Thanks for those that have continually stayed on here to help others. @imperiouxx and others, thank you, guys! I wish everyone coming to the US for the fall semester a wonderful experience through the whole process.

If you have been following the thread for 6years, then VIU should scarcely have been considered as a school. Please dig deeper and consider a better school. Best of luck. BTW, I greet everyone in the house and wish you all the best especially those coming to the US in Fall 2017.

Hello guys! It's been awhile... I hail the veterans who keep coming back each day to provide people with details on this forum. I just wonder how the likes of imperiouxx, slimmy2005, godG, Gboyega et al are able to do this consistently. I hope to be like them too... Congrats to those who are resuming in fall and I wish all other hopefuls the very best. Happy Easter from UIUC.

GTBank started giving out BTA and PTA on Monday 10th but the unfortunate thing is that the bank sells only to current account holders(not savings). I couldn't get to buy from my other banks either(Diamond, Access). Had to open a new account with First Bank on Tuesday 11th and within an hour, I got USD4k as PTA at very reasonable fee. Was charged additional NGN8400 which makes the total NGN808,400 for USD4000

who called Fidelity bank stupid? cos dey gave u just 1000USD. lol , Fidelity bank gave me 4000USD cash..... dont worrry wen u get here u know the different between the 2 banks. i av use the 2 banks here and i must say first bank is d stupid bank

Spring semester I guess?

slimmy05:
next time start with it. I got a Merit Schokarship which takes care of 50% of my tuition and my mum would take care of the rest. There is no time again. Defer till fall semester and have them send you a new i-20, then you can go for interview in October which is just two months away. This will afford you time for good preparation.

Ok boss, thanks I appreciate.

DARKLIGHT:

You are welcome, boss! Before you head to the airport, I will advise you to weigh your baggage to know if it conforms with airline's weight limit. This will save you the stress of looking for bag to spread your items at the airport. If you are going with foodstuff, try and pulverize them. Also use a transparent polyethylene bag to wrap the food items and label accordingly.

Thanks boss. Just to be sure it won't cause any issue.
DARKLIGHT:

Hello, boss! It's not asked of at the airport by the immigration or custom. From when I got my booking pass at MMA, Lagos through when I got into JFK airport, New York, I wasn't asked of the yellow card.

But, at the MMA, I did temperature check twice. That's nothing.

Great people, please who knows an agent that can help me book a flight for Tuesday to Texas?
All I keep getting is $2500

Check emirates.com, you should get a cheaper rate for one way. You may need to pay at their office though in order to pay at the official dollar rate.

Thanks biikeys. Just needed to clarify that to know what time to book for my bus ride to Urbana. From what you just wrote, I think 2hours should be fine. Thanks

biikeys:

How long is your layover?

O'Hare is huge, busy and typically takes a while to walk/take a train to the domestic gates from the international terminals..I'd say give yourself at least 2 hours to be safe(including immigration/customs stop). If it's less, you'd probably make it as well...you'd just have to do lot of walking.

I think this roughly implies Diamond sells at #204 to $1. Do the maths. Better though

ifedapsy:

Diamond Bank offers a better rate-200/$1. However, you'll be charged 2% of the dollars you collect as PTA. For example, $4k attracts an extra charge of $80. Abeg, mk Una do d Maths wella .

Hi everyone...

I'm kinda new here, not to form big or anything...I've not traveled out of Nigeria before but I've always want too. So when my dad came up with d idea of me traveling out, I thought it will just be to work there, then he told me I'll be going to school. Since I've not travel before and not conversant with the process of securing a VISA, me and dad went to meet a well known agent to the family this morning and he told me to come with my passport and academic certificates tomorrow that he will look up schools that will admit for december.

So I'm very curious, nervous and expectant! I need advices and probably someone to put me through on d requirements so when the agent talks I will also tell him the information I have.

I have never been more ready (lol...pardon my "english"wink.

I hope to follow this page as much as possible from this time onward. Hope to hear a sounding "welcome" *winks*

Welcome. However we do not encourage people patronizing agents for admission and any of the steps in the process. Take your time to read through this thread and the previous and use google to explore schools and chose a course for yourself and safe yourself money you would pay an agent who may probably recommend a community college for you. Peace!

Any Advice.....

Diamond, Fidelity, and Ecobank all sell dollar at the official rate as PTA(Personal Traveling Allowance). Just go to any of them you possibly have account with and present your passport with Visa and your ticket.

Thanks for sharing your thought walspring
Walspring:

I said something similar on this to Justwise sometimes ago when someone was looking for a particular post and i also said someone can use a command on NL to search for a particular post and it will just bring it up but he said no such since he doesn't have the power and only the Admin can do that or so

I believe Mr seun can do something like this and similar to the # tag you mentioned above but if people dont make use of that, i dont think what people are searching they will get it directly maybe similar or close to it sha.

Maybe searching for a special word like transcript or visa granted or visa approved will do the work better in order to save them stress of reading from part 1 to 6

Although reading through part 1 to 6 will also help and assist them to acquire more experience and side attractions like advise and comment suggested for delayed applicants, e-fighting, jokes etc and not just only the success story experience alone

#Personal thoughts

You know often time we refer people to part 1-6 of this thread I'm kind of thinking of what can be done to make accessing the right info easier. Sincerely, to go through Part 1-6 of this thread is serious thing and it is required for people who need indept understanding and also have alot of time at hand. But what about those who just came to know this thread a few days to their interview and wanted to read interview transcripts of others within the shortest time possible? I am kind of thinking the search process can be optimized in order to be able to search for interview transcript s without having to go through the whole ensemble of information. Something like the way we searh using the harsh tags on twitter. Please guys, what is our take on this? We may need to let @seunosewa and his team know this.

From a designer's point of view, users are critical stakeholders who can make better suggestions and that is why I'm asking what we think.

Hello everyone.
In few weeks, I will be traveling to the U.S. Can you guys tell me what to expect on the flight and at both airports? (DUBAI TO HOUSTON). Which documents should I take with me? I'm flying with emirates airlines. This means that I'll have a layover in Dubai. Any advice for me regarding that? Any miscellaneous advice for me?
Thanks!

Flying emirates too. I understand you will get good treatment for your buck!

Why don't you login to your account on WES website and check the status? You can also mail the customer service (guess there should be one because the last time I used their service was 2010) to find out details. But login first

Good day everyone. I want to use this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has contributed in this forum. Ve been a silent follower for sometime until now. I ve been making some research about doing MSc in United States and the responses and advice from this forum has really been helpful.
Here is my issue.... am a registered nurse in Nigeria seeking to do my MSc and also practice in the USA and a friend over there told me one of the best way was to come with a visiting visa and as soon as I crossed that the visa can be changed to student visa over there and then I can seek for an admission. I really don't know the possibility of that. I really will appreciate if great minds here can shed more light on this. Thanks.
.... .. She also said a friend would be doing his wedding wt a US citizen so d dude will be traveling with his grooms from Nigeria and he charged 1million to add me as one of his groom and then we go to embassy as a group so that the visa won't be refused I don't know if the price is a fair one or if I ve other option of getting a visiting visa would be cheaper. Thanks in anticipation.

One chance! Be careful bro

Dear house,
Thank y’all for the help you are rendering to others in here.

I have a bit of problem. And here is my case:
I got a PhD offer with an engineering department at a public University in the US. In the offer it was stated that funding is not guaranteed for now that the department will try to match me with Professors having grants in line with my interest to be my advisors so I could get funding from working with them. For that reason, I moved on to accept the offer, considering that I had applied to two schools under harsh conditions and later on the lower ranked school sent me regret mail for a probable mistake on my part. Meanwhile, I already had would be advisor there.

I have ended up not contacting Prof myself in this department given that they said they would do that, I felt they knew better. I also wanted it not to seem like desperation on my part.

Now, I am looking at options and wondering if I should have gone ahead to talk with Profs myself or just stay patient and disturb the graduate advisors with reminders, as I am already preparing my mind now on deferring the admission to subsequent semester, while I try out one or two additional schools on my pool of shortlisted university. I see PhD in engineering without funding is not worth doing from reading pages of this thread and personal experience.

Fall is winding up with resumption fast approaching and I have exercise patient up till now. What do you advice? What are my chances? Can I trust them by waiting a bit longer? Your take please!

Thanks for your time!

Bro, congrats. However, some questions: When are you likely to know the details of the funding that will be provided by working with the profs? Will this reflect in your I-20? If this does not reflect in your I-20, do you have any source of money other than your expectation from the School to prove at embassy? Just like you have already noted yourself, a PhD with a partial funding especially in Engineering may be somewhat financially draining. You need to be very certain about your finances. I would suggest the option of trying more schools for better funding while you wait. Other great minds will advice appropriately sha... Best!

Is this a 4year undergrad? And I hope this is not a community college stuff. Name of the School? I don't think a major in Web Design for 4years is worth an investment.. Well may be if you got more to gain anyway. Just my thought.

No. Am going for a wedding, me and my wife. Fare to Dayton is around 350k while Cincinnati is 270k, that is a difference of about 140k for the 2 of us. I am now thinking of geting the fare to Cincinnati, then get a cab to Dayton since its just about 50 min drive

Since it's just a 50minute drive as you said, the bus option may be good and then you could save some money. Why not check Google for 'Cincinnati to Dayton by road'. You will get fare details. Well, others will help but to me, Google is best way to go.
