AirBay: E.g Doncaster, I am very sure about this. Some parts of Sheffield, 2-3 bedroom flat goes for £500 -£550 I thought it was only in Wales and Scotland you get such low prices. |

TheGuyFromHR: Comparing cost of living in the UK and Nigeria is difficult. This is because most people in Nigeria unfortunately are not living at the same standard as the average person in the UK is (in terms of access to decent education, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.). Taxation might seem high in developed countries, but a lot of people would gladly pay developed country taxation if that would provide them developed-country amenities. And everything has a knock on effect, for instance, if you want to earn decent wages yourself, you have to realise that means increasing wages for everyone in terms of a good minimum living wage, so one cant expect to get cheap childcare/domestic service, for instance, which in turn pushes up cost of living, and so on. Yes thats what im trying to say. You have got to compare like for like. Bottom line is if you want to live the same standard of living in Nigeria as the Uk with just the necessary basics. Nigeria is more expensive. |

Lexusgs430: Human wants are insatiable....... Remember your micro economics lectures........ What Frank is trying to say is that if you are comfortable in Nigeria dont sell all your assets and move abroad expecting a much better life. It might be the biggest mistake aof your life and the shame of going back with nothing is why most stay and live a hard live in the west. His message is not for everyone. .. But like you said.. Human wants are insatiable.... |

justwise: People who appear on that program and embarrassing body are brave, I mean for someone with baseball bat as a 3rd leg I can understand that but for people with the size of a middle finger appear and still turn up for work the next day? Hmmm I watched that programme once and never watched it again. if this was Nigeria, your whole village will disown you including the ones that have never met you. |

OkanlawonB: True talk my Oga BUT 900 pounds for 1 bedroom flat is only true for London, in most other cities in England 600 pounds per month will get you a 3 bedroom Flat, am quite sure you are aware of this, just stating this for the sake of the people planning to come. Where do you get a one bed flat for £900 in London? Not anymore. Maybe a bedsit if you are lucky and it will be rundown. |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Rubyventures: 9:42am On Jun 23, 2021 |
Ilekokonit: The pounds people mention may seem high but the monthly bills and living expenses in the UK are very high too for example if your monthly net pay is £2,000 and your Rent for a 1 bed flat is £900, Council Tax £100, Gas and electricity £100, Water £40, Broadband and Tv Licence £60, Travel £150 and you havent added car insurance + petrol if you have a car and feeding and so you'll see that at the end of the day you may not be able to save much out of the £2,000 net pay and a lot of employees in the UK even with good wages still depend on credit cards and overdrafts and its very hard to see an employee in the UK that has savings worth 3 times of their monthly net pay .
So the grass may seem greener on the other side but is it really greener ?? Not all that glitters is gold . I think the cost of living is much higher in Nigeria. If you want 24hrs electricity you have got to factor in the cost of diesel / petrol |

Bluetherapy: Lol... Still doesn't matter I can have a good credit score and earn 60k with £100 left at the end of the month. Person wey go default go still default For a landlord to get landlords insurance the prospective tenant must have passed a credit check which requires details of your job, income and payslips and bank statements to show where your salary goes in and that you are not always in permanent overdraft. |

Ilekokonit: One of the "qualities" I have observed in the UK among managers is the fact that a lot of them have no conscience and they will gang up in a clique against you if you are not a Yes person or you have too much self confidence and they do this witch hunting against strong willed white people as well.
Many years ago I saw my line manager who had tried to control me without succeeding reading a book at KFC about witchcraft and the same manager at an outing told me that any time we are coming in opposite directions in the long office gangway he feels as if I am going to punch him and this is me who has a smile on my face and hold no evil intention against him. This shows that na him witchcraft dey worry am as he couldn't fathom how he had dominated people who had been there years before I joined but couldn't dominate me.
And you are correct, Oyinbo too can lie and generally when Oyinbo wan do evil, dem dey plan am scientifically that its effects are devastating to the victim. But chin up and don't worry as you will eventually get a GOOD job as a mans gifts and something he is very good at will ALWAYS open doors for him sooner or later. Delay is no denial !!!! You must be working with the wrong set of people. There's good and bad in all races, maybe if you open your mind a bit you might not be so paranoid. |

tushqueen: Hi my people, help us put mouth for this matter ooo. She came into the UK pregnant with CoS from her employer. Pregnancy was declared before leaving home country but she isn't entitled to SMP/paid mat leave). She made an attempt to apply for maternity allowance when her visa says no public fund. Is she allowed to take maternity allowance? Will this affect her subsequent renewal of visa? I don't thinks SMP or MA has got anything to do with your visa status. |

ibizgirl: So do you subject your buttercream cakes to extreme heat?
A cake covered with normal buttercream would NOT melt.
Maybe you need to look at the post I am replying or simply tell her what to add to buttercream to make it stable. On a very hot day Buttercream will melt. |

Monchadam: Hi.
My friend died around June this year and she was buried quickly. Before that, we were close pals, we weren't dating, but she was my friend, and I loved her, she loved me too. When I went through hard times she was with me. In her absence and in her presence, she sent me messages daily on how I should own the day and make it fruitful, we created memories together.
Even in my anger, she would hold me in silence, I've never experienced that kind of love from anyone, never before.
I honestly would have married her, when the time was right, I'm sure of that. The purest soul I've met. She shared everything with me, as I did with her. And always wanted to know what went through my mind.
To the problems she couldn't solve, she held me and stayed silent.
I'm still broken till date, I cant move on, I just cant. I still call her number to see if it would go.
How do I move on guys? It still hurts, that the only person who really loved and cared decided to leave this world.
I need your advice on how to move on. Thank you Take it one day at a time and hold on to the memories you had. Time is a great healer. |

TheGuyFromHR: Insightful. By any chance, do you know what the status of the income earned by a Tier 4 dependant would be? I gather than my earnings by way of salary from Nigeria, which are taxed here, might/will be exempt from tax in the UK? What about earnings from side businesses/rental property etc., which is generally not taxed (or rather upon which no tax is generally paid in Nigeria) - any idea what the tax treatment in the UK would be? Get yourself a tax accountant. |

LagosismyHome: Do HMRC audit personal bank accounts if you dont have a business .... I dont think so oo and wanted to ask when I saw that comment
Now if this money you are using it and officially declaring it as an income for visa purposes then fair enough ..... but if u are not declaring it as an income for visa purposes then why cant it be a gift from naija . If my mother sends me regular money from naija then that cannot be taxed
There also an issue of double taxation. If you are taxed in nigeria then hmrc needs to give tax relief so you dont pay double tax on that money
It all depends on what exactly you are doing with that money from abroad At the end of the day it depends on your residential status, if you are UK resident then you have got to pay tax on all your income. There is tax relief to avoid double taxation but you have to to be able to prove it. The HMRC do carry out a random check on accounts mostly businesses and the self employed and if your bank reports money coming into your account from abroad on a regular basis. If you are a foreign student then it doesn't matter but if you are UK resident then the HMRC will take an interest. These days terrorist groups use student accounts to lauder money and the banks have also got a duty to report this. The UK tax system is complicated and gets more complicated once you start receiving income from abroad, thats why you pay an accountant to take the stress away from you. |
