Programming / Re: Why Nigerian Apps Are ALWAYS Buggy by RuggedSniper: 1:42pm On Nov 17, 2020
FincoApps:
This is probably one of my longest posts but I believe it should go a bit far in improving the quality of Nigerian Made Apps.

I find it necessary to first of all, acknowledge that this is an unusual article in that this topic is rarely up for discussion in the Nigerian Techsphere. My main purpose of writing this article is to highlight the reasons “Made in Nigeria” apps always look and feel…“Nigerian”! Although it may seem offensive, this is something that should ultimately help Software Developers in Nigeria, create better Apps and shake off the stigma of bad quality.

WHAT IS “THE NIGERIAN FACTOR”
What exactly do I mean by “The Nigerian Factor”? The Nigerian factor is that obvious or not too obvious bug or imperfection present in most Apps made in Nigeria. These kinds of bugs immediately make a user know the App is made in Nigeria. The imperfections can be of different types or categories. Most obvious ones are:

Minor User Interface Bugs: These are bugs like weirdly positioned logos or improperly centered views etc… These are minor but obvious imperfections. Unfortunately, they are more common in Nigerian Apps.

Bad User experience: These are not actually bugs. They are just UI behaviors that are either not expected or odd.

Grammatical errors: Grammatical errors, is just what it says – spelling mistakes, improper punctuation (in a Corporate App).

These are minor, but their presence, unfortunately, gives away the nationality of the App.
Plain old bugs: These are the normal bugs in almost all apps but much more obvious in Nigerian Apps.

EXAMPLES OF APPS WITH THE NIGERIAN FACTOR
Apparently, just listing a couple of bug categories is not enough to fully grasp the concept of the Nigerian factor, so in this part, I will list some popular Nigerian Apps and point out the Nigerian factors I could find in them.

Kingsleyinfo (OP) http://blog.freecodecamp.com/2015/01/a-vision-of-coding-without-opening-your-eyes.html?m=1

I have been a secret disciple of programming, and I really do admire those who can 'actually' write code. My journey made me apply for the Andela fellowship, then I didn't get past the interview stage, so I decided I was gonna learn how to code, if not professionally then it's gonna be a hobby that I'll be good at....

While looking for inspiration, I came across this blog post above....

Then I look at myself and say, if a blind man can code, I wonder what am afraid of....

This story has totally inspired me to at least learn to program for fun before anything else.

There is even a blind programmer working with Google,
Truly impossible is nothing...

Incase you would like to mentor me, I would be grateful for the opportunity to learn from you.

This is exactly why I left the gaming industry back in 2016. It's still not a feasible career path as of today in Nigeria. You can be lucky of course, but I would say 90 out of 100 game developers in Nigeria end up quitting.

If you really need to become a game developer, you are better of moving to more developed country to hone your skills. Make a lot of money and maybe one day you will gather a team that create games you've been dreaming of.

I still love game dev. It's a creative exercise, but I've adjusted to reality. I'd love to go back at some point when I'm super comfortable and money ain't a problem. Just creating content to make people happy.

Travel / Re: Is Life Abroad Worth The Stress And Hype? Memoirs Of A Naturalized Immigrant. by RuggedSniper: 9:44pm On Nov 16, 2020
theamerican:

This is exactly the reason I created this thread. Many people don't tell the whole story. many cannot get professional Job's after school is often taken out of context. I'll try to explain some things.

These countries have strict immigration laws. There is a system, and I promise you, those systems work. Visa for visitors, students, workers, etc. are such labeled because that's all they are supposed to be. There are restrictions for visitors, students, non-residents in general, etc. People start encountering problems when they try to do something contrary to how the society was designed to work.

Before leaving Nigeria, many people are aware of the restrictions of their visa. When you hear that visitors aren't allowed to work, or students shouldn't work more than 10/20 hours weekly or that foreigners are taxed at a higher percentage than residents/citizens, you know what you're signing up for before traveling. It's stupid for anyone to get there and complain.

If you understand the system and make plans for how to blend with it, you will avoid most problems. If they give visa to visit or simply study, do just that. If you decide to violate the terms of the visa, you lose the right to complain. Whatever you face afterwards is your own doing. I promise you, it's still a lot better than what you'll face in Nigeria.

Like people have said on here, majority of those who complain are people who are abroad without proper documentation, qualification, yet, they expect too much from the host country. There are success stories everywhere, just like there are stories of failures. In the end, everyone's gonna be ok.

Both Republicans and Democrats have hurt blacks, other minorities and the entire American system to varying degrees over the decades... It's about choosing between the two "evils!" Read the best-selling book entitled: "ROGUE STATE" by William Blum who is an American to understand how and why successive American Federal governments sponsored coups and assasinations abroad, disobeyed court orders to pay compensations to those they have hurt globally and propped up dictatorships while living a lie about being democratic. The Popular votes also have to gain ascendancy over the Electoral College votes just the same way popular votes determine the winners of elections in most of the advanced democracies worldwide... then the U.S.A will begin to unleash herself as the ultimate world power for the benefit of mankind. last time I checked Northerners are the victim of Boko Haram unless you live in the north, my bad. Insecurity is not peculiar to naija alone. Usa, brazil, south africa, france are all crime prone. Innocent people are killed in those countries. Is it because they don't report it in the media? Go to alternative media platforms like hoodsite dot com worldstarhiphop dot com and see for yourself.
You are talking about loans, which country is not borrowing to stay afloat this moment? UK is running a furlough scheme, for unemployed people which has run the country into debt and you know who will pay it? Foreigners with huge taxes. You work like lion and eat like ant.
USA worst unemployment records at the moment. You think if you enter abroad, you would even see cleaning job? Lol.
The problem in naija is just corruption and bad government. Swear you didn't vote in this bad government.
WORD! The Abuja-Kaduna mass rail line is already making profit right now according to the boss of NRC in a business report in early 2020. Nigeria is only borrowing for profitable projects at low single-digit interest rates that can be repaid in record time! On the other hand, if anyone wants to leave that country... then do so as long as it is done legally after the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine and the Russian Sputnik-V Covid-19 vaccine have been introduced fully in 2021.

Rightmove app is better than Zoopla. You can download the app in your phone or tab.Council tax are usually for policing, refuse collection, lighting of streets, maintenance of parks, fire servicing, subsidizing local transports and so on. Its from band A to F. Bands A are cheaper followed by B, C and the farther the more expensive.
I would advise you physically inspect a house before moving in. Also check energy rating too its very important, it ranges from A to F, the higher the energy rating that's A, B or C the better cos it means the house is well insulated hence, won't require much heating except in winter.
Also when signing tenancy agreement, its better to sign for 6 months so that you won't be stuck in the property if along the line you are not comfortable and want to move out.
If I remember anything I would chip it in.

Romance / Re: Types Of Vaginas - Which One Do You Have (photos) by RuggedSniper: 5:23am On Nov 15, 2020
landmark86:
1. Ms. Barbie

This is what most people think of when they picture a vagina, and contrastingly, Mel says it's also the most uncommon.

With Ms. Barbie, the labia minora (the inner lips) are completely contained by the labia majora (the outer lips), and both sets of lips rest up against the pelvic bone.

2. Ms. Curtains

For Ms. Curtains, the labia minora extend past the labia majora. And depending on the person, they may stick out a lot or just a little bit.

This is arguably the MOST common type of vagina to have, and it's often seen in some combination with the other types listed here.

3. Ms. Puffs

Ms. Puffs may look similar to Ms. Barbie, but the distinction is in how close the lips hang to the pubic bone.

With Ms. Puffs, they sit much lower and can be either full and puffed up or thin and loose. People might think this has to do with the age or weight of the woman, but Mel says there's actually no correlation.

4. Ms. Horseshoe

With Ms. Horseshoe, the opening of the vagina spreads wider at the top, exposing the labia minora, but it touches and closes off toward the bottom.

With this one, there will be no extension of the labia minora past the labia majora, and the general shape is that of an actual horseshoe.

5. Ms. Tulip

Aptly named Ms. Tulip, this vagina looks like a flower bud about to bloom. In this case, the labia minora is slightly exposed through the entire length of labia majora.

This is different from Ms. Curtains in that the labia minora are considered "exposed" but also "contained."

Foreign Affairs / Re: United States Electoral College Explained by RuggedSniper: 4:20pm On Nov 06, 2020
onlyfacts:

The electoral college works on a state level and its a winner takes all kind of system. Take for example California, it has 55 electoral College votes. If a republican gets the highest number of votes in California, it means the electoral college of California will give all their electoral votes to the Republican presidential candidate which is 55. The Democratic candidate will only take the votes casts for him but nothing from the electoral college.

So in this case above it is still the votes of the people that the electoral college works on.

Overall a presidential candidate can still win the highest number of votes and lose at the electoral college. How is this possible?

There are 52 states in the US, and all this states have different populations and different electoral college votes assigned to them. It's just like Nigeria, we have 36 states but they don't have the same population. Lagos, Kano, rivers etc have higher populations compared to the others, win this state with a great margin and you win the election in Nigeria.

In America the objective is almost similar, win the states with the most electoral college votes by winning majority of the votes in that state. Even if those states are 22 states and combined they have electoral college votes of 270 which is needed to win the presidential election, it is more important than winning remaining 26 states that have electoral college votes combined less than 270.

Now how each states are assigned electoral college votes is fair, so cheating is out of it. Each candidate knows what has to be done to get to 270 before election, and if they fail to meet it it's their fault.
