Nairobi - Westland CBD - is starting to rival Upperhill & City Center https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1915/30240883917_d30b3dbe2e_b.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1900/44714392432_437c475f8c_o.jpg |
The siamese twins -Nigeria & Tanzania- in Ease of Doing Business are ranked 144 & 146 respectively...while Kenya is ranked 61 - 4th in Africa - just one rank below Morocco. This made possible by modern gov service centers like this all over the country https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cv2gwTMXgAAnH1E.jpg

It's natural. Nigeria,Ethiopia, DRC and Tanzania have always been the big laggards dragging down Sub-Sahara Africa. Ethiopia under Meles Zenawi trans-formative regime basically removed Ethiopia from that list and if Abbiy doesn't get assassinated or overthrown will set Ethiopia roaring higher. The prognosis for the rest of laggards - DRC, Tanzania & Nigeria - remain bleak as always. Tanzania was turning the corner with visionary Jakaya Kikwete but the current Magufuli is turning them back to Nyerere days. Nigeria - poor Nigeria! - you see the kind of leadership they've got and their alternatives - and you just shake your head - Bubu the walking dead current pork is competing by a similarly dull if not super corrupt opposition. DRC is a gone case. Kur17: |
So says a Least Developed Country that depend 50% of their budget on donors comparing itself with a middle-income country that finances 99% of it's budget - which is bigger than combined budget of East Africa countries. In nearly every indicator of progress and development - Kenya is always almost top 5 in Africa - and Tanzania is almost always bottom 5 in Africa. You're delusional and myopic. Kazikazi: |
I think you're as myopic as KaziKazi and TZ leadership. If there is anything you should already have learn by now is that natural resources - including 2m barrels of oil per annum - is nothing compared to human resources. South Korea produces no oil - and yet thanks to it's refineries it export more oil than Nigeria. Tanzania has Mt Kilimanjaro and other natural resources - but here they are crying about kenya out-marketting them .Again if Nigeria and TZ focussed on it's most important asset - their human beings - they won't be in such mess. Tanzania won't be fearing Kenya which is half it's size and mostly semi-arid. Nigeria won't be fearing Ghana - a very tiny country compared to them - leave alone being terrified to join Africa Free Trade. Kenya has done extremely well without natural resources by focusing early on on human capital - educating and investing in it's people. The greatest natural resource is human resource. Focus on that - and you will start progressing. That I think is the enduring lesson from this thread. Kenya has clearly beaten Nigerian (Tanzania doesn't deserve a mention unless you're ignorant or deranged) - yet we have no oil (at least yet on production), no gold, no uranium,no diamonds, not much land, name it - by focusing on it's people - and has grown a well diversified economy that is on 6% plus auto-pilot every year. That is what makes Kenya,Ghana & Rwanda unique - in Africa where countries mostly rely on natural resources. And that explain why Africa is so poor despite all the natural resources. Nowenuse: |
He is not far off the mark - I see kenya starting to seriously challenge south africa in a decade- and possibly overtaking it decade and half. South Africa future prognosis is not great...at best they will be happy with 2% growth the next decade..at worse they could even go into a tailspin & recession if the drum of land wars continue beating. Jonraid: |
Look like Westland/parkland/musuem hills is already a bigger cbd - than city center - but upperhill certainly leading with uniquely designed super-talls. Kur17: |
Kenya will be his deathbed if he doesnt ran without his shirt. It appears after hitting a brick wall when kenya gov told him there were no freebies he engineered with his financiers Ecobank the take over of ARM company.Ecobank basically gave ARM measily 5m dollars loan and at first sign of trouble they put them in receivership and will hawk it to evil Dangote.ARM were already working out something but Ecobank basically put the brakes. But kenya is no joke.He will cry real tears.Kenyans have dealt with Dangote the last 10yrs and understand he cant compete without freebies..free land..tax holiday..and such concession. We told him to hit the road but now it appears he will buy a struggling cement co and the music will start for Dangote.I think he should be let in so he can understand kenya is different kettle fish sufferNsmiling: |
The data of donors and investors fleeing your country is Google away. They are worried about an unstable president running a country like it was mom & pop shop.I think you're looking at lagging indicators..the leading indicators are your economy is going down.As regards China that obviously is not true.I am not sure there exist a such a country.Leadership is not one of strongest skill set for scientist and if a country was to try that route it would go down first..that why most leaders are MBA types, lawyers and liberal arts coz theyve the people management skills.I mean Magufuli has his strengths..he seems to abhor corruption and has an admirable work ethic completely alien in his country. Suffice to say he should be disciplined and stick to fighting TZ legendary laziness and graft...but he is all over the map Kazikazi: |
You do realize how stupid you sound or maybe you're as obtuse as most Nigerians here.I mean it's hard to find a Kenyan who sounds as boneheaded as you, many Nigerians and Magufuli.Poor education just manifest itself.Political science is what Magufuli urgently need now.Investors are fleeing..don't cherry pick one report with lagging indicators.. Tanzania is going down.Donors are turning down your begging bowls.Nobody likes a mercurial leader who is making policy on the go.That unpredictability is killing your country.Magufili is turning the country that had ccm as strong political institution into one man dictatorship like Uganda or Rwanda. And you're cheering. And finally calling yourself Doctor coz of PhD is sleazy.Ethiopia pm has PhD and doesn't call himself Dr.That title is reserved for medical profession.Magufuli is a chemistry PhD who is ill prepared to ran the country. He maybe incorruptible but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.Ask Mugabe and Zim.He should ask Uhuru for crash course of running a country..it not the same as running a shop or driving a tractor. It require political science. And social science are also science. Kazikazi: |
Precisely. You have to pity these guys. Tanzania our lazy neighbour seem to be doing better with their maize & beans. That is something. I think they are competing with DRC, Niger and Chad in the race to the bottom. gallivant: |
High school teacher of Chemistry is not a scientist. You cannot compare this high school teacher idiot with Uhuru Kenyatta who went Amhrest.Amhrest is top IVY league university for Liberal arts.Amhrest is world leading liberal arts college that shapes thinkers. Now your fool who is all over the map trying to micro manage everything got his dodgy degrees from Dar University and is unmitigated disaster. The WB and donors are already suspending AID and yet your budget is 50% AID.Investors are running away. This going to be a disaster because he has crushed the opposition and will stay for long...wrecking the country longer Kazikazi: |
I think they should be about 4 now in Nairobbo - including apartments. Jay254: |
Yes data look dodgy - except for kenya and south africa. Angola budget should be around 45-50B. Not 120B. Algerian1: |
Egypt & Algeria appear too small - Nigeria the zoo is just about regressing. Kenya will certainly double it's revenue collection in next 5yrs. mtisTheQubit: |
At least Tanzania pay the peanuts. Nigerians don't often get paid - it usual to find an employee with salary areas running months if not years. Those working for state gov especially. Leave alone pensioners. The nearest you can get such a situation is DRC. Nigerians have to wait for oil boom to get salary arrears - and when oil prices tank - the teeth gnashing starts. Leroy19: |
I think we can resolve this beauty contest easily by looking at awards won by your hotels and ours. You'd think this was a render .Please Kenya is so far ahead of Nigeria in matters architectural and so many other things.forgiveness:
|
That is lame. One flight ticket alone would cover NSSF/Medical for 100 Tanzania employees. That is how desperate your companies esp foreign owned are for kenya proffesional. Your workforce is not only poorly educated, they are also lazy and have zero work ethic. Kazikazi: |
Poor Radisson Blue - Is that the best hotel they could get in Abuja. Here is Radisson Blue Nairobi. I know beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder - but surely your architect ought to go back to school pronto. https://i2.wp.com/aluochbonnita.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Exterior.jpg?resize=1024%2C640&ssl=1 forgiveness: |
They are doing basic "kayole" type designs. You have to question the quality of their architects and builders. Leroy19: |
I think some were done in the past - what I recall Kenya was second to Mauritius. Definitely we invest heavily in education and this will pay off. I think we are now spending 4-5B dollars on education annually - Nigeria the whole damned nation - cannot even spend half that. kikuyu1: |
Why are using all means to block kenyan proffesional from working in TZ. It's your poor education system that make your labour force noncompetitive and allow South Africans to ran roughshold over you and Nigerians . If TZ companies were allowed to hire kenyans - they would fire the whole lot of you. Again you cannot nitpick exams questions - and use that judge our education systems. There are many metrics & indicators. Some are done by surveys. Most are real life - Kenyan proffesional are highly regarded!! Education is like GDP. You cannot inflate it like Nigeria and get away with it. Our engineering and science graduates are all over your country dodging immigration officers because that price Tanzania companies are willing to go...than hiring an idiot from Tanzania who cannot comprehend BASIC ENGLISH. My friend is somewhere in Serengeti now dodging TZ immigration as they design and build hotels for foreign companies. When kenya well educated workforce shine - you comeback and claim - ohoo they love to kiss the arse of whites - that is why? No! They are well educated and prepped for 21st century competitive labour market.Kazikazi: |
Villa Rosa Kempinsiki Nairobi presidential suite will set you at nearly 10M naira! I think we are wasting time here - I can debate South Africa or Egypt or even Tanzania on hotels - all your hotels are totally crap - infact the half decent one is single one I saw in Lagos. Now you're showing an average looking hotel? Just use booking.com as clue - Nigeria has 1,280 listed hotels - Kenya has 2,600 - more than twice your listed hotels. forgiveness: |
Even if you must built boxes and straight lines - at least make it as decent as Crowne Plaza Nairobi https://www.africanmeccasafaris.com/wp-content/uploads/crowneplazahotelnairobi1.jpg https://www.kenyatraveltips.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/4-star-nairobi-hotel.jpg |
Are you finding trouble seeing them in Booking.com? For example - this new hotel - Villa Rosa Kempiniski Nairobi- maybe 4 yrs old - but was designed with victorian feel https://www.traveldiscoverkenya.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/kempinski-feature.jpg https://www.discoveryloyalty.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/files/gha-images/brands/kempinski/villa-rosa-kempinski-nairobi/villarosakempinski_exterior02/4995151-1-eng-GB/VillaRosaKempinski_Exterior02_banner_image.jpg https://awscloudfront.kempinski.com/1056/villa-rosa-kempinski-outside-full-silverstripe.jpg The presidential suite here - will set you at nearly 10M naira per night. https://nairobiwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/vil.jpg forgiveness: |
You're delusional - and this is probably the first decade you're seeing branded hotels in Nigeria - hence the excitement. Kenya is miles ahead in hotel & hospitality. But South Africa & Egypt are are way farther ahead. In Nigeria box hotels - all you hear the whole night is the din of GENERATOR NOISE. forgiveness: |
KaziKazi - Kenya education systems - is AFRICA BEST - san Mauritus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It also reflect in our Africa BEST HUMAN CAPITAL - our workers are africa smartest and most hardworking. That is why we are africa largest non-mineral economy and are kicking arse of these poor Nigerian despite them exporting 2M plus barrels of OIL anually. To get a sense of Kenya’s historical overperformance, consider the 2007 results of standardised tests for sixth graders conducted by the Southern and East African Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality. Kenya’s average score was 557 points. That’s well above South Africa’s average of 495 points. Kenyan children’s basic literacy and numeracy skills were stronger than South Africa’s. Here are you masters South Africa - trying to figure out how to ape Kenya quality education https://www.biznews.com/africa/2018/03/05/south-africa-kenya-education-schooling |
If you had gone through decent education like most kenyans - you'd know there many ways to compare education systems btw countries - and least of all is using high school maths exam. Such comparative studies exists. PISA tests have been done..Kenya was second to Mauritus. Kazikazi: |
Please try something else. You cannot compare Kenya hotel industry to Nigeria. In star-rated branded hotels alone we have about 20,000 rooms, south africa 60,000 and Nigeria! poor Nigeria is struggling with 7,000 rooms!!!!!!!!!!! We have brand new hotels every year - so I don't know what you mean outdated hotels. Our buildings are generally better designed than your basic flat hotels. South Africa is the guys we look up to in hotel and many other stuff. Nigeria! forgiveness: |
Hehehe. At least Nigeria for all it's woes have a decent education.Tanzania.Come on idiot.99 percent of your kids enter high school without basic comprehension of English..the language of instruction.Kazikazi you probably learnt everything you know in South Africa and you're the brightest in that dull country.Tanzania talking about education..hahaha..or it hohoho |
I know you're excited about few hotels you recently got but in SSA and talking of branded hotels alone..South Africa leads by far with 450..Kenya has 68..and poor Nigeria 58.Lets not talk about lodges, boutique hotels and resorts.Nairobi alone boast of 2 or 3 Hiltons and biggest in African is under development..this will be a 45 floor Hilton..adding to the existing 20 floor Hilton. |
There is nothing unique about that.Every country has its layers.Kenya has counties and local gov with their budgets.South Africa provinces.Nigeria budget including states who mostly depend on federal allocation aka oil money is less than kenya.Just about every country has some forms of federalism or devolution or decenteralisation.
I hate when foreigners assume about Nigeria. What you have there is only the federal budget. Now The budget of the various state is 100% independent of federal budget as is that of 774 local government of Nigeria So you have to add all 3 of them to get the total budget Federal + state(36) + local government (774) +Federal capital territory ( FCT Abuja)
|
