This narrative from "a close government" and nameless source get k-leg! Where there's smoke there's always fire, but there are always two sides to a story though. I feel bad for the dude for getting caught in the middle of this loyalty wahala. |
naijadefender:I thank you for providing us more info on this. However, if the CoS has to tender his resignation to draw the attention of his principal to the only important thing --a matter of life and death, world over at the moment, the only thing that truly matters now--doesn't that prove that the governor is in over his head. If the CoS has to turn to theatrics to have the governor look into the issue of money meant for corona virus, what would the average edo electorate need to do to get the governor's attention? |
What a shame; a true case of the "the lion begat the jackal". The man probably had to claws his way up the food chain to be where he is today, a position where he can provide the best for his kids; and from the looks of things that boy is not like his father. That said, everyone is not going to be an engineer or a doctor; he seems to have a passion for music, send him to a music school. As much as I can understand his frustrations, he needs to understand that his role is to help the young man make the best use of his talents, and that starts with recognizing and accepting the young man's skills set. Best of luck to them. |
valentineuwakwe:So the AGF is aware of people in prison without confirmed criminal cases against them, as well as those with no legal basis to remain in custody, yet defers to state emperors to do the needful and the right thing? The person that cursed Nigeria with poor leaders and leadership really did a number on that country. Is this guy even aware that as the AGF and Minister of Justice is the "last mile" and "checkpoint" on the enforcement of Article 6 of the constitution of the federal republic, that guarantees right to freedom and security and particularly against arbitrary arrest and detention? As the AGF and minister of justice, this man has the right and duty to set anyone free anywhere in the country that has been found to be illegally arrested and or detained, even be it within the governor's (emperor's) bedroom; yet this person that doesn't seem to comprehend his role or duties and responsibility of his office is here deferring to Governors to carry out justice. With men like this in important positions within the administration, how can the president ever deliver on his promises to the people? But then again, was it not the president that appointed this nincompoop to a most crucial position and role in a democratically elected government? So yeah if you like blaming PMB for all that ails the country, carry go, nothing do you; after-all the "buck" stops with him! |
According to BAT, the National leader of the APC, there is a spread of "ambition 2023" virus (scientific name : Covid-23) among the rank and file of party stalwarts at the state and federal levels. Save for the last minute intervention and political dexterity of some highly placed party members, Oshiomhole would have been the first in a series of party chieftains that would have been dealt a fatal blow politically by this rapidly spreading Covid-23. Over the last few days, I had a series of conversations with well placed individuals that revealed a common thread among those willing to be vectors of this pathogen within the ruling party; the threat of becoming irrelevant come 2023. Here's is my take on why some of these people want Oshiomhole out of the way: Governor Obaseki: Oshiomhole is a threat to his second agenda and also, the fight to control the party structure in Edo state beyond his term in office. Governor Akeredolu: Return ticket is not guaranteed with Oshiomhole as APC chairman, and without a second term, he might quickly become irrelevant as he doesn't command a following among party faithfuls in the state. Governor Fayemi: He sees no way forward for his presidential/vice presidential ambition with Oshiomhole as the chairman of the party. Also, equally important is his political future within the party after his second term in office. After showing his hands, he risks losing control of the party structure in his state after his term in office--a lesson from Sen. Amosun's fate in another S'Western state, and Sen. Okorocha failed attempt in Imo State. While he remains dear to PMB, as is Sen. Amosun, there exists no clear path to political relevance post PMB. Former Gov. Rotimi Amaechi: On the surface, that he's one of those opposed to Oshiomhole is surprising, but on a closer look and learning of some of the actions being championed by Oshiomhole to expand the party's membership, it becomes less so. Gov. Amaechi, like Fayemi is fighting to stay relevant politically beyond 2023. While he made enormous contribution to the emergence of PMB as the party flag bearer in 2015 as the incumbent governor of Rivers state--for which he was handsomely rewarded with over-sized portfolio as a minister, his influence has waned considerably during this second term. This is evidence by his still substantial, yet diminished portfolio, and also the unceremonious ouster of Dakuku Peterside from NIMASA. There's also the rumor that Oshiomhole is trying to woo Governor Wike into the APC, in line with his agenda to grow the party. Knowing that he owes his current status within the party to PMB's policy of always taking care of those he felt came through for him at critical points in his political ascension, coupled with the fact that he currently does not control his state or any state for that matter unlike in 2015, the news of Gov. Wike's potential defection to APC, probably made this a fight for political survival for Gov. Amaechi. PDP: It's no secret that the PDP are after Oshiomhole's political jugular and the reason for this is simply that he Oshiomhole and his agenda represents an existential threat to PDP as a party. In the aftermath of the fight for survival of the APC and the general elections of 2019, in the wake of mutiny the led to the formation of the R-APC famously spear headed by former SP. Saraki, the word is Oshiomhole had vowed to repay the PDP in due time with it's own treacherous coin. One of the two strategies was to go after all of the states still under PDP, and most importantly oil rich states of the South-South. Save for the last minute intervention of the judiciary, Beyelsa would have been the first fruit of many to come of that strategy. The second of the two strategies was going after disaffected party bigwigs. We saw the return to APC of Iyamu in Edo state, which quickly escalated the political intrigue in Edo State to a survival battle in a rapid succession of events. Yet to come, but in full motion of these events was the wooing of Gov. Wike of Rivers state into APC--possibly the straw that broke the camel's back in Gov. Amaechi's case. It is no secret that Gov. Wike has been considering his options since Gov. Tambuwal was schemed out of the PDP presidential ticket and with PDP becoming less and less of a national party. On this strategy, I heard there is a long list of targets, all aim at weakening the PDP, while at the same time strengthening the APC--A political Twofer. Feel free to add, refute or corroborate these assertions of mine with yours or your suppositions.

TMSMedia:That's good, now they can go and round up all the ISWAP and Boko Haram murderers terrorizing the region and stop giving the entire nation a bad name! |
socialmediaman: |
presidency:This is nothing but a "back door" ban on US citizenship/naturalization for Nigerians! Possibly the only way they could use to legalize this discriminatory order, hiding under the guise of homeland security. This is an outright ban on IR1/CR1 and also K visa category for Nigerians. This has little to nothing to do with security but rather an agenda to keep black people out of the USA. It's a shame they are hanging this on our "useful idiots" leadership and their inability to digitized arrests records and court judgments! |
Kwanza:This is one of the most disappointing governor in the history of governors! He was sold to the people as a technocrat, an intelligent businessman, whose exploits and knowledge of the financial industry would help revitalize the state, help position the state to attract businesses and create private sector jobs and opportunities for the people. All this guys has done in the last 3 plus years is fight a non existing battle, everyday he is fighting the so called god father. His colleagues are making their states better, this man has nothing to show for the last three years of governing other than "I am fighting god father". Sadly enough, he isn't going to do anything in the next few months because now it's about politics. So sad! |
m4goodlife:Yes there is such a thing and it's actually more prevalent than you'd think. And did you read the part about Aeroconsult kickbacks to shell companies owned by the AVM? From criminal conspiracy to defraud the government to money laundering charges, I am sure there are maybe 3-5 different charges that could be brought against Aeroconsult and Capt. Wada on the dealings of this contract alone. Probably the reason why he's a cooperating witness. And also, that bus conductor analogy you used is also a crime--I think they call that price gouging! It's even more so if it turned out that the bus conductor connived with the garage manager, and the garage manager only chooses to make available to the people the bus with the inflated fare, that also happens to send him kickback from the inflated fares. |
Ivebeenbanned:Please don't throw all men in the same category as this guy, biko. He's behaving like uncle tom and unfortunately, a sizable portion of Nigerian men are uncle toms, when it comes to minority rights in the west. After all, they are probably the descendants of the same men that sold their brothers and sisters from neighboring conquered villages into slavery for mirrors and combs in the very beginning. |
crackkhaus:Ah, so you are one of those lots! The kind that take it as a compliment when "oyinbo man" tells you you speak so well, or that you're so articulate, or that you are one of the good ones. Believe me, they are not compliments. "....to impress me with faux knowledge" Nah, not to impress you but to impress upon you the knowledge that you probably lack of life in the West from all of "your visits". It's a compliment when you tell a five year old he/she is articulate, that he/she speaks so well, but it's not for an adult. Next time you are told that on a "visit", tell that person, so do you; for I thought you were an idiot. I already talked about the bias against her because of her race, I never discounted it.... So you are mad at her that she refuses to accept to tiptoe about in her own home because of their bias? Because she chose to protect her family especially her child from such biased scrutiny; an expectation of every mother. Or did you think it was going to stop with her? How long was it going to take before the headlines goes from Kate/Meghan to Gorge/Archie comparison? Or do you not know that prince Archie will always be the black royal? How long do you think before we start seeing the "black sheep(um royal)" of the family headlines because the kid ate chalk at school? I am not trying to join issues with you; I am only trying to let you know that maybe she did all she did to protect her family. And if you don't live in, or have lived in the west, sit down and talk to someone who does and observe on your next visit. See things from a different perspective and gain some knowledge. |
crackkhaus:I think you totally missed the point! Or you are one of those "victim of 400 years of conditioning. The man has programmed my conditioning. Even my conditioning has been conditioned.”(Chameleon Street by Wendell B. Harris). I would like to believe it's the former! All that is is nothing but nuance racism, everyone who's lived, studied or worked in the west have experienced it one way or the other. Go ask around in the fortune 500 corporate world, a Caucasian is smart and confidence, while a black man is uppity and headstrong for having the same qualities. Re-read those headlines and what you see are two people doing the same thing, but one is said to be "smart and confidence" and the other "arrogant and disrespectful". The reason for that is nothing but racism; those headlines above show nothing but the racism of the British (Caucasians in general) people. And if the latter of the two reasons; well I truly feel sorry for you! Reason being you are probably an "Uncle Ruckus" from the boondocks! You hate yourself, you have accepted the "essence" of the black race from the very racist Caucasian distillery. You are probably one of those people that is more "oyinbo than the oyinbos".You are probably in the category of people that sees little Jamal's tantrum as violent acts and should be monitored, while little Billy's tantrum is nothing but just that! I feel sorry for you because there's nothing anyone can do to help someone like you, you live your life in perceptual fear--fear of being judged, that you are behaving like a black man, you are self conscious, you are aware of the fact that you are being watched and being held to a higher standard just for the fact that you are black. And you hold every other black man to this standard dictated by the white man, not for everybody but just for the black race. And you get mad at them for giving the black race a bad name, whenever they choose to live freely, because that's the only way to live! New Hampshire state motto: Live Free or Die!! And that my friend is the American way! To hell with the British and their nuance racism, because the only way we live is free or dead! |
SouthNigerian:If anyone should be apologizing, it is the igbo leadership in the past and the present that owe the igbos apologies! Yes I said it, the yorubas owe the igboland no apologies! In the earliest possible instance, NCNC could have worked with AG to form a government but it chose instead to join hands with NPC. Call it what you may, this was the beginning of the distrust that continues till date between the yorubas and the igbos. Fast forward to this day; can anyone tell me where the SE elected officials stand on restructuring? How can people work together when you don't even know where they stand? The genius of the amalgamation was rather than a tug of war, what we have in Nigeria is a game of musical seats with three players and two seats--One player is always going to be left standing! Let's not confuse what the people say they want with what their leaders want! The struggle for self determination in the SE is the struggle of the ordinary man on the street! Their current crops of "political" class or leaders in the SE do not share that aspiration, all they want is more power at the federal level and, or to be left alone by the EFCC and ICPC with their loot after leaving office. They are comfortable in the entity called Nigeria--believe me it's a "class' thing! |
Emilokoiyawon:Well said sir! Whatever happened to the constitutionally affirmed right to own a property? Like you rightly said, the herdsmen are committing crimes up and down the entire country, the NPF will not arrest and prosecute them, the AGF is saying people have no rights to defend themselves! In fela's voice" Abegi oh make you hear me very welle, policing might be on the exclusive list of the federal government, the right to self defense of one's life and property is exclusively on the individual's list"! If the federal government would not do it's job because of tribalism and ethnic bias of elected and appointed officials, the people will continue to exercise their universal right to self defense! |
ALAGOGO007:The answer to your question is NO! Even if we are able to meet the production need, transmission is another issue entirely that we can't seem to be able to get right. It's not that it is not doable, but we lack both the political will and sincerity of purpose to be able to achieve this monumental task. |
soloenzo:You have my nomination already for "Nigerian of the decade"! This a welcome development, in fact it is long overdue! Let's start holding their legs to the fire of judicial interpretations of the constitution. Let's force the CJN (aka Mr. Technicality) and his cohorts to go on record and set precedence in their ruling. While I do not expect the current CJN to rule in this guy's favor naturally, the fear of the implication of their rulings will in no doubt force them to consider carefully before making pronouncements. However way they rule, this guy is already a winner and majority of Nigerians that have always wondered if we are a secular state or Islamic state will win by just having this case go all the way to the supreme court. |
saaron:While I sympathize with your viewpoint of a country that's standing on its heads with selfish and confused leadership; I disagree that only in disintegration lies economic development. Here is why; Would a Biafra republic suddenly mean you will no longer be led by your current political class and elites? What have they to show for the last 20 years of democratic rule? Are your current and past state governors not your kinsmen? What are their efforts towards a regional economic block? What are their efforts towards harnessing the technological know how of the people of the region? Granted there will be more money for the political elites of your region to share if they had a country of their own with 100% resources control, but my experience is that the increased economic power would only lead to increase in taste for even more ostentatious luxury! If you can't manage a household budget, then you can't manage a company's budget! And if you can't manage a state budget; you are definitely not going to be able to manage a federal budget! There's no magic to it |
iamstanc:@Anthony Obikwelu, congratulations on your project. I hope you get a chance to use all of your talents in advancement of humanity and most especially, the advancement of technology in Nigeria. I know one of the drawback of pyrolysis is that it's energy intensive process; it can use as much energy as it produces and most time even more than it produces. That is why it is usually used in combination of some sort in industrial process, and why it is never used and probably would not be a process of energy production. Its use in waste management is thought not to be highly effective due to the energy cost mentioned above, but remains one of the only few know option for waste conversion--albeit costly. Rather than sentimentalization of this young man's effort; here is what's important; @AnthonyObikwelu could you give us quantitative data on the efficiency of your project? With this everyone would be able to decide if your effort is worth their capital investment. |
aylipple:But there was a flaw in the so called merit admission list! You can't call a quota list a merit list. You think they just decided to offer her admission into medicine and surgery now out of the goodness of their hearts? No, it was because they were found out to be corrupting the merit admission list with what should be supplementary (catchment area, ELDA, and other criteria based) list. |
2mercy:Now this is what a responsive agency of the government looks like in action! A tip of the hat to all involved, most especially Prof. Oloyede. That said, there is a need for all government agencies to be Proactive, rather than this reactionary response. This would help prevent issues like this and the many that didn't get this type of publicity. According to the write up, after investigation JAMB noted "ABU limited their merit list to 2 candidates per state", and this was wrong according to JAMB. Well, by requiring all institution to communicate their admission criteria to JAMB for review before being implemented, would have help prevent future occurrence of such. After merit admission should be nothing other than merit! If ABU is taking 10 students into a department solely by merit, then rank all candidates that applied to that department in descending order of merit (average score in this case) and pick the top 10! #StillABananaRepublic! #ButRaysOfLightFilterThroughStill! |
KingAzubuike:Please stop talking like this na! The US referred their case to the Nigerian government as PEP (politically Exposed People) who could not justify their sources of wealth, meaning this guy's wife was invited to provide explanation on how she came about the huge amount of money found in her account, but could not. The US is a capitalist utopia, meaning all hustles even "quasi-legit" hustles are welcome and celebrated. But theirs was anything but, and the only explanation is the one we all know; hence, the drama series that just ensued! |
mofeireoluwa:I am sure there are plenty lawyers queuing up to help his cause; he's been wronged by the school and I hope they would make restitution before a legal action is initiated. |
PEPPERified:Not exactly, when it comes to illegal structures the government has the right to demolish it after giving the owner a notice of intent. It is the owner of the structure that should approach the court if they have evidence to the contrary. In this situation, the governor did not act alone or arbitrarily as you wrongly claimed. The KSHA passed a law that was enforced by the State Governor, If the Saraki family had evidence contracting the supposition of the KSHA and the Government, they could have approached the court for an injunction! And believe me Bukola Saraki knows a thing or two about court injunctions. Illegality, not matter how long it's been perpetrated, should be tackled. And honestly, it is Bukola Saraki that has tarnished the name and legacy that was handed him by his father. The goodwill that his father built in the state, the Saraki name recognition on which he rode to power, he destroyed over 16 years of politics of greedy enslavement of an entire state, holding both the resources and people captive. Bukola Saraki is the "inside man" in the on going undoing of the Saraki legacy. Or have we forgotten, that this same man went against his father by anointing his stooge his successor. Or that he was his own father's political opponent while alive. Or that even as we speak, there isn't a unified Saraki political block in Kwara State. My guy, stop crying us a river, you opened up your father's legacy to public ridicule with your politics of greed and "divide and conquer". Sadly, you also divided the Saraki political base, and now it's being conquered! Enjoy reaping what you sowed, and spare us the crocodile tears! |
ijustdey:This is a step in the right direction for our dear republic! This judgement must be applauded. And in this spirit, the federal government, through the office of the attorney general and minister of justice, should play it's fundamental role of safeguarding the constitution by challenging all the laws passed at the state level, that infringes on the constitutional rights of Nigerians. Next up on that list should be the sharia laws; If state assemblies cannot make laws that grant pension to former governors, how in the world are they allowed to make laws that creates a theocratic government with parallel functions to the constitutional democratic one? #effingbananarepublic! |
ExAngel007:I am a firm believer in people being responsible for their actions, but I can't help but agree with the person that said "it's only the chicken coming home to roost"! The level of poverty and unemployment in this country has created a kind of desperation among the youth never before seen. The level of unemployment in this country at the moment calls for a Works Program Administration-like (WPA) response from the Federal government like was done by the US during the great depression. We have unemployed able bodied youths, we lack good infrastructure, we need hospitals and schools and hostels and lecture hall etc, why not "draft" all the unemployed youths into the army/civil corp of engineers, provide funding and have them go to work building infrastructure across the country. This is a cause worth borrowing to finance, as the multiplier effect on our economy would be such that the debt itself would look minuscule in comparison to the resulting economic growth! But no, they are spending borrowed money on N37 bln NASS paint job and expensive cars from Europe and North America; well as long as the poor, hungry youths on the street, the rich would have to make do sleeping with one eye opened! #effingbananarepublic! |
uninspired07:The only motivation behind my comment is respect for the constitution of the country! No one should be discriminated against because of religion or ethnicity, or are those not the laws of the land? Before you start talking about Christian/Muslim schools, go find out from NUC; all licensed universities in Nigeria assented to obeying the laws of land. The Nigerian constitution gives an individual freedom to practice the religion of his choice, and attending chapel is not an academic prerequisite recognized by NUC for accreditation. An injustice is an injustice, doesn't matter who the perpetrators are! When we see an injustice, we need to point it out, be it perpetrated by Muslim, Christian, Atheist, Ogun or Amadioha followers! Oh btw, follow me, so you will see that my motive is for a truly constitutional democratic country,North, South, East and West!!! Or go and SYH elsewhere, bigot! #effingbananarepublic! |
Lukgaf:NUC needs to commence immediate investigation and if this is true, they should withdraw this school's license! Things these overzealous lots do in the name of religion in that country is just mind numbing. As for Mr Toheeb, please look for a lawyer and sue the school for violating your rights. And, if they argue that it's part of the school rules, then add NUC and the Ministry of Education including the Minister to the lawsuit! #effingbananarepublic! |
I am sorry for you, and more so for her! There's a thing called self fulfilling prophecy, and now that they have implanted this nonsense in your mind, and they wholeheartedly believing such, that poor girl stands no chance! My advice, If you wish to marry her putting aside these nonsense "prophetess" yarn, do not tell her what you've been told so as not to corrupt her mind too and sow doubt in it, erase any memory of this conversation from yours. It will be hard but you need to as quickly as possible, focus on the bond you have and make it stronger. Again, if you know you can't erase this from your mind, better free her, because when the vicissitudes of life come your way, as would undoubtedly, for they are the current that creates the waves of the sea of life, it will be very hard for you not to start questioning whether or not your choice was the right one and that's when you will start seeing all the signs you missed! Best of luck to you! |
wirinet:It's like the northern politicians want their own country and yet want to continue funding it with resources from other parts of the country. They want an Islamic republic but they are not willing to let go of the resources from the southern part of the country. I think it might be time for all Nigerians to have their say on whether or not we want to continue with this nonsense. We need to put an end to states operating like sovereign countries within our country. We cannot have a constitutional democratic, secular federal republic and within it, an Islamic republic in the north! Maybe it's time for a national referendum on our unity! |
Ebullience:How is building mosque in 17 emirates going to further the development of the state? How's feeding the needy during the months of Ramadan only going to keep them fed throughout the year? How about instead of Mosques, you build job training and skills acquisitions centers in all of the 17 emirates in your state? You know, a place where children and young adults can learn skills that could actually help them land a job and be able to feed themselves throughout the year and not just during the Ramadan month. Again, what happens to separation of religion and state? Why are some states in Nigeria allowed to practice theocracy instead of democracy as outlined in our constitution? Where is the federal government in all of this? These are some of the reasons most Northern States and politicians are against restructuring--they are already running a country within a country! They have a theocracy within a democracy, with religious laws being enforced by religious police force, they have religious educational centers and are adding more, all of these being funded by the state with revenue from federal allocation! A constitutional democratic federal government funding states theocratic governments! #effingbananarepublic |
