You are wrong if u think that being the best in class means being a good lecturer. If you dont have the passion for your work, you cant be the best. when the missionaires were in nigeria, they produced great minds with little or no infrastructure. so the emphasis should be on recruiting good and passionate lecturers.
Oh really...!? How come off all the hundreds of thousands of graduates we produce annually, we never see the "passionate" ones lining up at the gates of UNIMAID, FEDPONEK, OSISATECH, OAU, LASU or UNILAG to drop their CVs or apply for positions? |
From 31 to 37.9 oh! Before people go begin dey misyarn! |
Due to a number of factors, I am seriously mulling over signing up for online/distance courses to bag an Msc, preferably in any "decent" US-based institution. Is it advisable? How credible are such certifications? Does business world and society at large really regard 'em? Also, I am quite interested in responses from folks who have some form of experience in this regard... Thanks! |
afrodoc: how?Don't make me puke jare... even John O'shea plays center midfield --- the real question is, how many times did he play in centre midfield in his FULL career !? afrodoc: Beckham beats him hands down in crossing ability, passing ability(long and short), free kicks, finishing and general goal scoring ability and of course football IQYou just gotta be kidding me...minus free-kick, there is nothing here that DB beats AV "hands down" in...nothing! IQ kor' Questionnaire ni'!!! |
I'd go for Valencia on the basis of strength, speed, aerial ability, work-rate and versatility. I think he packs a more ferocious shot (but doesn't use often) than Becks and even though he is terribly one-way, he does at least make a conscious effort to get behind his marker unlike Becks! |
dademola: ofcourse giggs was better than becks!! this isnt even debatableNon-debatable...because Giggs is equally a very respected and decorated player, you now take time to assess them based on what they bring to the table! But when you hear Valencia, Walcott, Bale or Jarvis, the first thing that springs to mind is "what has he won or achieved?" |
You are suggesting we end this argument, but yet suggest we start another debate about Giggs and Beckham. I think it'll be better we just forget about it all together. There is no way in hell I will be convinced Valencia is better than Beckham.
On the contrary, I am trying to point out something. I feel the same bro...no way you can convince me the other way too! |
afrodoc: short passing-------beckhamNow this is more like it...if we're going to compare players, this is how I feel it should be done not by the number of laurels they have bagged because, sometimes, many other factors are involved that contribute to a player winning certain awards; it isn't always straightforward. |
Well, the dead cannot defend themselves, or can they!? So its probably very convenient for all "other" parties involved, such an explanation! |
Of course you can't judge a player strictly by individual awards alone. But you must agree it surely does go a long way in telling you if a player is good or not. Check the top10 list of world player of the year nominee since its inception, there is definitely not one bad player on that list, they are all iconic legendary footballer players and Beckham was one of them. Which makes your statement about Tony V (who have been found out and have been practically useless at United for almost two years now) shading Beckham sounds a little delusional, no offense. Being nominated and cracking the top 2 of such prestigious awards as (Fifa World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or) more than once alone should give you a clear indication of the level in which Beckham was playing at. Everyone with eyes knows Riquelme was a very good player at Villarreal. But we shouldn't dismiss the fact that he played and failed at Barcelona (a big European club). If he had succeeded at Barcelona, I have no doubt he would have won or come close to winning some prestigious individual awards. To get recognised in Fifa and UEFA awards you have to be delivering at the highest level of both club or international football, which includes helping your team win trophies. He did neither, hence why he wasn't really recognised in that sense.
Ok. Just to save ourselves... a futile, long-winding argument --- Ryan Giggs vs David Beckham who is the better football player/winger/or however you want to phrase it And also tell me why you personally favour that person...I am not going to debate over choice; but I just want to use it to sort of highlight my take on Becks vs Tony V! |
dademola: and by comparing d "wigan standard" valencia to a 3 time world player of the year nominee, who says d thread isnt a laughing stock already? And that is where the problem lies...remove all the "decorations" amd look at each thoroughly individual from what do or have done with the ball during games --- if possible, watch youtube clips or assess past games. I'm not into stats and who wins the whats, wheres and whys! How different is Beckham from Tony V in terms of ability and what they can or cannot do!? |
Let me chirp in a word or two here... I hear people complaining of 'bad' lecturers... these 'bad' lecturers, are they not product of our already 'decayed' educational and socio-economic system? Did they just fall out of the skies!? Even if we 'import' Cambridge and Oxford lecturers to teach in many our public institutions now, how much do you reckon they will achieve? How will they fare in this clime of our present day citadels? It is depressing to see us squabble amongst ourselves when the people we should be fighting against stand on one side and watch! In my ND days, the son of my HOD was in the same class as I... the daughter of the Rector was two sets above mine... in PGD, the wife of a senior was in my class etc. Now, let me ask... what school does Petroleum Minister's kid attend? The Finance Minister nkor? Arrgh, that is going too far sef... Press Secretary and Special Adviser pikin nkor!? My point...the average lecturer is no better than you and I; they feel the pinch too. The 'real' villains, who do not feel the pinch, we never engage! |
That alone don't get you nominated for the world footballer of the year award no matter how handsome or English you are.... It would seem you did not watch Beckham play during his prime. And by the way, here is how Beckham stacks up against some of the well known best freekick takers in football history. Zico (80) Juninho Pernambucano (75) David Beckham (65) Ronaldinho (61) Alessandro Del Piero (49) Roberto Carlos (38) Maradona (37) Andrea Pirlo (34) Zinedine ZIDANE (26) That doesn't look half decent to me.
Like you've rightly pointed out...there are way too many other factors and variables that determine who gets voted for individual awards. For me, I do not judge based on the individual / team awards of the player but what I can "visibly" see a player do. From where I stand, in terms of ability, Tony V shades it a little over Becks. My personal all-time best footie player, Juan Roman Riquelme, never won a pin, never featured prominently for a 'big' european side, was never prized more than the 'average' player... but I know what he does and can do with the ball at his feet! |
crackhaus: So the question is, would the movie still be getting this much negative attention if it was made by a Hollywood film-maker depicting a Nigerian-themed terrorist organization? This is worth reading again! |
I couldn't help but to reply to this post... It is laughable to suggest Tony V is better than Beckham. Beckham was a certified world class winger, you can't say the same about Tony V. I'm not trying to take anything away from Tony V but he is just not just on Beckham 's level, not for now at least.
Laughable, yes...! But even more laughable when you realise that beyond "crossing the ball" and a "half decent" freekick, there is little else Beckie knows how to do! |
StarBoard: Not ever going to happen. Its going to happen, eventually...DM is just taking his time, easing into it! |
montelik: so I hope some will stop insinuating saf lied about Rooney now that he has all but confirmed last seasons brouhaha.I know Moyes is going to send him out to play wide left at some point this season... waiting to see the sort of response to that! |
afrodoc: the original debate and question was Beckham of 1999(not Beckham at his worst) or Antonio Valencia. It doesn't matter which Beckham...its Tony V anyday. The fact that we are even particular about a certain period of Beckie's career (which we presume to be his best) speaks volumes! |
Hope I am not too late... I'd love to put my money in the pot --- home or away --- no shaking! However, I may need to be intensively schooled on how the "Fantasy League" works --- yeah, don't look at me strange --- I do not have a clue! |
It is just absolutely fantastic how you guys find every single way to take Jose Mourinho out of the line of fire and put on everyone else from Roman Abrahamovic to the ball-boys...! ![]() |
Becks vs. Tony V!? Tony V. for sure... you'd need to have watched Becks at his worst to appreciate why one would rather pitch tent with Valencia. And to think that at some point in his career some managers thought he could do well in a CM role because of his "passing ability" --- well, what else are we to expect, he is afterall, the "English Golden Boy"! |
Feck it... Bendtner... Arsenal's greatest ![]() |
SailorXY: If Moyes can't let him & Zaha develop here talking about loans, then we should change to the 4-1-2-1-2 diamond shikena. We have no wingersIts a long season, plenty games yet... Zaha will get his chance too! |
The passing to retain possession sometimes was very good... But not enough to create clear-cut chances through the middle. One good chance fluffed by RvP came via a strong, direct run and through ball by, believe it or not, Valencia. Something wazza could not muster all game. So far, Moyes has been relatively ok with selecting the squad but he has to be a bit more adventurous and work hard on our offensive game. Perhaps, this is the win that brings that calm which enables the ship to be steadied. Wish we didn't have this international break. |
debosky: So play Kagawa at 10 and Rooney at CFVery funny...did you guys ever bench RVP when he was fit!? |
debosky: Killed what? See jokers comparing Kagawa to players 100 times his superior just to justify a point. That's where you have a problem...nobody is comparing Kagawa with Xavi, Ozil or anybody else outside UTD for that matter! This is a straight argument for Rooney vs Kagawa in the #10 role for Mancheter United. A lot of people seem to favor Shinji because it is a role he is accustomed to; probably even better than Rooney but no one knows for sure until he's given a trial. Tell me, if Arsenal had bought Rooney and Ozil - would you advocate for Ozil to play wide while Rooney held the #10 position? |
coogar: why not put xavi on the left flank and ask him to adapt!!!As in...you killed it here! Nobody is blaming Wazza per se; in fact his energy, work-rate and aggression may even serve the whole team better used out wide. All we are clamoring for, is giving Kagawa a run of games where Rooney currently occupies --- perhaps this may bring about a little change in our style and threat potentials. At the moment, everything we do is way too "one-way" and utterly predictable! |
StarBoard: Rafa's problem was not incompetence but the fact that he had embittered the Chelsea fans by comments he made earlier on.Perhaps it'd help if the manager knew that if he outrightly dropped or played out of position certain "senior" players, the FANS will not get on his case so much. This may be a possible reason holding DM back from making bold, radical changes on the field - it is one thing to do that to a backroom staff, not many of us know and appreciate them as against the players we see regularly in the spotlight. It is very important that pressure isn't heaped on the manager unnecessarily; especially from the folks that ought to be supporting him. This man has a very difficult job and we have to appreciate first and foremost. That said, the onus is on him to win your trust and respect (he already has mine regardless)... and I believe he will come good eventually - these travails only make the triumph at the end much sweeter! |
Regardless...we just have to get behind the manager and the team. Doing a "Chelsea on Rafa" helps no one at all! #ItsAllAboutBELIEVE# |
elampiro: This is not the problem and I don't believe your conspiracy theory.Sarcasm! |
chamotex: --------------- RVPMy sentiments exactly... But the moment Rooney gets moved out of position; his Manager, the press, fans sometimes I even suspect Roy Hodgson and the FA get involved too and start creating so much of a fuss! Moyes needs to be brave and Rooney, professional...in the end, its all for the good of the team! |
