Hi Adamsmm 1. Which company is the manufacturer of your laptop e.g Hp, Compaq, Sony, Dell ? 2. What is the model number of the laptop e.g Hp Pavillion dv2130us, Dell Latitude 5120 ? 3. What kind of operating system do you have e.g Vista Home Premium, XP Professional ? 4. Does the laptop boot at all ? 5. Try and write down the complete error message you are getting and paste it here. The more details you are able to provide, the faster we can be able to diagnose the problem and help you. Good luck. |
Whats your e-mail address ? |
the sheer joy and bliss of finally getting root access. to hack (whether black hat or white hat) you need to think outside the box. its just like the matrix, u are limited by the power of your imagination. |
baba lynx, take am eazy with d directions. Some bad belle people wey dey eye ur starcomms izap fit jam u for corner carrry ur card comot ![]() |
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009. No doubt about it. I need an all around package that has an antivirus, antispyware, firewall, antiphising etc. With 3 licenses for $59.99 a year, u can split the costs between urselves. I love the way it detects any computer probing ur system on a network like starcomms that luvs banning people using p2p. The antivirus is also very good at detecting the latest viruses. It's been generally acknowledge as no. 1 and the most important of all, it doesn't consume ur systems resourves. Symantec have really improved themselves. I always believe in paying for a good service. If u want any of those free antiviruses, be prepared for wahala and low (and in most cases no) support. The only problem i have with it is with the update process. On a slow internet connection, its quite frustrating and its like the update servers are slow. |
My brother, thats 9ja for you. I always believe that nigerians deliberately sabotage themselves when they get a good opportunity with the typical excuse of of "na naija we dey". For God's sakes do you think British Telecoms, Vodafone or Orange will hire network engineers that are not worth their salt and have been thoroughly tested to show that they have the required knowledge. Am sure that the network engineers at Glo, Mtn & Zain are the ones responsible for all this Freedom browsing or whatever. They either deliberately sabotage the system to get some cool cash or they are just too damn incompetent. You can't try this nonsense in yankee or you will be fired on the spot and even be liable for prosecution if you are found to be negligent. Even nigerian's who are there behave themselves, but when they come back here they go back to their old ways. Aaaarg . Nigeria has no standard cyber crime bill or law enforcement agency to tackle the esecurity problems its facing. The Min of Finance just recently launched Oracle Financials and Network Systems Integration. Before you know it, some smart people in power will hijack it to loot billions of naira and then blame it on yahoo boys or whatever. The effcc and icpc are just deluding themselves. I am a certified EC Council Ethical Hac-ker and am taking courses at Offensive Security (the creators of backtrack), so when i come across companies with incompetent network engineers like these, sometimes i don't pity them. Because, they were not hired on what they knew but who they. Abi, no be naija we dey. Its high time serious professionals in nigeria like network engineers, bankers, accountants etc stand up and conduct themselves like their counterparts all over the world. |
Whats up, people ? Hey, lynx how far na wetin dey happen ? E be like say Starcomms are in need of a good management shake up. Maybe, they should start axeing some people. Just wanted to announce the passing away of my beloved Sierra Aircrad 580. It passed away as a result of old age and obsolence. Have gotten me a brand new wife, the new Sierra AirCard 597E for EV-DO Revision A networks. This card is the B, MB. For all those who have the new express card slots, this card is the perfect solution. I recommend it better than the usb solution. I also bought the external antenna for an extra N2000 which adds significant signal strength. It also comes with the Watcher monitoring software. I bought it for N15000 at the starcomms office in Abuja and it comes loaded with 100 hrs. Enjoy.

Bros, na the same thing come happen to me. Any use of p2p programs like bearshare, azureus, kazaa, etc, are all monitored by starcomms and can be traced back to your card. The only thing you can do is to get a good (original paid) internet security like Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and a program called Anonymizer. Anything that you can use to hide ur ip or use vpn tunneling for all ur data. If not, starcomms go ban u. |
Hi everyone, i have been observing a series of events that have been happening at the starcomms office and wish to draw your attention. Recently, i had posted about the ban i received from starcomms on the grounds that the card was being used for scam. After proper eye opening and the presence of some military personnel (i no get time for litigation) my card was finally restored in all its glory. People have been reporting of being banned from the network on these alleged suspicions. I have always known that PTO operators keep a close eye on their network and are monitoring everybody's activities. What i didn't count on was the blatant disregard of proper procedure and notification before banning someone. I was at the starcomms office the other day when i overhead the serious, heated argument between an aggravated customer and one of their staff. To cut a long story short, the guys laptop was infested with spyware & malware as a result of using a copy of Kaspersky Internet Security with an expired license. It seems these guys are monitoring the type of traffic you are using like http (web browsing), POP3, IMAP (E-mail), ftp, (file transfers) etc. But the most serious is p2p or bittorent traffic. These protocols it seems sets of an alarm on their monitoring system. These software's are usually used to download pirated or illegal media. My warning or question to all you guys is what do you usually do on the starcomms network apart from the normal browsing. This goes out to all the heavy downloaders (they know themselves). If you are using bearshare, azureues, bittorent, utorrent, emule etc, beware ! Starcomms is monitoring what you are doing. Any comments. |
Hello everyone, ![]() Sorry to butt in on your "serious discussions" but i need a little help. I am an Iphone newbie. I recently swapped phones with a friend of mine and got his 1st generation Iphone 8GB model. It was already unlocked and jailbroken with anysim. It had the 1.1.1.4 firmware installed together with installer. After much googling and wikin, i had gathered enough knowledge to upgrade the firmware and unlock it using Quickpwn 2.2 for windows. Am proud to say it was a success with no problems encountered. I installed both cydia and installer and have been using them to download cool apps. Now, my main problem is i have downloaded a lot of themes both from cydia and installer but i don't see them or know how to activate them on the iphone. I have googled round some iphone themes sites but have not gotten a satisfactory answer. I have read about summerboard, winterboard but they are all too confusing. My question now is, how do i install & activate iphone themes downloaded from cydia or installer ? Thank you. ![]() |
flyuche:Ah ah, flyuche, why you dey disturb the guy now. Na becos he no wan join you for MTN 3G. ![]() ogagusps3:Starcomms is not rubbish my brother. If you are subscribing to the new Starcomms Izap, you must first be within EVDO coverage area to enjoy fast speeds. Just check out this thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-155069.0.htmlto see the amazing speeds people are getting on Starcomms and without a bandwidth limit. Your problem going from your above statement is you live in a place without EVDO coverage and therefore browse at 1x speeds. Please make sure you do adequate research before buying anything in the future. |
In my humble opininon, Gongo Aso - 9ice is the best song that rocked 2008. I mean this is a correct party jamz that was felt throughout Nigeria even in Zaria where i was at the time. The song was even asked as a question on Who wants to be a millionaire. Goodluck 9ice and Happy New Year Nairalanders. |
Happy New Year !!! Wishing all my fellow contributors on the computer section a prosperous and fulfilling new year. Big shoutouts go to my people like Ex Inferis, Bigbrovar, Dual Core, Flyuche, Lynxnoon, texxapete, etc to mention but a few. Wishing you guys all the best. |
flyuche:Sshhhh, Dont let Leopard's brother hear you. His name's Snow Leopard. His gonna be coming soon. Am sure he's gonna beat the crap out of ur boy Windows 7. hehehehehe ![]() |
Try using Tuneup Utilities 2009 or ccleaner to uninstall it. They should help. Good luck. |
@smarta Take the Hp @ flyuche flyuche:You must be seriously joking ROFLMAO ![]() |
And the OS wars have started again. What were we talking about again ? Something about Sony , |
Eh ! Is Toshiba still making laptops ? Toshiba laptops are so ugggggggly ! hehehehe. I seriously believe if you start comparing the criteria you mentioned against other laptop manufacture's Toshiba doesn't stand a chance. Their global unit sales is a clear indicator. I believe many people in this thread have spoken on whether how we can call a particular laptop brand as the best is all relative of who you are and what you intend to use the laptop for. Price apart (that's also relative), Apple is an overall contender.NVM, use ur laptop well, if you like buy Acer Ferrari or Apple go dump inside swimming pool like 3310, e go shock u. Grin ![]() |
And MTN 3G will not last me 2 days ! ![]() |
In my humble opinion, Apple makes the best laptops by far. Their laptops are a reflection of true synergy. Both the hardware and operating system are in sync and the utmost attention is paid to both. And their designs are just beautiful. Just check out the specs of the new apple macbook. http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html

And the browser wars continue. Personally, am a Mozilla Firefox D-I-E H-A-R-D user. For those complaining of Mozilla Firefox consuming too much resources, it shouldnt be a big problem in this age where we have laptops with 4GB RAM and Intel Core2Duo CPU's. Best of all, i love the plugins. Mozilla Firefox is like a Swiss army knife. Different plugins add different functionalities to it. Also, Firefox has been around for a while and has therefore experienced the jungle warfare of viruses and exploits unlike some new baby browsers just coming on the scene. |
@ Afam, Men, i am seriously feeling your plight. The MTN 3G of a thing is nice and very fast if you are within 3G coverage area but the 3GB bandwidht cap really sucks and the ultimate ball crusher as far as i am concerned. Ex Inferis:@ Ex Inferis My brother, what the HELL then are you doing ? Abi, you are sitting gazing over gamine's screensaver on your desktop and drooling all over your keyboard ? (Anyi Sallah lafiya. Ina Aiki a KD yanzu.) |
Chei ! Make una come h-e-l-p me o ! Starcomms don ban me oh ! I just renewed our N15000 (250hrs) starcomms connection when i was told that they were banning us. They said i am using their internet for scam. Me ! Scam ! Evidently, starcomms is monitoring what we are downloading and doing on the network. I do acknowledge that i am a massive downloader of things like music, ebooks, softwares etc. They quoted something like "p2p traffic harry potter protocool" something, something. I dont know what to do and need you guys advice. Any ideas ? Would give you more detailed info next time. |
Guy, bone Just coming back from NYSC Orientation Camp at that bush on the way to Abuja. Corpers wan kill me with their e-registration. That's why i have been incognito for the past weeks. Am bone tired and typing on auto pilot. No mind the guy abeg. I dislike individuals that cant follow simple instructions and think everybody is willing to help them "CRACK SOMETHING". Am having a laugh by the way on the Google Hacking thread. |
