TravelRe: So Many Young Men in Nigeria Planning to go to the US by sage(m): 4:02am On Dec 23, 2005
Personally, i dont blame anybody that wants to exit Naija. it is a personal choice and its up to individuals.

In the west, there is no malnutrition, and ther is basic infastructure and law and order, sooooooo..... Its hard making a transition in anything. but with time it gets better.

Bottom line is u can make ur money where u feel u want to, be it naija or anywhere. In my own case, i spent the last 10 yrs of my stay in naija dreaming of my exit day, so i guess it boils down to individuals.

Guyz the fundamental problem Nigeria has, and one which confuses people is the mentality that we are only 45 years. Beign 45yrs is not the issue. Take a look at economic development in nigeria in those 45yrs and compare it to other countries in which the British union jack was lowered at about the same time esp the asian countries. When the british left malaysia and then Nigeria, their per capita incomes was about the same, almost exactly the same. If u check economic development of these 2 countries, 1970's would show u nigeria was way ahead . By 2000, nigeria had slided into mediocraty but these asian economies had turned to tigers. IF U LOOK AT THE ECONOMY OF SINGAPORE AND MALAYSIA, U WILL SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A STEADY ECONOMIC GROWTH SINCE THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND NOT A DOWNWARD FREE FALL BEIGN EXCUSED BY BEIGN 45YRS. MALAYSIA HAS ONLY BEEN INDEPENDENT FROM BRITAIN FOR ABOUT 47 OR 48 years YET THEY ARE AN INDUSTRALIZED ECONOMY NOW. SINGAPORE IS IN THE SAME LEVEL WITH JAPAN,  USA, GERMANY etc infact, people from Singapore DONT NEED VISA'S to come to the U.S. Y because. the U.S goverment knows they would not want to stay. People from Malaysia do not migrate to western countries simply because their countries economy is very good. They come to the west as TOURISTS

We should ask ourselves these questions

These same countries that are about the same age as Nigeria have recorded steady and unbelievable economic growth over the last 35yrs, y is Nigeria's a case of economic free fall?

Were these same nations not colonized by the british?(in case we want to blame colonalization)

Please you guys shouldnt even start talking about the blues/ barca march.
It's going to be a tough one and very interesting to watch. It'll be war.
The Blues might have a chance if the world player and the 2nd runner up to the world player don't play.
Did I hear someone laugh?

i think Chelsea would readilly agree to that deal - exclude ronaldinho and Lampard.

Ultimately, i think the biggest bad news is 4 Man U b/cos an early exit from the champions league (which is what it is going to be) would turn all chelsea's attention to the league and remove any chance of Man u wrestling it from them.

In my own opinion, we can analyse this in two ways.... for the woman; a man with a child could easil be taken in their stride especially if the child in question is not living with him and his upkeep does not make a huge impact on him (Financially, emotional and time-wise).
For the Man; A lady with a child could be looked at in two main ways :- out-of-wedlock or in-wedlock. Most (Should I say immature) men find it difficult to tolerate the either case but would settle for the second faster than the first. (Correct me if an wrong).

For me it would make no difference if she has a child or not. The most important thing is our abillity to understand each other. But i must say she has to be outright with it. No need hiding it as if it is a crime. There is nothing wrong with it. Afterall it is an issue because she decided to keep it if she aborted it "I" might never know so why make a mountain out of a mole hill ??

i think they are confusing two things. The bill did not abolish DV lottery. Check the BBC website for the full content of that bill. They suspended enacting the guest worker program, not abolish DV. I think the two are different.

WesleyanA:
are you just trying to get attention? or you're just being ignorant?
@ WesleyanA did u not read the later parts of my post. I said it is unfortunate women are seen in that light. When you get older, you would understand what i mean the more. You have been born into a Man's world, and although i dont go by that school of thought, the society u live in defines the role of a woman, and in most places around the world, there are things men are allowed to do women are not. These are not my personal thoughts. As u grow older, u will get to experience a few things. I dont think any man thinks that women are mentally of intellectually more limited than men, but the truth is that those facts not withstanding, the primary attributes men put to women are mainly of a sexual nature.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Gender Inequality ("Men Always Like To Be Domineering") by sage(m): 7:51pm On Dec 18, 2005
Regarding Gender equality, i doubt if there will ever be anything like that, maybe empowerment, but not equality.

A guy once used this expression on national tv and if u look at it, there are elements of truth in it. Women will FOREVER be primarily sexual objects and thats the way it is going to alwayz be. Y because the dominant gender sees them and will alwayz see them that way.

Unfortunate though.

Geez:
If my child walks to you and says I'm gay, s/he should walkout and say s/he is not. This is the trash that the west market and it has no bearing on the great Africa land, except few twisted Africans who buy in to the craps being marketed in the west.

I encourage parent to sit their children down as often and as frequently as possible and teach them culture that has value - the African culture. The west just do not know their origin and they have no culture - like rabbits and dogs. It is shame on humanity. You do not have to be a christian or muslim to know this.

This is not about intolerance or hatred, it is about common sense.
I hate it when people refer to westerners in this way. I hate the attitude of 'we africans are better than westerners, and i hate people with that attitude.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to justify the lack of maintenance. But even given these problems, flying is still by far the safest mode of transportation.
I agree with you. Nigerian roads are much worse. Thieves, potholes, accident causing damaged cars left on the road for months,........................................ cant continue to name them.
TravelRe: Many Die in Nigerian Plane Crash (Sosoliso) by sage(m): 3:32pm On Dec 13, 2005
Very sad story.
These kind of accidents will continue to happen as long as we continue to have this 'it is God's will', "God gives,God takes,", in all things Give glory to God".

Can somebody tell me how a plane that almost crashed in its immediate previous flight was allowed to take off with such a non chalent attitude about its condition? Maybe God denied the plane maintenance so that the people will die? If this crash were to happen in the west, so many heads will roll, but in Nigeria we will say 'it is God's will, pray 4 the aviation industry, and then we keep praying till the next time another plane crashes and we repeat the same it was God's will till still another plane crashes.
Its time to stand up and act fellows. By proper maintenance we can cut the air disasters 6 fold.
TravelRe: We Miss Nigeria Because by sage(m): 3:52am On Dec 12, 2005
i dont think i really miss Nigeria. i dont know. maybe my friends and the food, otherwise i dont know what else i am missing
(i am surely not missing the bad roads, insecurityand fear, epileptic power supply, busy bodies and back biters, harder economic stress, disorganization, corpses on the streets for weeks, public executions and beatings, broken down public infastructure, chaos, petrol ques and genral suffer-suffer of the masses etc).
Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Bimbo Odukoya in Sosoliso Plane Crash by sage(m): 8:21pm On Dec 11, 2005
We must stop the attitude of thinking that we can avert incidents like this by our own will power. Just about 4 days ago a plane did crash into an adjourning street of a Chicago airport. Report did confirmed that the plane underwent maintenaince not more than 4 days to the crash day. Does that mean that they don't maintain their stuffs.

Things like this are beyond human comprehension, we can only pray to God to save us from situations like this.

Safety is only in God's hand.

            by Joftech

Yeah prayers help, but that does not cover the fact that we need to overhaul the way our aviation industry is run. IN THE UNITED STATES, THERE ARE MORE THAN 35,000 FLIGHTS DAILY. I mean DAILY. but how many flight crashes do we hear about?
Also steps are taken to prevent two aircrafts from crashing for the same reason. All flights are mandatorily mainted to an established standard.

As humans we have to do our own part and then we can pray for mercy. You cannot have a 35yr old plane that is rumbling in the air and then start praying.

This is really a sad day 4 nigeria and especially the families involved.
