It's natural. Nigeria,Ethiopia, DRC and Tanzania have always been the big laggards dragging down Sub-Sahara Africa. Ethiopia under Meles Zenawi trans-formative regime basically removed Ethiopia from that list and if Abbiy doesn't get assassinated or overthrown will set Ethiopia roaring higher. The prognosis for the rest of laggards - DRC, Tanzania & Nigeria - remain bleak as always. I think you're as myopic as KaziKazi and TZ leadership. If there is anything you should already have learn by now is that natural resources - including 2m barrels of oil per annum - is nothing compared to human resources. South Korea produces no oil - and yet thanks to it's refineries it export more oil than Nigeria. Tanzania has Mt Kilimanjaro and other natural resources - but here they are crying about kenya out-marketting them .

Again if Nigeria and TZ focussed on it's most important asset - their human beings - they won't be in such mess. Tanzania won't be fearing Kenya which is half it's size and mostly semi-arid. Nigeria won't be fearing Ghana - a very tiny country compared to them - leave alone being terrified to join Africa Free Trade.

Kenya has done extremely well without natural resources by focusing early on on human capital - educating and investing in it's people.

The greatest natural resource is human resource. Focus on that - and you will start progressing. That I think is the enduring lesson from this thread. Kenya has clearly beaten Nigerian (Tanzania doesn't deserve a mention unless you're ignorant or deranged) - yet we have no oil (at least yet on production), no gold, no uranium,no diamonds, not much land, name it - by focusing on it's people - and has grown a well diversified economy that is on 6% plus auto-pilot every year.

That is what makes Kenya,Ghana & Rwanda unique - in Africa where countries mostly rely on natural resources. And that explain why Africa is so poor despite all the natural resources.

This is just like Nigeria and other West Africans. I always wonder what we Nigerians stand to gain from other West Africans in a union. Well, in our case, I think LANDMASS. Other parts of West Africa have a larger landmass than Nigeria (Most of these lands are deserts afterall).

He is not far off the mark - I see kenya starting to seriously challenge south africa in a decade- and possibly overtaking it decade and half. South Africa future prognosis is not great...at best they will be happy with 2% growth the next decade..at worse they could even go into a tailspin & recession if the drum of land wars continue beating.

Just look what he did to nigeria and zambia put these countries in massive debt. At least Tanzania pay the peanuts. Nigerians don't often get paid - it usual to find an employee with salary areas running months if not years. Those working for state gov especially. Leave alone pensioners. The nearest you can get such a situation is DRC. Nigerians have to wait for oil boom to get salary arrears - and when oil prices tank - the teeth gnashing starts.

The reason why some companies goes for a Kenyan employee is just the costs.Its cheaper for a Tanzanian company to employ a Kenyan than a local guy.Most of these Kenyans who work in Tz don't have protection.No Nssf,no medical fund,and mostly they even be paid in envelopes. One reason why we don't sea eye to eye in architecture with Nigerians is that we don't go around putting up concrete monstrosities calling them magnificent buildings! Our structures look more Scandanavian and we give more detail to greenery,simplicity and functionality! This mall in Nigeria could have been a huge soulless box concrete structure with no flowers and lawns at all!

I think some were done in the past - what I recall Kenya was second to Mauritius. Definitely we invest heavily in education and this will pay off. I think we are now spending 4-5B dollars on education annually - Nigeria the whole damned nation - cannot even spend half that.
