Politics › Re: Only The Youths Can Save Nigeria, But They Are All In Prison by sageb: 7:31pm On Apr 25, 2021
ModestGal:
The only people that can save this country is her youths, but unfortunately, 70% of those worthy youths are in Prison. And the prison is Nigerian Universities.
Our Universities only breed cowards, our university lecturers only instill fears in students. Even the course they teach has no benefit for the students, most of them will still learn handskills before they feed

I'm so angry about slashing the House officers salary, I'm thinking about how the poor people in public hospitals would fare now, because they are the ones that would suffer all these. What about the pregnant one's, those about to give birth.
The house officers/residents does the bulk of jobs in hospitals.
How about kidnapping here and there? So many problems already but the government is happy creating more traumas

The only people that can help are the Youths, meanwhile, they are in Nigerian Universities enslaved, they are so suppressed that they can't even voice out.
What lecturers do to students is to kill their confidence, subdue them to traumatic experiences and make them loose their identities. If you choose not to, then you face consequences of being rusticated, or punished by the school system. All these training, makes them become WEAK naturally and they loose the power to fight for their rights.
And the most painful part is that, after everything, this same Youths would still need to learn 6months skills before they can feed, most of them will eventually feed in an area that has nothing to do with what they studied in universities. What is now the essence of the traumas they experience while in universities? The stress? The subjugation? The threats? The unending assignments? etc
The only education left in these many youths after graduation is FEAR and cowardice

Am I saying Education is bad? Nah, I'm only saying our higher education is doing more waste to people's time than good.
it's modestgal again, always on point.

Bill Gates enrolled at Harvard College in 1973 to study pre-law but also studied mathematics and took a graduate-level computer science course.

He left Havard after two years. He is not an illiterate, he had a formal education.

After high school, Vitalik B attended the University of Waterloo. There, he took advanced courses and was a research assistant.

The richest man in the world today,
Jeff Bezos, does have a degree and from a very prestigious university. He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Alon Musk graduated with an undergraduate degree in economics and stayed for a second bachelor's degree in physics. After leaving Penn, Musk headed to Stanford University in California to pursue a PhD in energy physics.

Mark Zuckerberg Due to his early signs of success, his parents got him a computer programming tutor while he was still in high school, and they enrolled him in a prep school in New Hampshire. After graduating from prep school, Zuckerberg enrolled at Harvard University. He left Havard after is sophomore year to focus on Facebook.

Benard Arnault, the third richest man in the world, graduated from the École Polytechnique in Paris with a degree in engineering.

Hmmm. FST is a core agriculture discipline

Op can u define FST?

The Institute of Food Technologists defines food science as "the discipline in which the engineering, biological, and physical sciences are used to study the nature of foods, the causes of deterioration, the principles underlying food processing, and the improvement of foods for the consuming public".
you should consider the context which I classified FST as an agricultural discipline. we have food engineering in faculty of engineering.

FST in most of the first generation universities is in the faculty of engineering especially OAU and UI. OAU was the first institution to start the course in Nigeria 50years ago and was established under the Faculty of Engineering. Don’t know why is under the Faculty of Agriculture in some schools knowing fully well that FST can’t be studied without studying the engineering aspect of it.
this your analysis does not hold. in my alma mater and others in the south, food science and technology is in faculty of agriculture whereas food engineering is in faculty of engineering. FST is a core agriculture discipline.

MisterRuk:
It's poverty
Have you been to ghettos, slums or low income areas? You will notice that negative values spreads easily, there is always violence, prostitution, frequent sexual immorality, child abuse, easy circulation of hard drugs, envy, environmental pollution, noise pollution, overpopulation, mediocrity. You will realize that poverty weaponizes religion, especially dark religious doctrines. Poverty breeds corruption, war, tyranny, crime and more poverty etc. In a state of poverty people easily forgo their independent thoughts and cling to tribal mindsets, these "tribes" could be ethnic groups, religion, political parties, ideologies etc, and they tend to see people who do not belong in their "tribe" as enemies, forgetting these people are also human beings like themselves. Poverty sometimes is not the lack of money, its the lack of the physical and mental resources to provide an ideal human living condition. All forms of poverty, both mental and physical is characterized by a craving for something they feel is missing from their lives as a complete human be it money or even sex. And this state reduces one into an animal, that they will join the dark side to get it.
What Nigeria and many third world countries suffer from is poverty, and the best ways to handling poverty is through economics, not politics. But it's surprising that most of our leaders and activists seldom talk about economic development, because even human right and free speech thrives where there is a strong economy.
you are right , like karl marx said" the first historical act is the production of material life itself.

This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
