Beaf:
It doesn't matter what Dora's position is, afterall she has been telling us that she's been speaking with Yar Adua. That is patently false as you and I know.
Dora never claimed she spoke to the president. If you say so, give your source.

Dora is the Nigerian Minister of Information. She speaks on behalf of Gov. She was simply quotingJonathan and he has not counter her statement. I assure you that what she said would be reflected in the FEC minutes of meeting. And that makes it authoritative.

VICE President Goodluck Jonathan said he spoke with the ailing President Yar'Adua "briefly on Tuesday evening, precisely at 8:00 pm." He told the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which held yesterday.

All three confirmed that they spoke with the president recently. Are they saying the truth? Because if they are not, then that is a bad omen for Nigeria.

Spiritually speaking, when they asked Nigerians to pray for the president, they were supposed to be sober and have faith in God to heal him. But instead, they kept lying and scheming evil against Nigeria and Nigerians. How do they expect God to answer such prayers? God can not be mocked, what a man sows he shall reap.

PoliticsYar’adua’s Daughter Denied Access To Him by sammyzacks(op): 11:19am On Jan 09, 2010
Meanwhile, despite the report that Yar’Adua was said to have spoken to Jonathan, it was learnt that access to the president in Saudi Arabia is still restricted. Sources say that many of those who had made efforts to see Yar’Adua in hospital were not allowed to do so. Also, it was learnt that the hospital in which the president is being treated has strict instruction not say anything about him.
“This is why the hospital has been referring inquiries about the president to the Nigerian ambassador in Saudi Arabia,” a source close to the presidency said.

Saturday Sun gathered that the restriction of access to Yar’Adua is not only for his associates. Some family members, it was gathered, are not also allowed to see him.

It was learnt that one of the daughters of the president was denied access to him in Saudi Arabia when she stopped by, on his way to the United States, where she had gone for the delivery of her baby. The daughter was said to have waited for days and when it dawned on her that she should not be allowed to see her dad, she proceeded to the US.

“Why the president’s daughter was not allowed to see him is because it was feared that if she saw the president, she would tell her husband the real situation. The president does not want that,” a source said.

It was gathered that Yar’Adua’s son-in-law and governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, was also in Saudi Arabia to see the president. Sources revealed that the governor, who just returned, stayed longer than he expected because he was not allowed access to Yar’Adua earlier.

PoliticsRe: Should Nigeria Be On The Terror Watch-list? by sammyzacks(m): 10:31am On Jan 09, 2010
The government might not like to admit it but Islamic militancy is a problem in Nigeria.

But while Abdulmutallab may be an exception, he is not the first extremist to trouble the authorities.

Boko Haram’s leader, Mohammed Yusuf, was accused of having links to al Qaeda, but we will never be able to verify those claims because he was murdered shortly after being taken into custody.

Another radical Islamist sect, Kala Kato, clashed with a rival group and Nigerian security forces in the northern city of Bauchi. Northern Nigeria borders the unstable Sahel region, where al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) is known to operate.

A poll conducted by the Pew Global Attitudes Project in 2009 found that 43 percent of Muslims in Nigeria thought suicide bombing was justifiable.

Nigerians might be right when they dismiss the Abdulmutallab case as a one-off, but they would do well to guard against complacency.

Tanko complained on official Kano state radio in mid-September 2005, “The Shi’a are fast gaining ground in Kano, like wild fire… in every nook and corner of this state, and if we don’t act fast and decisively we will be faced with a disaster worse than Maitatsine.”

Since the former governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Sani, introduced a draconian version of sharia in 1999, 11 of Nigeria's 36 states have followed suit. Five women were sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, though no punishment has yet been carried out. Thieves have had their hands amputated by court order. One man had his eye removed after accidentally blinding a friend (he could have escaped this by paying 60 camels, but the injured party wasn't interested in the camels).

Non-Muslims, usually Christians, have become second-class citizens in Sharia states like Zamfara. Their taxes pay for Islamic preachers, while hundreds of churches have been closed by government order. Gov Sani announced that all "unauthorized" places of worship in Zamfara State would be demolished. Those who exercise their right under the Nigerian constitution to change their religion from Islam are threatened with death, a punishment for apostasy under sharia law.

In 2004, in Yobe State, there was an uprising by a group calling itself the "Taliban," led by a "Mullah Omar," and demanding an Islamic state. It took several hundred troops two weeks to put it down.

In November 2001, Nigerian police arrested six Pakistani preachers, accusing them of inciting religious violence in Ogun state.

The usually reliable news service Compass Direct reports that one of "Taliban" raiders, Muslim cleric Alhaji Sharu, confessed to police that he was a middleman between Nigerian extremists and the Al-Muntada Al-Islami Trust, a Saudi funded "charity" headquartered in Britain. Sharu said that the Trust's money had been used to propagate a Wahabist version of Islam in Nigeria and fund religious violence.

We can go on and on through history to dig out this facts that the Nigerian Gov has not been able to tackle.
PoliticsRe: Should Nigeria Be On The Terror Watch-list? by sammyzacks(m): 7:33am On Jan 09, 2010
Terrorism being referred to here is "Islamic extremism". And the lack of proper handling of our religious crisis by the Nigerian Gov in the country over the years, simply points to the fact that Nigeria is already on the LIST of countries to WATCHout for as far as EXTREMISM is concerned.

Let's not wait for others to tell us the truth. We should tell it to ourselves.

Precaution is always better than cure!

PoliticsYar'adua Is Sound And Fit-he Sits, Eats And Walks Very Well. by sammyzacks(op): 3:10pm On Jan 08, 2010
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua is "sound and fit" in hospital in Saudi Arabia, but it is unclear when he will be able to return home, Nigeria's ambassador said on Friday.

The president has been absent from Nigeria for more than a month receiving treatment for a heart condition in Saudi and there have been few updates on his health.

"He is recuperating in a royal suite attached to the hospital for VIPs. He is sound and fit, he sits, eats and walks very well. He is recuperating to have enough rest before he goes back to the office," Abdullah Aminchi, Nigeria's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told Reuters.

Asked when the president may return to Nigeria, Aminchi said: "It is the doctors who will say when."

PoliticsNigeria's Almajiri Children Learning A Life Of Poverty And Violence by sammyzacks(op): 10:50pm On Jan 07, 2010
It's an ancient tradition -- where poor families from rural areas across West Africa send their children to a network of Islamic boarding schools -- called Amajiri -- in the cities of northern Nigeria.
Often hundreds of kilometers from their family -- once here, they are given no other education or money.
The Almajiri boys must beg to survive. Across the north, an early afternoon break in classes sees the children flood into the streets with small bowls to search for any scraps.

One young man sent by his family from neighboring Niger explained to CNN how he and other children are used as foot-soldiers in local religious clashes by the schools.
Speaking to CNN on condition we hide his identity for fear of his life, he explained how in 2000 he lost his arm in religious violence that killed over 1000 people in the northern city of Kaduna.
"I blame my Qu'ranic teacher who sent me to fight during the riots," he explained. "He has ruined my life."
Although there are no exact figures the Almajiri are thought to number in the millions.
The only census ever taken was in Kano state -- which found in 2006, there were 1.2 million Almajiri in Kano alone.

It is not because Nigeria is a developing nation. Rather it is because NIgeria, unlike Britain, has not show clear and significant signs of battling with the problem of terrorism. With Britain, it could be excused as a lapse, but with Nigeria, it is seen as the beginning of worse things to come.
That is the real fact here.
