was working in which contributed to my legendary blunder.

At the age of 30 and unemployed I've always seen programming as my way out of poverty but it seems I'm not good enough. I'm painfully watching that little flicker of hope fizzle out before my tearful eyes. Which other skill can I dabble into product design?? I suck at designs reason why my frontend skills is below average... should I try backend?? I'm just confused, frustrated and down casted not knowing the next step to take while time is no longer on my side.

Life currently has no meaning and direction to me, I just seem to be flowing aimlessly with the flow. My situation is giving me sleepless nights and I now rely on drugs to sleep for even three hours a day.

I really need someone to talk to, I'm really tired of trying to work out things on my own. I'm 30, broke, lonely and depressed, single has been a constant in my life's equation cos I don't even like myself for who I am presently so I don't expect someone's daughter to like me in this my miserable state.

Someone should please show me the way, this dark tunnel is fast turning to a maze that I can't navigate on my own.

Hey, You are too hard on yourself, give yourself a break.
Things are hard for a lot of people. You need to get rid of all the negativity and concentrate on the positives.
After reading your story all I see, is a young man with loads of potential but doesn't know it because he is his own worst enemy and he keeps knocking himself down at every little mistake. Who doesn't make mistakes?
Stop this or you will lead yourself to the road of self destruct and not able to come back.

You should be wearing a mask as this level of pollution is unsustainable, this is what you are breathing into your lungs. Very sad. Another option is to move out to a less polluted town if you can afford to do so.

Hello Gurus in the house. Thank you all for your wonderful contributions to this group and your contributions have been so helpful. But I need clarification for a dilemma I am in.
So I got in to UK November and got a band 4 position in NHS herein London that include inner London high wages. There checks were concluded just last week, received unconditional offer and I have email the HR about my starting date and my words, and she replied that I have been schedule for an induction and appointment contract will be sent by next week. However, yesterday I got a better offer in Band 5 in an interview I did early this month with higher pay and nearer to my house....
But I already gave out my words to the HR of the formal offer work, with all arrangement for inductions now in place.

What can I do ?

There are certain situations where you have to look out for yourself and i think this is one of them. Just call the the first employer and be honest with them so they can have it on record. Don't leave it to until the last minute. These employers always choose about three final applicants, just incase their first or second choice disappoints.

Goodmorning House

I recently arrived in the UK on a dependant visa. Please what's the best risk free investment, with reasonable interest for an initial investment of £20k.

I checked the banks bonds and some bank investments, their rates are horrible.

Any advise pls?

20k seems too small for a riak free real estate investment coupled with the fact that have zero experience on that. Crypto is entirely out of my option.

Even electricians there are some that don't like to get their hands dirty, so they just concentrate on issuing electrical certificates . They don't even spend up to 20mins on the job and issue a certificate of £175, depending on the size of the property. The same with some plumbers the corgi registered ones. Someone else does the job and they issue a gas certificate. In the UK its illegal to place a tenant in a property without this things. You also have the ones that issue the EPC certificates.

There is a lot of money to be made in these professions and there is a skill shortage. Employers are paid to take on apprentices for theses trades.

I’m not sure where you heading with this but I can tell you that data is inaccurate as of today.
My sister in-laws is training to be a plumber, she earns over £45k and she only works Monday to Friday in London. Her dad (my father-in-law) is a gas and electrician by trade and he earns more than £90k . I only got to know this cuz I saw the tax documents.
As at 2016 HGV (7. Tonne) drivers working for IKEA/DHL were on £35K while those from agencies earned £15/£17 per hour. A class 1 HGV driver would earn more than a 7 tonne HGV driver. Likewise HGV drivers that drive those fuel tankers earn over £50k as at 2016. …

You can’t be a long distance driver for the fun of it. You have to love driving for you to enjoy it…

I only got a HGV license as my plan B in 2016 just in case I didn’t get an engineering job. I don’t use it anymore but at least I have an option.

Anybody that loves driving and can do manual handing should use the opportunity ( shortage of drivers in the UK) to train.

Same here, i see tax documents for plumbers of £150k net and more.

What's the best bank for Fixed Deposit for a 1year term?

Also can anyone advice a good investment with a mouth-watering ROI grin EXCLUDING Crypto

If you have at least £20K to invest then use a good investment manger like vanguard to invest in index shares. They are not too expensive they charge about £7 per quarter. They have many good packages that cover the whole of the market. You cant go wrong. This will cover your ISA annual allowance so you won't have to pay tax on your returns.

I hired a guy to come plaster a section of a wall earlier this month, paid over £200 for less than a 2 hour job. Speaking to him, he said this was his if i can remember correctly his 10th job for the year. He used to drive a Porsche which he sold recently even at a price higher than what he paid for it. My mouth dropped at some of the stories he told us about how much he has made over the years and believe me lots of is that do white collar jobs don't earn that kind of money and they collect cash so don't pay HMRC anything.

Paid one to do the kitchen, minus the cost of the appliances and cabinets i calculated £4000 as his take home for about a 10 day job and he worked at his own pace. How many of us earn that?

When you start, you might have to build credibility and experience, but when you get that, the sky is the limit to what you want to earn and how you want to work.

All the people that ask what certification they need to do to get a job in the UK, of you are still in Nigeria, go and attach yourself to that Baba painter and Bana plumber and Baba carpenter even barber to learn the trade, come here fine tune the skills get whatever CSCS card or certification you need and with God on your side, there are no limits.

Well said. Tell all the certificate collectors. This is the reality on ground.
