Kenya, South Africa and other such countries with planned cities have prominient slums becauseit easy to know what a slum is - you entire cities are slums in my opinion - with few nice places. Nairobi masterplan was being copied by Singapore in 1960s!

I wish this was not true - but outside Abuja, maybe Port Harcourt & part of Lagos - the rest of your cities are slums. KANO city is world biggest slum city in my opinion. And that opinion I formed in early 90s when I was a kid and I first saw KANO city on CNN...I am yet to see such an expansive 4M city of slums. Kibera is barely 5Kms square...in Nairobi or Mombasa slum occupy 5% of the land...ILLEGALLY established in forests, valleys and other gov reserved land.

Do you even in Nigeria have building approvals? or anyone just erect anything anywhere.

There are many planned neighborhoods in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, etcetera but that can't be said of Kenyan's cities

I don't think you can compare Mombasa with any slum cities of Nigeria. Mombasa based on many stats I have seen is equivalent to their very expensive Lego city Abuja.

Mombasa is kenya's port and tourist city.

And Mombasa is anything as old as 12th Cenutry.

Nairobi is pretty much the prefered HQ for multinationals - Joburg doesn't seem to work - it's not centrally located and is not really at the heart of Africa. As for Lagos - first sort out basics like STABLE ELECTRICITY.

What GDP - VW went there, established an assembling plant in Lagos and last year they sold ONLY 40 cars in the whole of Nigeria. If you look at their slum cities consisting of really rusted iron sheets - do you think those poor people can afford to pay taxes - if they cannot afford a decent roof?
