Main One and Galaxy Backbone set to deliver Broadband services to the Public Sector at a lower cost

December 16th, 2010

Main One Cable Company and Galaxy Backbone today announced their partnership to deliver superior Data and Voice services to the public sector. Main One provides the backbone infrastructure which provides superior and reliable access to broadband communication services while Galaxy will deliver superior Data, Internet, Voice and Video services to its customers via its integrated domestic networks.

In addition, this partnership extends the footprint of Main One to the state capital and North Central region of Nigeria thus providing the opportunity for Abuja based ISPs to reap the cost savings, superior and reliable service that the undersea cable system brings.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Galaxy Backbone made the decision to go into service partnership with MainOne Cable after a diligent consideration of the obvious limitations of existing submarine cable services in the country and the opportunities that has been thrown up by the existence of the Main One Cable which links the West Africa to the rest of to the world.

Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone says: “Galaxy Backbone is really excited about the strategic partnership with Main One Cable because it is now better positioned to help the government achieve its ICT goals by delivering enhanced quality of data, internet, voice and video services”

According to Ms Funke Opeke the Chief Executive Officer of Main One “Through our partnership with Galaxy, we have further extended our footprint to the North Central region of Nigeria which allows us to bring our superior quality, reliable and affordable broadband communication to the Federal Government and ISPs within the region”.

“The Main One partnership with Galaxy Backbone will deliver greatly enhanced connected services to the public sector via Galaxy's integrated infrastructure platform; 1-GOV.net.This partnership will have a significant positive impact on the attainment of the ICT sectoral objectives and by extension the overarching goals of the Nigerian Vision 20: 2020 strategy”. She added.

Main One offers access to a government eager to leverage Information Technology for the benefit of its citizens, but previously constrained by the limitations of the pipe available to drive the vision.

Main One via its 1.92 Tbps submarine cable to Portugal offers broadband telecommunication services that connect Nigeria with operators around the world.

with all these speeds, it'll soon be 'beam me up Scotty'
Nigeria is in a very good position to deliver true broadband speeds to its citizens. We have 3 Submarine cables :

1. SAT3 - 340 Gbit/s

2. Main One - 1280 Gbit/s

3. Glo-1 - 640 Gbit/s undecided undecided

With the fate of Nitel/SAT3 currently unknown and the wuru-wuru that Glo is doing with Glo-1, the only one we can rely on is Main One. On the terrestrial side, our ISP's ( IPNX, Swfit Networks) and Mobile networks (MTN, Etisalat, Starcomms) are deploying nationwide fibre-optic cables to connect to these submarine cables. The problem with our people is pure wickedness and lack of human kindness. Am not against a company making profit but mixing it with poor services and exploitation is something i have seen peculiar to Nigerian companies. This kind of thing cannot happen in Europe or US. These companies have bought Min. of Information/Communication, Special Advisers on Communications, Senate/Reps Members on Communication, NCC and other regulatory agencies why would they not act with impunity. I have a friend that works at Galaxy Backbone here in Abuja. We went to install a 1.2M ku band vsat at a Senators house in Apo Legislative Qtrs in Abuja. Why ? Because the useless senator had received an Apple Ipad as a gift and wanted 24 hrs internet connection. This guy to add salt to injury is not paying a damn because the MD of Galaxy Backbone is a "friend". I was like WTF angry angry

Imagine an 802.11g wireless network with a througput of 54Mbps on a fibre-optic backbone shocked shocked. That's a theoritical speed of 6.59MB/S download speed shocked shocked. With a latency of less than 150mls, it's an online gamers dream. Download freaks go download fill hard drive. This is all possible because of Main One. Please guys, check it out and tell us the experience.

If you are interested in buying a tablet computer apart from an Apple Ipad which is the best in the market currently, i would advise you to get a Samsung Galaxy Tab from Etisalat

http://www.etisalat.com.ng/device_galaxy.php

Together with Etisalat's EDGE network and coverage, its better than the Starcomms device.
I guess it a crime for a man to move into a woman's house.  Oh no!  I wouldn't want to be accomplice to that.   undecided
You are completely missing the point.

If i understood the basis behind this thread and your previous comments, women who live in houses owned by their husbands or boyfriends have not been treated fairly especially during a breakup where the woman is sent forcefully packing out of the house. Therefore, we are reversing their situations and trying to see how the shoe fits on the other foot. Am i right so far ?

That is why i mentioned the Nigerian environment and compared it to other western countries. Most educated/exposed men secure in their manhood will not have any problem moving into their fiancees house. But as i mentioned, they must be willing to endure their societies backlash. If you are in Europe or the US, nobody gives a damn but here in Africa its a different story. The best solution as far as i am concerned for any man wishing to compromise is to buy a house jointly 50-50. Here nobody has a say over the house and if their is a breakup, you either buy each other out or sell the house and split the proceeds.
I disagree with you, Livedit when you said "that just the way".  The bible speaks about the man being the head of the household and he does not have a final say. The Holy Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost have the final say.  When you put everything BEFORE GOD then you are not honoring the LIVING WORD.

If YOU chooses to follow your husband regardless of how you feel that your choice.  "The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice." (Proverbs 12:15) If you have a house before marriage and he has an apartment before marriage, a wise man will not buy another house for a house is already bought and paid for. REGARDLESS whom the owner of the house was.
This i believe should have been the topic of this thread.

Would you as a man move into your girlfriends house when you are going to get married ?

Truthfully, i honestly don't know. But let me start by saying that i would be extremely uncomfortable in the house. I can move in with her but you must be prepared for the societal backlash. Unfortunately, i live in a traditional African society (Nigeria) not in US or Europe. Here, depending on your religion or ethnicity you have 2 kinds of marriages ;

1. The traditional marriage

2. The Church/Islamic/Civil Wedding

In both these 2 marriages, the families of the bride and groom are actively involved in all stages of the ceremony. Now imagine you (the man) being asked where you are guys are going to stay and you reply : " Am going to be staying at her house ", am telling you authoritatively that there's going to be a riot. Your family members will curse and disown you if you are not careful and insisted on the marriage. Her family members will regard you as a weak man and say that you married her for her money. All sorts of negativity will start and before you know it, your marriage will be in shambles. Your idea is a good one if you are ;

1. Based outside Nigeria

2. Do not invite your family members & friends to the wedding

I know it sounds cruel but that's the truth. That's why its better if your wife to be has a house, let her rent it out and collect the proceeds. You can both contribute 50-50 to buy a new house.

livedit:
"Shacking" is a sin and you can't expect God to bless you/him when you are living/sleeping with someone who isn't your spouse.  Now, if/when you do marry, it is written that the man follows God and the woman follows the man and then the children follows.  My husband is the head of the household.  So with that being said, my husband has the final word.  Livedit is a VERY independent woman and so as much as I would feel like making the choice, I have to do what the word of God says.  I am part owner of a house with my sister, however, I don't reside there.  If I was living there and my husband requested I move in with him, I have no choice but to do what he said rather I agree with it or not.  That's just the way it is rather you choose to agree with me or not.
That was the first honest post i have seen on this thread. Religion and God play a major role in our lives. However, i don't think majority of the people on this forum would agree. It seems morality and religion have taken a backseat in our societies. Therefore you should not believe things like God, Sin, Blessing will have any impact here. Let us even remove religion out of the context and look at the individiuals getting married. What kind of relationship do they have (love, Bleep buddies etc), how mature are they and financially indepentent ?
RomanceRe: Housing And Relationships by samir101ng(m): 8:17pm On Dec 27, 2010
@ OP,

By the time i am ready to get married, i would be financially secure and able to provide for my family. That means renting or owning a house and funding the wedding. Any REAL MAN worth his salt must have a plan for taking care of his family. That means being educated, having a job, financially mature etc. Ladies always talk of guys taking advantage of them but why date a dude based on his good looks, charm, prowess in bed etc without looking at his future goals. The probability of any woman seeking a serious relationship that will end in marriage dating a guy that does not have a source of income that will provide for his family is very low.

The idea behind the Xchange is a good one. With the deployment of fibre optic networks by Telecos and the arrival of 2 new submarine cables (Main One & Glo), we need more interconnection between our various ISP's.

@AJ, Great topic you raised here because so much seems to be discussed about the 'Bosses' all the time.

In as much as we are humans that cannot be pinned down to a single behavioural pattern, after reminiscing on my attitudes towards bosses all my working life,
I think if you remove the part   "So they either manipulate, pander to, please, humour, or in some extreme cases, even sleep with their bosses as required, so long as the boss holds up their end", i will be comfortable in A.

I don't get too close to my bosses and i still always get whatever i want, what i know is that i always show them genuine love, take genuine interest in their visions and their families, never boot licking.
And why do you do those if not to be on the good side of your boss. It might be genuine and all but most people especially in the Nigerian working environment have follow thier oga jeje. Unless they have power full connections in the workplace that is when you will see an NYSC corper openly challenging his Oga.

What about the myth that bullets fired at a fuel tank will explode your car ? These guys fired round after round into the fuel tank of a car and nothing happened.

It's unfortunate that somebody lost his life yet again as a result of lack of a basic amenity (Electricity). May his Gentle soul rest in peace. Amen.
