Doitall. you are safe and your comments are true and not as extremely condemning and judgmental as houstonys

"I find Houston's comment the comment of a potential people's leader instead of the comment of a fool.
Well i can write so many things of my experiences in Nigeria that you all get tired."

Well, i dont want someone who gets sick to the stomach at progress for a leader.
It's not like im rich, or iv not been robbed or i dont see people get shot and stuff, but I cant wait to go back to Nigeria. I just love the place. Houstony just hates it. ALL GUD.

The education is superb and the environment is perfect for quality studying. The only problem is that its really difficult for a foreigner from our part of the world to establish here. Extremely difficult to get a good job too as they have one of those governments that put citizens first. Your living costs can be quite expensive as well as your education. There's just one University here- The University of the West Indies. Tuition and economic costs should vary between 12000 and 17000usd depending on your program. Businesses that can thrive here are limited so your business' survival depends mostly on its nature and its capital. You should expect the usual african bias when you come- especially west Africans. The economy is most likely to generate returns on your investments in the long run if you decide to establish. It is best however, to focus on the education and maybe get a part-time job. The schooling here needs a lot of your time, and as much as possible, it would be nice for the few Nigerians here to get all the best grades. Its a good destination for fun and studies generally. www.cavehill.uwi.edu

Barbados is visa free for Nigerians visiting for less than a month. Depending on your airline, you might need a transit visa. Most airlines fly through England so a UK transit visa might be needed. No direct flights from Nigeria yet. If you have a valid UK visa, it's ok. If you don't, the UK transit visas are very easy to secure and they are the cheapest. A flight to Barbados during peak periods are between $us2200-2500, non peak periods $1700-2000. Lengthy stays might be very costly. Overall, its a trip to make. I'll advise you use the british embassy in Ibadan for the transit visas if you have none.

Where were you last night? was the question I asked myself as I slowly opened my eyes. I was struck hard with a blow of migraine as I studied my environment till I was quite sure it was not mine. I staggered up, at this time my jaws had fallen and my eyes had cleared. It was a hall of some kind. As I toured my nightmare, I could hear the echo of my breath. I looked down to see what I was wearing and looked up in a twinkle- I was ashamed at my own nudity. Realizing I had nothing on, I started to shiver, tension and indifference held tightly unto me. It felt like one of those bad Sunday mornings- except that I was calm.
A door! I shouted in my thoughts. As I approached it, an army of footsteps did the same from the other side. Weakness gripped me. Shedding a tear, I settled in a corner and dwelt in self guilt and pity for I remembered nothing. Absolutely nothing. The footsteps stopped. The moment had come for my utter humiliation. I wiped a tear with my sweaty palms and watched the door slowly give way to something.
I jerked up to find one of my siblings sharply tapping me in a setting I'm now familiar with. It was a real nightmare. As far as I know, it still is. She shouted "get up, church is in forty-five minutes". I leaned back on the wall and pondered upon my dream with mixed feelings of trepidation and regret.
Where was I? who where they? and why was I naked? why am I still afraid?. Well, it was just a dream so I was quick to brush it off.

My Adventist church was the usual- lackluster and over-programmed. After what seemed like days, my ordeal was over and we headed home. We all took turns to narrate how much we enjoyed the service as we drove and decided to stop for lunch somewhere. My dad stepped forward to open the door of this restaurant  that must have opened just days ago. And alas! it was that hall!. I was so overwhelmed with horror that I screamed and jumped up from the couch I was laying. Another dream? my thoughts were in a rally. It all didn't make sense. I woke up twice in a dream? am I still dreaming?,  I guess I'll just keep living a dream while I wait for my real life to begin.

Oh my I remember those books. Try reading them with the mind to enjoy a wonderful story instead of just studying to pass. You won't have a problem rewriting those stories after that. Forget about the literary devices for a min and just enjoy. Im sorry i can't really summarize them anymore.

Ok. I'll just sit here and murmur on nairaland. How bout going home and living right, establishing and employing citizens, try voluntary education, investing in the economy, Agriculture, human rights advocate, music teaching, external financial auditor, even becoming a politician and determining to have integrity is a good idea (its the best idea. Its all Nigeria needs). The list is infinite. Imagine wot all 200000 nairalanders with such motive can do. I detest pessimism.

You cannot say that within those 20yrs you've not seen any of these places. Even in Abeokuta where i stayed, and passing through any of the other states, there were lovely LOVELY places. From Ekiti to Jigawa. And for the 207th time, We all know about those negatives. The point is that it's not all negative!. Me, all my years in Nigeria, most of what i see is that beauty. That's wot my eyes want to see, and that's wot they mostly see.

I remember watching NTA in 2006 where they showed this simulation of the master-plan for the modern railways and other proposed transportation miracles. Check out wot they have to say. Especially the guy that said he has forgotten wot happened to the billions. He must be kidding! angry shouldnt things like that be enough grounds for arresthuh

NIGERIAN RAILWAY REHAB “ABANDONED”
Friday, 04 July 2008
The Nigerian Senate 12-man ad-hoc committee set up recently to probe how billions were allocated to transport projects – rail, road and air - since 1999, with little if any sign of visible achievement or improvement, has had its hands full (according to the Daily Trust, published in the capital, Abuja).  A growing list of top government officials – both past and present – has been invited to explain their part in the sorry state of affairs, but those who have appeared before the committee to date do not seem to have made much in the way of a favourable impression. All former ministers of works, transport and aviation during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo are supposed to attend, at least one of whom - Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed – has a warrant out for his arrest for reportedly ignoring the invitation, the Daily Trust reports.
Ahmed, formerly  Permanent Secretary in the Works Ministry, is currently Permanent Secretary of the Presidency. “Available records,” the paper writes, “show that government released over N100 billion [about R6bn] to the ministry during his tenure.

“Also yesterday [27 June], former Minister of Works Chief Cornelius Adebayo told the Senate panel that he had lost his memory on how over N50 billion released to the ministry during his time was spent, [he] could not answer any question put to insisting that he forgot everything.”

Surveyor-General Austin Njepueme reportedly told the committee that prior to the year 2006, no roads constructed in the country had survey plans.

Accountant-General Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan said his office had released a total of N967 billion (about R63bn) to successive ministers in charge of transport since 1999 – of which N124 billion went to the railways – but he was contradicted by Director-General of the Federal Budget Office Bright Okonkwo, who said the correct total was N688.9 billion. Commenting on the difference of almost N300bn between the two figures,, Minister of Finance Dr.Shamsudeen Usman told the panel he had wanted the two different versions of the official records of expenditure in the transport sector to be “harmonised” before being presented, “but it is unfortunate that that did not happen”.

Chairman of the Senate panel Senator Heineken Lokpobiri said there is need “to dig deep” to ascertain the actual amount spent on railway rehabilitation.

Current Minister of Transportation Mrs Diezani Alison-Maduekwe was unable to explain her authorisation of the withdrawal of N30.9 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) within the last four days of 2007. In the words of the Daily Trust’s Abdul-Rahman Abubakar : “Obviously struck by the revelation, the minister developed a running stomach and had to excuse herself from the hearing. The Minister however made an important revelation when she said the $US8.3 billion Railway Modernisation Project was awarded to the CCECC of China without engineering design. Nigeria has so far paid $250 million for the project which has been abandoned. The minister said President Yar'adua is presently not sure of how to fund the project while CCECC is demanding oil blocs in return for its counterpart funding which government is not ready to provide.”

On 30 June, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Professor Chukwuma Soludo and the Minister of Transport were summoned “to make reconciliations” on the alleged disbursement of N30.9 billion in the last week of 2007.
