They should discontinue BEE then. Look like objective has been achieved. South Africa blacks have long way to owning their economy. They should aim to own their land and mines first. Most blacks you see in South Africa corporate world are tokenism to satisfy BEE. zhike: |
Yes Kenya, that is giving you very hard time, on google, despite having zero minerals or hydrocarbons. 68816419: |
So the pervasive generators is also a lie. Name one area of Nigeria that enjoys 24hrs of electricity. We have heard horror stories of airports without power. theenchanter: |
Your inane cherrypicking and nitpicking shouldn't be dignified by response. It usual lame excuses. It's small. It's whites and indians. etc etc. But when it comes to our tiny slums - then story changes...they are BIG...even when they are just 2% of Nairobi landmass. Parklands is here....maybe it's small...but it more developed than anything you have in Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZE1Y-e21HM&t=418s 68816419: |
Enugu is not even at Nakuru or Kisumu or Eldoret level. This is Kisumu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl4JfNYYrGs 68816419: |
Nairobi and it's metro size is well known. 68816419: |
Nairobi is world SIX most dynamic city, world 14ths most eco friendly city. Now when it come to kenya - it's right where it need to be in urbanization. You don't urbanize like Nigeria without creating urban economy to create jobs. Those Nigerians hustling in cities should be busy in farms creating wealth. 68816419: |
If it did - Mombasa or Nairobi would be developed city. popizaino: |
They use the dirtiest of fuel you can imagine. The irony. Lagos is always under smog. Kenya has some of the cleanest fuel. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/3E95/production/_91212061_africa_sulphur_2016_5cat_v3.png rationalhuman: |
Country cannot be transformed by few elites. The entire North of Nigeria - 100m - are basically BOKOHARAMS - muslims neaderthdeal refusing to go to school. Nigeria south is better....but the populous and powerful North will drag it down...by generating more and more illiterates in their baby factories Just30: |
I know that. Nigeria would have done well if it stuck to that. But Oil became a curse instead of a blessing. It's destroyed your agricluture. Nigeria as British colony was doing very very well...with world leading export of Palm Oil. Now it's ZERO. When oil goes to zero - Nigerian wakes up - and talk diversity. When oil goes back up - Nigerian get drunk - and go back to merry making chrisooblog: |
Indians don't dominate anything in kenya apart from manufacturing. I hope you understand that kenya economy is very diverse. Those doing well in manufacturing mostly inherited business and grew them. And there are many black industrialist now. Just know we started from the scratch. We don't have Dangote who inherited business from his grand parents. We don't have Kings and Princes who inherited fortunes or merchant class who made tonnes of money before our independence. Under the British racial system in kenya - Africans were not even allowed to plant tea or coffee or even sell their milk - their schooling was curtailed at std 4 - we were supposed to become menial labour for British - and Indians were the merchant class. We could not vote or do anything. So our independence had more significance to us than you. All black kenyans in 1963 began literally from ZERO....and we have done VERY VERY well. Many began without any land because the British had grabbed million acres of land for themselves. chrisooblog: |
You're growing rice - big deal - you're in stage 1 - back to basics. CNN now doing projections I thought it was a new outlet.samorobo: |
Muscle is nothing if there is no investment on their brain. Ask your slaves all over the world that you exported. Nigeria is not investing in education. They have world most kids out of school. Just30: |
If Oil never transfromed Nigeria - what will? People made those projections in 2014 when Oil was going for 100 dollars a barrel and Nigeria was growing by 10%. Nearly all of them must be regretting now. Now imagine a future in 2030 - 10yrs - Oil is gone - definitely by 2040 - it will be out. Nigeria HAS NO FUTURE. Nigeria future is civil war that will split it up. No oil. No Nigeria. The north Sharia is technically seceded. samorobo: |
Maybe a SuperGenerator would help them become a superPower. These tiny generators ![]() Obakillah:

Now you're contradicting yourself. Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa were under DIRECT BRITISH RULE. Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and such countries were indirect rule...there were hardly any British citizen who came there. The British just kidnapped the King favorite son - and kept them in Britain - and told your kings to keep sending them money as they need. In Ghana - they simply threaten to sit on the Golden Stool unless Ghana paid 76B dollars . They never really needed to set foot in Ghana - and rule anybody. Maybe a tiny staff at colonial office in Accra to keep the count of Ghana repartition in gold and palm oil.In Kenya - they found a country without any King or queen to make deal with or threaten - so they basically had come rule the country, farm the land, grow the economy, set up structures and the work. British brought lot of Indians as workers. Indians business - mostly Gujaratis - also came to Kenya to do business - because the system favoured them. You need to understand Gujarati are very very good business men. chrisooblog: |
Yes, Ethiopia can overtake kenya, if they manage their politics well. I cannot say the same about Ghana. Just30: |
You need to understand that current rich Indians in kenya inherited business set up in 1900-1930s by their grand fathers. Pick any example. Manu Chandaria - The Shahs - name them. These are 3rd or 4th generation who found business - and came back with MBAS abroad - to expand them. You indians are fresh of the boat and haven't or will never settle. Those are just poor Indians employed to work. Kenya Indians - are nearly 'indigenous' hence the 44th tribe. Majority of them benefited from British racial systems of colonial period and created business that now thrive. We restricted them to industries and a few such sectors. chrisooblog: |
South Africa is good example for Kenya because of nearly similar nature - They have about 56m people - we are 48M. They are only a relevant example for us. I cannot think of any other more relevant example. Surely Botswana and Namibia...are too tiny. Shma: |
The sooner they accept that they are in famous 'middle class' trap the better for them. They are going nowhere. They are just waiting for countries to overtake them. Not without serious reforms on their education system and all the other issues. jln115: |
It's sacrilege to imagine anybody can overtake them. But I see they are now praising Nigeria . Some alliance we are seeing today.Shma: |
They should be aiming for Joburg to be London. And their country to transition into developed world like Mauritus just did. Mauritus just became Africa's first developed country. But they know things are THICK and hence their frustrations. While we are aiming to be be middle class country ( Vision 2030) - with GDP per capita of 4,000-5,000 - they have NO VISION. They are stuck in vicious middle class circle like Latin/South America countries without any escape. And worse they may even regress back to Sub Sahara Standards. Shma: |
They are already feeling the heat - they know their country is going down - and Kenya is coming up very fast. Rwanda is aiming to be Singapore. Shma: |
Sounds very brilliant. Population wise - Ethiopia and DRC will be 2nd and 3rd in my view. jln115: |
I can feel the pain all the way here. 2005 - South Africa GDP - 257.8 billion USD (2005) - 468B in favourite PPP. 2005 - Kenya GDP - 18B Fast forward 15yrs now - South Africa GDP is expected to be around the same place - or we can use 2019 (358 - 800B in PPP) Kenya GDP is expected to have risen to 98B - or around 230B in PPP. If you have done any simple projection - you can predict what will happen in 2030 jln115: |
You're wrong. Most of the Indians left with whites en-masse. The white basically nearly all bolted out in 1962. The Indians stayed for a few years but by 1967 - they had mostly left for Britain and Canada. At indepedence we had 180,000 indians. In 1965 - we gave them an option to renounce the British citizenship - 50,000 refused and chose to relocate to Britain. In 1967 - we began Africanization of the economy - immediately there was an exodus of 23,000 indians. Part of Africanization - was to ban Indians from engaging in many business and in many areas. The Kenyan Africanization policy forced Britain to establish the 1968 Commonwealth Immigrants Act - and we forced out I think thousands more Indians to Britain...that were insisting on holding the British passport. And we were left with about 100,000 indians who choose to be Kenyan citizen- now grown to 150,000 . Those Indians mostly went to manufacturing because there were no restriction in there. Now they are indeed very wealthy and proud citizens. They are our 44th tribe. https://www.nation.co.ke/kenya/life-and-style/dn2/asians-face-mass-expulsion-to-britain-as-africanisation-starts-880578 Tanzania decided to go communism and basically grabbed (nationalized) all Indian properties. Uganda basically woke up one day and gave Indians 3 months to get out. Now Nigeria has what 1M indians and you want to tell us about Indians owning our economy.chrisooblog: |
We are exactly 15yrs from South Africa. I cannot say the same about Nigeria. You will never get there. I mean what more would Nigeria need if 1 trillion dollars from Oil never changed your fortunes. Kenya we will do it without any minerals. samorobo: |
Nairobi was recently named 14th world most eco-friendly city in the world. South Africa best city - Cape Town - came at 50. What do you think we will lack. We just need to replace the slums with parks; and move slum dwellers to high rises buildings - and Nairobi will be as good as any city in the developed world. Despite the poverty and hard economic times - Nairobi has managed to remain a decent city except for Eastland. Right now Nairobi Management just ordered folks to repaint in the original approved colors. Our planning approval is strictly adhered to. https://citizentv.co.ke/news/nairobi-metropolitan-services-orders-repainting-of-all-buildings-in-the-county-340243/ samorobo: |
Now you're an expert on all things South Africa. South Africa is going down. They have grown at zero % before COVID and minerals are drying up. Kenya is growing very fast...so fast we cannot keep up. 6th world most dynamic (fastest growing) city and only one in Africa. samorobo: |
Speak for Nigeria.Upperhill and westland are turning from low rise residential areas to high rise - and the street level infrastructure - paving and the works is work in progress. Otherwise Nairobi old CBD is pretty decent. Upperhill, westland and kilimani will soon get here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDOY56sFR1I&t=53s samorobo: |
