all4naija: 1. Unscrew the RAM compartment at the back of your system

https://www.cyfinity.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/presario2100_ram_upgrade_1.jpg

2. Remove the RAM from the bay and clean the connector. If it is bad replace it with a new. There are usually two slots for you RAM. Make sure both RAMs are checked if you have two in there.

3. A video clip on how to do that

You can read more on how to do that from this LINK
just ask him to take it to a technician>>>>dint u just read "how do i locate my ram?".the video tutorial u just shared may not be exactly the same as his own..some ram memories are located onboard or somewhere deep.
besides, what that tutorial dint show is,taking out your battery..should the system accidentally come on while the battery is inside and the ram removed...you will fry the system

deji2009: In support of onegig post relating to wga cracks, I would advise that you visit google
and type in validate windows. This tool will check it for you, most people are deceive that
their windows is genuine but not. to proof on xp download media aplayer 11 or on vista or windows 7
go to google and type validate windows and see the result for yourself. we do not provide windows
cracks or product key. L@@k @@@@ Rich4god, I understood you choose to help the user outside of nairaland, but
in reality we shouldn't. let us work together to present a good image of nairaland and nigeria. Lets people
buy the genuine product and also @ Rich4god I would be please if you can join us to provide impeccable technical
support. I and my colleague look forward to your post.
ok lets cut all the oyinbos and technicalities short..here is something legal to do
open CMD as administrator,
type slmgr -rearm (it would reset the validation)

Hackomania: I'm guessing it's an unlicensed copy of Windows 7. You should get a licensed copy.
Alternatively, you can search google for the exact search query "xpvistaseven site:4shared.com Raj kumar"

I take no responsibility for what happens to your PC after using the result of this google search, so I suggest you get a fully licensed copy.
A detailed list of shops where you can get an original Windows 7 license is here

let a pro help you attempt a backup of your files first(if it was caused by another factor else its already empty) before any further diagnosis...then,he can reload your system

princessmay: Pls havin dis prob with my laptop, anytime i on it,it says smart hard disc error,i ll ve to press enter b4 it ll boot and it keeps hangin wen am browzin, urgent help needed.
i wrote an article on SMART MONITOR a few weeks ago..it helps to predict a future hard drive failure..
2..when your system hangs while you browse,it means your system has encountered a read/write error on that sector as a result of BAD SECtors
solution: regenerate the hard drive so that thos bad sectors can be repaired and data moved to another sector..
if the bad sectors are too many and cant be repaired..im afraid you might need to replace the hard drive

deji2009: What led you to believe that your computer is infected ? for example, I got pop up to
buy now or scan for registry errors. do you currently have an up to date antivirus software
and it is working well ? I would suggest you backup your important data using a cd/dvd.
if you like, you can use a usb stick/external hard rive but would recommend cd/dvd.

IF using CD/DVD only :

make it an habit of checking your data on another computer to make sure is already backup
into the cd/dvd. avoid carrying out an online transactions. My advice is to reformat the
computer. on this forum look for sameloge616, he may be able to help. I would have asked you
to use scanning software such as malwarebyte to remove the virus but in my country where i live
we usually do things that last longer not a temporary solution. virus will always be there
so best bet is to reformat. My colleagues may have another alternative.what make is your computer,
e.g., toshiba p300-20h windows vista
dj,thanks for the recommendation..really there would be no need to reformat the system.how does he know its a virus?there are alot of virus-like activities that may make a system unstable not necessarily a virus.
.so lets just work on his assumption.here are a few things to avoid:
1..dont bother scanning infected files within an infected system..if the virus has already defeated your antivirus then whats the use
2. dont bother installing a new antivirus..its like a resident thief waiting for the police to come,he is already advantaged
simple solution(try at ur own risk, better yet..let the pros do it)
1..remove ur hard drive and put in an external hard disk enclosure
2..get another system witha strong antivirus and make sure its up-to-date
3.plug in the infected external hard drive and do a full scan(warning..dont use a system with avast...it shows no tolerance for viruses..it would simply delete them..and those infected files contain system files..your system may not boot up
4...in some rare cases,be prepared to repair your OS or re-install your applications
if symptoms persist,call ur technician
or call me on 08061679732

onegig: Wait...you are always here to debunk what i have to say.

I will learn to ignore you seriously I thought it was normal before but its kind of an obsession now.If you can't

comprehend English Language easily maybe you go up.

I feel i shouldn't respond to you. But you seem to be the over sabi type and I need to place you where you belong.

I guess i should help you comprehend what i wrote up there since you are finding it difficult..

When i say "I hope you have never used any partition software because they are notorious for deleting or corrupting partition table on an hdd".==== You might have sabotage your hdd by the misuse of partition software. Partition softwares or normal softwares are known to be back tested for errors before they release them into the market but most users are guilty of misuse or running them too frequently(without completing each process) and thereby corrupting their partitions. You are advised not to tinker with your partitioning software . So Mr i too know.

What corrupted the harddisk?? The operating system or partition softwares.

Apart from that. From experience, most damaged hard disk i have come across from customers are always a result of people using partition softwares. So please, Try and help the users and not attack me again. I am not here fr a competition.
dude,no competition..just corrected your assessment..what corrupted the hard disk?nice question...truthfully,we may never know because he may not even remember.
Notorious,u wrote! you could have simply asked if he used one than to say "partition softwares are notorious"*(u generalised)and i simply thought it was a DUMB and DUMBER reasoning!on your second post,u contradicted yourself with the statement "you might have sabotage your hdd by the misuse of partition software"(correction acknowledged).
now,get this straight-i stand corrected for any statement i make here.in the past, ihave been corrected by deji2009(he taught me to be professional abt giving out win 7 cracks online),zimdrill(those are names of a few great dudes here on nairaland and dont even recall ur name until u showed up here recently)the idea of this forum is to learn collectively and help others within my capacity of my expertise.so dont get it twisted,NO COMPETITION cuz you just dont rank yet..
what i say i do and would do...i do very well(aint bragging cuz i can always back it up)
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by sameolg616(m): 2:21pm On May 08, 2013
Philcool: Sorry, the sreenshot I was trying to post was the notice that came up when I was analysing the partitioned disk at the Disk view console. Av just attached now.
The problem is that one of my partitioned disks does not display on windows explorer including its contents again. I can not assess it anymore. I only see it at Disk view console but it is not showing the way the other partitioned part (the windows booting partition). How do I get it back so I can see it displaying as a drive again and displaying its contents as usual in windows explorer. I hope I am clearer, Sameolg616.
forgive my late response..i couldnt deduce so much fromyour screenshot...to be frank, system restore would not help as a colleague earlier advised...your MBR(master boot record) or partition table appears to be damage..its simply not anyone here would be able to analyze properly unless they see it.
here is a simple self test:
goto CONTROL PANEL
-click on SYSTEM
-click on HARDWARE
-click on DEVICE MANAGER
--find DISK DRIVES in the tree and collapse it(ie click on the +)
-you will find the name of the drive there
-right-click on it and chose PROPERTIES
-click on VOLUMES
click on POPULATE and wait..
let me know the message the system returns...call me on 08061679732 for quick response..post screenshots

ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by sameolg616(m): 2:09pm On May 08, 2013
onegig: Run a system restore or repair your existing windows operating system.

But wait . I hope you have never used any partition software because they are notorious for deleting or corrupting mbr or partition table on an harddisk which is normally rectified by either formatting the hard disk.

Go through this steps and lets see what would happen

Open command prompt and type chkdsk followed by the enter key.
dude, assess the conversation and derive the info..
how can you say partition softwares are notorious?its either you dont know how to use it or it dint give you your desired results
2.you ever told you that formatting a hard drive normally rectifies the problem-WRONG!
sebi na hard drive wey computer see,it go format(ie you can only format a detected drive).formatting is always the last option and in this case, its not an option because he wouldnt even make it to that formatting aspect..

Philcool: My brother, though you have advised but I have gone futher to open disk management and I see the partitioned disks but when I went futher to open or explore the disk, it says the operation failed bcoz Disk Mgt console view is not up to date and other things. Please see the the screenshots here and you all should advise me on what I still have not done completely. Thank you. I wait to hear from you all. Thanks again.
dude there is a syntax and structure for doing these things...something u may never learn in just a post or reply(truthfully) else it would be a 'shot in d dark'.different problems require certain procedures and in some really hard cases-NONE!
i apologise if my post may have misled or disappointed u in achieving ur aim.i really dont know wht u are trying to achieve or solve.never have i used diskmagt to "open or explore a disk"(its use was totally misplaced"wink
in your post,u dint even state what the problem was and i find it quite absurd sending screenshots of an error message encountered with DISKMGT..
as i've been taught, the 1st step to solving a problem is "IDENTIFYING THE PROB"..so kindly retrace ur steps..

victabor: Pls most of my .dll files are missing. How do i get them back? Am using Compaq610 with Win7 installed. Thanks
just repair ur os..but first, investigate into the disappearance or damage of the dll files;it may be virus related..else,the problem may persist after repair.that why i always advice to let the PROS handle the situation with their vast experience and knowledge of the situation.

No need for commamnd prompt or so...here is d gist, chinko flashdrives and fake ones don't format as NTFS..they are mostly FAT32..so try change the filesystem to fat32 as ur formatting..not ntfs.

really there is no need debating ur issue anymore..simply take it to a HARDWARE EXPERT..i need to inform u that if the right precautionary moves aint taken before removing ur ram(removing ur battery)talkless of ur trying to straighten iron strings up and ur system accidentally powers up..u may blow ur motherboard!
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by sameolg616(m): 12:42pm On Apr 27, 2013
blanco56: Same here
here are the usual suspects:
1.low RAM-check the size of ur ram..it may be "onegig",2 and u may need an upgrade to support ur running applications
2.Startup programs/services-a lot of programs and their dependencies(services) may all be starting up at boot-time eg itunes runs dependencies like bonjour, apple mobile device...all these programs take up your memory ie if u have "onegig" and itunes alone has taken 500k,skype(50k) then the most consumer of memory;UR BROWSER(firefox,IE)the moment you are browsing and opening multiple tabs,windows..takes like 400k..
when u add up,you will have 950k outta the "onegig" used up.disable the unused apps from startup..
solution:
click on start, type MSCONFIG and press enter
-on GENERAL tab,select SELECTIVE STARTUP
-click on the SERVICES tab, check the HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES(so it can hide all the required microsoft services so u dont make ur system unstable..
-uncheck the familiar names u see there u dont need but are running(yahoo messenger, itunes,"ENCARTA"(if u are unsure, just make a screen shot so we can advise on which to uncheck
-click on the STARTUP tab.here,if ur unsure, just click on DISABLE ALL..on startup, windows will restore the required ones in the order of importance(most times, only the antivirus is restored)
-when your done click on OK(when u click APPLY,it means u still want to continue to make changes) but OK is equivalent to apply and exit

3..the last suspect..registry fix: when u uninstall applications, reference addresses are left on ur system that the processor would try to process and locate.also, privacy sweeps, junk files,shortcuts..
i use commercial registry cleaners like UNIBLUE REGISTRY BOOSTER or IOBIT ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE 6.i hear ccleaner is good too but cant recommend since i have never used it

onegig: abeg ..if you wana help. There's nothing hard in bcd settings if well spelt its left to the guy to follow or decide to take it to an engineer. Its these kind of mindset that has plagued africa for too long. You have a knowledge about something why not share it and let others develop from it? I beleive say he it was am african that invented computers we will still be holed up at the first generation of computers in the twenty first century.
as ur name implies 1G...so outdated!to dual boot alone aint easy talkless bcd(as u said "or take it to an engineer"-better choice)..let the experts handle expert matters!this should be a forum to help us grow as its not a popularity contest here or who is beta than who..as i once proposed let all the engineers here state their expertise so we can refer all complaints to the nearest engineer.an example is d radio show AUTOMEDICS..be inspired

adewasco2k: Your post was a little bit confusing though (did the guy activated your windows 7 before you when ahead to install windows xp?)

If you install windowx xp on windows 7 and you want them to work concurrently (dual boot)
You will need to install a boot manager to do that.

Download EasyBCD (you can search google, on mobile now will have provided a link))
On the left side of EasyBCD, click on the Add New Entry button.

A) In the top section under Operating Systems, click on the Windows tab.

B) To the right of Type, select Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3 from the drop down menu.
[]WARNING: Be sure to leave the Automatically detect correct drive box checked.

C) To the right of Name, you can leave the default Microsoft Windows XP as the name to be displayed in the Windows Boot Manager, or you can type whatever name you would like to have instead.

D) Click on the Add Entry button.
dude,no disrespect but sharing sensitive info like bcd,i frown against..its not an easy procedure that endusers like the poster can master.also, from his post he complained about the professional not showing him what he did..really,why shd he?im a professional and pros get paid.besides, wen u go to computer village,u'd find a lot of pretenders there fronting like pros just cuz a friend has probably shown then how to format a system but waht happen thereafter?if i damage ur laptop,i know ow much u will soil ma name in this forum but when u pay for the service ,its a guaranteed money-back policy..i spend countless hours studying procedures, paying for internet which even means migrating from one network to the other because i want better satisfaction.
