Anyone that has bothered to study development will know that Peter Obi is right. However, most Nigerians are oblivious to developmental steps and strategies.
The problem with Nigerians is that we are OK with wrong things, Nigeria have not had it well with the economy since Soludo, Ngozi, Sanusi and the other Yoruba minister of finance during Obasanjo govt left their posts, what we have now are politicians making Economic policies for us.

Imagine Osibanjo making Economic policies for Nigeria.

I now understand what you mean by mining. You mean mining for local industries as against mining to collect rent. I am still not convinced as mining is prone to abuse. Since we do not possess the machinery, technical knowhow and refining capacity to process mined materials to usable materials, we will still have to depend on the Chinese and Indians to mine for us. And you know how these people are degrading the people and the environment in other parts of Africa.

I will prefer we import raw materials from and recycle for now. There is an enormous potential in recycling old materials into new raw materials. Even the recycling industry is dominated by Chinese and Indians. I will prefer Tinubu or Peter Obi talks about building manpower and skills apart from infrastructures essential for development.
The reason you see mining to collect rent as normal is the same reason we see selling our oil field or renting our oil field is normal.

If Nigeria is developed, we shouldn't be allowing China ans India to mine our resources,.

You are right on the man power development, and we also need seasoned entrepreneurs in most of this sectors.

Steel mining isn't developing here because of cheaper imports of the same steel.
It's not government's place to make steel available for industry, let the private sector handle that if they can.
I also don't think we aren't manufacturing a great deal because of lack of mining capacities.
There are great nations out there that don't even have steel deposits.
How then did they do it?
Only thing they need to fix is power.
No sir, those great nations you are talking about have the technology and man power, they get raw materials from undeveloped countries at a very cheap price, process it and sell their finished goods to the same undeveloped countries at higher price.

For Nigeria to fully develop, it must break this chain, how will the country so this? It must invest in man power development.

Nigeria needs to develop it raw materials sector, produce and consume what it produce.

Africa countries tried to break this chain with the "New International Economic order" without success.

The poster above me who talked about man power development is very right.

Listen to me, I don't do argument of sentiments and ignorance here, check my comments on Nairaland.

Now tell me how railways built by Ameachi have improved the economy?

I know what railways do to a country economy, as a means of transportation, railway is important because it facilities easy movement of raw materials and finished goods for the manufacturers and farmers alike.

When being developed, it creates heavy revenue for the state.

Now, has Nigeria benefitted the aforementioned since Ameachi bought coaches that travels from Abuja to Kaduna?

Go to countries like China and India and see how railways are being used. Today transporting a 100kg bag of rice from Adamawa state to Lagos state is more than 5000 naira, and they say we have railways, so what is the UAE of the said railways.

I doubt if you have entered these rail coaches because the last time I checked, only Abuja to Kaduna route is currently functional.

I agree with with except your mention of the mining sector. Mining has always been exploitative and destructive in nature. Foreigners (Chinese and Europeans) will just continue to exploit and destroy our people and environment, while our people (governments, communities and youths) will to kill each other to collect rent. That's what has brought sub-Saharan Africa to its present sorry state.

What we need is education. Technical, entrepreneural and scientific education. We must encourage research in other to solve our own problems instead of hopelessly depending on outsiders. We must convert from being consumers to producers.
For you to develop the manufacturering sector, you must develop the power and mining sector. Where will the manufacturers get raw materials from. Ask innoson how much has spend on steel, Dangote how much he spends to get lime stone. These raw materials should be made available and easy to get by manufacturers.

And about China, those guys are having a field day because the government is corrupt.

Obi is a fraud. A fraud that says infrastructure doesn't drive economy.
Tell me how building rail lines from Abuja to Kaduna has helped the economy of Nigeria.

Tell me how building fly overs have helped the economy of Nigeria.

No body is saying that infrastructure is not important, that can come and at the important places.

Good motorable roads in villages that produce food, that we need now.

There are sectors which will drive development and create jobs before we talk about building fly overs and rail ways which we need to borrow first.

Fashola and Obi are not mates.

One major drawback of Obi is that he talks a lot and if you delve deep into what he is saying most times, it is hard to correlate his words into tangible solutions for the economy.

Furthermore, a lot of youths shouting Obi really do not even bother to critique his ideas or solutions. To them it is simply about being "Obidient"

Abeg obidient to what? Most don't even know.
How is building and getting necessary equipment for school not a solution to building the economy.

How is becoming a producing nation instead of a consuming one not a solution to building the economy?

How is cutting unecessary cost and channelling these same fund to important things not a solution to grow the economy?

How is investment in SMEs not a solution to growing the economy.

One thing you must understand about Peter Obi supporters is that they are learned and they can relate to his policies. I know what Peter Obi knows, because I am in same field, and I know those are what Nigeria needs.

sir, get the man clear, its a policy to fight or discourage corruption and he only use 100k as example. for me i think it may work because main reasons for corruption, kidnapping, yahoo, drugs etc is not because of daily food, it is simply to get quick money to buy houses, cars, Lands etc just to show off. Note that EFCC have not recovered food items from homes of people arrested for fraud or financial corruption but houses, cars, jweries and youths are following their footsteps. well God help us
Wait so car loans is our problem in this country? So the country should forget about investing in education, health, SMEs, power and first give workers car loans?

Are you trying to tell me that kidnappers and armed robbers and even Yahoo boys are gainfully employed and went into fraud and theft because they couldn't afford a car?

That's why I am disappointed at Tinubu who claims to be an economist, an accountant and a businessman. He is still talking about consumption instead of production. If a civil servant takes a loan to buy a foreign car (Tokunbo for that matter), which economy will it benefit? Our importation bill will continue to rise and our naira will continue to fall.
Tinubu is not an economist, he studied business administration. though they said he worked as an accountant.

What Nigeria needs right now is investment in the power and mining sector in order to help the manufacturers. The a massive investment in education and SMEs. Then we can start talking about car loans, who will collect the car loans? is it the millions of unemployed youths he wants to give car loan?

That was how Buhari started sharing 30k and 10k in the name of social investment. These people are not serious at all. As a graduate of Economics I feel sorry for this country anytime I see politicians bringing useless policies.

The problem is that Nigeria politicians who think they know the economy well, ignorantly use political economy policies.

Is this the best of Tinubu? Unfortunately he's saying gibberish even after all the editing.

How would someone earning 100k afford ro pay back a car loan of 3.5 million?

Even with a credit system. It will take 100% of his salary for over 2 years to pay for the car.

Which lender will agree to such a deal?

BTw Nigeria already has a credit system. Loan apps like Carbon and Branch use it.

The next president should focus on increasing local production to strengthen the naira.
So that car of 3.5 mil can go back to the 1.5 mil it was sold 7 years ago.

TINUBU HAS NOTHING TO OFFER.
Honestly Tinubu has nothing to offer, how many youths in Nigeria earn up to 100k, I thought he will talk about a model of creating jobs, empowering SMEs, investing in the power sector to encourage manufacturers, but he is talking about car loans.

No be person weh see food chop dey buy car?

He claimed one of the reason for big corruption in the civil service is that the system is rigged against integrity because how do we expect a civil servant/Private workers earning like 100k to afford a house/car that is 8million by paying cash at once.

He said we can’t have a system that allow corruption while on the other hand have EFCC to curb the corruption.

He advised the best way to curb this is to set up mortgage system such that the people can pay in installment with FG working alongside the lenders to see that people can have access to such loans. With this, a civil servant don’t need to steal to afford cars and etc.

In Lagos, this is in practice with Lagos HOMS. The FG just need to back the banks with some security that can help them mitigate against defaulters that may arise.

To the Obituary people that invaded this thread, you’ve been asking for Tinubu stance on things like this, now he spoke brilliantly, you’re still bitter.

Whether you hit your head on stone or not, Tinubu will be your president in 2023.

Trust me, if Tinubu gets elected, he will build a long lasting mortgage structure in Nigeria that will outlive his government. This man understand how to build structure and he is a goal getter.
If you think that car loans is what Nigeria youths need right now, then you are not serious. Car loans are the least of what Nigeria needs right now, I don't know when last you entered the nearby market in your locality.

Nigeria needs more than a car loan policy.

Just see what Tinubu and his people are promoting, you want a youth earning 100k to collect a car loan of 5million.

This is mortgaging the future of the youths, 5 million naira car loan with 100k salary means paying 50k per month for almost 3 years for a liability (Car).

We need good paying jobs, loans to SMEs, investment in education and health sector, steady power supply to help manufacturers and boost our GDP, and not car loans.

dangerousdaddy:
Good evening people. Please don't mind my English. My post is actually out of pains and frustration and i may not type with the correct words.

I'm a 31 years old guy. I'm actually very bad with spending because when i have money, whoever asks from me gets. I am under alot of pressure lately especially from those around me. I am the 1st child of my parents and have so many responsibilities.

I got my girlfriend pregnant and she moved in with me. My parents were never there for me so i vowed i was going to be there for my kids. Hence i do all i can to make sure my daughter and her mum are OK.

The girl in question is a torn in my flesh. Totally different from when we were dating without a child. Nowadays, as soon as i get my salary, she wants to buy this, she wants to buy that even though she knows i receive less than a 100k and i have multiple loans i am paying back because we moved out of our old apartment due to space constraints especially after she delivered.

Whenever i don't have money, there is never a happy moment in my home. But if i come home and bring money, we become very good friends. She wants to live a good life which is not wrong but I feel when she knows how i am managing, she ought to understand and bear with me.

The last straw that broke the camel's back was, i was yet to be paid, i had 700 with me. I gave her to make some food because we had the basic food stuff in the house.... Rice, beans, ogbono, spaghetti, garri, Egusi.... Palm oil. So basically all she had to buy was fish or something to put inside the food.

I came home after a hard day at work and met an empty kitchen. When I asked for my food, she asked me what i expected her to cook with 700 naira. I got so mad and left the house but since it was late (it was close to midnight), i decided to come back. In my anger, i started asking her why she's treating me badly. And the next thing is, she called her mum to say I'm fighting with her and that i pushed her to the ground. Her mum replied and said that if anything happens to her daughter, she would hold me responsible. That she didn't give me a wife......

Now I feel i should just end everything and let's go our separate ways before it becomes a case of domestic violence. I never want to see my child grow up to see me fighting with her mum always and being unhappy. I believe a child that grows up in an unhappy home is always at a disadvantage. Please help me guys. I am in pains.

I hope this makes front page
I have not heard the lady's side of the story, but if what you just typed is true, then you should find a way to let her go. She is not a good woman.

Then I will advice you to change your taste if women, you probably loved her because she had the necessary figures, she carry front and back but you forgot the character.

My Bossom childhood friend was financially down and needed financial assistance because his landlord was suffocating him with his constant nagging. So he contacted me as his old guy and and told me the situation on ground and requested for financial assistance from me. I didn't hesitate in sending him the money which he summed up with the one he had and cleared his house rent.

So, this afternoon, his wife texted me, and in her text, she thanked me for the assistance and requested to pay me a visit and and help me with some of my chores since my wife is in Bayelsa. From the very moment I set my eyes on that text, I haven't been myself knowing fully well that one thing may lead to another during her visit/stay.

That my guy is so dear to me and we treat each other with utmost respect so for this reason, I wouldn't like to loose that respect and trust. This woman is anticipating my response, according to her.

Please house, how do I discourage her from visiting me in my wife's absence without it looking as if I'm avoiding her? What does she want? Who has been in this type of situation and how did you resolve the issue without creating enmity?
OP she wants to cum. read the meaning in that word "cum".

Pls for the sake of your marriage and her marriage also, send her a reply text, tell her it's OK she shouldn't border herself. Tell her you have a worker who does paid house chores for you already.

Iamgrey5:
There are two portions of voters in every region in Nigeria

The educated voters and the "not so educated" voters

The percentage they are to each other varies in every region.
For example, it's like 10% educated and 90% uneducated in the Northwest, and 25% educated and 75% uneducated in the Southwest.

Now back to your question:

Amongst educated Northwesterners

Kwakwaso will get 60%

Atiku will get 20%

Tinubu will get 13%

Rest will get 7%

Kwakwaso will do well here because he needs very little money to mobilize the voters as most of these voters are tech savvy and have strong opinions. However, these people only make up 10% of the voting block

Non educated voters

Kwakwaso will get 40%

Atiku should get 25%

Tinubu will get 30%

Others 5%

Tinubu will do better than Atiku because Apc have betterb TV party structure and finances to influence electorates in the North West.

To be continued.
You miss something here brother, the non educated Northerners will never vote a southerner, that's how they are, they believe a Muslim from the North should govern Nigeria forever.

4teenblaq:
I stumbled on a video where Peter Obi was lecturing on air in Arise TV or so last year or so. He made points of improving the Economy of Nigeria, he said something that struck me, he said Nigeria does not need infrastructure to improve the economy now, that what is needed are Education and investing or improving SMEs .

Initially I was taught that infrastructure improves the economy of any state, so let the video play for a while to see if he would point out why he said infrastructure can't improve the economy.. At the end I was disappointed, he didn't show how.. But he did state why education can improve the economy by stating some points with facts (he did some reference on India as a country how they were able to pull out about 200 million persons from poverty through SMEs and Education in five years or so, I did some investigation, He was right!)

But what I didn't understand was the former..

So I decided to check myself on how infrastructure can't improve the economy.
I did some findings that infrastructure can't improve your economy if you are borrowing to fund the infrastructure and it would lead to waste when such infrastructure can't be maintained.

I realised That is where Nigeria as a Nation is showcasing her prowess.

So guys what do you think on this issue?
Obi just lectured you on development Economics here, developing countries normally use the unbalanced growth model to develop their economies, here he made reference to education and smes.

It can be education and others, the truth is that poor countries can not fund infrastructure without borrowing, so for a poor country to achieve short term growth, it need to invest in education and small scale business, which will grow the GDP and lead to massive Economic growth.

When that is achieved, massive investment in infrastructure will commence, those businesses will be taxed and revenue gotten from those business will be used in building infrastructure.

moreover, no country can survive without SMEs, even USA.
