You folks have been scarce on this thread. I thought you folks justified early marriage to save the girls from selling their bodies. How come 5000 out of 8000 are divorced? How come they are looking for men who can buy them at the rate of 4 women per man and even such services are unavailable?

It seems some people are allergic to good news! They must look for something to gripe about! When I saw this thread, I was glad that for once in a long while, something good is reported about us. This thread confirms what I had read on Readers Digest that Nigerians are ten times richer than they were a few years ago. I am a rational optimist. I have benefited personally: the road to my hometown has been tarred by JUlius Berger, I have used the remodelled airports in Lagos, PH, Benin, Owerri and Abuja. I dropped the idea of the NGO I wanted to form because my target beneficiaries were already enjoying what I was proposing from the govt. Jobless youth? Fewer than when I graduated! Many are creating jobs and employing others. Food and transport aren't cheaper, but more people have the purchasing power.
Things are looking up! It can only get better!

It's tempting to say they have low self esteem et al but how else do they know how to meet their legitimate needs? How many role models do they have? who in their environment is living life differently? Who is willing to train them? How do they think of their future when they are probably married off to much older men and thrown away aka divorced when they are tired? I know a 40+ man who said a girl of 23 was too old for him. This was after 2 yes marriage to her. He is educated and schooled abroad so we wouldn't say he is a local champion.

If they were in their hundreds, people might dismiss it as their fault but when they run to thousands in a state with more than 70% divorced, then something must be done.

Getting married is not even a solution to their problem because with the divorce system in the north, these women will soon be divorced again.

I do not know if their problem stems from their religion or culture. I believe that there are Islamic bodies in the south that can listen to these women cry for survival. Let them go tp the north and educate them. I assume there will also be other NGOs that can assist in one way or the other.

Let us not leave these women to their fate.

Forgive my ignorance, Muslims, but why this high rate of divorce? I can understand the thousands who are widowed by BH but this divorce rate is staggering.

Your post is deceptively simple. There is no woman that can tell in advance how strong she will be in pregnancy! For some, it is a matter of life and death. How can you be so hard on your fellow women that they used marriage as excuse for failure? Who enjoys failing? Who enjoys passing out with a horrible certificate? How will a primi gravida(first time Mom) whose episiotomy hasn't healed and who is still bleeding write a 3hour exam with others and pass in flying colours?

It can be very costly. My niece who did that is currently doing an extra year in the university. She made 2 babies and her CGPA is woeful!

A lady that I know eventually graduated with a third class. And she was very intelligent. She's so ashamed of her result that it gives her inferiority complex. Her friends who married after their studies have it all too: husband, children, good career prospects because of their good result and respect from their in-laws who never saw them as uncompleted projects which their brothers invested money to complete.

There is time for everything: a time to be carefree and a time to bear responsibility. Enjoy this stage of your life. If you must marry, can you agree to postpone child-bearing till you have written your final exams?
Remember, the marriage can go anyhow but with your certificate, you can pick the pieces of your life together and feed your children. Don't joke with this stage. It can make or mar you. A man in love is a very different creature from a husband.

Must you judge? People have preferences and persuasions so why all these name-calling? Some of us, a significant majority as you can see from the responses, hate chains/necklace on a man irrespective of whether it's worn by a politician, a pastor or a trader. It cheapens the wearer.

. Where Jesus is, it's heaven there. Paul talks of third heaven so there are realms of heaven. There is paradise whose torture equivalent is hell. I wish us all the first resurrection!

haibe: To be sincered with you op i have found the eschatological events a bit confusing, i know there is a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness, so i don't understand the idea of going to heaven, anyone can enlighten me please, also i know the bible talks about the lake of fire and hell as a place of suffering but i have not perfectly established the difference and who would be in hell and lake of fire, someone who has the undertanding can enlighten me.

Personally i don't border thinking of hell again, i just make sure i follow the leading of the Holy spirit and so the right thing always, by this i care less of hell. Whenever i preach the gospel i preach about the love of God and the need for christ, i don't preach hell, that is left for the Holy Spirit to teach the convert.

So that's me, i care less about hell, the relationship i have with God and love i have for Him casts out the fear of hell.

I don't know it all because we know in part and understand in part.

At the expiration of the thousand years, there is the Great white throne judgement after which new heaven and new earth is created in which the righteous will live eternally.
2. when the unrighteous die, they go to hell: think of the rich man. There is torture but even that is not all. They don't resurrect until the white throne judgement when hell will release the souls in it. Then all the unrighteous living and dead people will be thrown into the Lake of fire which is the second death

You're right. Many people will not accept God's offer but don't be discouraged for Jesus said there are many mansions. The steps as outlined in the Bible are very simple
1. accept you are a sinner
2. Confess those sins to God with a determination not to go back to them again. That means you promise God on your knees that you will not do those evil deeds again
3. Receive God's offer of mercy offered in jesus name. Don't think your sins are so many or so hideous that God cannot forgive you
4. As you pray with a broken and repentant heart, God will lift the condemnation you feel and replace it with peace and joy. You will know that you have been forgiven because you will literally hate to do anything that will hurt God. If you were a chain smoker, the smell of cigarette will be nauseous to you.
Try it! You can kneel by your bedside this night and pray the prayer of the publican: God be merciful to me, a sinner! God will forgive you and you will know it

And who told you that my faith makes me miserable? Go and read as much as you can on research.
