Sorry to butt in but what kind of internet connection do you use to play online ? I don't think it will be easy or cheap to get a 8Mbps connection here in Nigeria. Unless you are not based in Nigeria which is probably why you have not heard much responses from the 9ja based members of NL.

Does anybody know or can anyone guess how many subscribers actively browse on the glo netwok ? MTN & Etisalat are the 2 companies that i know with active data subscribers especially MTN with the new mobile internet packages. Honestly, i have NEVER seen anybody that i personally know that uses glo to browse. Therefore, i am surprised to see where the customers are going to come out from when they start their ADSL services. Remember, its more expensive laying cables than over-the -air services. Therefore, the first packages coming out for the ADSL services might be expensive and beyond the reach of the average nigerian.

In another news, MTN BB service is now N3000 per month. This came about as a result of increased competition from Etisalat who has been offering reduced prices for their voice and data sevices & as a result winning over more subscribers.

Rapidshare Premium Downloads is even faster. I downloaded FIFA 11 and PES 2011 both almost 12GB in less than 6hrs.

It has been brought to the attention of this lowly-ranked genin that an attack is underway on our great indian village by our most powerful enemy, the lord of the yellow country. A seal has been placed on our hidden leaf village that limits the speed at which we create our jutsu. This seal restricts our jutsu speed to less 200. This information is to be transmitted to all ranking ninjas, ANBU squad and to the three (3) great kages themselves

Raikage Puskin
Zazukage Guente
Mizukage shilohboy

A way must be found around this seal and all ninja's should pls report about this phenomenon. Those who can see let them see.

@Mobinga,

Good. I can vouch for the products and quality of the goods sold there. That company is the dominant computer accessories/components seller in the entire kaduna state. You can e-mail him or call him to check the kinds of graphics cards he has in stock. But i think you will get more variety in Lagos. Where are our lagos based people now !

However, i don't know your location. If you where in Kaduna, i could have suggested Micromanna Computers (Constituition Road, Opp. Stadium). I bought the following cards there for my fiends who are architects and wanted to do some renderings on 3D StudioMax

1. PNY 1GB Nvidia 9400 GT

2. XFX 1GB ATI Radeon 4650

3. Green 1GB Nvidia 9800 GT

Am so sorry but i don't have any links. I have a friend who works in their sales department. He activated my line for me. I think you dial *100*something# and send yes to confirm. I have been using it since yesterday. Its a newly launched promotion aimed at beating etisalat in the market. I dont even think they have updated their website yet. I promise however to post the instructions tomorrow morning by God's grace.

NB. Yes, am in Abuja now and i can confirm that glo has an EDGE network. They don improve from GPRS (abi na 2.5G dem dey call am). Where are all the people shouting about how improved glo 3G+ was ? Me, i never see 3G+ ooo! Am currently at Zone 6 behind Military Pensions Board. Abeg, prove this doubting thomas wrong.

goggs:
The absence of fibre links for some providers between Lagos and the rest of the country will mean that improved services will be restricted to the Lagos area for now. This, I think, is particularly true of Starcomms and etisalat. They will likely redirect their Lagos traffic (which is the bulk in terms of demand) through the undersea cables and for us in the rest of the country it will likely be access through slow satellite links. And the result is that costs are unlikely to come down soon and they will face harsh competition from Providers that have such links like glo and MTN.

NCC licensed some long distance carriers like NEPSKOM and Alheri Engineering. They were supposed provide the sort of cross country links that companies like starcomms and etisalat can buy capacity from. It will save them money as the infrastructure will be shared and maintained by the carrier company. As far as i know NEPSKOM is barely existing, Dangote (Alheri) strung some fibre between Lagos and Benin 2 years and now  cement business seem to be the most on his mind.

Thats where glo has an advantage. It has fibre links from Lagos through, ibadan, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano. I hear also it runs from Abuja to Jos, Markurdi Yola and maiduguri. Dunno much about the coverage in the east sha. If and when they get their act together and truly launch, they can easily deploy this bandwidth further than most  providers cos of these cables. So that's why when glo made the announcement about their cable, people paid attention cos of this potential to reach inland but alas, information management is not their strong point hence the back and forth story telling and subsequent intense frustration we all feel.

As for MTN in Abuja, they are the network to beat. I can attest to the fact that their speeds have improved vastly. On browsing alone I get 1.5mbps on the average, when downlowning using accelerators i get up to 2.6mbps. My only gripe is that the data allowance is so expensive and runs out so fast. They also have extensive fiber network and they appear to be using them. They are really not much noise makers when it comes to infrastructure investments. I heard from a contractor of theirs the other day that MTN wants to incorporate Universities in their metro fibre link project to provide internet access to institutions in towns where their fibre passes. Now if its true, its fantastic and yet MTN may just keep quiet and spring a surprise. Imagine the bandwidth market in just half of Nigerian Universities.

If it were glo, they would be at the rooftops talking about what is not yet on ground using annoying superlative terms. MTN is annoying expensive, but action is better than noise. I'll go for expensive action other than cheap noise.

I hope glo learns to keep their mouths shut and their hands busy. I hope they launch sooner than later, cos the prospects are there
Chairman !!!

I have been to each of those states and more and glo doesn't even have a common EDGE network to prove talk less of 3G+. Their network is slow and subscriber base is low. glo in the North especially core northern states (Katsina, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe etc) is a joke. Where are the fibre links that they are talking about ? Bunch of lies. The only place that i can confirm glo has fibre links is on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressway. Even those are being vandalised as we speak. Please glo should stop deceiving people abeg.

Hi Guys,

i can now conclusively confirm that Etisalat DOESN'T HAVE AN UNLIMITED DATA PLAN. Nigeria ! Some corporations are just scammers without the fear of God, just out to con people out of their hard earned money. All 3 plans on the Etisalat Easynet Time plan have bandwidth limits attached to them without Etisalat informing their customers either on their websites or at the Etisalat shops. Here's the breakdown:-

1. Daily Plan N500 50MB
2. Night Time & Weekends N5000 3GB
3. Unlimited (yea right) N10000 3GB

So, please inform people about this.

O.K Let's even forget about the Glo-1 Cable, what about the so called 10,000 KM of fibre optic cable (backbone) that they reportedly have ? Looking at the corporate side, how many people are subscribing to their high speed fibre backbone ? MTN Nigeria is currently collaborating with Google to build an N8 Billion Wireless network at UNN. MTN is going to provide fibre access to their network . Even the MTN Virtual library and School Connect programmes are all tied to MTN's data network. Glo nko !

No, i don't work for MTN Nigeria. I was referring to people based in the Northern part of the country collectively. I am an avid internet user and always try out different service providers. MTN is currently the champion followed by Etisalat in the North.
ComputersRe: Globacom Submarine Cable - Glo-1 by samir101ng(m): 11:57pm On Aug 11, 2010
Glo-1 is a mirage as far as i am concerned. Glo has had a long history of pioneering innovations in Nigeria's GSM sector BUT in the end they always finish last. Its a classic example in the Looney Tunes cartoon where the Tortoise challenges the Rabbit (a.k.a Wabbit) to a race and always win in the end through ingenious means despite the natural strength and agility of the rabbit. I remember when Glo introduced the Per second Billing and Glo Mobile Internet and MMS. Glo was then shouting to the high heavens that they had the first and only 2.5G network in Nigeria. But what happened, to activate your sim you had to call customer care and request for the service which took a minimum of 5 working days. But MTN however enabled all their sims from the get go. Also, requesting internet/mms settings was so easy on MTN. Just send a text "SETTNGS" to 3888.

Secondly, Glo's 3G+ and EDGE network is practically non-existent in the Northern part of the country. I have travelled throughout the Northern part of Nigeria from the North Central (Nassarawa, Benue, Jos) and i challenge anybody to post a screenshot of Glo 3G+ or EDGE network. Even in Abuja at Garki II CBN Senior Staff Qtrs (Near Tantalizers), i cannot get Glo 3G+ or EDGE network only GPRS. I mean MTN has blanketed everywhere with EDGE service in the country. We even have full 3.5G service in Kaduna, Zaria, Kano, Maiduguri, Jos, Bauchi. If Glo's 3G+ network cannot even reach everywhere in Abuja, what hope is there about there Glo-1 fibre links service. What will happen will be that MTN will buy massive bandwidth on Main One or build their own and roll out service everywhere while Glo is still left holding the ball. Glo are too slow in pioneering innovations. MTN is offering DSTV Mobile people ! Supersport on your phone where there is DVB-H service and with a compatible phone. Anyhow, we dey rock Etibaba for now.

Hey Guys,

Etisalat is now the 1st GSM carrier to have an unlimited plan courtesy of Main One. Etisalat just launched a new plan called Easynet Time http://www.etisalat.com.ng/easynet.php. You can use it with your regular Etisalat prepaid SIM card or the Easynet data-only SIM card and Modem. Right now, i have subsrcibed to the N5000 Nighttime and Weekend Plan. I downloaded over 800MB on my first night. Etisalat is using an EDGE network but sometimes the speed rushes to 120 KB/S. I get an average of 29-35 KB/S using Internet Download Manager. Utorrent also works flawlessly with all ports opened. God bless Main One Cable Company as we are now reaping the rewards on the Etisalat Network.
